Come for the drinks and stay for the music! This is exactly the experience that I received as I paid a visit to "Dawn Club", a cocktail bar combined with speakeasy vibes and live music that showcases jazz, swing, big band, and other genres of music. Located on Annie St and just a few steps away from Market St in the SOMA/Financial District of San Francisco, this place has been delivering some amazing tunes and vibes in the current form since 2023. Keep in mind that reservations are required here as seating is limited. However, if you arrive in between 5-7pm, they will accept walk-ins. The business hours usually run from 5pm-12am while staying open until 2am from Wednesday through Saturday. Even though this place has only been around since 2023, there is a ton of deep rich history behind it that goes back nearly a century. The original Dawn Club (with completely different ownership) existed in the same Monadnock Building on Market St in the 1930's and 1940's as it was a popular music venue from the Prohibition-era up until the end of WW2. Considering that everything ceased to operate up until 2023, the current ownership did the unthinkable and recreated everything as if you've taken a step back in time to a bygone era. This takes me to the interior layout of this place. There are no words to describe just how much I appreciate what they've done. The dim-lit lighting paired with the gorgeous bar, art-deco styling, swanky leather seating and beautifully-marbled tables really showcases just how well executed everything is. I'm also a huge fan of jazz music as the entire ambiance and environment is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Since we had a 7pm reservation, we were seated towards the front near the stage. Our hostess took our order as I went with a "Mutt's Mix" for myself and a "Grasshopper" for her. As soon as 8pm rolled around, the band "Fog City Swing" arrived on stage. They are a well-known big band ensemble that make several appearances at Dawn Club. The entire vibe and electricity hits perfectly as this is more along the lines of a dark bar that you might experience in New York or Chicago. All in all, "Dawn Club" absolutely exceeded my expectations on all levels. The entire layout, drink selection, and variety of musical guests that play here is definitely up my alley. Therefore, I am giving this place a perfect five-star rating. read more

Awesome little jazz club that has live music every night, including Mondays! The place feels like modern elegant yet retro1940s 50s 60s...such a nice change of beautiful ambience compared to the many dive bars all over San Francisco. Staff were all friendly from the hostess to the bartender. $15 cover charge for a romantic table, but no charge if yo spot at the bar. Decided to spend the weekend in San Francisco and found myself craving something that felt East Coast. I'm a huge jazz fan and will forever miss a proper New York style jazz bar. After a little digging on Yelp , I discovered Dawn Club and was instantly transported back to my early 20s--young(ish), vibrant, and full of energy. Tucked between two skyscrapers in the Financial District (or whatever we're calling it now) in SF. This place completely took me back to my East Coast days. Total New York jazz vibe. Beautiful ambiance, fantastic and staff friendly enough for a big cit dealing with different characters....music was absolutely on point. Honestly? I had such a good time. A cocktail or two in (Old Fashion of course). I found myself doing a light shimm (millennial version, as I'm 45ish) twisting my hips just enough to avoid breaking hip. That left this solo night out with zero regrets and pure joy. The band was flawless. The piano had its main-character solo moment that made the crowd erupt. The cello slowed everything down and settled the room. Then the trumpet brought everyone right back off their seats, into a vibe and onto the dance floor. Thank you for such a great night. My friend and I loved this spot! We are already planning to go back. We came on jazz night and it was packed. We walked in and were told you needed a reservation or you can stand at the bar. Many of the tables were booked already and the bar was a filled standing room. There were some stools and maybe two high tables that were taken. We ordered an espresso martini from the bar, which was so good! The best I've had yet! It was hard to see the stage at the bar but the ambiance regardless was nice. The artist brought people from the crowd up onto the stage to sing, so it was fun and interactive. After waiting for a while, we asked for a table and they sat us down for $30 per person. We came here on a Saturday night for some live music and cocktails. I found it on Yelp and the Yelpers came through on this one! As soon as I walked in, I felt like I transported to a different era. The bar is beautiful. The decor is nice! Beautiful stage. This place is just what I was looking for. Seating is split between 2 areas. Bar seating (no charge) and the stage area is $30/person. We had great seats near the front on the bar side. They just ask you to order from the bar. No biggie. Drinks were great. I had the Espresso martini. Taste just like you would expect, coffee and vodka. The Ella Fritz was my favorite. Really refreshing even though it was small. The Pancho Lopez with Mezcal was made to perfection. The other two looked unappealing, so I'd probably get an NA beer (there's only one option) next time. An amazing experience to those who enjoy jazz! it's quite an intimate space with limited tables and a bar towards the back that you're welcome to stand by when the music is playing. The band we saw was mostly improv jazz which is so cool, i was expecting smooth jazz but i was delightfully surprised. Reservations are highly recommended as it can get quite busy. Our server was very sweet and she checked up on my party when our drinks were empty, and always made sure we had water. The show is about an hour long, and it's also the recommended reservation time. No food is served, and it wasn't easy to know this as the website doesn't include to much details on whether or not we'd have food and drinks, so we were a bit disappointed but nonetheless a great time here. Dawn club is perfect if you are looking for a jazz bar! The interior is very elegant and the music was very good. We didn't make any reservations so we hung out by the bar area. After ~20 mins, we got lucky and were able to snag some pretty good seats in the bar area facing the stage. As many people mentioned, the drinks are a little pricier at $20 - $25 but since they don't charge a cover here, I think it's worth it. The bartenders and servers were also very nice. The reason why this is 4 stars is because I tried 2 drinks while I was there and thought both were just okay. Maybe I need to try some different ones next time. read more

Came here during the storm and even though we were 30 minutes early for our reservation, they still sat us. Note that in order to get a reservation after 7pm you do have to pay a small fee per person, which goes to the band. Per the website there are time limits, however, because of the rain I think we were allowed to stay longer, which was so awesome! We caught the first set of the band and had a great time. The ambiance is swanky, sexy, and cool. A really awesome place for a date. They do not serve food, so eat before or have plans after! And yes. Yes yes yes the drinks are EXPENSIVE. However, the bartenders are really crafting some unique cocktails and service was spectacular. We had 4 drinks (whiskey flight and 3 cocktails) and it came to $109 (not including the fee for the reservations which you pay when making the reservation). Time limit is 1.5 hr stay. *no food, just cocktail menu. -1 star because even after paying the table service that's specifically stated going into band performance, the drinks price are still a bit high for me personally. Most speakeasy or nice bars are normally $17-19. However, here are ranked from ~ $20-24. Overall, I enjoyed the performance. Interior is lovely as well. We absolutely loved Dawn Club! We stopped in on a Saturday right as they opened, so we were the first people through the door. The tables were reservation-only so we sat a the bar. The interior was gorgeous - dim red-ish lighting, art deco decor. The best part was the beautiful bar, which was massive and well-designed, with glowing concentric circles of lighting. For drinks, I ordered the Ella Fitz and my friend chose the Mutt's Mix. The Ella Fitz was very well balanced, and tasted great. My friend's Mutt's Mix was arguably even better - super unique in a refreshing way. Vegas, the bartender, was so fun to chat with, and told us all about the different spirits and ingredients they had. He even made us mini Grasshoppers, which were insanely good!
