Two 2 Piece Fried Chicken and Sides
Christine B.

We came for dinner around 9:30PM on a Monday and it was surprisingly busy for a Monday night. We had reservations since we were a larger group. The interior was dimly lit and cozy. It's the perfect spot for a casual dinner/drinks with friends. Our serve was also friendly, attentive, and quick with recommendations. We ordered the duck fat fries, two piece fried chicken, deviled eggs, and cauliflower. Our favorites were the duck fat fries and two piece fried chicken. The duck fat fries were crispy and rich, especially paired with the curried ketchup.

Disclaimer: Vegetarian Review Came here for dinner with friends and everything was just ok. We got a bunch of apps which were good, the deviled eggs and whipped ricotta especially. There was one vegetarian entree option which was this mushroom pasta and it was so bland. As you can tell from the picture, was basically sautéed veggies on plain pasta. I've heard good things about this place for brunch so might be back for that but won't be back for dinner for sure.

Wow this is a spot that has stayed in my mind since my birthday! This spot can be often overlooked when passing it, but it's so worth for the ambiance, food and drinks. The duck fat fries are so nostalgic yet so unique and amazing. I would just go here for that and the drinks. The fries are so umami and addicting that I came back a weekend after with my cousins for it with some drinks. Service is swift, quick and the workers here are so kind and attentive. I prefer and love bar seating here for the small snack! And the bartenders here are so friendly and enjoyable for your afternoon chill. They play the best music here too so tens across the board!! We had the black guy as our server and bartender at bar here, and I think about how perfect the service was. I hope everyone knows they are appreciated here!!

Had a quick snack and drink over here for the first time! I had the jack of roses! It was good and wasn't too strong. The fries are a must try! Flavorful and crispy! The wait was not too bad for being a walk in on a Saturday afternoon.

My friend and I came here for dinner before a concert down the block at The Independent. It was very crowded, and while we would have preferred to sit indoors, we were seated outdoors in a heated area. For entrees, we ordered the risotto and fried chicken, which were both delighful. The duck fat fries were so addicting. We gobbled these right up! I was consindering ordering a holiday drink (it was mid-November), but I had to drive to work the next day. Bill came to about $100 with tip.

Stopped by Horsefeather for a happy hour while doing some on-the-go work since I'd seen that they advertise as a remote-work friendly space. Visited right in the middle of happy hour at 3 PM. The atrium was full when we arrived but inside seating was pretty empty - we got lucky though and managed to switch to an atrium table just a few minutes after being seated. We ordered a couple of drinks, the sliders, grilled cheese, and goat cheese dip off of the happy hour menu. I added the roasted cauliflower off the regular menu for a veggie. No one dish was particularly notable, but it was an enjoyable light meal and a nice place to get a little work done and relax in natural lighting! I could definitely see myself stopping by for happy hour if I was in the area, especially for the fun cocktails.

Duck Fat Fries Double Cheeseburger and Korean chicken sandwich.

Food was fine, nothing stood out and overall the experience was underwhelming. The duck fat fries everyone raves about were honestly just fries nothing memorable or worth the hype. The burger was pretty basic, and while the Korean chicken sandwich had decent flavor, it wouldn't be my first choice over other chicken sandwich spots. A small but frustrating detail: they charge $1 for ranch, served in a tiny cup, which felt excessive. The restaurant itself is nice, but the atmosphere makes it clear they're focused on turning tables as quickly as possible rather than creating a great dining experience. What really stood out, unfortunately, was the service. We overheard the hostess approach a nearby table that was clearly enjoying their meal and say, "Don't mean to be rude, but you need to leave, reservations are here," while simultaneously clearing their table. A more courteous heads-up would have gone a long way instead of actively kicking them out. Overall, nothing was terrible, but nothing impressed me enough to return.

Great ambiance and good vibes. Pretty crowded on a Friday night, around 10pm. Service was good and waiters were attentive and kind. Duck fat fries were my favorite item on the menu. The taste is subtle, but the fatty flavor sits with you, in a good kinda way. Wings were pretty good too. They're glazed and super flavorful and moist. I prefer the fries over this, but half my table liked the wings. Risotto is underwhelming. Less flavorful than I thought but if you're looking for a creamier, soft flavor, this could be right for you. I tried my partners 2 piece chicken, and it was all right, nothing to write home about and she wouldn't get it again. The birria was also just all right, not very birria like at all, so a bit disingenuous to the name. Overall, cute place with very nice ambiance. Get the fries and maybe the wings, don't get the entrees we got.

Had a nice dinner ahead of a show at the Independent. Service was friendly but sluggish, cocktails and food excellent. Comfortable seats and cozy, bustling vibe. Would certainly come again.

Came for some holiday cocktails and apps! The duck fat fries were okay -- I got them because many reviews said to try it, but they were mediocre in my opinion. I was more impressed with their goat cheese/artichoke dip! As for the drinks, I got a shortbread themed drink and it was delicious! But the other two (one was served in a coconut from the regular menu and the other was also from the holiday cocktail list but I forgot what it was exactly) were okay. I will come again but it's very cute and I am interested in trying other things on their menu.

I was really looking forward to going to this place and I had a decent time but was slightly disappointed with the food. I had the pork tacos and the flavor profile was really good, but I thought they were pretty watery. The appetizers were creative and I would recommend the duck fat fries! The drinks were honestly the best thing that we had, so I would definitely recommend going for cocktails. The jack of roses was the best in my opinion! The two piece chicken we also tried, and it was very over fried. In general, the ambience was very cute and dimly lit, and our server was friendly and helpful!

Chicken & Waffles with matcha butter + matcha maple syrup

This is based off my brunch experience (which I think they recently just started offering!) Horsefeather is known for their divine duck fat fries which I always recommend my friends! Nestled on Divisadero just a couple blocks away from walking around Japantown is a great cozy outing for a first date, light bite, drinks... you name it! I came around 3:00pm on a weekend and it was not busy at all, you still need to call to make a reservation to book a table with a card under your name as seats get very very limited during dinner hours. This time around I got.... Chicken & waffles 4/5- The syrup and butter was a very unique spin on a classic brunch staple! The strawberries and bananas along with the chicken breast piece complimented each other perfectly with sweet, saltiness, and some savory earthy flavors from the matcha. It reminded me of pink elephants chicken and waffles! (Unfortunately They're closed now... :( ) Chicken katsu sando 3/5 - I honestly wish there was an even distribution of the sauces they used, it was only in the center. I feel like the should honestly be paired with regular fries at its price point. Very filling BIG sandwich but flavor profile wise?... there's better sando places out there And now the star of the show.... DUCK FAT FRIES You HAVE to come here solely for these fries. Imagine if McDonald's French fries were fresh, delicious, crispy and full of flavor. Paired with a curry ketchup sauce made in house... this is something that I can't find anywhere else.

I visited Horsefeather with 6 of my friends recently for dinner. Originally, we made a reservation for 6 people, and the restaurant was able to accommodate a 7th. We sat outside in the parklet under a heater, which was very warm and comfortable. We ordered 2 orders of duck fat fries and 1 order of the broccolini for the table. The fries were crunchy and the duck fat was delicious. The broccolini was citrusy and fresh. I then ordered the mushroom linguine, and I'm not kidding when I say it was some of the best pasta I've ever had in my life. The umami flavors were rich and delicious, and the sauce was creamy. The shrimp risotto was also yummy. The restaurant, itself, is really cute inside and was full of people. I highly recommend making a reservation to guarantee a table. I am SO happy I tried this restaurant!

I liked the cardamom in the Beauty Mark as well that my partner ordered. We ordered shishito peppers and mushroom bahn mi sliders. The mushroom bahn mi sliders were amazing - the quality fillings and taste of the soft bun - I was unexpectedly hit with a bite of spice from maybe jalapeño seeds left but didn't sour my experience. The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.

A bartender who sat with you to talk about the menu, the process, and your experience very passionately and intently.  However, I think that the bar program is a little unrefined. Every drink had 10,000 ingredients, and most of them did not work together. If the drink did work together, you just tasted nothing because everything blended together and you couldn't taste any special or fun ingredients.  Unfortunately, I don't think this spot is worth looking for.

Once most of our party was here, we got seated at an outside seating area that was marked as reserved. The atmosphere and decor struck a great balance between welcoming and elegant. The space had earthy tones, flattering lighting, and various layouts of seating layouts. The bar itself was beautifully displayed. We ordered various drinks and some small bites. Yuka fries, ceviche clasico, carne asana tacos, al pastor tacos. The chips were solidly crisp, crunchy, and paired very well with the ceviche. The carne asana tacos with the salsa macha was juicy and perfectly done, and my favorite small bite of the night.. The Yuka fries were perfectly salted and the aioli dip was exactly what you'd want out of fries. My friends recommended the Kiwi and I found it refreshing, almost like a drink you'd have at a spa or so. I also tried the Oaxacan, which was styled like an old fashioned. I thought it was fair, but if I were to pick a favorite out of the two, the Kiwi would be my choice. Even with a busy crowd, the service was attentive and checked on us every so often. My favorite was the watermelon and guava. I would definitely come back for the drinks. I didn't enjoy the food, and here's where it went wrong. We first got our chips and salsa. The chips are seasoned like Doritos so there's a nice flavor but the seasoning is in consistent. Some pieces were SO salty and some had no seasoning. The salsa is pretty rich as well. When our ceviche came, I ate a bite without the seafood and it tasted fishy. When I tried the actual seafood part, I knew it went bad because it had such a strong odor. We had to send it back but saw them serving it to other people. I eat a lot of seafood and I don't mind a slight fishy taste but this was definitely a food poisoning situation. After that it took a very very long time to get our last dish. Unfortunately when it finally came out, it was a disappointment. The octopus texture tasted like it had freezer burn, then was over cooked, sat too long after it was cooked because they had to make the fries. The fries were fresh but the octopus was dry, cold, hard, and chewy. I've had lots of pulpo before and this was a let down. It was a bummer that we didn't get to eat much and decided to walk somewhere else to finish dinner.
