This place is so close to my house yet I had never been there!! Finally got a chance to go there on a weekend for brunch. The owner was nice enough to accommodate us for a last minute walk-in. We got seated around 10 mins (great given it was brunch time!) I usually order french toast pretty much every time. Decided to do something different and went with pancake. Guess what I got? French toast! :D :D :D Apparently, there was some miscommunication somewhere. The server was nice enough to offer to get it replaced but I decided to go with what the universe had decided for me. Found this little hidden gem walking around before we went to the Castro theater for an event. The menu looked small but the food sounded amazing so we decided to eat here before heading off to our show. Our server and the kitchen staff were all very welcoming upon entering the restaurant. Got seated almost immediately outdoors in their back patio. We ordered two entrees and both were delicious. The cheeseburger 9/10 it was cooked and seasoned well. The service is top tier. I feel welcomed and like the staff want to be there. The food is delicious. I usually get the Chilaquiles but sometimes try the pancakes or a Benedict if it's on the menu. And don't skip the chocolate chip banana bread with butter. Yum! This is a go-to spot for me solo or with friends. My out of town family always requests that we dine here too. Fable used to be one of our favorite places for delicious food and great service, but unfortunately, our recent visit was a huge disappointment. The service was painfully slow, and nearly everything that came out of the kitchen was either cold or lacking flavor. The biscuits and gravy were tasteless, the fries arrived cold, and the pork eggs Benedict was so tough that I could barely cut the pork with a knife. Even the coffee tasted old. What made the slow service even more frustrating was that our server seemed to have plenty of time to upsell additional food options, but not enough time to check on our table or make sure our meal was actually being served properly. It's disappointing to see a restaurant that used to be so good decline this much. Fable has a lot of work to do to get back to the food and service it was once known for. read more

Okay came here upon a recommendation from a friend who used to live nearby and I'm so glad I went! Came here on a Saturday brunch during the Castro street fair so things were crazy outside, yet their back door patio still felt peaceful. Great backdrop to the meal! The food was excellent. I got the cured ocean trout Benedict and was wowed by the color of the trout! Super vibrant and tasty fresh. The greens was a tasty compliment, and the eggs were cooked perfectly, but my biggest surprise was their delicious bread underneath. Seemed like homemade focaccia bread! Brunch on a Saturday at 1:15pm for four - after waiting a few minutes in the parklet out front, the host told us he had a table in the back garden for us. When we got there, apparently there had been a miscommunication with another staff member and we couldn't have the table. They seemed a little upset at each other.. we were fine with a table out front, and he brought us a free cinnamon bread plate which was nice. I got the French toast, which was done on baguette bread. We wanted to have a ronantic dinner in the Castro District to celebrate my husband's birthday. Stumbled upon Fable on Yelp. The heated outdoor garden like Patio seating lured us in. We started with their steamed Mussells w/ Sausage, that was really good. I had to scoop off the renai g broth as it was so yummy. Then Tyler orderd the 10 oz. NY steak. The only Negative was that it came with battered onion rings which kinda cheapened the $42 steak. I had the Braised Pork Shank which was Perfection. Had their Brioche Bread Pudding w/ Caramel sauce. I discovered Fable on Yelp when looking for a lunch spot not too far from Twin Peaks. The garden seating looked beautiful and street parking was easy to find nearby. When we arrived, the garden area was full so we were seated at one of the tables out front - less vibey, but good for people watching. For drinks, they had a few zero-proof wines, so I decided to try the non-alc Sauvignon Blanc. It was a little sweet for me, but still tasty. For food, I ordered the Fried Rocky Jr. Organic Chicken Sandwich. There was some confusion because I asked for no savoy cabbage/sweet pepper slaw, but was given no side salad instead. I was starving, so I ended up just eating the sandwich as is. I wasn't a huge fan of the slaw, but I liked the flavor of the chipotle aoili and the soft brioche bun. The chicken itself was pretty good, although I could've done with thinner breading. My friend got the Buttermilk Biscuits and Pork Sausage Gravy and my grandma chose the Nicoise Salad with Striped Bass. Both dishes were good, but nothing special. However I had to dock a star because at my most recent visit, everything was great except: -I used a new points app called Blackbird and they offered a "free special item" for first time users. It never was provided -the food runner dropped off another tables food and then came back to pick it up -I ordered scrambled eggs and they brought out over easy. -me and my partner both ordered a size of steak medium rare (same exact order). One plate came out rare (almost pink) and the other plate came out well done (no pink at all) -my espresso martini had cold foam in it. Never seen that before. It was quite a stiff drink (good thing!) So a few inconsistencies but overall great spot and great food. read more

I feel like this place is very intimate and romantic. It serves as a very nice place to relax one's mind. When we dined at their gorgeous beautiful back patio it is as if I've escaped into the oasis, like I'm in a whole different place. Food was delicious and fresh. It had multiple pieces of thin, crispy chicken on it. Two things I wish were different: fries were $2 extra which felt like a bit much considering the sandwich was already $19.
