My family and I came to dinner tonight to be seated and greeted by our amazing fun server, Laurie (possibly spelled wrong). She has worked there for 5 years and yes we asked all the questions! Okay came here upon a recommendation from a friend who used to live nearby and I'm so glad I went! Came here on a Saturday brunch during the Castro street fair so things were crazy outside, yet their back door patio still felt peaceful. Great backdrop to the meal! The food was excellent. When we got there, apparently there had been a miscommunication with another staff member and we couldn't have the table. When we arrived, the garden area was full so we were seated at one of the tables out front - less vibey, but good for people watching. For drinks, they had a few zero-proof wines, so I decided to try the non-alc Sauvignon Blanc. It was a little sweet for me, but still tasty. For food, I ordered the Fried Rocky Jr. Organic Chicken Sandwich. There was some confusion because I asked for no savoy cabbage/sweet pepper slaw, but was given no side salad instead. I was starving, so I ended up just eating the sandwich as is. I wasn't a huge fan of the slaw, but I liked the flavor of the chipotle aoili and the soft brioche bun. The chicken itself was pretty good, although I could've done with thinner breading. My friend got the Buttermilk Biscuits and Pork Sausage Gravy and my grandma chose the Nicoise Salad with Striped Bass. Both dishes were good, but nothing special. However I had to dock a star because at my most recent visit, everything was great except: -I used a new points app called Blackbird and they offered a "free special item" for first time users. It never was provided -the food runner dropped off another tables food and then came back to pick it up -I ordered scrambled eggs and they brought out over easy. -me and my partner both ordered a size of steak medium rare (same exact order). One plate came out rare (almost pink) and the other plate came out well done (no pink at all) -my espresso martini had cold foam in it. Never seen that before. There were patrons dining on this evening that we came but it was not at all super busy. The staff greeted us right away and were super friendly. We were seated very quickly and given water to drink. Patrick our server happened to be the same friendly guy over the phone who had helped me with my reservation. The restaurant is very beautiful and has a zen like feeling to it. I feel like this place is very intimate and romantic. It serves as a very nice place to relax one's mind. When we dined at their gorgeous beautiful back patio it is as if I've escaped into the oasis, like I'm in a whole different place. Food was delicious and fresh. They have a vegan lasagna on the menu which I can confirm is dairy allergy friendly! Chilaquiles, chocolate chip banana bread with honey butter, and blood orange mimosas, so delicious!! And the folks working there are very professional. They have the timing down, and offer the "just-right" amount of attention to the customers (it was easy to get what we needed, but they aren't trying to get us in and out in the shortest time possible). It's outdoor but shaded and wasn't too crowded between tables. I got the fried chicken sandwich which came with a salad. The sandwich was really good. It had multiple pieces of thin, crispy chicken on it. Two things I wish were different: fries were $2 extra which felt like a bit much considering the sandwich was already $19. And two, I felt like there wasn't enough sauce on the sandwich and it ended up being a bit dry. Overall though, I thought the sandwich and the restaurant were good! Items ordered: - Fuyu Persimmon Salad: The salad was refreshing and I loved the addition of the fruit with persimmon and pomegranate seeds. There was a lot of cheese in the salad but the portion was still pretty decent to share. - Dijon and Breadcrumb Crusted Braised Pork Cheeks: Crispy and flavorful, it only came with 5 pieces so I would've wanted a few more pieces to make the dish more worth it. - Crispy Skin Striped Bass on Butternut Squash Tortellini: Came with 4 large tortellini vs a lot of small tortellini, but the white based sauce was tasty and the fish was cooked well. - Baked Mac and Cheese: I tried this dish from one of my friends and it was so good, the flavor was not too overpowering and super tasty, would get this again! - Bread Pudding: I personally liked this dessert more, the bread pudding was warm and almost melts in your mouth. - Peach Cobbler with Oat Crumble: Not as sweet as expected, but lots of crumble to make it filling.
