My family and I came to dinner tonight to be seated and greeted by our amazing fun server, Laurie (possibly spelled wrong). She has worked there for 5 years and yes we asked all the questions! She recommended us getting the crab cakes as a starter. We also ordered meatballs and Brussels sprouts. ALL THE DISHES WERE DELICIOUS, especially the crab cakes. The main I ordered was the salmon and my husband got the steak. Both were cooked to perfection! The salmon was moist and not dry at all, the steak was a perfect medium as asked. We loved Laurie and Fable, will definitely come back! My dad and I are landscape designers which made my appreciation for the real plants and the ambiance of the restaurant amazing.
Fable is a fantastic little restaurant with an outdoor garden sitting area! There are only a few seats inside. The brunch menu had a wide range of options! The salads were extremely fresh and vibrant. All the food we had was excellent quality! The servers were kind, one even offering to move where we were sitting because the sun was in our eyes! The food and drinks came out quickly. Will definitely be going back!
Okay came here upon a recommendation from a friend who used to live nearby and I'm so glad I went! Came here on a Saturday brunch during the Castro street fair so things were crazy outside, yet their back door patio still felt peaceful. Great backdrop to the meal! The food was excellent. I got the cured ocean trout Benedict and was wowed by the color of the trout! Super vibrant and tasty fresh. The greens was a tasty compliment, and the eggs were cooked perfectly, but my biggest surprise was their delicious bread underneath. Seemed like homemade focaccia bread! Also the banana bread French toast is to die for. Get an order or two for the table. A bit too sweet and small for a main dish, but a perfect end of meal sweet treat. I'll definitely be back!
We wanted to have a ronantic dinner in the Castro District to celebrate my husband's birthday. Stumbled upon Fable on Yelp. The heated outdoor garden like Patio seating lured us in. We started with their steamed Mussells w/ Sausage, that was really good. I had to scoop off the renai g broth as it was so yummy. Then Tyler orderd the 10 oz. NY steak. The only Negative was that it came with battered onion rings which kinda cheapened the $42 steak. I had the Braised Pork Shank which was Perfection. Had their Brioche Bread Pudding w/ Caramel sauce. Also good. But what really gained our attention is our server DYLAN, very welcoming always had a smile on his face. We're already planning my Birthday dinner for 10-12 people to be held there.
Brunchin' in the Garden Vibes! First time at Fable and I can totally see why it's a fave for so many. We came for brunch and only waited about 10 minutes before being seated on the back patio...so cute! Great atmosphere, perfect weather, and loved the garden vibe! I came with my daughter who's basically a Fable regular. She swears by their Eggs Benedict, and honestly, next time I'll follow her lead. I ordered the Chilaquiles, and... meh. It was not it. Didn't hit the spot or cure the craving. Wouldn't recommend them, but I'm not mad about it either. Shoutout to our server, super friendly, attentive, and really kept the good vibes flowing. I'll definitely be back, just ordering something different!
I discovered Fable on Yelp when looking for a lunch spot not too far from Twin Peaks. The garden seating looked beautiful and street parking was easy to find nearby. When we arrived, the garden area was full so we were seated at one of the tables out front - less vibey, but good for people watching. For drinks, they had a few zero-proof wines, so I decided to try the non-alc Sauvignon Blanc. It was a little sweet for me, but still tasty. For food, I ordered the Fried Rocky Jr. Organic Chicken Sandwich. There was some confusion because I asked for no savoy cabbage/sweet pepper slaw, but was given no side salad instead. I was starving, so I ended up just eating the sandwich as is. I wasn't a huge fan of the slaw, but I liked the flavor of the chipotle aoili and the soft brioche bun. The chicken itself was pretty good, although I could've done with thinner breading. My friend got the Buttermilk Biscuits and Pork Sausage Gravy and my grandma chose the Nicoise Salad with Striped Bass. Both dishes were good, but nothing special. Service was friendly, (although a little on the slower side), but pricing was very reasonable. Overall, solid for lunch!

This was a last minute spot. All of us have never heard of it, but we had just picked up a friend from SFO and wanted a good brunch spot w some variety that stayed open past 2pm. Definitely a surprisingly great pick!! The service was great. I didn't get our servers name, but he was great. Honestly all staff that walked past us and everyone we interacted with was great! The food was yum! Pancakes gave homemade, but tasty. The peaches were definitely a good addition. The chicken sandwich was cool, but the breading was a bit much and it was too salty unfortunately. The burger was great, and I wish it was what I got bc it literally looked mouth watering The mimosa with the blood orange juice was chefs kiss!!!! So good that we got 2! We asked for juice in the side, as we don't love a pre mixed mimosa. Definitely the way to go so you can do your own juice to champagne ratio. Although we didn't expect much from this place, the seating area out back, the service, and the meal was great! I will definitely come back. I need to check out their dinner menu to see if that menu is good!! read more
We came for dinner and I was craving a burger. I was happy with my choice. My friend, not so happy with his... service was excellent and the outdoor seating is so aesthetic. Cheeseburger- I didn't realize it would be a double patty. Very filling, I could only eat half. My friend who didn't like his choice luckily finished the other half of my burger. The burger was juicy and cheesy. I should have said hold the cheese but the burger was still a solid choice Glazed pork chop- seemed more like a glazed pork belly. It came with a large helping of cabbage... if you're a fan of cabbage. I would return to try other options on their menu. read more

Good service and good food! Got seated at the parklet for brunch with a group of friends bc the garden patio was closed for an event. The service is pretty fast and attentive. The Benedict is delicious, I love a thick cut of ham and the rosemary focaccia bread is an amazing, tasty idea to replace English muffins. I thoroughly enjoyed my biscuits and gravy. I liked how the breakfast potatoes were crispy - mushy breakfast potatoes are the worst at brunch! I also enjoyed a side of fresh fruit, I loved how they used seasonal fruit and loaded up the bowl. The figs and peaches were so yummy with the rest of the standard strawberry, bananas, and apples The star of the show most definitely was the chocolate chip banana bread. The bread is soft but crispy at the top, almost like a crème brulee. There's the right amount of chocolate chips and the banana bread is simply delicious. This is a must get. I would come back for this dish One thing I did not enjoy at the parklet was that I would get whiffs of urine at some points throughout the meal. Food was average. Service was attentive except I found it very odd she didn't ask if we wanted boxes to take home the leftovers since we had decent leftovers. She did what some servers do, look to your friend directly with eye contact and instead of both of us. She just cleared the plates completely after asking if we were finished. The patio was a cute vibe, but honestly the food was not worth the bill. The sea bass wasn't deboned properly it had a ton of bones. read more

Damn I actually forgot to take photos of the food cause I got too excited by how cute the garden patio looked and only took photos of that :') let the photo speak for itself! The food was really good too! We ordered the double cheeseburger and the salad with blue cheese (I forget what it's called). And both were super tasty. The fries that came with the burger were EXTRA good so definitely make sure you get the fries if possible. Overall had a pleasant dining experience here and would come back again! read more
Met my Peninsular friend for brunch here. I can see why she loves it - super nice staff, lovely restaurant especially the outdoor area, and tasty food. I had the French toast & my friend had the Caesar salad. Plus latte & cappuccino. Very nice brunch! I'd drive over from Oakland, through Bay Bridge traffic, again for another brunch here! read more
My wife and I stopped by Fable for dinner with a group of friends on a Saturday evening and we got seated at a table in the back patio area. The part indoor, part outdoor space is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere feels very cozy. The night was a bit cold on our visit but there were plenty of heat lamps in the space to ensure that everyone stayed warm. The service and atmosphere were great but that's unfortunately the highlight of our dinner. The food was unremarkable, especially for the price. I ordered their $38 New York strip steak and it was tough, needed more seasoning and the chimichurri was too runny and lacked the taste of fresh herbs. The potato galette was the best item on the plate: the crispy edges were wonderful. However, like the steak, it too needed a touch more salt. I tried out a bit of my wife's pork chop ($33) and it was on the dry side: it certainly needed all the BBQ sauce that was smothered in top. I didn't have high expectations for dessert because my entree was so disappointing but the bread puddling was shocking good! I enjoyed the freshly whipped cream and the warmed bread pudding slices were toasted nicely. Overall, I can't recommend Fable without reservation because of their fairly limited, classic, uninspired entree offerings and lack of cocktails. Definitely check out their menu beforehand so you can set the proper expectations. read more

Lovely place! I recently enjoyed brunch here and had the pleasure of sitting in the stunning back garden area! Loved the cozy atmosphere filled with fresh air, lush plant life, and welcoming natural light! Space was clean, relatively quiet. Loved the refreshing Amalfi Spritz cocktail (would rate 5/5). For food, I'm not a big egg guy so I ordered the fried chicken sandwich (would rate 5/5). The sandwich came freshly cooked- loved the crispy breading on the meat, but my favorite part was the slaw on the sandwich. The mixture of the aioli with the crispy chicken and crunch slaw was flavor and texture paradise. The bread of the sandwich was slightly dry but it still worked. Sandwich came with a fresh salad of mixed greens in a vinaigrette- nice compliment to the sandwich. Good portion sizes. My partner ordered quinoa brunch bowl which I sampled (would rate 3/5). The bowl comes with quinoa, poached egg, vegetables, and a vinaigrette. Unfortunately the egg was overcooked or at least cooked to the point the yolk had mostly hardened. Conceptually, with runny yolk, the dish would work but otherwise and in this case it was very dry. I also personally thought the bowl was devoid of flavor and needing hot sauce or some other spices. Service was 4/5- pleasant host greeted and seated us. A younger gentleman took our drink order and was attentive and polite. Our server, Claire, was friendly but slightly inattentive and absent. For example, she came to check on us after we had the food for quite some time (I was finished with the sandwich)- asking if she could bring any salt and pepper or hot sauce. read more

This is one of my favorite places for an outdoor patio atmosphere. It's always so bright and lush, and it offers a lively environment. The service is also great here; we were 10min late to our reservation, and they were still able to kindly accommodate us. The chilaquiles themselves were okay! Flavor felt a bit one-dimensional and chips were on the soggier end but still decent! read more
Nice patio with decent food, though nothing to rave about. Service was sub par, slow at serving water and taking order. We were also constantly threatened of being asked to leave if our dogs bark. This was strange as ive been here other times for dinner and never encountered. Total came to $40/person. With the quality of food, price and service, not sure if i'll return. read more
We came here for brunch and sat outside on the patio. Surprisingly, there was plenty of seating, and it was very pleasant on a warm day. We ordered the burger to split between two people, and that was definitely the right call. The burger was huge, and the fries were perfectly crisp. The eggs Benedict were also yummy, and I liked that they were placed on house-made focaccia. The French toast stole the show, and I would highly recommend it. I deducted one star for the service as we found ourselves waiting around a lot and needing to flag down the servers. read more

I give Fable a 4/5 stars. I reserved a Saturday brunch table in the garden patio. It was beautiful and charming. There is so much natural light, and it's also covered which was good because it was sprinkling a bit. The food was wonderful! We started off with Spicy Bloody Marys which were tangy and delicious. I had the Steak Eggs Benedict and it was buttery goodness. I loved the focaccia as the base, because it was soft and easy to cut through. The salad was thoroughly dressed as well. Do not skip the breakfast potatoes! I had a bite of my friend's and they were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. While all the employees were kind and attending, we did have some forgotten drinks and sides during our stay. Nothing a quick reminder couldn't fix though. All in all it was a positive experience and I'd dine at Fable again for brunch in the Castro! read more
This place is great for brunch! They've got outdoor seating in the front and a cute patio in the back. Food is good and on par with Starbelly. Not a ton of options but just the right amount. The French toast was really good and comes on a baguette. Sadly, the steak on the steak Benedict was pretty tough so I wouldn't order that again. They also have a full bar so all in all, I'd recommend checking it out if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Came here with a group of a birthday brunch. We sat outside and it was so cute and pretty warm (they had heat lamps) as I didn't have a jacket. They brought all of our food out together. I ordered the chilaquiles and it was delicious! The egg was great and I was given a generous amount of chips. The ambience is great. Prices are about what you'd expect and my friends really enjoyed their dishes as well! read more
Friend took me here for lunch! Apparently if you want a seat in the main restaurant you need to make a reservation up to a week in advance. But we were lucky to land the singular table in the front of the restaurant at the window. It was nice outside , mid 50s, way better than Boston currently, so I enjoyed the breeze. My friend got an egg sandwich. I got the fried Rocky jr chicken sandwich. It was perfect but a lot for my stomachless self. Ended up taking chicken off bread and eating with the salad. The salad was perfect Even without the chicken. My friend enjoyed her sandwich. It's a busy place but servers are still attentive. Prices decent. I would definitely return! read more
Made a reservation a week before for 3 people around 630pm on a Friday. My friend was there on time but they couldn't sit him at the table because we were running late within the 15 min grace period. We sat in the back patio. It was a very beautiful spot! Love the lights and the heater was making us feel like we were inside which was great. Service was good until we told our server that the Ahi Tuna Tartare didn't taste fresh. It was mushy, in fact, it tasted like it was sitting out for a while. Whether it was or not, it tasted like it and it only took one bite for us to notice it tasted off. He apologized and took the dish back to the chef. Then he came back and said the chef tried it and said it was fine, but he still offered a new order to replace that dish or to make it again. The gesture was appreciated, but we didn't need to hear the chefs opinion after the fact. To us, it didn't taste fresh. We didn't need a defensive explanation. We've tasted tuna tartare from across the world and this one was the worst by far. The Fable's 1/2 lb. Deluxe Cheeseburger was average. The bun was breaking apart because of the juicy meat patty. It was difficult to eat so I had to rush eating it before it fell fully apart. Overall, not that impressed. read more
Fable is such a gem in the castro area. With great service and a super cute outdoor seating area filled with plants it's the perfect lunch spot. We ordered the turkey sandwich and ahi tuna salad. The sandwich was amazing, the turkey not dry at all and the house made focaccia bread was so soft and herb-y. The salad was also yummy but the tuna which was a bit bland and in my opinion. I had this place on my list for a while and I'm glad it was open on Jan 1st. The garden with all the lights looks magical and cozy. Service is so friendly and warm. Restrooms weren't very clean and ran out of soap but nothing alarming. -NY Strip Stake. Nice portion, tasty, tender meat. Didn't taste the horseradish, it needed more but it was still delicious. -Bread pudding. Nice to share. Not too sweet. It was good, not the best I had though. -Lemonade. Yes. Not sweet. Enjoyed it. Great spot, nice for dates or brunch with friends. I always feel so welcome in Castro. Thank you for working that day. Will comeback! read more
I came here for brunch with a friend in their backyard patio. It was decorated with vibrant colors, definitely a vibe, and it also got pretty hot from the greenhouse effect of their roof as it was a rare sunny day in SF this July. The server was great with refilling our water. I got a generous portion of perfectly runny Eggs Benedict with crispy potatoes, and my friend got the Fried Chicken Sandwich (not pictured) with a margarita. Our party of 8 had Sunday brunch here before hiking in nearby Corona Heights. We came in 3 cars and luckily, we were all able to find street parking within 1-3 blocks of the restaurant. We were hoping to score a table in their fabulous garden patio in the back, but unfortunately, we were told we had to reserve one week in advance for garden seating. However, they were able to seat us in a nice indoor area away from other tables, so we had a lot of privacy. Many of us ordered the eggs benedict over focaccia bread with a side of salad, and those who ordered the dish enjoyed it. One of us is a pescatarian so he inquired whether substitution is possible. He was happy when our server offered to substitute with avocado. Others enjoyed the red quinoa bowl with poached eggs and avocado. I liked my biscuit and gravy. We had a nice time here with a pitcher of mimosa and the good ambience. The service was good. However, with the automatic gratuity of 20%, SF Health Mandate of 7%, and 8.75% tax, the final tab was a lot higher than expected. read more
It has a Very very pretty backyard - perfect place to enjoy a good meal. They had limited vegetarian options but whatever they had tasted good. The vegan lasagna was delicious - especially loved the sauce which was so tasteful and flavorful. Even the banana bread with chocolate chips was very yummy. Tried the tuna tartare, heirloom tomato salad, halibut and double burger with fries and a bottle of sancere. Ok i still love this place: - patio full of plants is where its at - Bloody marias - pitchers of mango margarita (though we suspected they forgot the alcohol lol) - eggs Benedict and a bowl is what we had. The order got messed up 4 times but the waiter was so lovely that he comped us some sweets and eventually everything.. he didnt have to and we didnt ask for that but he owned the kitchens mistake which i find honorable and rare - also they are kind about subbing ham for avocado for example which is also great - all the staff are always welcoming, saying hello and also goodbye including kitchen staff read more
Wonderful central Castro location for a nice brunch. Outdoor patio seating in back is ideal but still great to enjoy indoors or out. Service is excellent. Enjoyed the Benedict served on focaccia and the side salad is simple and enjoyable. Chicken sandwich is tasty with a delicious light sauce and crunch. Loved the outdoor seating and being surrounded by nature, it was definitely quite unique. Fable is a very solid pick for brunch and there's a lot of food to choose from. I split the chicken sandwich and burger with my friend. Both were delicious and executed to perfection/packed with flavor, definitely very filling. With good food and a bright environment, I would totally return for brunch here again! read more
Note: If you're looking at the hours on here, they're incorrect. They're open for brunch everyday except for Sat & Sun from 11:30 am to 3 pm and dinner everyday from 5 pm to 10 pm! Happy hour 3 pm to 6 pm. Okay, let's get into it.. food was alright! The oven roasted chicken was good, nothing that was a wow factor but good and did the job! Loved the focaccia bread that it came on! The double cheeseburger is on the smaller side and cooked about medium! Same thing, wasn't a wow factor but didn't dislike it either. Fries came out perfectly hot and crispy! Service was great. Open seating on a Thursday in their back patio. Loved the lushness in the back and how happy it made you feel! Incredible meal! Fable has a diverse menu, extensive wine list, and above all, extremely friendly service. Everyone there is warm and courteous. Our server in particular was extremely attentive to us. The outdoor courtyard garden setting is extraordinary. Overall, a stellar experience. read more
My friends and I booked a large table in the back of Fable on a Friday night. It was ideal to eat as a group - they did ask us to place our orders all at once. They have a cute backyard with heat lamps, which you would never know from the street looking at the storefront. I got the pan roasted Rocky Jr chicken, which I give 4/5 stars. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked and the salad was luscious and full of delicious plums, apricots, and homemade croutons. The chicken was not super flavorful but overall a great dish. Two of my friends got the vegan lasagna which I tried - it came with a spicy red sauce, delicious noodles with bits of zucchini and vegan cheese crumble on top. Personally, I think the sauce had a little too much pepper/salt but my non-Italian friends both loved it. Would definitely recommend for vegans. My other friend got the pan seared salmon with quinoa and absolutely adored it. Lastly there is the mac and cheese, which is so hard to find in the Bay Area. The whole table adored this side dish, which was topped with Parmesan cheese. As a mac and cheese aficionado, I would come back just for this. read more

Weekends book out at least a week in advance but we do offer walk in seating everyday of the week at our front Parklet.

Definitely recommend making reservations outdoors. Indoors is quaint and private but the real star of this place is definitely the patio. It's so cute!
Has anyone ever seen dogs on the garden patio?..Fable says they are dog friendly but I can't seem to find any reviews on this so I think it's a bit odd.
