My first impression upon stepping into GiGi's was that the music was way too loud. Although branded as a Vietnamese inspired wine bar, it was as loud as a club with pulsating music that really didn't fit the mood or overall vibe of the place. I got the attention of one of the bartenders working the counter and informed her we had a reservation. We were soon seated and given bar bites and wine menus. When the waiter came to take our order, I opted for the Riesling glass of wine for something on the fruitier side. We also ordered the siu mai with lap xuong, shrimp bao, garlic noodles, and wagyu dog. The siu mai was the best item we ordered, but it was difficult to eat the dumplings with a fork, and they fell apart. Chopsticks would've been way easier to use for this item. Everything else tasted rather meh, and nothing tasted anything like authentic Vietnamese food. The sauce in the shrimp bao didn't pair well. I'm not sure how to describe it other than it was too creamy but not savoury enough. The garlic noodles were extremely salty and tasted nothing like the Vietnamese late night staple. Instead what we got here tasted more like Italian or French Asian fusion. I didn't even try the wagyu dog, since hot dogs aren't my preference, but I tasted the pork floss topping and didn't like the flavour, as some of the kewpie and sriracha had gotten mixed in. Overall, GiGi's felt more New American than Asian or even Asian fusion, let alone Vietnamese. If it were branded as a New American/fusion bar, I'd rate it slightly above average, but at face value as a Vietnamese inspired establishment, it fell way below my expectations. The bar was really busy but luckily we were able to get counter seating right away. A fun ambiance although it got quite loud while we were talking. We tried: - NON 1 - nonalcoholic sparkling wine with raspberries and chamomile! Such a delicate and refreshing drink (and also cute with its rosy tones) - scallop ceviche: super fresh and the sauce was really flavorful/had very clear Vietnamese influence - wagyu hotdog: while delicious and piled high with toppings, not worth the price because it is a hotdog at the end of the day/you can't really appreciate the wagyu. The flavor profile (again, very delicious!!) can be found in a savory bun at a Chinese bakery - garlic noodles: I inhaled this one - I love garlic noodles to begin with, but these were extra umami and indulgent. Loved the addition of shiitake here. - house made laughin' calf cheese tarte - the server suggested having this at the end which was cool! It presented like a beautiful cheesecake so my taste buds had to reorient with every bite's actual taste and texture (not in a bad way at all!). Did a little wine bar hopping on a Sunday afternoon and came to Gigi's for the first time. Almost every seat was taken around 4pm, the energy was definitely buzzing and the vibe was very fun. We had a glass of white and a chilled red, both great recs from the staff. We were intrigued by the Asian-inspired food menu, but only got the bread and butter and shrimp chips as a little snack. I went with a friend of mine on Thursday night few weeks ago around 7pm (I booked a table days before) and we ate at the communal table (a table shared with other few couples). The menu is really interesting and we shared few things: the bread, the mapo noodles and the tuna salad. Everything was delicious (the noodles more spicy than I thought, but they were really good). It's a wine bar, so I thought to find someone really skilled about it, but when I asked for a non-sweet wine, the wine the waiter suggested wasn't really what I asked for. Cute and intimate wine bar with good food and wine, perfect for GNO or date night! It's extremely small inside though, with limited seating and space, so my recommendation is to make a reservation ~1 week in advance so you can snag one of the tables in the back and have your own space. Highlights of the night were the Garlic Noodles and Bread and Butter. The noodles were so flavorful and umami and the bread rolls were perfectly fluffy and sweet, but toasty at the same time. We also ordered the Shrimp Baos and Wagyu Dog - I'd get the Shrimp Baos again, but I'd probably pass on the Wagyu Dog next time. Would definitely come again with 1-2 girlfriends max (due to limited seating) for small bites and drinks! After seeing some reviews about Chef Ty's newest wine bar endeavor, I had to check it out myself. Contrary to some reviews about this place being over rated, I had an amazing experience. Here's what I ordered: +caesar salad - your standard Caesar salad with a Vietnamese twist. Wish there was a little some fish sauce or Vietnamese flavor, but it was still good +wagyu dog - prosciutto, furikake, pork floss on a perfect Feybesse bakery bun. This is an amazing wine bar and restaurant bite. +mapo tofu noodle - this tasted like maruchan stir fry noodle but in a good way! I wish it had more of a mapo tofu flavor +basque cheesecake - must get this. This was the best thing of the night next to the hot dog. The jackfruit and cheesecake combo is divine In addition to the amazing service and ambiance, the wine selection is pretty exquisite. Vietnamese Caesar salad is, for me, a top 3 salad in SF alongside the tea leaf salad at Inle Burmese (yes I've tried them all and it's definitely the best) and the kale salad at Laundromat. Incredible. I could have eaten 5. The hot dog is also exceptional and one of my the favorites I've ever had. I feel like I eat a lot of specialty hot dogs at places like Hayz Dog and their cohort around the Bay Area and this was just really amazing. They take reservations online too so it's good to make a reservation online if you want a table. If not, they have bar seating. We ordered all the mains and all the desserts. The hotdog and the banh mi were really good. The mapo tofu noodles were solid, it was a decent portion size for bar food and I liked the tofu and the mushrooms. My friends and I came in on a Wednesday with no reservations and we were able to get seated a small counter with high chairs. We appreciate the accommodations! Great cozy and intimate ambiance. I enjoyed a nice glass of white wine which was priced fairly. Among the 3 of us, we shared a dozen oysters, the Wagyu dog, the banh mi, and the ceviche. Dozen oysters: tasted fine for me but unfortunately for my friend, the ones she had were grainy and missed the mark for her. The banh mi mentioned truffle pâté and I couldn't taste any truffle. It was a good banh mi but overpriced for what it was. The ceviche was supposed to have a lemongrass taste to it per its description and even though it was tasty - I didn't get the Vietnamese inspiration I was looking for. Lastly, our favorite bite of the night was the Wagyu dog. It had amazing flavor profile with nice texture. Really innovative and delicious hot dog. I tried several items on the menu and my favorite would have to be the wagyu hot dog! I used to and still buy a hot dog 8 out of 10 times I go to Costco. We ordered it with shrimp and they somehow forgot to put it in the order even though no one was dining except us and 1 other person. It took another 10 minutes for 3 small overcooked shrimp to come out. Wagyu dog was served on such a small tray that all the pork floss and stuff on top was falling on the table. Overall the hotdog was good but didnt match the rest of the menu. The sauce also comes down the sides and you end up with a sticky hand which is not fun when youre drinking wine and wearing nicer clothes. I wouldve gave this place another chance if it wasnt for the poor service staff and the lack of menu items. Mainly the service staff. Honestly, I'm not much a review person. However, after my experience last night I felt leaving a review was needed. My partner, our friend and I came for reservation at 5pm. This was my 3rd visit and unfortunately; this was the second time I've received poor service. When I asked for our bottle of wine; I shared we'd love to do orange and then waitress could choose the bottle. Her response "I'll keep it on the low end" as if we couldn't afford any of the "higher" priced bottles. Whatever, maybe this was misunderstood. We ordered the shrimp chips and ceviche. Shrimp chips were disappointing; I've had them before and they were more like a "lays chip" and last night they were like mini cheese puffs. Not as flavorful either. We all drank our first glass. Then a second waiter comes by and takes all our empty glasses. At first I'm like, oh he's just taking them to the bar to refill. But no, he comes back and was like "I didn't know you had a bottle... let me get you fresh glasses" If we didn't have a bottle; why not ask if we wanted another glass? We then continued to sit there sipping on wine. The waitress never came back. No one ever asked us if we wanted more food. The guy waiter came back thru and took all our menus. & said nothing. Everyone that worked there continuer to stay behind the bar. We were there for 55 min and in that time no one ever came back to check on us OR even ask if we wanted more. We all decided... it's just time to go; we were frustrated, hungry and disappointed. We asked for the check. And the waiter asked if we wanted the last of our bottle. We're like yes please. Only wish it came with more than 1 very thin small chip. The cheese plate was good but felt way overpriced. It was 1 cheese, 1 lychee cut up, 3 tiny pieces of jackfruit, some shredded carrot, nuts, and a couple thin smears of spread. It came with the milk bread but was a bit over baked. There's never enough bread or crackers so forces you to buy more or waste the food. So we ordered more bread which was also over baked but slightly less than the first plate. The noodles were the best part. They def had some kick with the chili in it which I liked but could be a bit spicy for some. I'm glad I was able to check this place out. The entire bar and window area was empty when we arrived but we still got sat with four other strangers at an 8-person communal table where we shared awkward side-glances and hellos. I probably should've asked to sit at the bar. Someone told me it was Vietnamese-inspired but the only Vietnamese ingredients on the January menu was fish sauce and maybe scallions. I would say this is pan-asian or asian-fusion. The mapo tofu noodles and the parisian matcha flan, I'd recommend. The wagyu dog was overly-flavored, major food truck vibes. Went to the newly opened Gigi's this past Sunday and managed to get seats at the bar. We arrived around 5:30 PM and it was already a full house. I believe the tables are reservation only with the bar area being first come first served. Loved the recommendations from the bartenders Lo and Kelly. Lo was very knowledgeable of the food/wine menu. Overall, service was attentive and fun while still being relaxed. The wagyu hot dog was our favorite and super flavorful. We also experienced their "chambongs" which is a fun way to drink champagne out of a unique glass. Went to a tasting menu/wine pairing at this spot on a little girls' trip.... Not good. Not good at all. First of all, all of the patrons sitting around us left SIGNIFICANT amounts of food on their plates, so I don't think we were the only ones to feel the way we did. The portions for this "tasting" menu were ENORMOUS. It was way too much food for one person, and we were very bummed about having paid over $80 PER PERSON, when we could've shared! Secondly, and most disappointing, the food was not good... like, I understood where the chef was going with the ideas of the dishes, and they sounded like they would work, but (and I don't want to sound like I know more than I do, because I'm not a chef) they were super out of balance. For example, we had lobster toasts that tasted like bacon. Now, I love bacon as much as the next person, but I also love lobster and expect my lobster to taste like lobster, not bacon. The noodle dish was very sweet, too sweet. And the "laughin' calf" cheese tart was... gross... sorry. The tart shell was nice. The wine pairing was not good either. It just felt very thrown together, like the winery wanted to feature its wines and it didn't really matter what the kitchen was serving. This little place is very sweet though.
