    Pate Maison
    Anh T.

This was a great spot for dinner! My friend and I had made a reservation on a weekday night. We started with their pate maison, which was rich, slightly heavy on the pate, but smooth and full of flavor. The salad variety helped balance out the heavier pate. We also tried their pasta printemps, which was fresh and really satisfying. It was a contrast to the pate and more well-balanced. Good dining experience with dishes that were comforting.

Seafood stew - forgot menu name. Delicious

Very cute and delicious restaurant. First time to a place in sf where menu price already included tax and tip. It's refreshing and I wis more places would do this. I had the petite salad and bourride zazie. At first I wasn't impressed with the salad. Just came out with a healthy serving of mixed greens but the dressing made it all better. I had it on the side and end up eating the whole bowl of salad. $9 The bourride or seafood stew was divine - very flavorful and monkfish was tender. $49 My friend had the salmon which she ate to the last bite. The warm bread and butter was a nice opening and it was free. The place was cozy and welcoming. Definitely will be back. Only odd thing was the credit card surge of 2.9%. For a restaurant that was trying to eliminate extra charges, weird to get a $2 extra charge for my $70 meal. Wish they would just build that in to complete the experience. Otherwise a very nice evening and yummy food

    Mexico scramble

Whenever I'm in Cole Valley I always see a big crowd outside Zazie, so my partner and I finally decided to try it and see what the hype was about. Prices are on the higher side, but that's because they pay staff an hourly wage and the restaurant is tip-free, which I appreciated. The employees all seemed genuinely happy and were very friendly when greeting diners. The space is a bit tight, with lots of tables inside and out. They also have a heated back patio, which makes outdoor seating comfortable even on cold, gloomy SF mornings. I ordered the Mexico scramble which has chorizo, white cheddar, roasted peppers, and salsa fresca. It also comes with a side toast and home fries. The dish was tasty and they were generous with the chorizo. I especially liked the pico de gallo on top, though I wished it had a bit more spice. The potatoes were nicely crispy and the toast was... well, standard toast. My partner ordered the seasonal huevos rancheros which had eggs, beans, tortillas, avocado, queso fresco, and pico de gallo. He really enjoyed the flavors and thought it was a solid dish. We also shared a side of pancakes, and those were definitely the highlight. They were warm, fluffy, and perfect with the maple syrup. If you go, I'd strongly recommend ordering pancakes. Overall, the food was good but didn't quite live up to the long wait and hype for us. Service was friendly, but after our order was taken it was hard to get drink refills or additional help. Everyone was nice, just a bit forgetful.

Really great dinner spot in Cole Valley. The service was very nice and the waitress was knowledgeable on the wine and food. Highly recommend their pre-fix menu option. Will definitely be back.

Not sure if I would return because the wait could be quite long. This place is also tiny and the tables were stacked to next each other, feeling crammed. Nothing extravagant or bad about their food. You can't really mess up pancakes and sandwiches. lol

TLDR: Zazie is a nice local brunch spot in Cole Valley, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Food was good but nothing particularly special that you couldn't find elsewhere in the city. Service was a bit slow during an off-peak time, and the ambiance / environment was just fine. Prices were definitely high relative to what you're getting, but partially because they embed the tip in the menu prices. Still, we had a nice time and enjoyed our meal here. ------ FOOD: 1. MIRACLE PANCAKES (5/5) If I ever come back, would definitely order these again. They're thicker than their normal pancakes (maybe 2-3x thicker), much more moist, and topped with a big dollop of whipped cream and soft, caramelized banana slices. Plus some syrup, and this is a wonderful sweet bite for brunch. 2. BUTTERMILK PANCAKES (4/5) Had a strong buttermilk flavor, which I appreciated. These are thin pancakes about the size of a large dinner plate (so substantial). However, I thought they were a bit dry and really needed syrup to taste good. I'd definitely pay up to get something like the Miracle pancakes instead, or maybe one of their french toasts. 3. EGGS WITH CHICKEN APPLE SAUSAGE (3.5/5) I got two soft scramble eggs with 2 stout sausages, wheat toast, and their salad. Salad was basic -- just mixed greens and some dressing. Wheat toast was a single small piece of toast that was somewhat toasted and cut in half. Sausages were good but they're small. Eggs were cooked too long to be considered "soft scramble" so they were just fully scrambled eggs, which was fine with me but worth noting. They were completely unseasoned though, so I had to add a lot of salt and pepper to taste. In general, they have an extensive menu of eggs (in many formats), breakfast meats, sandwiches, salads, and pancakes, so most people can find something that generally suits them. ------ SERVICE: * Our waitress was nice enough but service in general was lackluster. There were 5 of us at the table but they only brought 4 water glasses. Then later a different waitress brought some pancakes and she gave us a bit of attitude when we surprisingly remarked (amongst ourselves!) that this wasn't quite what we ordered * Waiting to get our orders taken and then to get the check took some time even during off-hours for brunch, though it was a Saturday * When you arrive you can put your name down on an iPad they have outside to get on the Yelp waitlist ------ AMBIANCE / ENVIRONMENT: * No frills, wooden tables, just felt like your local spot that's been dutifully serving its neighborhood for many years * Great place for a casual catch up with friends (if you're near the area). They can comfortably accommodate tables of up to 6 people, and for anything above 6 you just need to speak with them * Parking can be a bit tough to find in this area but there are so many streets nearby where you might be able to find an opening, so budget in 10 extra minutes * The neighborhood in general was so cute and residential. Lots of dogs, felt super safe, and some cute shops nearby, though this street of stores / restaurants is not very long

Deliciousness all around...except the regular coffee. I had the bananas foster French toast and it was amazing. Unlike anything I would usually order so I'm glad I did. The place was packed mid morning on a weekday. Service was good and attentive. If I had actually looked and known a regular black coffee was going to cost me $6 I would have skipped it or ordered a specialty coffee that was a little less or even gone to Peet's just 2 doors down and ordered a decent coffee from them instead.

Went here with my mom after going to the De Young museum and it was lovely! Our sever was fabulous and very personable. Beautiful ambience in the back patio and very busy for a Thursday night! Food was delicious and we ended up getting a bunch of apps. In the past I've only come for brunch but dinner was fabulous too. Highly recommend!

    Coq au vin

Hands down my absolute favorite neighborhood place. Been eating here for years and plan to continue to do so. I skip the weekend Brunch lines and come mid week for breakfast. From the hamburger, chicken, fish and pastas you can't go wrong. I've tried all the menu items. The cheese plate and burger are my go to but they n this last visit they had a seasonal Cassoulet and braised duck leg with sausage and white beans was perfect for a cold evening. My partner ordered the Coq au vin and it melted in your mouth. The staff make this neighborhood spot special. They make feel at home and are fun and engaging. It can get busy but worth the wait. I especially like seeing neighbors also dinning here and that's like umami.

St. Trop - wild smoke salmon Benedict (2eggs)

It's been a long while since I visited the Haight district. This neighborhood reminds me of the East Village in New York. I ordered the St. Trop, and it was delicious. Everything tasted fresh, well balanced, and comforting in that classic French brunch kind of way. My friend ordered a Benedict from the specials menu (I wish I remembered the name), and she loved it and kept saying how good it was. One thing that really makes this place stand out is their no tipping model. The price you see on the menu is exactly what you pay, since it already includes tax, tip, and all fees. It feels a little surprising at first, especially since the prices look higher, but it makes sense once you realize everything is bundled in. A small detail to note is that the Benedicts are priced per egg. So if you are expecting the usual two slice of English muffin with an egg on each side, you will need to order two eggs. Not a huge deal, but something to be aware of when ordering. The vibe here is great too. It gave me a kinda NY hipster vibe. It has that cozy neighborhood bistro feel. It was raining the day we went, but I can see the patio would been my preferred area to enjoy my brunch on a dry day. That said, the service was a bit of a miss for me. My water was never refilled throughout the meal, which was a bit of a bummer, especially since I rushed to get there and was pretty parched. Prices are on the higher side, but between the quality of the food and the overall experience, I can look past it. It is one of those places you go to enjoy your time, not just the meal. Overall, I would say it is more of a 3.5, but I am rounding up to a 4 because the food really delivered and the concept is pretty unique.

    Egg Benedict

My partner moved into the neighborhood and had a chance to try this with him and my pals! The Benedict's here are top tierrrr and have the be my new favorite. I don't know how different the egg Benedict sauce different but there is something just much more tasty here. The prosciutto is really fresh too! They also offer backyard seating and is very spacious for their nook. Seating is accommodating for 6! Very kind hosts and servers; very family friendly.

Went here for valentines day brunch and I will be coming back for sure! I had the fountain bleu scramble and it was delicious! It was extra delicious if you add avocados to it. We also got the pancake flight and I surprisingly really enjoyed the original pancake the best. I brought my dog and wait times weren't too crazy since we did outdoor seating. The outdoor patio and inside decor were cute and decorative for Valentine's Day. Great place overall.

Enjoyable quiet dinner. Birthday celebration. Not crowded like breakfast. Rose drink was ok. We each got a hot bun with butter. Nice and soft inside. Pate was spread on toasted home made bread on some greens. Bread was toasted which made the pate melty. Whipped. They wete out of pork chop and escargot. Entree was borride seafood with seasonal fish which turned out to be monk fish. The dish had a little spicyness. Came in a flat iron saucepan which was nice and hot. Two prawns and tony mussels. Chunks of fish and e pieces of toasted baguette. Dessert was one chocolate pot de cream (my favorite) and creme brulee (my friend's favorite). No tips needed. All included in the price. Service was excellent. Got some hot water with lemon. Cozy place.

How much is the health insurance charge now?

25% of every menu item is paid out to the staff.

Is there still a health insurance charge on all meals?

Yes there is still a health insurance charge.

Are you still requiring proof of vaccination?

No you don't need proof of vaccination

Do you allow combinations for an eggs benedict order? Let's say is it possible to order in 1 plate a La Mer and Bretagne?

Ha! I tried that. The answer was no, but I could get 1 of the ingredients I wanted as a side.

Do you allow BYOB? Any corking fee?

Tuesday Night is No Corkage, so you can bring in as many bottles as you can gracefully handle. Any other night, corkage is $20 up to 2 bottles.

Is the hollandaise sauce gluten free?

It is gluten free! And you can also substitute a GF English muffin as well.

How can I reserve for birthday brunch for a group of 8 people?

Unfortunately they don't take reservations, but it wouldn't hurt to ask

What exactly are the vegan brunch options? I didn't see any except for oats?

The vegan breakfast was awful. I found a massive piece of salami in mine

    Are there any vegan options?

Yes! We do have some vegan options for brunch and dinner. They are a bit limited...it's a bit tricky to avoid butter at a French Bistro, but we have things that you'll enjoy.

Do you take reservations for breakfast? Or can we get on the waitlist via yelp?? Thinking of coming in on Tuesday for a group of four on the patio.

Zazie doesn't take reservations. Your whole party must show up together, get on the wait list, and wait out in front to be seated.

Are there heaters for outdoor dining?

    Yes

Do you have to use the Yelp wait-list kiosk at the restaurant or can you join the Yelp wait-list via your own phone?

Unfortunately it was unsuccessful on our end to have the remote sign in on Yelp Waitlist available. People were very late for their seating, didn't show up at all, or even signed up from other countries, so you do need to sign up on our Kiosk at the… Read more

Are they still open for dining on their patio or outside? Thanks!

Yes they are, great service, go online to their yelp page, they have a waitlist online if it's busy

How long is the wait for lunch on weekdays?

The wait for brunch on weekdays is much less than weekends, unless it is a holiday, or a big event is in town...think Bay 2 Breakers, Outside Lands, Hardly Strictly. So typically 20-30 minutes, at most, but more often you can come right in,… Read more

    Is this business kid-friendly?

Of course, they are soo accomodating to everyone!

    Is BYOB allowed?

On Tuesday they have BYO wine with no corkage fee!

Do they allow dogs on the back patio?

When I was there, the people next to me had a dog. Keep in mind the patio is very small. :)

Is it easy to find parking?

We usually find parking in the neighborhood; 2+ blocks away.

    What are their brunch hours?

    8-2

Hi! Does anybody know if the bloody marys are good? It's my GFs fave brunch drink and I'm thinking about taking her here for birthday brunch. LMK :)

Negative thoughts would generate actions , negative actions would generate negative prejudice. What were the odds of having a family and customer using malice in bad faith? I presented the legal tender of $100 bill to The server, he took the money and checked 4 times looking at the number at the front, he used his left hand using his fingernails to scratch the bill in a strange way, like if it was a lottery ticket or a gift card , we know that large bills should be checked. then stated that he cannot accept the bill and that he had no change. Immediately, objected to his statement. I told him I quote: " You didn't even open the cash register , how would you know if you have change or not " ? He responded sarcastically, I have been handling the money all day . I responded by saying: then you should know if you can make change or not . Furthermore, I stated to him that is not how you would check for a valid $100 bill . A special counterfeiting pen is ideal to check bills. I showed him the way to be checked by holding the bill upright and matching the serial numbers to the bill. He made no good faith effort to get help from his manager , to call someone or confer with a third party responsible. This has created an inconvenience for my family. Luckily, I brought a backup card and payed by discover card to diffuse the situation . I wonder how many $100 bills were passed by me for the last 10 years? I even suggested he should call the police if he was so sure that it was a counterfeit bill. It was certainly a legal tender of a good faith/ money and finance . Section U.S.C 31 5103. The Constitution says otherwise. The ice cream bar failed to warn . If it was a policy not to accept a $100 bill , it should have been known by a clear and convincing fact by posting a statement that " No large bills / $100 bills are accepted " in a clear view of customers to be seen. I have tried to communicate with the company's MANAGER by calling her 3 times . She did not bother to answer my request to address my concerns , " my phone calls were screened " and refused to take my phone calls or respond. See how easy to lose a customer. I will not recommend this place nor go black to this ice cream place.
