This was actually one of my favorite spots from my entire trip in SF, and I never see it talked about enough on social media. ABV is a casual tapas bar with a fun menu and great drinks. From the octopus fries, fried cauliflower and pickled edamame, every single bite was unique, well executed, and truly delicious. The pickled edamame sounds gimmicky, but it's really some of the best edamame I've ever been served. It's briny, salty, crunchy, and a perfect snack while you're drinking and catching up with friends. Everything was so flavorful! It's a dimly lit bar with well spaced seating, so it was honestly the PERFECT spot to catch up with friends as soon as I landed at the airport. I will definitely be back on later trips. I highly recommend this spot to anybody living here or visiting! read more

After what feels like a decade, I finally, finally, FINALLY got to try ABV's famed burger. Been wanting to come here since before I can remember and ever since we moved out near the park just haven't made it to the mission as often. To be clear this is a 3.5 rounded up for me, for good vibes and good service. Stopped by here before seeing a movie last weekend. We sat at the bar and were served promptly. I got a glass a wine and my husband got a beer. Note: this is DEF a true cocktail bar. Their beer and wine selection is minimal! However i thoroughly enjoyed the glass of red I got so didn't really care. Ordered a burger to split, fries and the edamame. The thing that shines most about this burger is the outstanding quality ans taste of the meat, as well as how well it was cooked. A perfect medium rare, juicy and delicious. My big gripe however is, unfortunately, the burger is just a tad bit bland. I love that you can really taste the meat. With the burger market inundated with smash patties these days it's so refreshing to get something where the meat shines. However it needed a tad more seasoning and/or a tad more sauce. Octopus A La Plancha: 5/5 octopus was grilled to perfection. Fries were also out of this world in terms of flavor and crisp. There was some sort of chimichurri sauce. This whole dish was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend. ABV burger: 5/5 simple burger with delicious pickles, highly satisfying I would order again. Suzuki Highball: 5/5 very refreshing even better cause it's low ABV, the Yuzu and strawberry flavors mixed together~ chefs kiss This place gets really crowded with what we ordered. It was enough for two people who were at a 6 in hunger on scale 1-10. It's open seating anywhere on first floor. The staff were really helpful and kind. Good vibes in this restaurant. Better than expected. While traveling to San Francisco for work, we went to ABV with a group of co-workers, and in the end, I was pleasantly surprised. Can't say much about the ambiance indoors as we just sat outside, but our bartender was amazing. She was quick to help with recommendations and always got the order right. But the true highlight was the menu. In terms of drinks, there are a variety of concoctions for all tastes, with some quite unique combinations. As for food, it is intended to be finger food; you can find everything from tacos to burgers to shishito peppers. Although the menu heavily weighs towards bar foods, there are some interesting alternatives that take it up a notch. For what's worth, people loved the shrimp tacos. All in all, if you want a place for drinks with good food, ABV is a great option. I am always on the search for late night good eats. Being the foodie night owl makes YELP a great tool to find the non-touristy spots. ABV pops up, open late & has soft shell crab tacos. SOFT SHELL CRAB tacos - interesting - a had to try. The food came out quick, hot and fresh. These tacos were phenomenal the appearance and the taste. Ahi Tuna was served with some delicious seaweed rice chips. YUM! Let's talk about the venue. I am not familiar with SF so I am barely getting to know the neighborhoods. After driving around like 10 times with the address in my GPS. I was stumped - really could not find it. Once I found parking I walked to find a trendy looking dim busy bar. When I walk in, it's a lot of people. It looks like there's bar seating everywhere. I am stopped by dark haired waitress who says to grab a seat anywhere & we'll come to you. I see a few open seats in the bar area. Too much going on there. So I go back to find the waitress to ask her if there's any tables to sit at. She reluctantly says yes, and walks me to the back room. There are a handful of long tables & more bar seating. I attempt to engage conversation with her about the difficulty to find the location because there is no obvious signage. I was taken back when I was sat next to a couple at a long table. Community style seating no biggie. But tell a girl, felt so awkward next to them. While making my order I tried to engage in conversation about the food. I am a chatty Cathy what can I say? Not a smile or further dialogue about the food. At first, I figured she was having a bad day or really isn't friendly. To be honest, her face looked like she was annoyed anytime she had to talk to me. The engagement & several other things that she did that made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome that I cut my visit short. Seriously, all I wanted was to try the tacos maybe ppl watch. As I left, I asked her name and politely let her know how I felt about her service. She had the audacity to act like she was surprised! Mind you this was as I left, that I had to ask Miss Leanna twice for her name. This was because she didn't once tell me it for all the times she encountered me. I came here for drinks, so I can't tell you much about the food (aside from that it exists). The drinks were varied and super interesting. The Send Noods was by far my favorite, somehow imbuing a cocktail with the essence of Asian noodles while still remaining a delicious drink. The place itself is smallish and cozy. The service was so-so. The waiter seemed high and their reservation system is confusing because they claim not to take reservations aside from very large groups, but a 6-8 person table was somehow reserved... I dropped by ABV for a work happy hour on a Tuesday evening, and I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming the space was. You're generally able to seat yourself, and we selected one of the large group high-tops in the back. They also have a lovely ring of seating around the bar and a few cozy wooden booths outside for other options. Their menu is quite extensive and is split by liquor type. They also have a great selection of low ABV and non-alcoholic drinks that were still quite tasty and beautiful, which I appreciated. I got their jumpstart (carrot, ginger, turmeric, lemon, and soda water), which was quite tasty. I definitely want to come back to try their some of their other non-alcoholic cocktails, particularly their N/A negroni. ABV is probably one of the best bars in the Mission. They're sitting at such a great location @16th and Valencia/Guerreo. It was packed on a Thursday night, we wanted to get a couple cocktails and a "girl dinner". The indoor seating has dim lighting, it's a common first date spot. They have outdoor patio with heating, perfect for these cold SF nights. I got the Pickle Drinky? I really liked it, I am a fan of the new wave of savory cocktails. Their Gin&Celery is my favorite cocktail on the menu. It's incredibly good- boozy, salty, vinegary notes? If you like salt and vinegar chips, I feel like you'd like this drink. It's not your classic romantic date-spot, but it can be intimate depending on your seating situation given the dim ambience lighting. Good bar to have convos (not too loud) or hang with friends. While dim, you probably don't want to canoodle here since you might be sharing a communal table with others, but it is a great spot to build up vibes for some canoodling later. In the process we needed and extra lime and so one of the people I was with grabbed a lime which is completely not okay (due to health code violations). Great service and personality across the board, really tasty snacks to munch on if you're killing time before dinner, spacious enough but still a cute intimate ambiance. My friend and I got a few cocktails here last night before our reservation at Dancing Yak down the street. I like how the drink menu is sectioned out by liquor with a respectable selection of shots and cocktails. Makes decisions a lot easier. Staff offered great recommendations and asked good questions. I loved the Tarragon Fix -- tequila, tarragon, lime, pineapple, and absinthe served in a frosty coupe glass. It was exactly what I was looking for. Fruity, sweet, sour, fresh, and hell of a kick. 10/10, no notes. The El Tejón was also a nice cocktail -- mezcal, lime juice, salt, cacao liqueur, chile liqueur. Different vibe, more smoky and salty. They were definitely pricy at $19 each, but well worth trying. Food was better than I could expect from a bar. Had fries and the fried cauliflower which was dusted in harissa and served alongside an aioli. Made me want to skip dinner and just settle in longer. Wish I did because I had a better time here than at the Yak. Had such a good time I forgot to take a single picture. 5/5, would gladly return. This might just be one of the best bars in SF! Walked in with no expectations and was shockingly blown away by their drinks and food. I'm normally not a big drinks girl, meaning I'll order them when out with friends but am fairly sensitive to drinks that taste strongly of alcohol and never fully finish my drinks. I ordered the Suzuki Highball tonight (per our lovely waitress's recommendation) and oh my goodness, this is probs one of the best, if not THE BEST, drinks I've had in the city! It tastes just like juice! You get the hint of Yuzu from the Yuzu liqueur which compliments the strawberry-ness of the rest of the drink SO WELL! Loved it so much that I don't even want to try another drink on the menu - this is my go-to! The fact that I basically finished it and was happily chugging it says a lot ;) My friend ordered the Tarragon Fix and Colorado Smoke - both of which were really unique and good too! I could really taste the mezcal and tequila in the Colorado Smoke, so while I probably wouldn't order it myself, the 1-2 sips I had were really good. Definitely a unique and good drink for those who love mezcal! The Tarragon Fix was also very unique... a very well-balanced drink that tasted herbaly but not medicinal. Both I'd give a solid 8/10! I also must come back to try their food! My friend and I came after dinner so even though we were both quite literally so stuffed, one whiff of the food got us perked and asking for the food menu. We tried the Cauliflower which was amazing and a good dish to have to munch on while chatting and drinking away! We only got the side of fries but they were really good for apps. I got the horchata colada and it is nothing like a horchata. Came here for the first time with some friends, had some nice conversations, though a bit tense. And then came here a second time with some other friends, partly to debrief on the first time. The heater for our covered space wasn't working, but it wasn't too cold. We came for the drinks, they were great. If you go and only order one item at ABV, get the burger. They have one of the best burgers I've ever had in SF (the picture only shows half as I got too excited to dig in before taking a picture). The bartenders/servers are very friendly and helpful - we walked in on a Friday at 5 and were surprised to see that the bar was already full. One of the bartenders was kind enough to move a few stools around to make two spaces at the bar for us to sit. There are also a few tables in the back and tables outside. Drinks were... ok. I got a Late Check-Out (gin, lemon, passionfruit, campari, manzanilla) and other folks in my group got a Roku Rikki (Roku gin, lime, lemongrass, soda), and a few beers. They weren't bad drinks by any means, but for $17 they didn't feel as "craft" as they could have been, especially compared to other places in SF like Persona, Pacific Cocktail Haven, or Dragon Horse. I might cautiously give this place another chance in the future, because I've heard (mostly) good things, and one mixed review. I had a deeply uncomfortable experience at ABV that I feel is important to share. During my visit, I tried to calmly express that I felt the staff was treating me differently and that the interaction felt discriminatory. Instead of taking my concern seriously, a staff member responded with the remark: "I will still sleep like a baby tonight." That response shocked me. Regardless of the situation, dismissing a guest's concerns--especially in that manner--felt unprofessional and disrespectful. I left feeling unwelcome, unheard, and embarrassed. read more
