I had a flight of their amaros and loved them all, followed by some excellent cocktails that highlighted their products. Dinner menu is designed for sharing/family style. Everything was delicious and creative. We started with their crispy chicken skins, a bitter lettuce ceasar, octopus salad, and their duck confit with a surprising corn couscous. We were blown away by every bite and sip! First of all, the waitstaff were so kind to seat us in the back room when we arrived and couldn't easily squeeze into the main dining area with one of our party in a wheelchair. Very much appreciated that accommodation. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and tasted even better. There was a special with homemade focaccia, ricotta, pesto, and eggplant + tomato tapenade. I could have eaten a bowl of every ingredient individually, and together they were even better than the sum of the parts. We also had the curry chicken croquettes, citrus caesar, confit octopus, and gnocchi - all fantastic. And the drinks - next level. I had the Sam Fernando and it was dangerously drinkable, I had to order a second. My partner's Bird of Paradise bamboozled us with its clarified coconut milk - so wild to drink something CLEAR that tasted so much like a piña colada! My friend and I happened upon this place when we were in the area & wanted a cocktail. The host was super friendly & sat us right away at the bar. All of the bar tenders were equally as friendly and explained their spirits. The cocktails were so cute and both resembled a fruit or vegetable. We shared a few appetizers, the bread with cacio e pepe spread & bacalao mantecato. The bread was fresh baked & delicious, I honestly would come back just for the bread . I recommend the distillery tour: $45/person. They have some very interesting machinery. They serve up a spritz when everyone arrives. Aftward, there is a tasting of 4 of their amaros, with a few snacks. It's a flavor adventure; the amaros are much sweeter, delicate, and nuanced than standard amaros. Here's the run-down: Orchards: 23% ABV: A softer, lighter, and more nuanced version of Amaro Montenegro. Woodlands: 21% ABV: Very heavy cacao note with figs. It's almost a chocolate liqueur. Can be used in place of Averna in a Black Manhattan. Fields: 35% ABV: Very sweet, and heavy on the celery and butterscotch. Chaparral: 46% ABV; A lighter version of Green Chartreuse that is heavy on the mint and green tea. After the tour, you can stay and order food at the tasting table, but it's better to make a reservation in the main dining room. The place is small and books up way in advance. K&L Wines sells the amaros for less than the price at the distillery. read more

Were I wishing to impress a special someone with my gift for finding hidden gems while also saying I have money without coming out and saying it, Brucato would be where I'd head. I'd also head there for the delightful ambiance, food, and drink presented with polish, and stellar hospitality. I liked the way the staff here looked, operated, and engaged. This place, with its unusual location and pedigree, is spotless, stylish, and delicious. This, I have determined after 4 of us sat at the bar for a couple of hours enjoying drinks (West Coast IPAs, Negroni, and a Yuba) and snacks (Fried Oyster Mushrooms, $12 and Chicken & Manchego Croquettes, $16). I'm a quick study. If you notice your surroundings you'll begin to understand that Brucato is the brand of amaro - an Italian herbal liqueuer - that they make on the ground floor (tours available). Many versions line the walls as well as some non-amaro spirits also being made here and it's likely your cocktail will feature one. I happened to notice Brucato when parking nearby and suggested it a couple of hours later when we were looking for a spot to grab a drink. None of us knew anything about it but, after witnessing a couple order up a flight and a meal, we all left saying we wanted to come back and do as they were: sample more. We all found Brucato very charming and appealing. Cocktails here run about $18-$22 (before a 5% surcharge on all tabs) which I put in the category of "ridiculously expensive" so it's saying something special when I express a desire to return. The cocktails were fun and although I'm not usually much of a liqueur person, the tasting flight was a really cool way to explore the amaro. This place was really cute. There's not much directly around it, so it was kind of mysterious to me for a while. The tour sounded really cool, but we ended up stopping by just for drinks one night. There was a very small, and full, upstairs dining room. We took a seat at the bar to watch the action there. We didn't eat, but the food looked good, though mostly fancy small plates. Two of us shared a flight which included their orchards, woodlands, chaparral, and a seasonal (which was delicious, but on its way out). The cocktail menu has a few twists on old favorites and some pretty creative ones. The bartender was knowledgeable and gave a lot of care to the drinks. I came to grab a drink while waiting for our dinner reservation at a restaurant nearby and we were blown away by the drinks here. We were able to grab a seat at the bar on the second floor right away and I got the tish tang o tang which was delicious! I loved the melon flavor which was fresh and light, perfect for someone who isn't a fan of spirit forward cocktails. My friend got the lambrusco, a sparkling red wine which is her go-to. I tried a sip and loved that this one was not too sweet and a bit more dry than the lambruscos I've tried before. Such a nice spot for drinks and I'll have to come back for food sometime! Got the bread and butter, chickpeas, fig salad, and gnocchi. Everything tasted so strange and slightly sour, I simply couldn't choke it down, with the exception of the bread. One of the worst meals I've had in memory, it was honestly quite shocking given the price point especially. Maybe the meat forward dishes are good? Off the bat I witnessed a loby with a table that seemed abandoned after a tasting, an elevator snd stairs that went up to the dining area. It's a cozy area with a nine seat bar and approximately eight tables. There's front section that seems dedicated to selling merch. The service was warm and on target throughout my dining experience. I had the superb house bread which is a steamy puffy masterpiece. The cacio a pepe butter is served like a swathe of beige paint the plate. The burrata was quite tasty but needing a knife to cut through it was not optimal. I had the flight of amaros and while they were all distinct and tasty my preference would for them to be chilled. Stopped by second week of open and had an amazing time! The home made bread and butter was incredible (baked to order), and the desserts were a standout as well. The amaro flight is a must try on your first visit to get a taste of each of their varieties. Cocktails were all fun too and some solid non alcoholic choices as well for non-drinkers. We ordered each of their entrees and they were all wonderful - the sardine pasta was our fave, and the lamb riblets, veggie gnochetti and hangar steak were all great. Only complaint was portions were kind of small and slightly underseasoned on the steak. Servers were extremely friendly. Only knock was we had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation time for our table as the previous table hadn't cleared up yet. We were a group of four so there wasn't really space at the bar and we kind of awkwardly stood around the intimate dining area. We weren't the only group that had to wait for their table, but the staff were very apologetic and explained that table booking times were based on 90 minute seating and are gonna correct that soon, so hopefully service flows better! We all agreed we'd definitely be back for after dinner drinks and dessert in the future, and to check out the distillery once it opens next month! Wish I could write a better review but. . . we tried four different meals on of the menu. The menu is very limited. Unfortunately didn't like any of them. There was a "fried mushroom" plate that tasted like fried dough - no mushroom flavor. We also had the 'salmon crudo" dish. It was mostly watermelon squares and very thin slices of salmon inserted into that. The serving was undersized and the salmon also didn't have flavor. Last of all, we ordered two of their hugely overpriced cocktails - one of them had an enomrous cube of ice and less than a shot of liquor. It was just too exotic and didn't taste good. I've been waiting for Brucato to open up, and it didn't disappoint! Housed in an upstairs nook of Brucato's distillery, the space has a sort of intimate neighborhood feel -- none of that warehouse-brutalist thing that you sometimes get in places attached to booze production facilities. Starting with the drinks: We had five or six between the two of us, and they all landed well. The tish tang o tang and the egg cream were favorites. While obviously Amaro is in everything, the menu had a lot of range. The food is mostly small plates and fancy bar snacks. Gribenes were excellent -- just the right level of crispiness and spicing to make fried chicken skins feel light. Sunchoke toast was solid, as was the kohlrabi salad and the corzetti. We tried almost everything in the menu, the standouts for us were the homemade warm out-of-the-oven bread with cacio e pepe butter, the amazingly delicious kohlrabi salad, the sunchoke, toast, the gribenes, and the pici con le sarde. We were going to try the hanger steak that we heard such good things about but we were pretty full by this time and so we decided to have some ice cream and sorbet instead. Yummy burnt honey, ice cream and delicious preserved Meyer lemon sorbet! We will go back to try the rest of the choices on the menu.
