Food was excellent and so was service. But I went home hungry. Quantity was no where near my appetite and they did not check if I wanted More. I ordered 3 course. The art of dining well. TL;DR: A storied old venue, for an elegantly delivered dining evening with impeccable service. Longer: This is a long-loved restaurant in the financial district, which is interestingly located "kitty corner" from STK, the nouveau-vision modern steak house with garish lighting and a DJ. The two different visions for dining excellence could not be farther apart. At Boulevard, a warm, ornate Belle Époque dining room with a glamorous Parisian brasserie feel elevates the atmosphere and harkens back to a time where we dressed for dinner. Hence, the dining room is replete with gentlemen in suits and sport coats - although no dress code is enforced. The mood is jovial and easy - and quietly elegant. Service is friendly, warm, professional - and very well informed. Beyond the typical "memorized rehearsal" of how selections are prepared, the top notes of primary seasonings, etc. are real intuition of how the options actually present to the palate. We were delighted with the easy warmth of our server and her command of every nuance of the menus we inquired about, as well as the subtleties of possible wine pairings. These days some servers we've found will have typical mental "flow charts" of "this red with this kind of meat" - but may leave you with the suspicion they've not actually experienced that syrah with that entree. Not so with our server this evening. Pacing was wonderful as well, and we found everyone who came to our table was friendly and warm. All of this sums up a wonderful evening with my lovely wife, and while this is not our first visit to Boulevard, it reinforces to us that some great restaurants endure, and are still committed to the art of the dining experience. read more

TLDR The perfect venue for a special night out on the town. Excellent Dining Experience, Impeccable Service with cozy seating and a filtered view out onto the Bay and Embarcadero. We came here for a very special occasion. The Prix Fixe menu covers most any taste whether it be meat, seafood or vegetarian. We especially loved the pork chop here. Whatever you order, each bite plays out like a symphony on your palate. We are annual "regulars" here lol! read more

Amazing service - the bar staff and the waiters were so friendly and chatty. The steak tartare was one of the better steak tartare dishes I've had in San Francisco and really enjoyed its texture and taste. The pork main was outstanding and would come back just for that. The restaurant itself has a beautiful interior design and loved the bar area. read more

9/10 food 7/10 service 9/10 ambiance Been here a few times previously to dine à la carte and get drinks at the bar, so this was our first time in the main dining room. Pictured are the lobster & corn soup and lobster pasta for starters, lamb and filet mignon for mains, and snickerdoodle and strawberry yuzu for dessert. LOVED the lobster coral sorpresine starter 10/10. Both mains were 10/10. The Anderson lamb chop's frenched haricot very were cooked perfectly and the side of Lebanese lamb dumplings added a Mediterranean flare. Filet was a perfect medium rare. Unfortunately the waitress either forgot our added order of deviled eggs or they forgot to make them so we brought it up after we already had our mains brought out to us. The timing made it a little odd for a cold appetizer and they tasted just alright. Overall our waitress wasn't very personable... we were celebrating something so it would've been an overall better experience perhaps if we had a different waiter/waitress. We thought the desserts were alright, preferred the strawberry and yuzu over the snickerdoodle tartlet. Overall we'd still recommend this place. The apps and mains were so so good and so were the drinks. read more

A beautiful remodel with ambience to match...our service was top notch and the menu did not disappoint. A prefix menu which allows for add ons, the wine list was wonderful and fairly priced in comparison to other restaurants of this caliber. A definite to try and perfect for a special occasion. read more

We came for my daughter's birthday along with Mother's Day celebration. Their space is always comfortable for conversation and classic atmosphere. The service was on point but I had better service at their bar and front causal seating. Reservation is definitely recommended. As we were seating in the dining area, we had their full course meal. The food was excellent and the dessert is always delicious. Only down one star because we felt the service at the dining table were not as good as the front bar. read more

The decor was gorgeous and the service was very welcoming, accommodating, and paid attention to detail. I had the hamachi crudo, steak and creme brûlée cheesecake. Everything was amazing! A few notes: they don't do to go orders and it is only a prix fixe menu with choosing appetizer, entree and dessert. read more

It's an old school upscale restaurant. Beautifully decorated with old architecture and revolving doors. It reminds me of how San Francisco was decades ago. It seems like a place to see and be seen. Most of the patrons dressed up and the staff wore formal attire. They have impeccable service and the wait staff is very experienced. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Very romantic ambience. The bread they bring to the table is incredible, I'd recommend the sesame one if I had to choose. The soft shell crab was beautifully plated and perfectly cooked/seasoned. I usually don't like pork chop.. but it came highly recommended and boy did it not disappoint! The lemon cake and chocolate dessert tasted as wonderful as they looked! read more

We enjoyed our anniversary dinner here the other night. They made it special with a few nice touches. I love the ambiance & decor!!! This place is so romantic & Art nouveau; very unique. I appreciated the service it was attentive & fast. All the food was good, it was super yummy, seasoned/seasonal. It came at the right pace & all. I felt the portions were small for the price point but I guess thats to be expected for a fine dining place. I left still a bit hungry but loved all the food we ate. read more

On a recent celebration of my birthday "week" I wanted to go to one of San Francisco's longstanding favorites "Boulevard." I had been once before, but admittedly when I was a kid. Cursory searches listed it as still one of the best in San Francisco, so I decided to book their bar area as I didn't want the prix fix menu. We started with caviar, which was predictably caviar, and the presentation was outstanding, however everything was disappointing. We ordered some small plates, all to share, I had high hopes for the lobster coral sorpresine but the pasta was like rubber. Aside from the caviar, everything tasted like it was produced rather lazily. The restaurant atmosphere is what you would expect for an upscale San Francisco restaurant, it's large, sort of dark, with a classic décor. Service was decent, our waiter was attentive and friendly. Overall, I was sad because I had such high hopes, I probably would never go back, and frankly do not understand why this restaurant is still rated so highly. I will also add that while I was fine, my two dining companions had stomach issues after the meal - not sure if it was just because some of the food was too rich, or something else. read more

The food is excellent. Not overpowering just right. Portions are fine dining portions but everything is balanced. Pick one each starter, main and dessert. Mushroom ravioli, cheese plate and lamb were my choices and they were all gray. Recommend boulevardier if you are into whiskey. Service is great and felt like a different person brought each dish. Place is crammed so better get a seat towards the back near the windows. read more

We came here early for Father's Day celebration and a college graduation. Our waiter is very knowledgeable and conversational. The environment is dark, and intimat. We are a party of 5 and deliberately ordered different starters, mains and dessert for the prix fix menu. This is how we rate our orders: Starters: - Soft shell crab (7.5/10) - Cherry salad (8.5/10) - Prawns (8/10) - Risotto (8.5/10) - Steak tartare (8/10) I forgot the name but the whipped butter taster was a 10/10, make sure to dig to the bottom for the balsamic glaze! Mains: - Truffle gnocchi (6/10) - Lamb (9/10) - Scallops (8/10) - Pork chop (7.5/10) - Steak (6/10) Dessert: - Red fruits and summer melon (7/10) - Cafe affogato (10/10) - Brown butter pistachio cake (8/10) - Peaches & cream (9/10) - Vanilla brûlée cheesecake (8/10) They also brought a plate of sesame cookies at the end which was lovely Overall our experience was very pleasant, and we were able to celebrate happily. read more

Good: Location. Service. Mid: Food Bad: Noise level My main problem with this was first the food and next the noise. The food was good, but also boring at the same time. For this price point the food should have been better. I tried almost all the menu and very little made me excited or want more. It was all good... but not interesting or really great. The thing that really killed it though was the noise. For a restaurant clearly designed for a nice dinner, we could not hear each other and we were just across the table. Either you yelled or just spoke to the person next to you, but across the table was too loud. The tables are packed in and it is too loud. read more

I've been here a few times and it's always fun. You step on and it's maximally decorated with mosaic tiles and cool lighting with velvet trim. Food and drinks are always exciting-- balancing new and innovative with traditional. Yesterday we had a thyme and lime (?) cocktail, fabulous and refreshing. We shared beef tartare which is love and that was pretty good-- the waffle fries were fragrant but a little soggy and too oily. I had the seared scallops and they did that very well! So buttery, one sided fry. Sweet. My friend had the pork chop and it was okay. Satisfying but I don't personally like pork chop. Service is excellence per usual! read more

Food, service, and ambience were all excellent! We were a party of five and we celebrated a birthday at Boulevard last night and everything was perfect. We started with steak tartare, soft shell crab, and SPOT PRAWNS, LOBSTER MUSHROOM & SWEET CORN SOUP. Our entrees were northern halibut, sea scallops, sweet water pork chop, and Anderson lamb chop. Desserts were cornmeal buttermilk tres leches, peaches & cream, and dark chocolate silk tart. All were delectable and heavenly. Desiree was personable and took care of us well. Bread and water refill came out quickly. Highly recommended to visit Boulevard SF! Parking was also validated at Rincon Garage. read more

We stayed across the street from this spot and after reading fantastic reviews, I looked forward to stopping in to see the holiday decor and hit the bar for a pre-dinner drink. We did not have dinner reservations here but at another spot so I thought stopping in during the week for a drink could be fun. When walking in, I came up to the host stand to inquire about how the bar worked- first come first serve, or did I need a reservation? The hostess was condescending (yet with a smile), telling me the bar was first come first serve but unless we found a seat, we could not just stand there. I totally understand this concept- its a small, busy bar and we cannot be underfoot the waiters or the drink runners. However there was a large part of people who were standing around drinking and chatting without issue. When I asked if she thought it would be worth waiting a few minutes and perhaps a spot would open up, she said no, don't bother- there won't be a spot anytime soon. I found it really weird that they just openly want you to walk out. I thought I was doing the right thing by asking the staff the "correct" way to do things in their establishment. Regardless, I went up to the bar and found one seat (which turned into 2 open seats one another guest left). Bar staff was friendly but rushed and it took a bit to order drinks. I ordered a dirty martini but got a regular one- wasn't worth it to correct but it was quite tasty. The old fashion was nice as well but nothing special (Hotel one's was better). Once they got a second to breath, bartenders were very personable. I asked them if they knew where they got some of their gorgeous globe decorations and they told me to ask the hostess. When I went back up there as we were leaving, the hostess literally looked me in the face (while holding her laptop) and walked away, seconds after the bartender told me they spoke with her. Not worth me waiting, I left. Cant speak on the food, the bartenders were busy but nice (attention to detail a bit off), and the space is beautiful. Not sure if the hostess was having a bad day or what but did not feel like a welcoming spot. read more

Boulevard has been a San Francisco staple for decades, and for good reason. The food, service and atmosphere are truly second to none. I've been coming to Boulevard since 1997, and every experience has been exceptional. I especially love the Ken Fulk touches from their remodel a few years back, the space now feels even more warmer, inviting, and effortlessly bustling. The staff is consistently kind and hospitable. While I'm a bit bummed that some of my longtime favorite bartenders have moved on, the new team has been fantastic. I find myself enjoying Boulevard even more in the fall during white truffle season as their truffle pastas are wonderful and during the holidays, when the restaurant feels especially festive. If you're in San Francisco, a visit to Boulevard is a must. It remains a true institution and a reminder of what great dining in this city is all about. read more

I usually only post reviews for small businesses because I like to spread the good word and support them. Even though I eat out often in well known, nice SF restaurants, I seldom if ever review them because I figure another 5-star review isn't going to make much difference to them. But oh my goodness, I'm making an exception for Boulevard. As background, a dear colleague and friend and I used to treat ourselves at Boulevard regularly. But first Covid hit, then he moved cross-country, and I only went occasionally for special occasions. But then my friend came back for a visit last week, and of course the first thing he wanted to do was go back to Boulevard. Haha, twist my arm! If you want to feel special; and you're craving incredible food; an amazing wine list; superlative service; want to feel spoiled; and of course if you like gorgeous decor and soft, warm lighting, Boulevard is for you. Previously, the last time I had been was in October, when I took some friends for a birthday. If you like caviar, order it because it's the most beautiful presentation you can imagine, served in a huuuuge seashell with the condiments in tiny silver octopus bowls. Seriously mind-blowing in its opulence and deliciousness! But back to last week's dinner: As impressive as Boulevard has always been, last week exceeded all expectations. Everything was perfect -- our favorite table; an amazing waiter (Eddie) who could not have been more attentive, nice, and fun; and of course the most sumptuous food imaginable. Every course, a delight! I love seeing our beloved city on the upswing. And with new restaurants opening every day, it's tempting to try the new-new thing. But if you want perfection, Boulevard is the best of the best and will always hold a special place in my heart -- it's truly a San Francisco treasure. read more

Boulevard - Caviar service -- WOW! - New American Near Me - San Francisco, California

One of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. This is a classic fine restaurant that has traditional (in a good sense) old San Francisco look and service. Great delicious food and pretty expensive. It gets crowded and loud on the weekends, so if you are with a bigger group, it's hard to hear each other. Other than that it's always a great experience to visit this restaurant. read more

So vibey hereeee!! This is mainly for their bar review as we didn't come here for a meal. Interior is AMAZING. So vibey and romantic. I'd love to come eat here some time. The service seemed impeccable. Now for the bar, my partner and I had missed our ferry so we found this seemingly intimidating restaurant but with a desperate desire to grab a drink, we decided to check it out and were pleasantly surprised by the ambient bar seating area! As for cocktails I ordered the Thyme cocktail (forgot the name) and it was good, but nothing worth noting imo. I will say, though, my partner really enjoyed his old fashion here so that was definitely a highlight. I think next time I'd probably order wine as it seemed more fitting of the scenery. Overall I just really enjoyed my time here! read more

A true San Francisco classic located by the beautiful Embarcadero. Boulevard offers a prix fixe menu serving some of the most delicious foods I've ever had. The interior is luxurious with mood lighting, peacocks, glitz and glamour. The staff offers top tier service. Everyone is so welcoming, attentive, and accommodating. The $125 per person prix fixe menu includes a starter, main, and dessert. They offer a selection of complementary bread, amuse-bouche, and post-dessert thumbprint cookies as well. Portions were generous. Everyone at the table enjoyed every bite from beginning to end. I highly recommend everyone come dine at Boulevard. It's a meal you won't forget! read more

Dim lighting and a cozy, romantic vibe -- perfect for date night! The space is surprisingly large, but it's always buzzing with people. Since our reservation was last-minute, we ended up at a smaller table, which was totally fine but worth noting. The menu leans on the heavier side for me, but my meat-loving date was in heaven -- he said everything was delicious. Definitely a spot that feels high-end without being stuffy. Magical, inviting, always a surprise of delicious well-thought out ingredients. Chef's kiss. Love always looking over the menu, because they change it up. (All shared plates) Started with the Kung Pow Bao Buns and a cocktail. Second course, blue crab stuffed ravioli. Third course, filet w crispy potato stuffed medallion. (The filet was loved to death, with so much butter constantly, that the outside of it was so crispy, perfection!) 4th course (desert), chocolate ice cream chocolate cake w pillows of fresh cream and crunchy toffee We share our plates, because the flavors and quality is so beyond anything, it's fun to taste together. Eating at Boulevard was one of the best food experiences of my life. Every course landed--I ate well past being full because it felt wrong to leave anything on the table. Each dish had its own identity. Nothing disappointed, and nothing was merely "good." They pitched a perfect game. I've had other fine-dining meals that were solid, but when you're paying an arm and a leg for a three- or five-course menu, you want every plate to hit--and this one did. The only real downside is the price. It's fine dining, so I wasn't shocked by the total--I knew what I was signing up for. Still, it's hard not to feel a little sad that experiences like this are largely reserved for an upper-class slice of life, with the occasional middle or lower-middle class person showing up for something like an anniversary. That was me. And honestly? It was worth it. I'd rather save up for a meal at Boulevard than spend that same money on a 49ers game or a trip to Disney World. read more

Boulevard is the type of restaurant that belongs on every "must-dine" list -- the kind you enthusiastically recommend to friends and family looking for an exceptional San Francisco dining experience, especially for a special occasion. My husband and I dined at Boulevard a few weeks ago, and I'm still thinking about it. The ambiance is a perfect blend of elegance, warmth, and whimsy. The seasonal décor -- including fall snow globes and softly lit pumpkins -- added a special touch. We dined in the main dining room where it is prix-fixe menu only. It features three beautifully composed courses. Each course was somehow better than the last. Our server was gracious, attentive, and happy to answer all of our questions. Boulevard is a truly remarkable establishment where ambiance, cuisine, and service come together seamlessly -- the very definition of what makes a restaurant unforgettable. read more

Boulevard had been on my radar for a while, so I was excited to finally try it out. All in all, I'd say it's a gorgeous restaurant with diverse and yummy bites that's great for a fancier dinner! Emphasis on fancier, do be ready to spend a bit more :) I and a couple of coworkers ordered a ton of dishes. I did not get any photos because we dove straight in, but let me drop the highlights: AHI TARTARE ($26): one of my coworkers said this was the best thing she's had. While I wouldn't go that far, it was certainly delicious. The sourdough scallion focaccia was gorgeous and the fish was well-seasoned. Now, I definitely wish it was a larger portion for the price. That is a consistent point of feedback across dishes. Basically, you just have to accept that it's just that type of place. KUNG PAO BAO ($10): really yummy bao, would definitely recommend this! I loved the bao's slightly misshapen form. It gave the dish a homey charm. The filling was generous and delicious, and the bun was fluffy. And I think the portion size was actually commensurate with the price here! POPCORN SPOT PRAWN PANCAKE ($26): the squash blossom in the pancake surprised me, but overall, this was an interesting and yummy combo. CAULIFLOWER SOUFFLE ($14): weird, small, but fun. I think if you're curious to try a savory, eggy, somewhat cheesy, somewhat cauliflower-y, really mini souffle, then get it. Not for everyone, but I thought it was funky and fun. FRIED GREEN TOMATO, ESCARGOTS & CHORIZO ($18): another interesting choice! It's hard to put it into words, like you've got these meaty, savory escargots, and this fresh-fried, hollowed-out green tomato, and then these sauces, and this tiny, peeled, green tomato... It was good, but, again, not for everyone. If that interests you, get it! HIRAMASA CRUDO ($23): way too small for the price. It was pretty and it was pretty good, but at $23, I would spend the extra $3 to get the Ahi Tartare and just have a more dynamic experience with better value. BERKSHIRE PORK CHOP ($58): this is their specialty, and it was really yummy. But I do have to say, the price is really running away from the portion size on this one. Like, dang. Don't get me wrong, it was good. Pork chop cooked really well. Potatoes gorgeous. Cauliflower and romanesco were really nice too. Just know that you're not getting a whole chop at a whole chop price. PISTACHIO CRUMBLE CAKE & DOUBLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIE: had to try these lovely sounding desserts and they did not disappoint. Perfect size for a little sweet treat to end the meal, lovely combos, and nice textures. Overall, Boulevard is what you'd expect from a fancy restaurant in terms of value, but they are definitely doing it up in terms of interesting combos. Service is kind and efficient. They add some extra zhuzh with the ambiance: beautiful and elegant interior, and if you sit at the bar, you can see the cooks hard at work at their craft. For me, the ambiance is the star of the show at this restaurant. There are so many beautiful textures, materials and colors with the peacocks, stained glass, lighting touches and a brick ceiling!! There is an insane amount of character with the revolving door enclosed in this absolutely beautiful wood frame with a velvet curtain to surround. The floor is tiled and carpeted with a massive statue in the middle of the restaurant. It was truly a place I loved to look at and watch. The service was also dressed very nicely with management in three piece suits and servers in crisp collared shirts and hosts in jackets with makeup done. It was just lovely for my eyes. The food itself was of course, not bad. I think we just weren't blown away given the history, reputation, etc.. Got the pork chop and seafood one with the mousse. Both were well prepared and were as advertised, we just didnt want to lick our plates like we have at some other restaurants.
