This place is absolutely delicious! It definitely gives grandma home made dumpling vibes. You can see someone making dumplings while you're eating which confirmed what you're eating is all hand made. The chives pancake/pocket is something I've never had before and I would definitely recommend it. it's different than the classic cong you bing you're probably used to. The pocket skin was nice, airy and light and the filling was very chive forward. All the dumplings were delicious and although I would have preferred the pig ear more spicy (you can always add more chili oil yourself) I thought the pig ear was nicely cut into thin even strips. Definitely coming back again!
Not a hidden gem anymore, but Fuwa Dumpling is worth the trek to Outer Richmond. Everything tastes very clean and the dumpling skins are nice and thin. Highly recommend the chive, egg, prawn, and pork dumplings- you honestly can't go wrong with either fried or boiled. I'm also a big fan of the dried bean curd salad, which I haven't been able to find very often at dumpling restaurants in the city! It can get busy around meal times, but our server was very kind and still took her time with us.
Excellent Dumplings, Friendly Service in the quiet Richmond District. Given the unassuming exterior and no-frills decor, to me, this is one of those casual eateries that we somehow sometimes either walk right by, or take for granted as a neighborhood staple, but I gotta say I loved the dumplings here whether they be steamed or pan-fried. For our first time here, we chose the following: #22 - Steamed Dumplings with Pork & Napa Cabbage filling. We really enjoyed the al-dente texture of the skin (moderate thickness) and the fresh juicy filling inside. YUM.. Perfectly seasoned and totally on point and then some. I could see ordering seconds on this. #36 - Pan Fried Dumplings with Chicken & Corn filling - simliar to the steamed dumplings, but pan fried with golden brown crust on one side. Served HOT, Pretty darn good too. Loved the gentle crunch of the skin as you bite down on it to release just a bit of juice inside. That said the #10 - Wood Ear Mushroom Salad was a bit disappointing since they still retained water from the prep. Very fresh and crisp otherwise. 2.4/5 All in all, we loved the dumplings here, and would not hesitate to return to try out the pot stickers and chive pancake next time. They looked good too!
I stopped in for a quick lunch before going to a movie at the Balboa Theater and my group of 3 was able to get seated right away on a Sunday around noon. We ordered a few items to share: - Spicy thinly sliced pig ear: the pig ear was the perfect texture, and it was flavorful but wasn't spicy at all. The Chinese name has red oil in it, but my plate didn't have any chili oil residue on it (maybe they forgot?). - Chives pancake: I liked how thin this was, though the English name is a bit misleading. It's more like a chives pocket, rather than a pancake like a scallion pancake. The pancake was pan fried golden but not super crispy. - Boiled Napa cabbage and pork dumplings: these were pretty good but nothing to write home about. I wish the skin had a bit more QQ texture. - Pork xiao long bao: I'm very picky about my xlb and unfortunately this one wasn't it for me. I wish the soup was more flavorful, and the skin was thick but somehow still broke apart too easily. Service was fine - they were quick to serve food and otherwise left us alone unless we flagged them down (just the way I like it). I know dumplings are their specialty, but I ended up liking their appetizers better. It's cool that they sell their own frozen dumplings though, for those who like them. Overall, it was good value for the amount of food we got, but flavor-wise it wasn't super impressive to me and I would stick to my usual dumpling spots.
Service was great. As soon as we entered we were greeted and given a table. The place is very clean and has a cute decor. The dumplings are made in house, I could see the ladies forming them behind the counter. Food came quickly. We had the wonton soup, the chive pancakes, and the chive n shrimp n pork dumplings. Everything was delicious!!! Chive pancakes were perfectly crispy and refreshing. The dumplings had a little broth in them and were packed with a nice amount of filling. The wonton broth was light and tasty. I had jasmine tea with my meal. The three of us split the dishes and were full after our meal. I would come again for the same meal and to try the beef soup.

I chose the pork and corn dumplings, and the pork had a amazing flavor with almost a ginger aftertaste.. I frequent this area for boba (purple kow naming) nestled around the sunset district, closer to ocean beach. I wanted to give this place a try since it looked like a super clean hole in the wall and boy that it was! Quick, easy sit down service with your typical hot tea (oolong is served here) so you know you're in for a delicious dumpling delight :) no frills nor out of the ordinary service from your typical dumpling spot Not pictured however but pan fried corn & chicken dumplings were divine! Mouthwatering goodness in every bite with the sweetness from the corn and the soft mellow beef! Star of the show: Special beef brisket noodle soup! You can tell that they steep their broth for hours with its deep deep umami-hearty flavors. MUST GET!!!

Corn & Chicken Dumpling (Pan Fried / 12 pieces) - $14.99 Rating: (5/10) These were disappointing. When I think of pan-fried dumplings, I expect something closer to gyoza-style. While they were crispy, it seemed like oil was sprayed on and they were finished in an air fryer, which doesn't really qualify as "pan-fried" to me Dried Bean Curd Salad - $9.99 Rating: (4/10) This dish was an absolute miss. It tasted like an unclean chopping board. Overall, I'd probably skip dining in next time and just pick up their frozen dumplings, they sell them for $13.99 for 15 pieces.

All the dumplings are made fresh; the xiao long baos are juicy and steamy hot. The beef noodle soup makes you crave more on a cold Winter's night. Great northern style Chinese food here. They specialize in dumplings and cold appetizer dishes. Pork Xiao long bao: B+ Cabbage and pork pan fried dumplings: B- Beef noodle soup: B+ Bean curd stick cucumber salad: A- Sliced marinated beef: A- Fried crab cheese puff: A Fried chicken wings: A- Quality of all the food is very good. I'd recommend the soup dumplings, fried chicken wings, beef noodle soup and crab cheese puffs. Good service, very responsive.
New favorite dumpling spot in SF! Everything we tried was SO GOOD. We got beef noodle soup with rice noodles, which was incredibly flavorful and had two different cuts of tender beef. Normally I'm not a huge soup person but this was soo delicious and I couldn't stop eating it. Would 100% order again! We tried two types of dumplings (one pan fried and one boiled) and both were amazing. Good filling to skin ratio, and the pan fried ones had great flavor from the oil. The fillings were also unique and both yummy in their own way. The beef pancake was great (4 is a lot) but probably wouldn't order again (I'd try the chive one next time). The chicken wings were the only thing that I thought were just ok (the five spice seasoning was too strong for me) but my boyfriend loved them. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu!! Service was also great and very quick. They are friendly and efficient. There was also tons of seating when we came for a late night dinner on a Saturday.
Such a little gem in the neighborhood. Sure, lots of places have XLB but you can taste the love and quality in each bite. Our favorite dumplings were the boiled pork and cabbage and the beef and onion. The wrappers you can tell are homemade and just the right thickness that envelop little juicy flavorful nuggets of meat filling. It's a treat and very filling. Can't wait to come and try the noodle soups which I saw a bunch of tables order. They must be in the know! In short - don't pass up this unassuming spot. If you have a craving for dumplings, it hits the spot. The service is also really sweet.
INCREDIBLE! quality food that is simple but executed cleanly and with lots of flavor. Each dish didn't seem overly oily and I definitely would come back. We got the Salt and Pepper chicken wings which were perfectly cooked and fried. We got the dried tofu salad, which was so so good and fried dumplings, which were fried but also still had a little bit of soup inside. Ambience is casual and service is fast. pretty popping restaurant in the outer sunset! very casual and homely, and prices are reasonable. they hand make all the wrappers and I loved the texture. however I thought they weren't wrapped tightly enough. the fillings were juicy and flavorful though! the beef noodle soup was comforting but it was a pretty simple broth that didn't have that much complex depth. the beef pancake was kind of dry. overall a solid place for sharing dumplings! read more

My first time to this dumping restaurant. I was impressed that that hand made all the dumplings on site . You can watch them through a window and there are to go boxes of dumplings for sale . We bought two boxes of shrimp , chive and egg dumplings. You can order the dumplings in soup ( my favorite) , pan fry dumplings or steamed dumplings and eat in dipping sauce . We tried a few dumplings ( mushrooms chicken , beef , shrimps in chives with egg ) . They all tasted excellent! We ordered the beef pancake ( round shape pan fried ) that was a disappointment. The wrapping was too thick and inside beef is small amounts and it was dried when we ate it no sauce coming out . I have had better beef pancake from other restaurants. They pan fried the pancakes bottom to crispy and tastes good. Would like to come back again to try more flavors of dumplings. read more
Like the beef noodle soup and the pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings. The dumplings were the specialty, and was very moist on the inside. The outer shell wasn't too doughy and was pan fried only on one side, but that crunch on the other was a great touch. The XLB were dim sum style in the little silver foils, still good, but the dumplings were the best. read more

Yummy Chinese food! Came here after celebrating Lunar New Year and there was a line out the door but it moved fairly quickly. Service was attentive and food was yummy. Everything we ordered was great. We were a group of 5 and all of us loved it. I appreciate that they had a few vegetarian dumpling options! Would recommend read more
Very much wanted to love this place, but I found a few things to nitpick about. 1. I just can't get over how they use those little foil cups for the XLB. The XLBs tend to get stuck and rip apart - well they did so that was a bummer. 2. I did enjoy the pot stickers though. They were very well made.. and the level of frying was pretty uniform too. I personally prefer a bit more panfried though. 3. This was one of the cheapest beef noodles soup I found. Portion size was good too. The noodles was a bit too soft for me though. Overall, this was still a good dining experience. The staff was nice and food came quick. I'm giving this a solid 4* despite my nitpicking above . read more

Yum. Came on a Friday evening with a party of 6, and they accommodated us by pushing 2 tables together with no wait. We ordered the beef noodle soup, pork dumplings, pig ears, and more. All of them were so good, especially the beef noodle soup in my opinion. Service was nice and attentive. You also get to see them hand making the dumplings in the back. A decent dumpling option! Went here because we were in the area and not sure what to get for dinner. Dumplings are all good, but there's no shortage of that in San Francisco. I think they're known for their boil dumplings, so we didn't get, we got the same dumplings pan seared and the flavour was good, but not incredible. The highlight was the beef pancake, a crispy outer shell which was filled with a soft beef mixture. That had a great balance of textures and really let the flavour of the wrapper shine through. A nice neighborhood option, but I likely won't eat here again if I'm coming from another part of the city. read more

What a lovely, humble little spot. 4 of us showed up around 730pm Saturday 10/4 after hardly strictly and there was already a line out the door. We were lucky and got sat in about 35 mins, the owner and staff did a great job dealing with the crowd of hungry folks that all really wanted to eat! This place must be mom and pop which made the vibes really great. We ordered a lot of food and although they may not have the variety of types of dumplings as some of the more well known spots, the quality was incredible. You could tell they were all thoughtfully made by hand. The beef noodle soup to start was sooooo good! And whatever they do to the cucumber was amazing. Food was fast, service prompt, hot tea was delish. An excellent choice if you're in outer Richmond. We also took 5 boxes of frozen dumplings home!!!! Buy 4 get 1 free :) read more

I made a reservation for four at 12:30 pm today. Jessica, the owner, showed me where our reserved table was. I used the bathroom first & it was clean. My husband did not make it so it was my friends & neighbors (husband & wife), showed up. It was their first time dining at Fuwa Dumpling. I am a returned customer. The dining room was almost full on a Sunday. Jessica came to our table & I introduced my friends. I told my friends that they make their own dumpling that was why it was fresh. We had green tea drink first. After my recommendation from the menu, I had my friend ordered. From the appetizer, we had the Chives Pancake & cold dish the Cucumber Salad. We had the boiled dumpling namely Napa Cabbage & Pork Dumpling, Mushroom & Chicken Dumpling, Pork Xiao Long Bao & Pan Fried Corn & Chicken Dumpling. They liked the taste of the cucumber salad. It was something different. My friends & I enjoyed the freshness of the dumplings. They told Jessica that they will return with their kids. I always like the cozy, casual atmosphere, and the friendly & attentive service of Fuwa Dumpling. It's nice to support small food businesses like Fuwa Dumpling. read more

4.5 Yelp Stars*** Stopped by here for lunch with my family today! Right when we got inside around noon, it was quite empty and quiet. Within 20mins, it was full house (so crazy!). Guess we got lucky to secure a table right away. The service here was excellent! The waitress noticed my husband and I strolling our babies in and seated us at the corner so we had more space to put our double stroller. She even pulled down the blinds for our comfort since it was very sunny. Then, she grabbed a high chair for our toddler and came back to us a few minutes later to see if we wanted to order a drink first as we settled down to look at the menu. Very attentive and quick! Since my husband was craving dumplings, we ordered the boiled mushroom and fish dumplings, napa cabbage and pork dumplings, xiao loong bao, and two cold dishes: one potato salad and the other dried bean curd salad. All the items were very light but in a good way! The boiled dumplings were quite tasty! I preferred the napa cabbage and pork one over the mushroom and fish one because it had more flavor and sweetness in the broth. However, both were very settling on the stomach and body, especially on a cold day! The dumpling skin was so fresh, better than most dumpling spots in the city! Tasted like they just wrapped it! Our two year old toddler literally half a full plate of the 14 pieces of dumplings by himself in two settings. He loved them! We were surprised at how much he ate because he became very picky with dumplings lately. The xiao loong bao was only okay in comparison to other dumpling spots. It definitely needed more flavor in my opinion but still good. They did not serve it very hot but warm compared to other dumpling restaurants, so I was able to pop the dumpling in my mouth without biting a hole on top for the soup. Both cold dishes were very enjoyable! Their potato salad dish had a nice tangy and spicy kick but our favorite spot for that would be at Tasty Place in Millbrae. Their dried bean curd salad comes with cucumber, carrots, and what tasted like sesame oil with a bit of vinegar. It was quite refreshing! Prices for dumplings were not cheap, but they gave much more in quantity compared to other dumpling restaurants. In addition, they also made their dough fresh and there was a window stand for customers to watch. That was delightful! Overall, great place that I would recommend. Would be coming back next time to order frozen dumplings next time after seeing how much my toddler loved them! read more

Another great dumpling place in the neighborhood. Pork XLB: nice thin skin, pork a bit soft though. Chives pancake: quite like this version with a thinner skin than usual. Bean curd stick salad with cucumber: very surprising, very flavorful. Spicy thinly sliced pig ear: not spicy enough. Fried wonton: seems like fried XLB, but a bit too oily. read more

My friends and I were so impressed with Fuwa Dumpling! Service was fairly quick and the space was really well decorated and clean. Recs: Boiled Dumplings, Chicken Wings Price: ~$20/person - Chicken and Corn Dumplings: So sizeable with the perfect texture. Tasted incredible with chili oil and soy sauce. - Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings: Came out piping hot, super moist on the inside and well-seasoned and crispy on the outside. A bit pricey for the size but honestly cooked to perfection. - Beef Noodle Soup: A huge bowl for what we paid! Noodles had the perfect texture, and while the soup was just a little more on the salty side, we cleared the entire thing. LOL the fact that I only have one photo after this meal is proof of how hungry I was and how good the dishes were. I could see myself coming back here to get a boiled dumpling spread. This place really deserves its good rating! read more

Came here on a rainy day, its perfect time for some family style soothing food. The restaurant is clean and bright, Chinese traditional style. I ordered dumplings, beef noodle soups and chicken wings etc. the chicken wings are my favorite because they are very flavorful and crispy; probably the most crispy chicken wings I ever had. The dumplings are big and it tastes like homemade dumplings. It's perfect for a rainy day. The beef pancakes are filled with sauce, i like it as well! Overall, i recommend this place!! read more

Decided to give this place a try as I was craving dumplings. Came here around 2pm and there was no wait. Plenty of street parking as well (without toll). We ordered: 1. Pork XLB: Lots of soup inside. Wasn't the best XLB I've had in SF but still above avg. 2. Pan fried Onion and Beef dumplings: Perfectly cooked with the nice crunch on the outside and nicely flavored. I can see them hand making it behind the glass which was a nice bonus. 3. Pan Fried Corn & Chicken Dumpling: I liked these better than the beef dumplings because of the corn textured crunch with it. Again, i didn't feel like any of these dumplings blew my mind but I did like that they're hand made and fresh. 4. House Beef noodle soup: This is the saving dish of the entire day. Although they're called fuwa Dumpling, I think the beef noodle soup is the best item on the menu. So much flavor and the beef is so soft and delicious. It reminds me a lot Kau Kee in Hong Kong which is the famous beef noodle soup place there. 5. Sliced beef: I thought this was just okay. The beef was a bit dry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, solid choice if you're looking for dumplings. Great service and a huge variety of items of different dumplings. I wasn't blown away by the dumplings here but I really recommend the Beef Noodle Soup. read more

The pork and napa cabbage dumplings were flavorful with a good chew. However, the beef noodle soup was a miss. The beef tasted tough, the noodles were limp, and the broth was very bland. The cucumber salad was also under-seasoned. I would only order their dumplings read more
