Awesome experience overall. I left feeling full and really satisfied with the price, especially considering how many different dishes we got to try. Each dish came in just the right quantity, and it felt like there was a lot of thought put into every dish. Honestly, everything was delicious and worked really well together as a whole. The Hokkaido scallop was probably the best scallop I've ever had. It was a huge scallop that was lightly seared on the outside while still being raw inside, and the natural sweetness was incredible. The cabbage was another standout for me. It was perfectly crunchy with a great balance of savory and sweet flavors. The flavors throughout the meal definitely leaned more on the sweeter side, like the coconut curry with the scallop, the prawn salad dressing, and the cabbage sauce, but everything was really well balanced. I also really liked the guava sorbet. It was a perfect way to end the meal and paired nicely with the more burnt flavors of the other dessert. The presentation was really unique too, with all the plates and bowls having interesting shapes. The soup bowl especially looked like a giant clam shell, although it was pretty funny and slightly difficult to actually drink the soup out of. Definitely recommend. read more

really cute spot right in the heart of Japantown. everything that was served was delicious. drinks were refreshing and well made. the apple honey smokey rice was just strong enough with a satisfying sweet aftertaste. the lemongrass pandan was well balanced, the pandan was not overpowering, and very light. the highlights of the meal were the crispy rice in the fermented beef salad, the crab legs in the curry sauce, and the fermented apple in the duck leg Khao Soi. the one thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the red onion in the cheesecake dessert: it combined well but was not my preference for a sweet item. one hiccup is that although our reservation was set for a la carte, they assumed we were doing a tasting menu, and thus we waited for an extended period of time before we were served at all. waiters also assumed that my brother and i were partners, despite me listing in the reservation that we were celebrating his birthday, which is an awkward and offensive assumption to make. 7.5/10 read more

They explained each dish in detail as they brought it out. I did let them know in advance that I can't have dairy. But I don't think they were prepared because they brought me the mango dessert with no topping because of condensed milk... it was rock hard so I couldn't eat it. The vibes were really calming and quiet. Cute place for date night and you want to have conversations. They have multiple course menu. Some dishes were spicer than expected, but flavorful as well. I think certain dishes were salty. I really liked the concept and uniqueness of each dish and really enjoyed the strong lemongrass flavors. I really enjoyed all the cocktails we ordered. My fiancé made a reservation for the course menu for my birthday. Overall it was a lovely dinner. The ambiance was very nice and perfect for date nights, there were many couples. The food tasted good, a little too salty for our preferences but still super tasty. I absolutely love thai food. Personally, I felt the this menu was a bit lacking. Thai food has so many dishes beyond just curry or tom yum, that highlight the variety of complex flavors, techniques and ingredients in thai cuisine. But I think this is a good rendition of classics for the average person. The thai cheesecake was a nice surprise, not of fan of the garnish which I believe is candied fried shallots. The taste paired with the texture of the cheesecake makes the experience feel like you ate a block of cream cheese that went bad in the fridge. Overall, we really enjoyed the food but my daughter's ribeye was served flavorless and well done... which would have been fine except the table next to us got the same dish and it was cooked to a more reasonable medium rare. The pork set was delicious - each dish was flavorful and interesting, the flavors very much complemented each other. The braised pork ribs were very tender and served in a flavorful Thai broth. It was good enough to where I poured it on my rice when I'd finished the meat. The trio of rice was unique and delicious - each one uniquely textured and flavored. The pork jowl was my favorite - just enough chew to have a pleasant texture in a flavorful sauce with fresh herbs. Yum. The cheesecake was tasty, the passion fruit puree was intense and tasty. However the fried shallots were a little odd - with the passion fruit they were balanced but the shallot flavor kind of lingered after the meal. 30 mins later I could still taste them. The service was pretty good except our waitress put the menu on top of the chopsticks, the part where you put it in your mouth, so that was kind of gross. The orders came out pretty quick. I ordered the Beef Set while my friends ordered the Pork Set and the Duck Set (from the Holiday menu $49), and a Thai Tea ($7). First we all had the Grilled Hokkaido Scallop with Thai rice noodle and coconut curry as our starter. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The scallop was soft. The curry was a nice addition to the dish. It made things interesting. Next, our set meals arrived. The Beef Set consisted of: Angus beef steak with spicy mango salad - Good. Nothing to complain about. The decor and plating is all very beautiful, and this spot is tucked in an unassuming hotel in Japantown. We got the seafood and pork lunch sets, and everything was super flavorful, tender, and unique. I've been to their sister restaurant Her Very Thai many times (and am a fan), and the rice in the sets here are very similar but the meat/veggies are a little more pristine here. They even had a banana slug-looking birthday dessert which was super yummy ice cream with a creative shell. It's lovely inside and felt cozy. It was pretty loud despite not being full and could barely hear each other most of the dinner. Food was good. We all tried a couple drinks and the menu without additions. Favorites were the duck dish and scallop khao soi. The flavors all went well together with a nice blend of spicy and salty. They were also able to accommodate nut allergies and vegetarian diners quickly. Drinks were pretty good. The mocktails were a bit too sweet and syrupy for me. Celebrated my man's birthday here on a Tuesday night and reservations were surprisingly easy to make! Tucked away in the corner of sutter and Buchanan, you will notice the hotel "Kimpton Hotel Enso". The entrance to the restaurant is on the Buchanan side. Once we arrived, we were greeted by staff and led to our table. we had the 11 course dinner with wine pairing and even added the lobster pad Thai as an addition to our meal. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. The chef from this restaurant worked at bo.lan in Bangkok, a Thai restaurant featured in the Michelin guide. The chef also owns Hed verythai in the Financial district. Hed11 is featured in the Michelin guide. Made a reservation for the 11 course tasting menu and our table was ready upon arrival. The restaurant is located inside the Kimpton Hotel Enso, right by Japantown. Parking is available on the street or in the nearby SFMTA Japantown garage. Staff throughout the evening was attentive in explaining courses. The 11 course tasting menu had a few add-ons, each at a price point of ~$49. The 11 course tasting menu was more than sufficient for 1 person. Started off with the oyster dish and the flavors were decent, albeit on the sweeter side. Moved on to the crab dip with sticky rice. The sticky rice was a touch dried out and the crab dip was decent. The 3rd course consisted of 3 small bite sized snacks which was presented nicely. The scallop khao soi course was my favorite with the super fragrant curry that complemented the noodles well. The wild mushroom course with the broth was tasty. Looking closer at the menu, this used to be made with black cod...so a slight downgrade... The yellowtail sashimi tasted great although I found the sashimi not super duper fresh... The grilled squid entree came out with a generous portion featuring super thick squid that wasn't rubbery. I didn't see any grill marks though. The side of sticky rice was tasty although I found the entree and the rice to be merely lukewarm. The duck course was ok. The duck was cooked towards a medium and the duck itself didn't seem too fresh as the duck felt a touch mushy. The duck skin was surprisingly not crispy... The watermelon course seemed small for a course. It was presented in conjunction with the duck course. The mango sticky rice ice cream was presented nicely with a bed of puffed rice. Ok, so I went here to try their Spring-Summer menu recently. This restaurant has been on my list for a while now, and I finally decided to try it to celebrate something! The items numbered are the ones part of the 11-course meal. I was surprised I actually enjoyed everything, even though I usually don't eat some of those raw items, lol but maybe me knowing it's fancy helped me enjoy the food more! Also, it seems like they give you your plates of food one at a time for the 11-course, but I think if it's almost closing time, then they seem to rush and give you the rest of the items that are part of the 11-course meal. My group was slow at eating since we kept going back to the menu to read what we were eating, so some dishes got a little mixed. I'd recommend this place! We felt that all of the food was excellent - we had beef and seafood orders - although recommend focusing on eating rather than conversation over the meal, as we did not eat fast enough and our soups got a bit cold. We did also have a serious nut allergy (epi pen on standby) and this guest was served a dessert with nuts - good thing we double checked before diving in but was concerning and surprising for a nice restaurant like this. The menu changes seasonally so it's nice that there's always something different when you come back based on what's fresh and in season. Some of my favorite dishes included the Grilled Hokkaido Scallop with Thai rice noodle and coconut curry starter which was in both sets, the angus beef steak with spicy mango salad from the Beef set and the pork ribs in tum yum soup in both sets. Overall all the flavors were good and there's a ton of food in each set. I did find that some of the meat was a bit tough and many of the dishes just weren't hot enough for me. The food generally has a good amount of heat to it, but in a way that is very complementary (not hot for the sake of being hot). The acoustics are a little tricky since it's a moderately sized space (while we were there, one table was pretty drunk and loud and it was hard to tune them out). The soup was very rich in different spice flavors, the scallop was perfectly seared, and the proportions of egg noodle, crispy noodle, and onion and limeade for 4 perfect and heavenly bites The duck with sticky rice fried in duck fat was also a fantastic course. I may have liked it because it was the most substantial. The sticky rice had perfectly cooked mushrooms and chestnuts inside, and a nice nutty rich flavor from being fried in the duck fat. The duck itself as expertly cooked, and the sauce it was served on was (like every other course) rich, complex, and bursting with flavor. You could really taste the freshness of the lemongrass, galanga, lime, and chile pepper (there were more ingredients, but that's all I could identify). The amberjack sashimi was in a yuzu broth with some Thai curry paste. It was kind of like an aguachile, the curry was sweet and seemed to have some coconut. It all made for a great dish. Finally, the dessert course was extremely solid. My wife doesn't normally like banana ice cream, but this was highly enjoyable. The ice cream was rich, creamy, and subtly flavored with banana. Since I t was a special occasion, so we sprang for the 11-course menu and got a couple drinks each. The service was helpful and prompt, though the restaurant was also pretty empty being a Wednesday. I appreciated that they catered to my dietary restrictions and offered modifications when needed. The food was flavorful and satiating - not sure if they up the sizes for the 8-course menu, but we may have left a little hungry with that. We even added an optional course of wagyu, uni, and caviar toasts. It was good, but it was supposed to come with Osetra caviar (our fav), but when they brought it out they said they ran out of Osetra and gave us salmon roe with a little extra to compensate for the change. That was a little disappointing, they could have told us that before or when we ordered! The drinks were good, but could definitely be taken up a notch or two. Four of us were very excited to dine at Hed 11 and try the tasting menu. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, good ambiance. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The bottles of wine we ordered were excellent. The tasting menu sounded very interesting and enticing. I will say each course was beautifully presented - five stars for presentation and service. The food itself? Disappointing. The first course tasted a little stale, not very fresh. Another course of red curry and rice tasted more like fish brine with a hint of currry. The main course was good with the salad and but the coconut rice with pandant was just okay. We were all a little disappointed in the food but we still had a good experience. It's hard to pick just one favorite, but if I had to, the black cod in tom yum soup absolutely stole my heart and when I say it stole my heart, I really meant that it was sooooo good, I took the risk and tipped the bowl to drink the soup (see photos for said bowl lol). It was rich, comforting, and layered in the most beautiful way. Other highlights? The Hokkaido scallop, Southern-style crab curry, amberjack with tangerine, and that unforgettable sticky rice ice cream. Each one offering a unique and delicious moment of its own and honestly, I loved that each dish had an element that shined. Hed 11 is the kind of place you'll find yourself thinking about long after the meal is over. I cannot wait to go back. I would understand , let's talk about the meal. We ordered the spring-summer meal. We got a beef and duck set menu. Scallops was delicious, Beef and duck cook perfect and I like the black rice . The pork dalkon soup little salty for me but the meat ball in the soup was very dry, the meat ball is baked in the oven and then add into soup. They should cook the meat ball in the soup. I made a reservation for 3 people on a Saturday at 12pm. The restaurant was 50% full. There was 1 waitstaff most of the time who did the order taking, bringing out the food, making cocktails and processing the bill. The lunch menu is very simple. It's a set meal, all at $40 each. They offer beef, pork, seafood and vegetarian. So my group got the beef, pork and seafood to share. Some of the items were identical such as the pork bone Tom yum soup and the cabbage side dish. Service was a bit slow but the staff was friendly. The beef was a bit dry and the pork bone in the soup was bland. The prawns and pork tasted better. I wasn't a fan of the fried shallots on the cheesecake. I liked the meal sets at their Hed Verythai location better. read more

My friend and I came here for a girl's lunch to enjoy their $45 special. I was pleased to see there was a vegan option here and was excited to try it. My friend ordered the duck. I ordered the Lion's Mane Mushroom. *A lovely note for the vegans and lactose-intolerant: there is a dairy-free option for the Thai iced tea (made with coconut milk). Given that this was a Michelin guide restaurant, we had certain expectations of the place and sadly we were disappointed. While the service was friendly and the server knowledgeable on the menu, the service itself was severely lacking in detail you'd expect from a $$$$ type of place. Our drinks came out first, followed by the appetizer, then came EVERYTHING ELSE all at once. Papaya Salad Daikon Soup Trio of rice (purple, brown, white) Curry + protein (duck for my friend, lion's mane mushroom for me) We tried to tackle the soup first. It came in an artsy looking bowl with undulated/rouged edges that was awkward to drink from but equally awkward to spoon the soup from. The daikon was VERY WOODY. Both my friend and I awkwardly spit out splintery fibers and left them on our plate. Some of my daikon chunks were fine but my poor friend had double the amount of woody mass collecting on her plate which was really unsightly, especially when you're supposed to be at a nice place. I can't say I've ever encountered this with daikon before at a restaurant. It's pretty easy to see which parts of the daikon are too mature to use. Next we tried to get on to our entree as that was cooling quickly. Unfortunately the curries were already somewhat congealed by the time we made our way to it. The vegan one was pretty good, but again, I had some woody bits in my food. I don't know if that's from the mushroom or if it was from another ingredient but the splintery clumps amassing on the side of our plates was not what we had imagined we'd be doing at a Michelin guide restaurant.... My friend's duck wasn't much better. She complained about the awkward texture and wound up spitting out half of that one her plate. -not to mention, her meal was served to her without a steak knife. After waiting for much too long, she got up to go request a knife and walked the knife back to the table like a psycho. I'm not trying to sound entitled here, but when a restaurant is supposed to be "nice" and has "$$$$", you sort of expect a certain caliber of service. Having to go ask for a knife when you ordered a chunk of meat does seem like a miss. For what it's worth, the curries for both of us had a unique blend of flavors. My friend had a penang currty sweetened with lychee. I don't remember what kind of curry mine was, but it was tasty with a kick in the end. Curry to rice ratio was perhaps 1:3. We had to ask for extra curry to accompany the protein and rice to balance everything out. It would have just been so pasty and dry otherwise (you know, since everything was already congealed...) By the time we got around to our papaya salad, it had gone from chilled to room temp. While it was tasty, it wasn't as refreshing as the salad could be. We're not sure why all courses were served at once, or if that's how this specific lunch service goes? The best course of the day was 100% the dessert. Order the vegan dessert! "Mango-sticky rice ice cream". It was a homemade mango ice cream with coconut milk base. It sounds basic but these ingredients were masterfully put together to create something truly unique. Not sure where the rice was in this whole situation, but who cares! This dessert was incredible! Lightly sweet, creamy and freshing. It arrived like a piece of art, like a glossy, glimmering mango sculture. The way that chilled mango puree spilled over, coating the ice cream underneath... It clung on to the ice cream layer just barely coating it for most perfect combination of sweet and creamy. It was unfortunate I got the last one for the day. My friend had the cheesecake which she said was tasty but not mindblowing like my mango ice cream. It also was... not so glorious. In fact, it looked small and flat, like a half used stack of mini post-it notes. All in all, it was a fun experience. The dishes were familiar favorites with a creative twist. For $45, it wasn't bad but I don't know about coming back for the $$$$ dinner experience based on this visit. Maybe we'll be back for the $40-$45 prefixe again in the future. read more

With a restaurant like Hed 11, you expect perfection (it is Michelin rated after all) and Hed 11 did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in the front door, you are met with impeccable service that lasts throughout the course of your entire meal. I tried the Spring/Summer eight course meal and it was absolutely delicious. For those that wonder about how much, I definitely feel full after the 8-course (and 11 course) meal. I wouldn't show up absolutely starving. The first two courses were a spicy salad and crab dip. The crab dip was delicious. The third and fourth courses were a scallop dish and TomYum soup. The soup was the perfect amount of spicy. The main entree was baby lamb and rice which were delicious. As it was described to us, the lamb is on top of an Indian style curry and it was exquisite. The dessert course was a delicious sorbet followed by an Andy Warhol inspired banana ice cream. For those (like me) who don't like bananas, the ice cream itself is not banana flavored. Located in a hotel, but there's an outside entrance. It's really close to japantown so parking is hard to find (easy if you're just parking in the garage). You get so much food (even without the supplements), please prepare accordingly. This spot was a really good example of what I wanted from upscale thai food (looking at you kin khao) and i thought every dish was really good/tasty. Favorites: Shrimp tart, Lamb, Mango ice cream, crab yellow curry, lobster pad thai Some of the dishes were a bit too spicy for my preference but overalll it was fine. The carpaccio and pad thai were a bit too salty but good flavor. Service was good! I thought this place was really worth it and a pleasant surprise! read more
