House bread and butter + cappelletti

Sorrel completely blew me away--truly a five-star experience from start to finish. Every single dish had me kicking my feet with excitement; the flavor combinations were so thoughtful, unique, and perfectly executed. You can tell an incredible amount of care goes into every detail, especially the plating--each course felt like a piece of art, right down to the beautiful, intentional choice of platter it was served on. One of my favorite parts was being able to see into the kitchen and watch the chefs in action. It added such a special, immersive element to the meal and made me appreciate the craftsmanship even more. You can feel the passion and precision behind everything that comes out of that kitchen. This was one of those dining experiences you keep thinking about long after it's over. Absolutely unforgettable.

    Pasta (honeynut squash)

Came on a Friday evening and it was probably a 1/3 full. Quiet, dark, intimate ambiance. Opted for the five course menu. - Half moon bay halibut: our least favorite course, too lean of a fish for my liking and felt tough to me - Sunchoke: fav course easily, perfectly crispy tempura, creamy and comforting but not too heavy - Honeynut squash: pasta was great, so savory for a veg based dish - Rock cod: uni and mussel on the side was a great touch, same for the mustard, dif combos brought out dif flavors in the cod - Semifreddo: felt familiar like an apple pie, was wary of the blue cheese but balanced it well The bread course before the pasta was fantastic. Loved the sourdough focaccia and the accompanying butters. Appreciate the variety as well. Also, before the semifreddo was a lychee pomegranate(?) mochi slush that was not too sweet and refreshing. Was surprised that I was able to finish all the courses and didn't feel sick at the end like I usually do with prix fixe menus. Didn't feel super heavy afterwards and glad to have found this spot. Looking forward to coming back and getting to try their supplementary courses as well.

    Sourdough bread and four butters

Sorrel is a wonderful, delicious experience. Each component of this prix fixe menu is unique, tasty, and beautiful. The food is exceptional! The staff is welcoming and passionate about the food and the room is casual and relaxed. For the excellent level of culinary prowess at Sorrel, the price, while high, is reasonable. Sorrel really shows off California food and cuisine. Highly recommend!

Just okay. We did the 5 course menu and it was fine. The ingredients were high quality and the presentation was nice but the flavors didn't excite me. I would say it was a bit bland? The best dish was the scallop at the beginning. The salmon main was cooked perfectly but needed more ingredients in the dish because it was too much salmon. I didn't finish it. Service however was excellent and definitely up to standard for a Michelin starred restaurant.

Bread and 4 different butter - I liked the anchovy one the most.

Food was good but service could use more improvement. I'm left handed and while I normally wouldn't care if my utensils are placed on my right side, this is a Michelin star restaurant and I expected better attention to detail. I was annoyed throughout my dinner that no matter how many times I moved my utensils to my left side, in front of the servers, that the servers never realized I was left handed. I was also disappointed that I had to ask the servers to clean the table when there was sauce on the table. The food overall was delicious and I really enjoyed the meal. I just wish the service was on par with the food.

    5 Course Tasting Menu
    Elle F.

Birthday Dinner for the Hubby . Opted for the 5 course tasting menu $115 PP & tried 2 supplements. My favorites were the 2 supplements we ordered. The liberty dry aged duck and fennel was superb . We did the half order $65 which was more than enough for the both of us. The sunchoke basque cheesecake with kaluga caviar $38 was outstanding. Loved the savoriness & saltiness of the caviar. It paired super well together. I was so happy when they told me it was pasteurized caviar. Being pregnant I have so many food restrictions so this was perfect. These 2 dishes are a must try. I was blown away by the sourdough foccacia bread & butters & also the desserts were executed perfectly. The strawberry palette cleanser was so refreshing and i loved the acidity and savoriness of the fruits. The Thai tea , black sesame , salted cream & popcorn dessert were an explosion of flavors and i loved every bite. Service was excellent. I think the tasting menu was okay . My least favorite dish was cod & the marubini . Overall , we had a nice dinner. Overall rating would be a 3.5

Had the pleasure of trying a short tasting and every bite from bread to pasta to main was gorgeous. You know it's a good sign when they start with good bread, and theirs was extraordinary. Generally less excited about ice creams for dessert but it was delish regardless. Wouldn't say any of the flavors were particularly exciting but well-executed. Service was on point as expected.

S'mores (with marshmallow, red miso caramel, and dark chocolate)

I originally had plans to have dinner at another restaurant but was told by a friend that plans changed and we were going to dine at Sorrel instead. I was very excited for the chance to try Sorrel, especially considering its Michelin star. Parking was a bit tricky with the shorter residential parking spots but I was able to find a spot a block away after only one round of circling. Upon entering the restaurant, I was instantly impressed with the ambiance, though it was a bit dark inside. I was seated immediately and was impressed with the night's menu: buckwheat gnudi (with sweet corn, shishito, and chanterelle), king salmon (with grilled cucumber, buttermilk, and brown butter broth), and s'mores (with marshmallow, red miso caramel, and dark chocolate). Bread was delivered to the table with three condiments; we weren't exactly sure what each of the three were but they were all good lol. The texture of the bread itself was great with a slight crunch outside and soft inside; I could eat it every day if I could. The buckwheat gnudi was very good but I was a bit sad that there were only two pieces in the small bowl. The king salmon was prepared very well, though I wished I had some sort of carb to eat with it. Next was a surprise dessert which tasted like a scoop of some sort of ice cream or gelato. This mystery dessert was very good and I could tell that this simple dessert had a lot of preparation and effort put into making it. Finally, the last dish was the s'mores, which seemed more like a deconstructed smores. This was very interesting, though I wish I had a larger portion. Overall, the food was exceptional, though a bit on the smaller side. It was a bit tricky to take pictures of my food because it was dark inside; the candles placed on the table helped a bit but can only do so much or lighting. The service was great, though there was a long gap in between the delivery of each course. Since each course was small, the delay made me hungrier before each course came. Regardless, I was very happy to finally try Sorrel and would definitely welcome the opportunity to dine there again.

Sorrel garners a 5/5 based on presentation alone. Every dish, every plate was so unique. While the food was excellent and cooked well, I could've used with a tiny more portion for each dish, but thats not to say I was hungry by the end of the meal. It was extremely filling, and hearty. Bordering on New American, every dish will have you thinking of a memory of a restaurant or experience you've had some time in your life. If I had one thing to say, I wish they would've chosen a different protein or different fish for the star of their 5-course menu, but the cod was still amazing! The servers are extremely attentive and very friendly. I can't wait to try Sorella next.

Came here for a work dinner and we all had a great time! I have been flip flopping between 4 and 5 stars...all of the dishes were very tasty but none of them made me go WOW so that is why I am rounding down to a 4 (since this a Michelin star restaurant). Our group opted for the 5 course menu with the duck supplement. We started with the yellowtail which was refreshing and yummy. The second course was an interesting combo of a root vegetable/chorizo/sweet onion which was unique yet still delicious. I thought the dumplings were just okay because the skin felt a bit thick. We were also served this warm, fluffy bread in the middle of our service, which was paired with 4 different types of butter - all delicious! The halibut was also pretty good. I enjoyed the flavors of the duck, but felt that the meat was a bit tough. Dessert was this thai tea with black sesame ice cream/cake which was yummy but a bit sweet (although that is to be expected with thai tea I guess). In terms of service, I thought everything was at a Michelin star standard. The wait staff coordinated their entrances when they came in with each dish.

Sorrel strikes just the right balance: refined but not rigid, ambitious without being overwrought, and rooted in California's best seasonal ingredients while still surprising you bite after bite. They absolutely nail it. We opted for the tasting menu with a few add-ons, and every course showed off Chef Alex Hong's technical skill and creative range. The opening bites alone set a high bar; e.g. briny oysters brightened with grapefruit and yuzu kosho, and a duck liver-filled rutabaga cornetto with a black garlic kick. The textures, temperature contrasts, and plating made it clear this was a serious kitchen. One of our favorite moments? A decadent caviar course layered over a bronzed Basque-style cheesecake: a combination we didn't expect but still yearn for to this day. We also loved the pasta course, twirled into a picturesque nest and crowned with truffle shavings that added dramatically to the dish in both aroma and depth. The Michelin Guide had described Sorrel's duck as "truly a sight to behold," and we loved the current offering, its golden skin crisp and the meat moist and tender. Every course wove together luxurious ingredients and bold pairings: Dungeness crab with a citrus twist, sweetbread with caramelized fruit, and perfectly cooked halibut over a smoky note of bacon. Service was polished and warm; we appreciated the team's pacing and right-sized explanations. The dining room felt intimate but not stuffy, elevated enough for a special night out, with none of the pretense. Dessert ended on a high: Thai tea, salted cream, black sesame, and popcorn came together in a dish that somehow felt both nostalgic and modern. I remember thinking: this is exactly what dessert should do--leave you curious, smiling, and full. Menus at Sorrel change with the seasons, but the creativity and execution are constants. Looking forward to seeing what the team does next.

    Ask the Community - Sorrel

    Is there a dress code?

No, but you may change your sneakers to "church shoes" and upgrade your cargo shorts to pants.

How cold/comfortable was it eating outside? We have a reservation for Dec. Did they ask for your Covid proof eating inside?

We went in October, so nights were warmer and brighter then, but there are ample heat lamps. Sorrel also offered us blankets if we did feel cold.… Read more

How far in advance can you make a reservation?

Their calendar on their website shows a year in advance which may or may not be valid for actual usage. I think 2-3 months ahead of time is a good time frame though.

What's the noise level like? Can you hear the whole table if you come with a larger group, or is it a "lean close with your date" place?

The noise level is rather quiet and everyone is spaced further apart due to covid safety protocols. I wouldn't worry about having trouble with carrying a conversation at this restaurant.

    Is casual dress appropriate?

Yes, but it's a nice place, so dressing slightly up will make your evening that more special. Enjoy

Is it better to book a communal table reservation or a supper table reservation?

I prefer a supper table usually ... unless I am eating at lazy bear 😛

Is this place good for vegans?

They don't have a wide variety of dishes for vegans but they do have a few. My daughter is vegan and she loved what she had and said it was one of the best meals she's had. Let them know you're vegan and they will ensure you are not disappointed.

High ratings, few reviews, but we were adventurous and decided to try it, glad we did. Ingredients is on a corner, looked relatively new from the outside LED "Open" sign prominent in the window. Once we walked in, however, we entered a different world from what we were expecting. Luxurious mustard seats, lots of tables for four, seating with high gray bench banquettes, reminding me of a 70s tune ("Diamonds in the back..."); retro vibe elegantly done with modern lighting and sconces. Not cheesy by any stretch, but in a neighborhood place you could wear sweats or a suit to eat at. Our waiter was Jackie, an enthusiastic young man who seemed like he wasn't just there to wait on tables. Throughout the evening he was easy to chat with while being knowledgeable about his food he served without being condescending. He made someone unfamiliar with the menu feel new-to-us dishes weren't going to be an experiment. We ordered the beet salad, the 8 ounce hamburger with fries, the mushroom risotto, and on Jackie's recommendation the Nepal BBQ ribs. In the meantime they served us house made brioche buns-warm, soft, delicate and chewy, flaky; reminded me of Texas Roadhouse buns, but far better. Served with a little olive oil and balsamic in a separated dish, you could eat them plain and enjoy the craftsmanship of baked excellence. We wanted more but in retrospect we would've been filled up with brioche and not enjoyed the meal. Tough choice. The roasted beet salad, served with shaved fennel, a beet balsamic jus, and an apple-citrus slaw that was fresh, sweet with hints of citrus offset by the fennel so it wasn't cloyingly sweet. The textures were enjoyable-the softness of the beets with the crunch of the fennel slaw, we anxiously cleaned the plate! Next came the risotto and the burger. What was enjoyable was the mushroom risotto-a refreshing presentation of toothsome Arborio, creamy yet firm, interplaying with a variety of mushrooms that immediately became one of the better risotto we've had, texturally excellent, not one note like most risotto, it came out hot but not searing; deft hands created a concoction that kept us going back for more. The burger was simple, cooked medium, but one of the best we've had in a very long time. We should qualify the burger as a cheeseburger as we were given a choice- bleu cheese or cheddar, we chose the bleu cheese and it was a good choice, just the right amount complimenting the veggies that came with burger. Oh, the fries-skinny, perfectly fried they stayed equally crunchy from first to last, served in a mini fry basket that was cute but it also showed they meant business, these fries were better than that Irish fast food place, and aren't they the iconic standard of French fries? IMO Ingredients is now the new standard. They were served with house made ketchup, excellent with or without. The ribs came last originally accompanied by a Mac and cheese but since we ordered risotto they served the ribs separately with a slaw. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone, but a little more savory than sweet , served with just enough sauce to accompany the ribs without being messy, easy enough to eat using knife and fork, the kicker was a hint of five spice, subtle enough if it's in ypur background, but not an annoyance if it's not. Flavorful, hearty, filling, delicious, We ended our meal with a homemade "apple pie," a creation made of thinly sliced apples, perhaps poached, with cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, along with fresh fruit, and a yummy scoop of "creamy"mango sorbet. Lots of surprising good vibes-no crust, all apple, not heavy; the mix of spices played well with each other; mango sorbet wasn't icy like sorbets tend to be, the fresh fruits added a touch of freshness to the dish that could have been sweet-centric, but not. A delicate yet satisfying end to a delicious meal. We met the chef, Sok, at the end of our meal, who had his culinary training n Kathmandu and expanded his repertoire in his world travels. He definitely knows how to elevate a good meal, and his Nepal and French influences add an understated flair to what he cooks. Sok takes tremendous pride in what he presents to the diner, evidenced by who he hires, and how each dish is presented. Dining in Ingredients is gratifying, from the dining room to the staff to the dishes themselves. More people should give Ingredients a try, a gem of a neighborhood find, a rarity in SF! All the dishes were innovative and beautiful. The prix fixe menu would be great for a large party since you'll usually have leftovers. The moment we walked in, the host greeted us with: "Just a reminder, we need the table back by 7:30." We sat down. Immediately, the waitress came over: "Just a reminder, we need the table back by 7:30." While we were waiting for our friends, our waiter brought us water: "Just a reminder, we need the table back by 7:30." Our friends arrived seven minutes later. Guess what? "Just a reminder, we need the table back by 7:30." Mission accepted. The food came out at lightning speed, family-style. We barely talked, ate like we were competing in the Olympics, and crossed the finish line by 6:55 p.m. starters and mains completely demolished. We were so proud of ourselves! Dessert arrived at 7:15 p.m. I always like to enjoy dessert with coffee, so I ordered a cold brew from another waiter. A few minutes later, our original waiter rushed over: "Cold brew takes about 10 minutes... and you'll be out of time because we need the table back by 7:30." At that point, I almost replied, "Don't worry, I'll just inhale it." The entire meal felt like a timed exam. The staff seemed stressed, robotic, and not a single smile in sight. Ironically, after we paid the bill and got up to leave... our waiter finally gave me the biggest, warmest smile of the night. Oh brother! The food was delicious, but the dining experience nearly gave me high blood pressure. Next time I'll bring a stopwatch instead of an appetite!

5/5 -- The Butcher's Board Is the Move…read more Blind Butcher in the Castro is the kind of place that earns its reputation. Moody, warm interior -- think modern speakeasy meets Castro bistro -- with a vibe that works equally well for a date night or a group celebration. We came four deep and zeroed in on two things: the Butcher's Board and the Branzino. Both delivered. The Butcher's Board ($365, serves 3+) is an event. Prime ribeye, filet mignon, rack of lamb, grilled octopus, crispy calamari, truffle lobster mac & cheese, shishito peppers, creamy mushrooms, butcher's potatoes, and toasted ciabatta -- it's a full spread, and every component pulls its weight. The lamb and ribeye especially stood out. Four people left genuinely stuffed, which is saying something. The Branzino ($44) -- whole grilled Mediterranean white fish with kimchi, shishito, olive oil, and lemon -- was the perfect counterbalance to all that meat. Clean, bright, and beautifully done. Service was attentive and the pacing was great for a group. This is a reliable spot that doesn't cut corners on quality. Highly recommend making a reservation and going big -- the Board is absolutely worth it.

I wanted to try this place for a while and now I'm here…read more I walked in and was seated directly at the bar. I ordered an espresso martini, the truffle lobster Mac and cheese, and the filet mignon. The martini was good, you can never go wrong with an espresso martini. The Mac and cheese was just okay, nothing crazy. The filet mignon was good. It was cooked to a perfect mid rare and I liked how they plated the seasonings on the side. This restaurant is very nicely decorated. It's a nice spot to go for casual drinks or even special date type occasion. Finding parking in this area can be challenge tho. Try it out if you like. :)

TIME: Came around 6pm for an anniversary dinner, wasn't packed at all…read more PARKING: tons of parking since this is in a shopping center/plaza, could be full if busier, and it's near Trader Joe's PLACE: love the vibe of the place and the lighting was nice, super cool to bring your family or a date night spot FOOD & DRINK: R.H.C. - tasted a lot like a hot minty drink with a splash of Coke, wasn't too good for me but if you like mint that would be more your vibe. LOWRIDER - the flavors are nice but the drink is super strong so it kind of overpowers everything Umami Fries - super good! Tasted similar to a sort of curry from a Thai or Indian restaurant for the seasoning Crispy Korean wings - honestly tasted like a very average Korean inspired saucy wing, nothing too special but it's served with ranch so that's nice Crab Cakes - probably one of the best things on the menu by far, the crab meat tasted so good and fresh and it honestly tastes like fisherman's wharf lol Miso Radicchio Caesar - was pretty good! I'm not a huge fan of salad or the cheese but my girlfriend loved it Miso Linguine - pretty good, tastes similar to a marry me pasta that I make at home with gochujang and miso paste. Chocolate Cake with Fig Ganache - really mid ): honestly I love chocolate cake but the ganache was like a dollop and it's a huge slice but it's so crumbly and dry, not a huge recommend. OVERALL: definitely for the vibes, food is ok, crab cakes are what I recommend out of what I got, since it was our anniversary the server comped the cake! But honestly not really worth spending almost $200 for a variety of food that was okay

The fries were pretty standard. The seasoning on it was good, but I wasn't a fan of how short the fries were. The burger was good & the salad it came with was fine. On the other hand, the gochujang wings might've been one of the worst wing flavors I've had in a while. The wing itself was actually cooked well, but the gochujang glaze threw it off. It didn't really even taste like the Korean style yangnyeom flavor that it was attempting to emulate. I really liked the of the ambience of this bar & our waitress was super nice. Would definitely come back for drinks at some point & maybe a burger in the future.

WOW!!! We made reservations after a day in Golden Gate Park through the RESY app…read more We were hoping for a good easy dinner before heading back to Petaluma. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and were greeted and seated within 5 minutes. The menu is reasonable and had good offerings. Both my husband and I opted for the Price Fixe 4 course dinner which was more of a tasting menu, $55.00 per person and absolutely delicious it started with a generous salad, a cup of ginger carrot soup, choice of entree and chocolate chip cookies with tahitisn vanilla milk for desert. We both had the NY steak . Every bite was delicious. We were very content but I will add if you have a large appetite you might be better ordering off the main menu. Great service, delicious food and a cozy dining room with a fireplace. We both agreed we can't wait to go back!

First off, the actual restaurant and the fireplace were so cute, very romantic and love the dim lighting. The service was also incredible. The servers and host were fabulous and attentive, and I got to meet the owner, and he was so kind. Bonus that the owner seemed like he enjoys being on the ground working with the people; and loved that he complimented me and my date. Cocktails were fabulous and very creative; probably one of the few nice cocktail bars out in the Richmond district. The food was very flavorful. My date got the steak and that was cooked with very nicely, although I think it could have use a little more chimichurri. But I got the prime rib bolognese pasta (I think that's what it was called) and that tasted so good; not as heavy as I thought it was going to be. We shared their ahi tuna, which tasted so fresh, and the dessert we got was decent (I'm not totally big on super sweet desserts but this was fine). Overall, I highly recommend coming here, and I plan on coming back as well.

The staff here was incredibly nice and helped us pick between some options we were thinking about on the menu. 2.75 stars. I…read moreshould've trusted my instincts. Momentarily, I questioned the reason behind Memento's low review count. Sure, sometimes it's nice to visit a lesser-known restaurant in hopes of finding a hidden gem, but the reality is -- any eatery worth Yelping about is being Yelped about. Every part of dinner further solidified Memento's status as a one-and-done deal. The mocktail we ordered was so syrupy thick, it needed watering down before we could drink it. Paella with sausage had a thin layer of crisp rice. Oddly enough, the tomatoey elements coupled with the type of sausage used reminded me of pizza. My bf reported that the steak in his surf & turf was undercooked & had a "funny" flavor. 'Nough said. As much as we'd like to support a neighborhood restaurant, it cannot be at the expense of good flavors & basic cooking techniques.
