    Calamari
    Laura K.

Delicious ! Yummy handmade in house pasta ! Went for dinner with friends, it may be very dim for some people so be prepared !! They broadcast an old time movie like on the wall. Music Bpm is great. Calamari was fresh and the batter didn't taste like old oil. Had the Mezzemaniche Boscaia with Cream very delicious , I had to sprinkle a bit of chili flakes to get a kick :) Great place for date nights or just a gathering ! If you want sides like ketchup, hot sauce, chili flakes. Make sure to ask your waitress/waiter.

Highly awaited review. I've anticipated trying Bottega as I've heard great things. No reservations are available, walk ins only so I was quite nervous that we'd have to wait. However, we were seated immediately. Our service was great. I wasn't impressed with the food. Our pasta was split into 2 which they did nicely, the vodka rigatoni. It wasn't anything great as our noodles were a bit undercooked, cold, and lacked flavor. I added a lot of red pepper flakes to compensate. I liked the spread of veggies and calamari but the breading wasn't as crispy -- more soggy which is a personal preference of mine. The flavor was there! I loved my wine..

I love the simplicity of the fettuccine pasta - garlic, cream, Parmigiano Reggiano, cracked pepper, salt. I was hungry but I couldn't finish my pasta at the restaurant. I don't think that fresh garlic was added (it tasted like garlic powder) cream was all in curds (probably with additives such as gums, stabilizers). I could not taste Parmigiano Reggiano, that's typically the highlight. The worst part? Fettuccine leftovers typically taste even better the next day. This was not the case. I'm probably not going back.

This is one of my favorite pasta places in SF. I absolutely love the salmon fettuccine - it's always perfectly cooked and amazing sauce. We also got the oxtail ragu, which had a really rich, unique flavor. The fried calamari is fun and comes with mixed vegetables too - always perfectly crispy with a light batter. Also free bread! Service is great and this place is so cute. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but it does get busy on weekends so it might be a little bit of a wait.

I had heard positive things from friends and colleagues so I suggested this to some friends visiting from out of town and we came here on a weekend evening. The location was packed, so we signed up for the waitlist and waited alongside others on the waitlist before a table freed up. We waited at least 30 minutes, so I'd recommend using the Yelp waitlist if you can. The decor was vibrant and bright, which I think is a big reason the location is popular, like for Instagram-type photos and such. There was indoor and outdoor seating. Our table shared a standard pizza and a few pastas that seemed popular. The food was fair and tasteful. The service was ok. The waiter for our table was polite, and offered some notes when asked about particular menu items. They were pretty straight to the point, like a quick in and out to take our food and drinks order and give us the bill. The food took some time to come out, perhaps more than 20 minutes. I had an ok experience at this location, but it didn't live up to the hype my friends and colleagues raved about. I think it was probably due to it being a very busy night and my expectations were too high. Next time, I'll try going at a time when it's not busy and also try some of the other items on the menu.

Came to try out this restaurant with friends and it did not disappoint! I loved the ambiance - the interior is so beautifully decorated! The service was also great - the servers checked on us periodically, gave us recommendations, and overall took great care of us :) As for the food, we got the salsiccia e fungi pizza, gnocchi with pink vodka sauce, and the special - seafood spaghetti - to share. It was definitely enough food for three people, and they also offered us a lot of free bread! The pasta and gnocchi were both cooked perfectly. The seafood spaghetti was a bit spicy, but overall so flavorful and delicious. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy, and the sauce was tasty - creamy with a great tomato flavor. The pizza was also very flavorful wit a great combination of sausage and mushroom and onion. Overall, loved this meal! I would definitely come back to try new dishes and also the drinks !!

Been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and glad I finally made it! The food was very tasty and the pasta was super fresh! Our waitress was great and constantly checking on us, she even brought us a meatball for our dog! We sat outside but the inside is really nicely decorated. Would like to try indoors next time. Definitely worth checking out!

    Prosciutto e Burrata Pizza
    Maya K.

Cute date night spot with a nice ambiance, great service, and deliciously rich italian food! We tried many things-- the prosciutto burrata pizza was our favorite! The pastas were great too, we tried the shrimp vodka sauce, and the pesto gnocchi. Yum!

I recently visited Bottega in SF with a few friends, and there were quite a few standout dishes. The vodka pink pasta with chicken was creamy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The waiter recommended the coda alla vaccinara to us, which was an ox-tail ragu that was rich, hearty, and tender. This was my favorite because of the ox-tail element, and the meat was paired well with the wide noodles. The prosciutto pizza was well-balanced and fresh, and this was a close second-favorite. The portion sizes were generous, and three main courses were filling for four people. Great spot for classic Italian dishes!

First time visit and I was pleased. The ambiance was lively but also intimate and welcoming with soft lighting and light music. There were a couple of misses with service but it was generally good and the staff were attentive and friendly. Food order was as follows: Carciofi - Delicious! Trimmed of tough outer leaves and fried/braised to in olive oil. Light, refreshing, and full of flavor. Mezzelune Al Porcini - We eat with our eyes first. It is unfortunate that the beautiful ravioli and black truffle cream was hidden under a mountain of arugula. The dish was tasty and the flavor of arugula went well with the pasta but the presentation was a poor choice. Chicken Parmigiana - The chicken evenly sliced and cooked to perfection. The batter adhered nicely and grasped the sauce well. The sauce had depth and balance. The rigatoni pasta was toothsome and al dente.

    Tiramisu
    Alex T.

This place is absolutely gorgeous!! The first thing I saw when I walked in was how the ambiance captivated my eye. We started off with calamari and complimentary bread with olive oil and the for our main dish we had margharita pizza with Italian sausage and finished it with tiramisu for dessert. Overall the food was 10/10 and I would definitely recommend to try!!! The service was also pretty good and our server gave us some good recommendations. I'm hoping to come again soon

    Justin M.

Cute pink interior, friendly servers, but just okay food. I was expecting a bit more but still worth coming to try! FOOD: Coda alla vaccinara (4/10) - The noodles felt really soggy or overcooked with no texture, and the sauce + oxtail were overly salty. Would skip Mezzemaniche Boscaiola (6/10) - Definitely better with good texture and sausage, but still felt like something was missing Pizza Guanciale (5/10) - Again, not the worst pizza I've had but was expecting more. It felt like it was missing some depth or even just toppings Mezzelune ai Porcini (8/10) - Best dish here. Definitely flavorful, delicious, and a good sized portion for ravioli. Would get this!

I came to Bottega with my sister on a Saturday morning. We stood at the entrance for about 10 minutes waiting to be seated, even though multiple staff members saw us there. There was a large party of about 15-20 people being attended to, and no one else paid attention to other guests. Once we were finally seated, it took another 15 minutes just for someone to take our order, and the food didn't arrive for another 20 minutes after that. Unfortunately, we were never checked on throughout the meal, which made the service feel inattentive and unorganized. The pasta itself was genuinely great, but not good enough to outweigh the lack of service. Overall, it's hard to justify coming back with an experience like this.

Yes, we are! Till 11 pm

Is it good for big group gathering?

Hi Ginny, Yes! the restaurant inside has a lot of seating/tables including a large rectangular shaped one that appears to accommodate approximately 12 to 16 people.

Do they have outdoor seating at lunchtime?

They do it's in one of those outdoor wooden patios.

    No fees

    Gluten free crust?

I'm fairly certain the answer is yes.

Can you accommodate large groups for special occasions or events?

    YES!

    Yes

Is there indoor seating for a group of 10?

They can for sure combine tables. I would suggest you call them to make this adjustment.

Hi is there seating for 10 people?

Yes for outside as I've dined outside for a large group. Unclear about large groups for indoor dining.

Do you offer any gluten free options for pasta/pizza?

    I don't know

Do you need proof of vaccination?

No, nobody asked for ours but they also have outdoor seating options.

    Are you vegan friendly?

Not vegan friendly (at least that I know of)

How big are the pizzas? Is it personal size or share with a group?

Our pizza was enough for 5 people to have 1 slice, plus 2 extra.

How big are the portions? Enough to split with a friend?

Good sized portions! Depending on your appetite, I'd say portions are big enough to split.

Amelia made everything super easy from the start: she sent a menu survey ahead of time, was really accommodating with a time and headcount change, and was overall just great to work with. 5 star experience without any doubt…read more It started with Eros Ramazzotti music as I walked in. I thought - the music is definitely authentic Italian. I saw a "pasta lab" sign and thought - that may or may not be authentic, never heard of that before. When my fettuccini pasta arrived I thought - it definitely looks authentic - heathy yellow pasta color. The first bite was an official confirmation that their pasta is freshly made, the sauce was amazing and the Parmesan was top-notch. This restaurant does not try to cut corners on lower quality inexpensive ingredients. This was one of the best fettuccini plates I had in SF. The only regret? I ate too quickly because I was on a rush. I wish I had more time to savor the flavors. Highly recommended and I will be running (not walking) back.

When the dish landed, I was initially impressed. But after the first bite, it felt a bit like the Wizard of Oz: impressive presentation hiding something less substantial underneath. Their lasagna is a sort of deconstructionist take on the classic dish. The noodles are cooked and layered almost naked between barely any pockets of filling. There were a few tidbits of meat, maybe sauce and no cheese within the layers themselves. The noodles are then baked, cut, plated, and topped with what I'd guess was about a 6 oz ladle of their bolognese, finished with finely pre-grated parmesan. The first bite was overwhelmingly pasta-forward. It took me a moment to understand how the dish had been assembled against my expectations. Once I cut into it and spread everything out, it became clear this wasn't the kind of lasagna I think of when ordering lasagna. It didn't check the familiar boxes - a rich ragù, maybe a creamy béchamel, or the sharp, salty depth of cheeses layered throughout. The dish lacked the complexity and savory comfort I was craving and expecting. Another miss was the homemade flatbread (which I went back and paid cash for, so it wasn't included in the total). Traditional Italian flatbread is a yeast-free bread made with flour, olive oil or lard, salt, and water or milk, then rolled thin and cooked until crisp yet chewy. This version tasted like flour, lard, and water. It wasn't crisp or chewy. As soon as I started chewing, it turned into an unappetizing doughy mass in my mouth. After the first quarter-piece, I didn't eat anymore. As for everything else, I arrived around 7:15 on a Saturday night, and the inside was packed with a small line to the door. The outdoor tables weren't full, but it was summer in San Francisco, more people were jockeying for seats inside than out. But I wasn't too concerned and I got there around 7, so all that is on me. There were a few specials written on a chalkboard, and the cashier was awesome while explaining those. They were incredibly patient. I apologized for holding up the line, and in a very Italian way, they assured me it was my right to make sure I ordered exactly what I wanted. That interaction honestly stood out as one of the better parts of the experience. I grabbed a table just as one opened up, helped myself to water a few times from the station, and my food arrived in about 20 minutes which wasn't bad considering how busy they were. There's been a bit of internal conflict with this review. I usually don't like judging a restaurant based on a single dish, especially a restaurant with so many positive reviews. But I also don't spend as much time in that part of the city anymore, and there are simply too many other places I still want to try. Unfortunately, while there was some good-looking food on other tables, if a restaurant's claim of lasagna as its signature dish doesn't hold up, the first visit just didn't do enough to pull me back for a second chance.
