It started off great with appetizers we both enjoyed. But both the pizza and pasta were a let down. The spaghetti de pepe was dry like really bad. I told the server & he gave the note to the kitchen but was a lil defensive. We are realizing that almost not place can do this specific pasta correctly. Not enough pepper or sauce & pasta should be a bit alenté. The pizza we ordered was listed under red sauce but had none, it was pesto but not on the whole pizza. The ricotta we wanted on top added was not the moist, whipped kind that ...it was dry & crumbles but I think we just got confused on what ricotta salada is. either way our pizza was soggy but had good flavor in the toppings and crust was decent just all soggy in the middle. service was really good.., he was attentive, nice and very accommodating! Ambiance was busy, loud pretty packed at first but then calmed down. Love the big pizza oven but otherwise no special decor or vibe. I think its more like a neighborhood staple/ go to.

Thank you blue shirt guy for pointing out the best table in the house. Had a great time meeting up and chatting with friend. Ordered crispy calamari/shrimp. The mushroom pizza had spice. Should have read menu more carefully but loved the combination of ricotta cheese and fresh mushrooms. Pizza is soft side. My ink squid pasta was a tad salty but loved the al dente pasta. Fresh scallops and clams. Cute young waiter with perfect smile. Good dentist!

Very solid Italian spot right in the heart of Hayes Valley. A group of friends and I came for dinner on a Thursday night, and we were seated immediately. It was still pretty busy, and the restaurant was pretty packed but service remained prompt throughout. I ordered the marechiaro pasta which is a squid ink pasta tossed in a spicy red sauce. It had quite the kick which I really enjoyed. Good portion size, al dente noodle texture. For the table, we got the margherita pizza, and it was solid. Very thin pizza, not too saucy, just the right amount of flavor. It was exactly how I enjoy my pizzas. I'd definitely come again if I'm craving Italian food. It's a different vibe from a Mano which is close by, but I'd choose Doppio Zero. Less of a wait time, better food, and quicker service.

All of our food was amazing. Everything we ordered was as expected and delicious. One of the best desserts I've ever had. The fried artichoke was also AMAZING! Service was friendly and helpful. Genuine Italian feel. Tables are really close together but luckily we didn't have too many people around us since we were late lunch time.

We originally called to make a reservation for 7 but they didn't have us down when we got there. However, they were very quick to get a table ready for us regardless which I appreciated. The ambiance was nice, enough space for all of us, given we were a larger group. The food was more of a 3.5/5. I would highly recommend ordering pastas over the pizzas here. Think a lot of other restaurants in this city have better pizza like Tony's and Flour + Water. I enjoyed the Gnocchi and would get it again. Not sure I can say the same for the rest of the dishes.

This restaurant carries a history of Michelin recognition (2019-2021), which naturally sets a certain expectation. The Burrata & Prosciutto and grilled octopus were well executed, and the Cacio e pepe pasta truly stood out, perfectly al dente and full of flavor. The rotisserie chicken was nicely roasted and satisfying. The kitchen clearly understands technique and balance. The ambiance is warm and inviting, ideal for a relaxed yet refined meal. Service was pleasant, though at times a bit slow, particularly in the outdoor seating area. Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience with beautifully executed pasta. I would gladly return.

Came here for dinner and didn't have a reservation. They were able to seat us quickly outdoors. It was raining so that's probably why they had a bunch of tables available outside. It was perfectly covered so no problem there. Bread basket (3/5): Standard bread basket. It came with an italian salsa verde. Never fun having to pay for bread but whatever. Fettuccine short ribs (5/5): This was fettuccine with slow braised short rib in a chianti red wide sauce. I loved it. The egg noodles were nicely cooked, not too thick. The sauce coated everything nicely without being too heavy. The short rib was so tender. The portion was surprisingly good. The service wasn't that great, not sure if they were busy. I asked for an extra napkin and they never gave it to me. Too a while to get the check too. I had to ask twice. Nothing horrible. Overall a good little dinner spot.

We were looking for a restaurant to watch the World Series at before our dinner reservation nearby. This place is actually perfect for spots if you can snag at spot at the bar. We started with a few dirty martinis and migrated over to espresso martinis. The funghi pizza with some pepperoni was a perfect tie me over until we went to our dinner reservation. The location of Doppio is excellent for a fun date night out or with your girlfriends, lots of restaurants and bars. We didn't get the full dinner experience, but the service was friendly at the bar so we'll definitely be back!

A Hidden Gem That Completely Saved Our Night We ended up at Doppio Zero by pure luck after a major inconvenience at another restaurant left us stranded across town before a concert. What started as frustration turned into one of the most memorable dinners we've had in San Francisco. The hostess was upfront that the only available table was outside in their little street‑side shack and that it was reserved at 6:30. We appreciated the honesty and told her we'd be wrapped up before then. The space itself was surprisingly charming -- rustic wooden table, a composite bench on one side, and a plexiglass windbreak that still let the warm sun in. Cozy, simple, and unexpectedly perfect. Our server greeted us immediately with water and genuine warmth. We started with the grilled octopus served over sweet potato purée with mixed greens. It was beautifully plated, but unfortunately the flavor didn't match the presentation -- easily the weakest dish of the night. From there, everything took off. Our server told us about a brand‑new special: whole grilled dorado with chimichurri, roasted potatoes, rainbow carrots, lemon, and herbs. We ordered it along with the gnocchi in a light tomato sauce topped with burrata. When the entrées arrived, the presentation was stunning. The whole fish came on a metal platter -- head on -- which my wife wasn't thrilled about, so I took it. Once I removed the head and opened it up, the aroma of rosemary, thyme, and grilled lemon hit immediately. The fish was tender, perfectly roasted, and the chimichurri brought everything to life. The potatoes were a clever play on scalloped potatoes -- caramelized, buttery, and deeply flavorful. The rainbow carrots were roasted beautifully. My wife ended up eating more of my fish than her own gnocchi, even though the gnocchi was excellent -- pillowy, balanced, and bright with the tomato and burrata. By the end of the meal, we both looked at each other and said the same thing: This place saved our night. Doppio Zero may be known for their pizzas, but based on what we tasted, their entire menu deserves attention. It's truly a diamond in the rough on the south side of Van Ness, and absolutely worth seeking out. We'll be back -- on purpose next time.

We made a reservation here for a dinner after a performance at the opera house. This place is a convenient walk from the opera house, and the interior is warm and cozy. We got the pizza with arugula and chorizo. The pizza was neapolitan style with soft chewy dough and very little crisp. I enjoyed the sausage, sauce and cheese ratio. The short rib pasta was also good. But nothing really stood out. Service was just ok.

Came here with friends for a nice dinner on Sunday evening! The ambiance is great! I liked the interior though outside - we were kept warm with the heaters! The service was also good considering they were quite busy when we came. At times it would take a while to order or get our check, but overall the service was pretty good and we got our food, drinks, and desserts in a timely manner. The food was amazing! I left feeling so so so full. I got the gnocchi, shared the octopus with friends, and got the porn star drink. The food was cooked perfectly and was quite flavorful. The drink was also very delicious and not too sweet. Overall, I enjoyed the experience dining here and would definitely come back again for more meals :)

happy hour bites & appetizers - Little Gem Salad is the best

this is my favorite italian restaurant in sf! my bf and i stumbled upon it randomly before a concert at bill graham and we had an exceptional experience the first time, we've come back multiple times for dates, anniversaries, and even on a crazy busy day like valentine's day! most importantly their staff is amazing. i recall the first time we came and i had told the manager how this is the best restaurant i've ever been to and he shared personal stories about how meaningful this place is to him and how it's his favorite pizza and they treated us with a complementary tiramisu. for that reason i think is why we hold this restaurant location close to our hearts! we've visited the san carlos location and this one is still by a landslide our favorite even though it requires a trip into the city. now for the food! they have a great happy hour appetizer selection. my favorite appetizer is the little gem salad because of the whole pieces of anchovy! fav pizza is the funghi pizza. crust is soft and not too thick. their chili oil makes it the best. tiramisu - very coffee forward tasting & layered amazingly.

The entire pizza had shifted in the box, slices were folded over, grease was splattered all over the lid, and it was no longer hot by the time it arrived. What made this even more frustrating was the amount paid for delivery. In addition to the food cost, I paid a $3.99 delivery fee, a $5.70 service fee, and tipped the driver $5.50. For that kind of added cost, I think it's reasonable to expect the pizza to arrive level, intact, and hot. The restaurant is about 4 miles from my house, and it appeared the delivery was made by bicycle, which may explain why the pizza ended up tilted and damaged during transport. I can't say that for certain, but something clearly went wrong between the restaurant and my door. The pizza itself may have been good fresh out of the oven, but the delivery experience completely ruined it.
