The Nam Khao was amazing-highly recommend! We also got the Larb Chicken with rice and Khao soy and both were good. Will be back for more!

We've been coming to Noodle 21 for over 5 years now, and it continues to be one of our favorite spots! My husband introduced me to this place, and over time I found my perfect pho order -- #21 with thin egg noodles, no bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Back in August 2024, the original owner told us he was leaving and passing the business on to his partner. He was always so kind, always made time to chat with us, and greeted us warmly every visit. I was pregnant at the time, so sadly, he never got to meet our baby -- but we're happy to say we've kept coming back and still love it just as much as day one. The staff now is just as welcoming. They remember us, they remember our baby, and it truly feels like a place that values its regulars. The food is consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is comforting and familiar. We're so glad this spot continues to thrive, and we look forward to many more meals here as a family.

I'm glad I came back here again, for awhile I did not come here because of Covid. After returning from covid break, food and service was not the same and never came back. After hearing a new management taking over I gave this place another try. It did not disappoint, my fav noodle 21 is why I came back here. The Lao infusion added to the menu elevated this place. Ambiance - use to be cluttered but now it's all cleaned up. I will be coming back!

Let me just say WOW. Noodle 21 a true authentic Laos/Thai fusion restaurant located in San Pablo. The soup was so good! Didn't even needed to add any extra seasoning. The chili oil was also so good! Service was quick and friendly. It wasn't busy for a Saturday. Ambiance was quiet and chill. Restaurant was nice and bright. * Number 21 (House Speciality Rice Noodle) 5/5 * Khao Piak (Lao Chicken Noodle Soup) 5/5

The dish I always order from Noodle 21 is their Chow Jew With Thick Egg Noodle Soup (#21 modified with thick egg noodles - I forgot to order it with thick egg noodles today so my photo is with what it usually comes with, hofun noodles). It's been my go to dish for the past 20 years since going to VH Noodle House in Oakland and their El Cerrito (now called "Mi") location weekly back in the day. Noodle 21 is pretty much the same restaurant as VH and Mi. Though they honestly were missing something in their recipe for a while, specifically something in their broth. I will say I have never had a particularly bad meal from Noodle 21, though there was just something in their flavor that was not there. Fast forward to today. I was craving noodle soup this evening and decided to give Noodle 21 a try again. Yes! Whatever they have done to enrich their broth flavor, it's there. I don't know if it's one of those broths where they add more ingredients every day and it becomes better as they go or what. Though they now have that deep flavor that I've been wanting from them. Definitely beats driving out to El Cerrito or Oakland for my favorite noodle dish since moving to the Pinole area. The one thing I'd like to see from Noodle 21 is the kidney in their soup was a little overcooked today, though I did order to-go; so I'm sure that plays a factor on how they would cook kidney in general. Overall I'm very happy to see their flavor is now there and I am looking forward to my next bowl of soup already.

Everything was delicious!! Customer service was great, very welcoming. Will definitely be back!

CQ…read morerepresents everything I love about a family-owned Chinese restaurant and is a place I'll continue to visit and support. Cucumber Salad (7/10): Pretty different from most typical cucumber salads that are sesame oil-heavy. This version was more acidic, almost like a pickled cucumber dish. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it worked well as a refreshing palate cleanser between the more flavorful entrées. Shanghai Style Sweet & Sour Ribs (8/10): Very reminiscent of American-style Chinese food. The ribs were extremely tender, and the sauce was sweet without being too overpowering. Pairing bites with rice and cucumbers kept me wanting more. The bok choy on the plate was simply boiled, and while I enjoy clean, plain vegetables, others might expect a bit more. Braised Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10): There are many noodle options to try here, and we went with the regular hand-pulled. The noodles were good, though I personally wished they were a bit firmer. The broth had a deep umami flavour and was exceptionally well seasoned. I found myself dunking rice from the set plate into the broth and just eating that. The meat could have used a little more character, as it was just tender slices, but it didn't need much more since the broth carried the dish. Definitely a place I plan to visit anytime I'm in the area, and I'm excited to try more of the delicious dishes on their menu.

It's like a pho salad. It has tons of bean sprouts underneath the noodles and a lot of deep fried garlic pieces that make the noodles taste like Hong Kong crunchy noodles. At first I thought the egg noodles were fried. It was crunchy and there wasn't a lot of noodles but mostly a lot of sprouts and herbs. There were a lot of fatty barbecue pieces that I did not eat. I enjoyed one shrimp and one piece of squid. There were a ton of fake crab meat. The side soup was very nice and hot but had a taste of chicken fat and lots of salt and MSG. The noodle dish is extremely tasty and doesn't need any addition of soup. This was excellent on a hot day after a nice hike at Tilden Park. My husband ordered the same dish as me at my recommendation and loved it. My friend had their chow fun with seafood and barbecue. She enjoyed it and it was a generous amount so she took home half. This place is not shy about using MSG and the food is very salty and strong tasting. I find the dishes much cheaper than other Vietnamese restaurants. My dish was only $13.50. That's very cheap since it was full of herbs and seafood. Service is very efficient when they're not busy. No frills. Service is very slow when it's busy. Most of their customers are people who are coming here during their office lunch break during the weekdays. I noticed it was very quiet on a weekend. I'm still going to go back to my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Berkeley next time I am in the area, Phosho Dough.

If you see Nam Khao on the menu of a Laotian/Thai restaurant, that means they know what they are doing just because it's so labor-intensive to make a salad(!) and the fermented pork has to be damn-near perfect for this salad to really shine and round out the fresh herbs and seasonings which includes lime juice, vinegar, and fish sauce. Ka Soy (the noodle soup) is a comfort food enjoyed in Southeast Asia. It's not the Thai-style where it's a curry broth and the noodles are fried, so let's not get it mixed up. Instead, it's bone broth that been simmered for hours and it's somewhat a lighter broth. The noodles are wide rice noodles in a big bowl of hot broth served with a mixture of ground pork cooked down with tomatoes along with fresh bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro - simply a divine noodle soup that a must-try. It's not overly complex in terms of flavor, but it's a bowl of good ol' noodle soup that is comforting and great-tasting. If you haven't tried Laotian food, give Sue's Kitchen a try. try some new flavors and you may just become a regular (if you aren't already). The owners are friendly too! It had basically two tablespoons of chicken that looked boiled. The soup tasted like water which made me add too much chili paste. The noodles were nothing to write home about though homemade. There were not a lot of noodles and mostly a lot of water for 15 dollars. I think the soup was supposed to come with crunchy garlic but it did not come with anything but a little bit of cilantro. All in all, just a very sad dish for $15 which I could have made at home with nothing but boiled water and noodles from the supermarket. My husband had their massaman Curry beef. They were training someone to cook in the kitchen and this curry came out with the texture and flavor of water. They were very kind to refund us for the curry as it was completely tasteless. One of the kitchen staff tasted the curry themselves and said that it had no flavor and apologized profusely. The restaurant itself though clean has a strong unpleasant smell.
