This is one of our go to spots for orders because they are so accommodating of dietary restrictions (eg vegan/vegetarian and need no fish sauce) and the food still tastes BOMB. I was so shocked. Chang Thai is my favorite little hidden Gem! I finally decide to share it with you all because I love it so much. That I want you all to try it! The husband and wife are extremely attentive. It's a nice and cozy place and perfect to enjoy with yourself, and family as well. The wife and grandma do all the cooking. The husband treats you as if you were a family member. This Thai Vietnamese restaurant is a hole in the wall. If you're ordering Thai food take out, this is 5 stars! Their Red curry, Green curry and Panang curry are our favorites. Their papaya salad is so good,too! Their servings are big and they are very much cheaper than the other Thai restaurants. Today I ordered beef Red curry and it was only $14 with tax. I think it is a 24 oz. container that they're using for the take out. Street parking and they have parking but I would suggest just to order take out. The servers are very polite. While today's weather was substantially cooler that yesterday's heat wave, it was extremely stuffy upon stepping inside, although two fans were on. The recently posted menu I found online did not reflect the current prices, so I took a shot of the full menu as of 03/26/25. The male server was mediocre, since he practically ignored the two questions my vegetarian friend asked about the contents of a main dish and a dessert. She had to chase him down as he was walking away both times. We ordered the vegetarian the stir fried "Ginger" dish and a mild yellow curry "eggplant," each with tofu, and two bowls of steamed rice. The Ginger dish was plenty for anyone with a decent appetite. The curry eggplant was a perfect consistency and flavor, except it lacked the main ingredient - eggplant! While there were several diced potatoes and sliced carrots, there were only FOUR pieces of eggplant, so I could not rate this establishment at 4 stars. A Hidden Gem! I'm familiar with the area and thanks to Muang's review and photos, it got me hungry and lured me into checking it out. I didn't expect much, but wow, what a hidden gem! I ordered red curry, spicy chicken wings and egg rolls. The curry was surprisingly delicious and comparable to my wifey's and I favorite Thai restaurant in Pinole, Thai Spice. The ingredients tasted fresh and the broth was semi thick and flavorful with some heat! The spicy wings were yummy! So much flavors and tasty. Wish it had more heat though. Nevertheless, I should have ordered more! Lol! As for the chicken egg rolls/lumpias, fried perfectly and tasted acceptable as well. Not as good as my mum's homemade lumpias, but who is? Every time I come back to Chang Thai, I am reminded of how good their food is. Today we had the Nam Tok for appetizer, and Pad Thai, Kao Soy and the Grilled Pork/Pork Patty/Shredded Pork combi (#68). The Nam Tok was excellent. The chili roasted rice powder, galanga, red onion, cilantro, lemon grass, kaffir lime leave in lime juice dressing gave an intense and smorgasbord of flavors that was so addictive. Their Kao Soy was one of the best version in the area, and the pork combo dishes gave this pork lover 3 ways to enjoy his favorite meat. Though their prices have gone up like all other places due to inflation, they do not skimp on the herbs and fresh vegis that came with each dish. I cannot praise this place enough. My go-to's are their pad see ew, curries (all of them!), spicy fish with basil, the eggplant with basil, and their khao soi. They even have the best jasmine rice! Our family ordered Lao/Thai food family style: Chicken mixed veggies, chicken green curry, papaya salad Lao style, nam kao, eggplant entree, and pad Thai. You can choose what protein you'd like in each dish. We enjoyed all the dishes, except for the mixed veggies as it was a bit on the salty side. Legit 7 years later and this restaurant has yet to fail me. I always get an array of vegetable platters from veggies in garlic sauce, veggie fried rice, veggie soup, curries.. you name it. Best part is it is always made fresh and with love! The chili self serving stations at the tables may not be as tidy and the place may need a wipe down but the prices do not beat the quality of fresh ingredients and taste of this food. I hate downgrading my favorite Thai restaurant but my husband ate their beef yellow curry and got bad food poisoning. He was quite sick. I had their combo fried rice and the cucumber tasted very funky and old. We both got the stomach flu from eating here. I don't think they are storing their food correctly here or using correct hygiene protocol like disinfecting hands before handling food. Their safety score on Yelp is pretty low. People come here for the delicious Thai food, but few are aware of the exceptional Vietnamese food that they also have on their menu. Sure, their curries and Pad Thai are legit, but their Bun Thit Nuong , crispy Banh Xeo (Vietnamese savory crepes and you get 2!) are our usual favorites. We've even ordered the papaya salad and the Bun Bo Hue and it hits the spot on a cold night. A past reviewer said they thought the portions are smaller than other restaurants, but quality trumps quantity in this case for me. The portion for the Bun Thit Nuong has just the right amount of noodle to meat to veggies. Other places give too much noodle and that's what I leave behind most often, but here, I clean my plate and always leave satiated. The owner is very polite and accommodating and his wife is part of the amazing chefs in the back. I love supporting hard working families that deliver authentic food. I was kind of iffy about coming here to try some viet food. My boyfriend wanted Thai and I was craving some Vietnamese food, so we gave this place a shot since he's been wanting to try something from here. I was curious whether the owners were Viet or Thai/Laos. I wanted Papaya Salad, but the weather was too hot that day and the inside did not make it any better; it was so humid! This was around 7:30pm. Outside was getting cold and it was really windy, but inside was sooooo hot! It was hard to enjoy the food. I ordered the Vermicelli with beef. They didn't have beef on the menu, so I had to ask. I thought it would be the same price as the menu states, but it was $9. When it came out, I was expecting a large portion that most Vietnamese places gave. The portion looked small and there weren't much meat or veggies. The fish sauce that came with it did not help with the flavor of the noodles since the noodles seemed like it was microwaved! It was really warm, which is unusual since most vermceilli come out as cold. I had to request another bowl of the fish sauce to give it more flavor, since the noodles soaked it all up because it was too warm. However, the portion did fill me up. My boyfriend got the chicken fried rice and he said he enjoyed it, but the portion was smaller than most places. However, that filled him up too. My sister got the chicken appetizer. I think they were chicken wings? It had a sticky sweet and sour sauce on top and it was reaaaally good. It tastes kind of like the famous wings from Tan Sung! I'll definitely be coming back for those. I did find out that they were indeed Vietnamese, but based off of the vermicelli I ate, you should probably stick to their Thai food. My Bae and I were lucky enough to be hungry and in the middle of doing our laundry not too far from Chang Thai. We hurried into this little spot due to reviews and being so close to where we were. The staff was very friendly, & we were sat right away. The food was unexpectedly pretty amazing! I ordered the yellow curry (no meat) with the crab fried rice. My reasoning for the low star review is the cleanliness of the establishment and timing to use chemicals as people are still present and dining. The last time I ate here I was choked up all of a sudden by chemicals being not only used near my table, but being sprayed way too close for comfort. My nose filled with the unpleasant scent of the cleaners being used, my eyes began to itch and want to cry. Being in the service industry for many many years, one thing you cannot do is use chemicals in your dining room as your clients are eating. Please wait until your customers have eaten their food before trying to rush closing, and use hazardous chemicals not even 2 feet from their dining experience. read more

We got the crab fried rice, Tom yum chicken soup, and the tofu pad Thai (added spicy). The crab fried rice was overall really good. We gave it a 8.5/10. It could've used a bit more crab. There was crab throughout but only a little, and crab on top. It had really good flavor overall, and came with a sweet chili sauce (which we didn't really like but that's personal preference) and a soy sauce. We ate it without either cause the flavor was great. The Tom yum soup was my favorite. Definitely a 9.5/10. Could've had a little more vegetables, but it had a great flavor. We got the spicy sauce on the side, and we didn't use it cause the flavor was so good. It has a lot of mushrooms, but we loved it. The pad Thai was a 5/10. Not my favorite flavoring, but the spice was good. The veggies, egg, and tofu were all really good, but there was something about the noodles that just wasn't up to par. They were kinda hardening and really stuck together, probably from sitting out? Not too sure, but definitely not the best pad Thai I've had.
