The Green Chive with Shrimp & Pork Dumplings were so flavorful, and the Pork & Bean Sauce Noodles were fantastic. The noodles were excellent-so fresh. We also had Shredded Pig Ear Salad, which was not too spicy. It was one of the best pig ear salads that I've had. This restaurant is super casual with a handful of tables. I have tried nearly every dumpling that this place offers. The best is the chicken with sweet corn dumpling. You get 14 of the little guys, and they're absolutely delicious. 14 dumplings is enough to be a filling meal. Go easy on the soy sauce, but be plentiful with the vinegar. We ordered the Green Chive with shrimp and porl dumplings and Sweet corn with Chicken dumplings. Each order came with 14 dumplings, and all of them were delicious. The wrappers were cooked to the right texture, not too thick, but not too thin that they didn't break when picked up with chopsticks. After a nice walk in the rain at Tilden Park and a visit to the merry go round, we came here for a hot lunch. This cute little restaurant reminds me of the cartoon Kung Fu panda's dad's noodle restaurant. Every little table has steaming bowls of noodles and soups surrounded by families. On a cold day like today, it is pure comfort. I enjoy the wonton soup partly because it's so easy to share with someone. They always bring out two little soup bowls so that you can share. My favorite dumpling is the Chive shrimp pork dumpling because you can really taste the chive and shrimp. I tried their cucumber mushroom salad for the first time today and I really enjoyed the garlic sauce. I actually dipped all my wontons and chive shrimp pork dumplings in this sauce. The cucumber sauce has a nice cilantro garlic flavor that is less strong than making your own vinegar soy sauce for dipping. I appreciate that they also have a clean bathroom here and the service is always very friendly. The owner works here and he keeps everything running smoothly. It is usually the restaurant I go to after a nice walk at Tilden or the Blake garden. It's never too crowded here. Prices are low for what you get. New Dumpling probably has some of my favorite dumplings in the East Bay. They make the dumplings and green onion pancakes fresh to order. So the dough of everything is the perfect chew. The green onion pancake is fragrant and flaky. I like dumplings with thicker skin which can sometimes be too doughy and not cooked through, but that's not the case with these dumplings! Also it baffles my mind how they're able to put tomato egg in a dumpling since it's such a wet filling. But I'm so glad they're able to do it with whatever magic they have. Their black bean noodles are a great option for a more balanced dish with fresh veggies and their handmade noodles. It is on the saltier side though! The restaurant is relatively small with most tables being good for groups of 4 or less. So I wouldn't recommend coming here with a very large group. The dumplings at the top of the menu were our favorite. If I were to come back, I would try a salad or noodles instead of the wonton soup. The dumplings were really good. I had to go back & try more of what New Dumping had to offer. So here I am with my wife again 4 days after our first trip here. We got there at 4:30 pm when they open . We got seated right away by the owners wife. She offered ice water or tea. She came back with both Ha Ha great service. She took our order & within mins we were served our order. Our Green Onion pancakes & Shreded Pigs Ear Salad. Then came our very favorite Beef Noodle Soup came. Everything was very delicious. The prices are great - $13 for 14 dumplings, however I don't think it was worth it. The wonton soup broth was good, but the dumplings IN the soup were flavorless. The chicken was overcooked in the chicken/mushroom dumplings. Both those and the pork & cabbage dumplings had no flavor. I cut them in half, poured a bowl of dipping sauce in, and then it was palatable. Perhaps the chef forgot salt, pepper, garlic and ginger last night? My god. There is a reason why this place is Michelin rated. The menu is small but mighty - and packs massive flavor. We ordered Green Chive With Shrimp And Pork Dumplings, Green Onion Pancake and Beef Noodle Soup. All of which were reasonably priced and very filling. The pancakes were so flavorful and had the best crunchy texture to go alongside their hot steamed dumplings. The dumplings too with amazing flavor and the perfect balanced of soft wrapping over a textured shrimp/pork mix inside. Food preparation is very quick and the staff very attentive to customer needs. I'd say the only thing that may be a buffer is that it is a smaller space, they appear to be busy but it seems a lot of people also order takeout so they didn't seem to have any issues with seating while we were there. It's also on a busy street so prepare to park just a bit further and to walk over. There's plenty to see and do so you're not missing out on anything! I cannot wait to come back! The chive pockets ($7.99) were slightly oily, but still tasty. I would probably pass on the beef noodle soup ($14.99) next time because it was oily and lacking in flavor.
