I'm getting ready to chow down.
Chad P.

Sunday Feb 1 2026 about 12pm 4.7 stars "Honey, I don't want to go to some over priced, trendy, hoity-toity Michelin stared bla bla bla dumpling place. I don't want to go! I know It's going to have a line of customers around the block to wait in and It's going to be hard to find parking. They will be mostly college educated, 'I'm so hip' thinking, left leaning, 'hey dude hear my opinion- it's' the same as yours' blatherers. Some hipsters will have noise making- "Protesters In Training" crybaby children. Honey, I've been to fashionable spots like New Dumpling many times in many cities and disliked the experience each time. I dont want to go!" "OK I'll go" says I to my wife. "But if there is a line at the door we are not staying" --- Oh shoot. There is No line out the door. Damn it! I'm stuck. At least there is plenty of free street parking. They seated us immediately. Nice. This place looks spotless. It's a small, unassuming place. Hmm. Uncrowded with a few tables unoccupied. I'm liking it? The customers look like average Joe's and seem unpretentious. A few have babies that maraculously aren't crying. This New Dumpling is pleasantly quiet. There is no pumped in mood music to shout over. No kitchen timers or cash registers or phones ringing. No staff yelling across the room as in many Chinese restaurants I have been to. My sensitive ears are loving this quietness. Oh no. Here they come. Our followers are showing up. ---- You have heard the saying, "No matter where you go, there you are." Right? With us it is "No matter where we go, soon more customers there are". Somehow customers always follow us and today is no different. The tables fill. It's getting a little noisy but no need for earplugs yet. ---- There are a handful at most waiting at the door for a table. The host is keeping the tables turning over and new customers have maybe a five minute wait. The host is rocking it. Good job. These dumplings, the wonton soup and potato pancakes are a perfect heat, flavorful and light on the stomach. A simple presentation. Mmm, this is good. Wait. Am I actually nodding my head with pleasure with each bite? I've become a foodie geek? Oh shoot. I shouldn't have made the mistake of folding this potato pancakes in half as if it was pizza. Now It's dripping oil all over the place. This food quality and service is a steal for the price. Why is the busboy (who quadruples as the host, waiter and cashier) crashing dishes against each other while bussing the adjacent table? Ouch! Hurting my ears. I'm not loving this. :-( I might come back. Maybe even wait in line. My wife thanks me for finding this spot.

We were craving dumplings and remembered we had been here before, so we decided to try some different flavors. We ordered the Green Chive with shrimp and porl dumplings and Sweet corn with Chicken dumplings. Each order came with 14 dumplings, and all of them were delicious. The wrappers were cooked to the right texture, not too thick, but not too thin that they didn't break when picked up with chopsticks. The fillings were well seasoned and had a comforting, home-cooked feel, making them a great option for a quick meal. I even bought three bags of frozen dumplings to take home. Each bag comes with 18 dumplings, which is a really good value. Highly recommended!

After a nice walk in the rain at Tilden Park and a visit to the merry go round, we came here for a hot lunch. This cute little restaurant reminds me of the cartoon Kung Fu panda's dad's noodle restaurant. Every little table has steaming bowls of noodles and soups surrounded by families. On a cold day like today, it is pure comfort. I enjoy the wonton soup partly because it's so easy to share with someone. They always bring out two little soup bowls so that you can share. My favorite dumpling is the Chive shrimp pork dumpling because you can really taste the chive and shrimp. I tried their cucumber mushroom salad for the first time today and I really enjoyed the garlic sauce. I actually dipped all my wontons and chive shrimp pork dumplings in this sauce. The cucumber sauce has a nice cilantro garlic flavor that is less strong than making your own vinegar soy sauce for dipping. I appreciate that they also have a clean bathroom here and the service is always very friendly. The owner works here and he keeps everything running smoothly. It is usually the restaurant I go to after a nice walk at Tilden or the Blake garden. It's never too crowded here. Prices are low for what you get. I find the food here to be simple but high quality.

I had to go back & try more of what New Dumping had to offer. So here I am with my wife again 4 days after our first trip here. We got there at 4:30 pm when they open . We got seated right away by the owners wife. She offered ice water or tea. She came back with both Ha Ha great service. She took our order & within mins we were served our order. Our Green Onion pancakes & Shreded Pigs Ear Salad. Then came our very favorite Beef Noodle Soup came. Everything was very delicious. I only have to say is that the pancakes were just a bit oily but still very crispy. I dabbed the pancakes with my napkin & that made it better. Once again the food made my nite. Very enjoyable & very nice place to eat you can hear yourself talking & here the chef's cooking! I have to say please everyone come & enjoy this restaurant wonderful food for yourselves. Great Comfort Food. Oh! The value is here too!

No frills dumpling house.$13-14 for 14 pieces of freshly made nainai-like jiaozi. The chives one is the winner!!! Always busy. Get takeaway

This little unassuming place really delivers delicious food! We got there at 5:30 and were the only ones there except for a To Go customer. Then it got more and more busy. By the time we left every table was full. My friend had heard rave reviews plus I looked up what was recommended on Yelp. We ordered the Green Onion Pancakes and Cucumber & Funghi salad. The pancakes were thin and crispy, so good. And the cucumbers were nice and cold, they paired great with the black mushrooms. Then I ordered the Shrimp and Pork Dumplings ($13.99/14) and my friend got the Vegetarian ($13.99/14) I know you're thinking, 14 dumplings! I couldn't possibly eat that many dumplings but let me tell you, they went down easy. We will definitely be back!

Black bean with egg noodles

New Dumpling probably has some of my favorite dumplings in the East Bay. They make the dumplings and green onion pancakes fresh to order. So the dough of everything is the perfect chew. The green onion pancake is fragrant and flaky. I like dumplings with thicker skin which can sometimes be too doughy and not cooked through, but that's not the case with these dumplings! Also it baffles my mind how they're able to put tomato egg in a dumpling since it's such a wet filling. But I'm so glad they're able to do it with whatever magic they have. Their black bean noodles are a great option for a more balanced dish with fresh veggies and their handmade noodles. It is on the saltier side though! The restaurant is relatively small with most tables being good for groups of 4 or less. So I wouldn't recommend coming here with a very large group. Also with the restaurant being on the smaller side, the service is also very efficient and attentive!

I came in and just ordered the vegetable dumplings. Unfortunately you can't order these frozen but you can order them heated or non-cooked. Once I ordered the two cooks started to prepare fresh dumplings. I've never seen them wrap dumplings right after ordering. The dumplings were delicious and continued napa, bok choy, mushrooms. The filling was seasoned well so the dumplings could be enjoyed without soy sauce. I would come back to try some of the other dishes. Small seating area with limited tables.

Delicious dumplings that will give you the feeling of warmth and comfort by the end of your meal. This small mom and pop located on a busy street is truly a hidden gem. We ordered the pig ear salad and it was delicious, the sauce was spicy and sour which was the perfect way to start the meal. We also ordered the beef noodle soup, chicken and corn dumplings, and the pork and Napa cabbage. Surprisingly, the chicken & pork was the favorite item of the meal. The sweetness from the corn was such a nice surprise!!

Fast service! Ordered the green onion pancake- very crispy. Shrimp and pork and chive dumpling and beef noodle soup. They received the Michelin bib in 2021- and for good reason! I like the handmade dumpling wrappers, it's less doughy than Shandong which I prefer. The beef noodle soup was decent, I enjoyed the depth of flavor and the chewiness of the noodle. Looking forward to trying out more of the menu next time.

Wonton soup and Carrot with Beef Dumpling

The food is simply amazing. They are on the Michelin guide for a reason! They deserve a star too! Service is good. This is a cozy place where staff is very helpful. The menu is simple, dumplings, soup, aps. Order and enjoy! Each bite was heaven for me. I got beef and carrot, shrimp dumplings .... The wonton soup ... chive pancakes ... and the bean curd salad all very good. You would be pressed to find a place this flavorful

Well I find Michelin not always accurate but this place rocks! Yeah I love mom and pop family run dumpling joints but this place is pretty innovative with regard to dumplings. No it's not a fussy venue and neither is their wrapping technique or plating. Just get the pork and shrimp dumpling close your eyes... it's mind bending. Loved the seaweed salad. Really different than Japanese seaweed salad. Service is awesome also.

I believe they start dinner at 5:30pm. I do not believe they serve wine or beer, though.

I asked a server and she said NO. But I highly doubt that. For example their cucumber salad - whatever sauce they used, it looked it it has MSG. I could be wrong though. The best is to call them and ask them firmly.

Can the dumplings be served fried?

They serve only boiled or steamed but if you have take home order they can be fried.

Are any of the menu items gluten-free?

I don't think so. All dumplings and pancakes are made from wheat. And many of the side dishes probably have soy sauce and didn't see any notation of gluten free. Unfortunately it's hard to have an authentic dumpling skin which this place has… Read more

I used to go to Daimo regularly 25 years ago when I was living in Larkspur. Recently, I happened to be passing through on Easter Sunday around dinner time, so I stopped by at Daimo and got some takeaway for my wife and I. I want to mention particularly about the "dry scallop and egg white fried rice" that I ordered. My wife was pleasantly surprised with the quality and absolutely loved it. She said the fried rice was perfectly balanced and not greasy at all. I agreed with that conclusion. Happy Wife = Happy Husband. Whoever the chef was working on Easter Sunday, please don't change anything with that fried rice. It was perfectly balanced for us. I conduct a lot of taste testing as a foodie on Hong Kong style food. I also loved the "toss noodle" that I ordered. The noodle broth on the side with chives was authentic and tasty. I will return to Daimo this week and taste test the noodle broth and check for consistency. Once again, to the chef who made the noodle broth on Easter Sunday: please don't change anything with this noodle broth. We are living in Novato now . It is a bit further away from Larkspur, but we will certainly return to Daimo and sample all the other Hong Kong style dishes at very reasonable prices.

It was not that they do anything wrong per se...it just somehow missed the mark on providing culinary satisfaction for me. Too bad because the restaurant itself was a nice space - compact, sleek, and minimalist. Granted I have yet to dine here, my review relates to my takeout experiences, and what happened once I opened the cardboard boxes. The $12 Beef Chow Fun had the requisite thick noodles but seemed a bit light on the meat (photo: https://yelp.to/4Wtu7f7z4O). The $15 Eggplant in Garlic Sauce was quite heavy on the sauce, and the eggplant absorbed the oil fully (photo: https://yelp.to/5wYVsJ798o). When we walked in, no staff was out front, so we stood around a bit before we were seated. The staff quickly disappeared again, and throughout our meal, they were usually disappeared somewhere in the back. If you want something quick like extra utensils or napkins, you may need to wait a bit before someone appears. When ordering, we wanted to try both the Beef Buzz ($14.99) and the Fried Beef Buzz ($15.99). The lady who took our order said they were the same thing, and offered to just give us one half/half order instead of ordering two of essentially the same dish. We agreed to that offer, but she didn't mention anything about how that'll be charged. Of course, we ended up being charged the higher price of $15.99. Not a huge deal, but some better communication there would've been appreciated. We also ordered the Beef Huushuur ($14.99). The Beef Huuchuur arrived first, and it didn't look anything like we expected. The photos from online reviews all looked it'd come in an empanada shape, but it actually came in a large, flat, circular shape. They were all laying against one another in a slanted position, and it made all the oil pool in the bottom of the dish, and the pieces that were covered became very oily and soggy underneath. The parts of the dough that weren't soggy were wonderfully crispy and delicious though. It'd make a significantly better difference if the Huuchuur were placed spread out from each other instead of lying on top of each other to maintain the crispiness on all surfaces. The beef filling was nicely seasoned and well flavored. The Beef Buzz had essentially the same filling as the Huuchuur, but different exterior. Unfortunately, I still have the same opinions of it being way too oily overall. The non-fried pieces sometimes broke apart at the bottom due to the sogginess. The fried version did not have a crispy texture at the bottom either, I'm guessing due to the excess amount of oil on the dish. Again, the flavors were great, but execution and presentation definitely has room for improvement. In summary, this was a great introduction to Mongolian dumplings for me. Very delicious flavors, and I'd love to try Huuchuurs again in the future because I love crispy fried foods with a good texture. However, I'd probably look for a place that goes way more easy on the oil.
