I spent my childhood in Hong Kong for over 16 years, so I am definitely a serious foodie from Hong Kong. I won't waste my stomach space for anything that is less than authentic in taste. I used to go to Daimo regularly 25 years ago when I was living in Larkspur. Recently, I happened to be passing through on Easter Sunday around dinner time, so I stopped by at Daimo and got some takeaway for my wife and I. I want to mention particularly about the "dry scallop and egg white fried rice" that I ordered. My wife was pleasantly surprised with the quality and absolutely loved it. She said the fried rice was perfectly balanced and not greasy at all. I agreed with that conclusion. Happy Wife = Happy Husband. Whoever the chef was working on Easter Sunday, please don't change anything with that fried rice. It was perfectly balanced for us. I conduct a lot of taste testing as a foodie on Hong Kong style food. I also loved the "toss noodle" that I ordered. The noodle broth on the side with chives was authentic and tasty. I will return to Daimo this week and taste test the noodle broth and check for consistency. Once again, to the chef who made the noodle broth on Easter Sunday: please don't change anything with this noodle broth. We are living in Novato now . It is a bit further away from Larkspur, but we will certainly return to Daimo and sample all the other Hong Kong style dishes at very reasonable prices. read more

I like this restaurant because it opens early at 9 AM. One thing I really enjoy about this place is the food--especially the barbecue pork and wonton noodle soup. Both are really good, and the service is great too. Many Chinese restaurants don't open until around noon, so I'm really glad I found this place. Been here a couple times and have always enjoyed each experience. The portions are huge, you could feel a whole family for a good price. We've gotten the duck each time because it's just that good. The restaurant is large inside and there's fish tanks so I assume the ingredients are very fresh. Service is straightforward, order from the sever and your food comes out at whatever pace. A place to bring your family or a big group gathering. I enjoy their salt and pepper pork chops, walnut shrimp, Hong Kong milk tea. It's a bit pricey but the food is good so it's worth it. We only ate inside 3 times, and service was ok. There's usually not much workers. We ordered the following: - fish and thousand year old egg congee was very flavorful and delicious. Work order again - bbq pork noodles with bok choy - just ok and the bbq pork was half fat - steamed bbq pork buns - normal - shrimp rice noodle - good, but noodles were over steamed Overall food was decent since there's not a lot of dim sum locally, but a bit expensive. Daimo is such a gem! My family and I have been going here for years since my childhood. While not much has change ambiance-wise, it is a very spacious restaurant and we went in on a calm Sunday before MLK Day. It didn't feel overly crowded or chaotic. They keep the space very clean too. The menus are riddled with spelling errors and adjusted prices and the menus are a bit tattered, but consider that a green flag--knowing they've been around for a while and not much has changed. We are a big fan of the dim sum, salted fish fried rice, salt & pepper tofu, eggplant, and I always want to try a new version of their chow fun whenever we go. Our most recent visit, I tried their Beef in Satay Sauce over chow fun and I thought it was delicious. I was a little thrown off by the pineapple chunks, but doesn't change the fact I really enjoy the food here. Our server was phenomenal, helping us pack up our leftovers to bring home instead of leaving it to us to do it. Lastly, one thing I will note is the portions feel a lot bigger when you eat at the restaurant vs. doing takeout. While their takeout/to-go is always delicious, if you're feeding a bigger party and want that true essence of fresh, pipping hot Chinese food--come to the restaurant. You won't regret it! read more

Amazing ? Understatement. By far the best Chinese food I have had in a very long time. Everything was delicious and fresh. The pork belly is tender and super seasoned. The deep fried prawns and pork chops were a 10/10. The menu is vast so there's much to try next time. The service was excellent. Yen was super nice. She didn't think I'd like the pork belly but I knew I would and sure did! You can this place has been around for 20+ years but it's still clean. They have the fresh tanks in the back for crab, trout and I think the other is sea bass. I tried not to look too long since the sea bass tank has some big floating unalive fish in it. Came here for New Year's Eve dinner with the parents. Everything we ordered was super yummy! Fish maw soup - piping hot and they even added cilantro when I asked! There was also snow crab in the soup which was delicious. Usually when there is crab in this soup I find it super fishy but at Daimo they nailed it! Lobsters x 2 w/ ginger and scallions - $55 what a bargain. Steamed whole fish - steamed to perfection, not over, not under. Haven't had fish so perfectly steamed in a long time. Steamed surf clam - yummy, and the seasoning was perfect. Steamed yellow chicken - a little salty but very delicious and meat had a good mouthfeel. Sautéed pea shoots w garlic - gotta have the veggies! They gave us a humongous plate!! Soy sauce noodles - again, another huge plate, packed with yellow chive, bean sprouts, and scallions. They also added shiitake mushroom which was new for me, but hey, was yummy an no complaints there! Most of all, our server Amanda, was the nicest lady I ever met at a Chinese restaurant. I've been eating here for many years, I can't believe that I have not reviewed this place! This is your bring your family during the day, and eat late night eats with your friends spot! Daimo is located near 99 Ranch Market, there's a shopping area that is catered for the Asian community, lots of different restaurants, bakeries, etc. There is lots of parking, but it gets packed. This place is open late, and is legit if you want big portions. Since it is in Richmond area, I would just be careful at night, especially in the late hours. Now on to the food! My fav is BBQ pork over rice, BBQ duck over rice, we tried everything, Wonton Soup! Their dumplings is made fresh and has shrimp in it with beef. We had their noodles, and dumplings! This is a temporary review until they resolve a problem with DoorDash, etc.. There is no way to order white rice with your meal on any of the food delivery services. So we have stopped ordering from them because of that. I am hoping that the business sees this, because I don't know that there's any other way to get this through. We really love this place, and have been eating there for years, but sometimes we want delivery, and if you cannot order white rice with your Chinese food, that is a problem. read more

Daimo has been around for decades. My family has come off and on since its grand opening. Obviously back then it was the best, fanciest, most expensive Chinese restaurant in the Richmond area. Since then, nothing really has been done to update the exterior, interior dining room or the restrooms (which are beyond need of a deep cleaning refresh). The host/hostess area lacks a person at least during the day and probably the evening since it's fillled with empty boxes tossed about. That's not very inviting upon entrance. I guess it's just find a table and sit down. Recently I've been getting takeout. Tip: Order from Yelp or Grubhub menu and pay a few dollars more than calling or ordering in person. My dad swears by their jook / congee which they serve in the morning. He likes the Preserved Duck Egg with Salted Pork Congee. I like congee thicker but who's going to argue with a 92 year old born in San Francisco Chinatown? It is tasty and satisfying. Last time I ordered Roast Duck Noodle Soup. The duck was excellent. Rendered right, crispy skin, not too fatty, good meat on the bones The noodles were cooked right and the broth was fine. It had a generous portion of duck. My aunt's favorite is Shrimp Wonton Soup. She requests the same every time! A 93 year old's comfort food. While no longer the best, fanciest or expensive Chinese restaurant here, Daimo's food has been consistently better lately, and that's an improvement from a few years ago. We always stop by this place when we are in Richmond area. They have a lot of Chinese food to choose from, including Dim Sum! I noticed they now have ramen on the menu as well but I didn't try any. We shared egg custard, bbq pork tossed noodle, shumai, congee, poached gai lan with oyster sauce, pan fried shrimp and chive dumpling, and hot and sour soup. Everything was really good! Service was okay. Our server seems rushed all the time even though the restaurant was not busy. The bathroom was a bit dirty and smelled. It has actually been that way for a long time. Came to the restaurant around 9:15am to get dim sum on a random Thursday morning. Most dim sum places open around 11am, and we were just too hungry to wait. I had never been before but had gone to Ranch 99 so much, just did not know this place served dim sun. I read some old negative reviews about this places, but I didn't experience anything of those things or honestly anything negative. The employees there were wonderful and were quick to tend to our needs. It's not a big dim sum menu, especially because they also serve other plated food options. But honestly they have the basic dim sum wants which works for our family. My kids mainly eat ha gau (shrimp dumplings) and turnip cake. Me and my partner really enjoyed the rest of our food, especially the duck, their shrimp rice roll, and the shrimp and chive dumpling. They serve some of the dumplings in the metal trays, which I don't see anymore now a days. The metal trays at Daimo reminded me of my best friend in high school who took me her family's favorite dim sum restaurant that was small with no sign and hidden away in SF Chinatown. This is one of my family's favorite go-to-restaurants for sui gow and won ton dumpling soup. The won ton dumplings are stuffed with plump, succulent pieces of shrimp. The fresh string beans with strips of pork had just the right kick of spiciness and crunchiness to the beans. We also ordered 1/2 a roast duck and chicken chow mein with noodles, chicken, bean sprouts and carrots. Everything was delicious! Great value. I love coming here for breakfast or brunch on weekdays. They have a breakfast special menu for such great deals. My kids like the limited dim sum selection here. Their dim sum offering is only a couple of choices, and we like the pan fried chive dumpling, siu mai, steamed rice noodles, steamed custard bun, congee, and stir fried noodle. I am always surprised there's not more business here. I think the food is average and the price is pretty good. Convenient parking right in the shopping center. Have been coming here off and on for about 20 years. They were always really good, then hit a bad spot for a few years, and now they are good again, in my opinion. They have late hours, so it's a good place to stop if you're craving Chinese food after an airport run. If the place is not crowded, you will get decent service. The guy who is currently there most of the time as a cashier is very friendly and talkative. I have gotten mostly takeout lately. They have very good congee and lots of different combinations of it. They have quite an extensive menu. I got their roast duck which to me was better than the ones in Chinatown! I also found they have noodles with slivered green onions and ginger like in Hong Kong! Plus, sometimes you're just in the mood for this kind of Chinese food and sometimes you don't feel like going in to the mall itself. They have good wonton soup and good duck. Came here for dinner after a long travel day. We ordered 4 things which came pretty fast. The lady at the end who gave us our check was super nice and loved the complementary green bean dessert. Wonton was ok, nothing too good about it. I would rate this a 3/5 Beef with egg sauce was good. My girls love this one and finished the gigantic bowl of noodles. Beef was not tough to eat and it wasn't too salty. I would definitely eat this again. 4/5 Black bean noodle was so so. Bottom was noodles and the top was covered by a thick layer of onions with a little bit of beef. Didn't like this one as much since it left my mouth with a bit of some sourness for some reason. Either the sauce they used was bad or the noodles was bad?? Not too sure but it wasn't good. Too much onions in my opinion and I don't like raw onions so this is definitely a no for me. I would rate this 2.5/5 Beef noodle soup was bad. I didn't like how the soup taste like water with msg only. The noodles has that soapy taste and the beef was tough to eat. Solid Cantonese cuisine with a simple staff, and a busy kitchen. Hit and miss, though you'll get better service by tipping well and being a semi-regular customer than a one off patron. Popular for breakfasts because it's one of the few varied Congee places outside of Oakland Chinatown that's open for breakfast to dinner and has easy parking. Preserved duck egg & salted pork congee was great, with fresh Fan Tuan and a portion of roasted peanuts typical of Canton-style sticky rice. Fried fish filet (or shrimp) with chili, salt and (jalapeno) pepper was good and crisp, served with a standard sweet and sour sauce, but may be better with a side of XO sauce instead. Braised tofu with pork is like a Mapo tofu without chili and soy sauce, and quite comforting served over rice or pan fried noodles. Soy sauce chicken was fresh and juicy without fault. Portions here are pretty big so plan on leftovers, or plan ahead. When busy, it can feel like a banquet house, often too busy to enjoy a leisurely meal. But the feel is like a typical Southern Chinese dim sum teahouse with the usually noiseand busyness all around you. Convenient to get to but try to plan for a small staff accordingly. And if you want better service, plan to tip generously and be recognized for your generosity. That's all we did and we're rewarded accordingly every visit. I come here every few weeks. It's located across from the Pacific East Mall, so it's a great place to have lunch and then go grocery shopping/walking around the mall. The service is okay. The servers are sometimes not very attentive, but you just need to get their attention. The actual place is also not the cleanest/maybe it's a bit run down, but we don't really mind. Every time I come here, it's for their lunch special. You get their daily soup, one entree, a side of rice, and a drink, They don't serve it on holidays, by the way. The food is always really good! We've been coming here for over 15 years and the food continues to be consistent and good. It's what you would expect to encounter at a Chinese restaurant where the staff all speak Cantonese and are slightly rude and short with you. I speak Cantonese so I'm used to it. Some of the staff is actually rather friendly. On my last dinner visit, the restaurant wasn't too busy on a Monday night. There were just a few tables plus our party of seven. They did have some takeout orders. We had Eggplant, some sort of Tofu and Vegetable Soup, Beef Stew, Beef Chow Fun, Steamed BBQ Pork Buns, Chicken Feet, Green Onion and Ginger Crab, and a Vermicelli dish. My dad loves the Tofu and Vegetable Soup so we always get that. Everything else was tasty and were good portions. The Eggplant was not oily like it is at some places and it wasn't mushy.
