There was one person working the counter when I arrived, ordering was super simple and she was able to answer all my questions. Only took about 20 minutes for the food to come out, and she offered me a free dessert while I waited. Upon bringing the food home, the pad see ew especially hit the spot, along with the fried egg rolls (which were huge!). Had a great experience dining here! Came on a cold Tuesday evening and it wasn't too crowded around 6pm. The restaurant is a decent size, with good lighting, and it's not too loud in there. I noticed that they have several regulars that coming in throughout the night picking up to-go orders. The owner seems very sweet to their customers, knowing everyone by name. I tried the nam khao, chicken satay, yellow curry with tofu, and pad thai. The nam khao with medium spicy is good. It wasn't super spicy to me, I could taste it a little bit. Next time I will probably go up a spice level. It did have more of a citrus/acidic flavor to it than other nam khao I've tried, but it might be my new favorite. The added flavoring made it taste that much better. You can't go wrong with chicken satay, and it was so tender, easily fell off the skewer when it was bitten into. The yellow curry flavoring was delicious as well. I do feel that the veggies ratio outweighed the tofu. But it was still good. The pad thai was delicious! Authentic tasting Lao and Thai food. One of the few restaurants that get the flavor and spice in balance. When you ask for "medium spice" it's got a reasonable kick so they don't blow you out and you can actually taste the great flavors of the basil and other ingredients. At the same time they don't load up with sweetness to make up for the heat not being overwhelming. Great balance. I have passed this spot a few times and knew I wanted to try it someday. That someday came when I was in the area for Formosa Chocolate's Popup and it was a nice stroll to this spot for lunch. It seems to be a popular local's spot as a few customers came in commenting that they were so happy they were back. A first timer myself wasn't sure what that meant only to discover afterwards that they sustained damages due to this year's atmospheric rivers. Can totally relate as my house also sustained some storm related damages as well. Every dish we had was so flavorful and they were so accommodating to dietary restrictions and spice levels. When you are made to feel like family, it is no wonder they have so many repeat customers who care about their well being as well. From the fish cakes (Tod Mun) to the extremely addictive Lao Special Nam Khao of seasoned pork, crispy rice, peanuts, dried red peppers , fresh mint, and cilantro and the Red Curry Salmon that had a perfect amount of kick without it being too spicy, I could not resist getting food to go for my parents as well. read more

It seems like she really likes her job and the customers. Thai iced coffee was better than the Thai iced tea. Started off with a' Special' appetizer of salmon belly salad. I'm no salad fan but this was good. I like the dressing; forget the salmon belly. Then the wings appetizer... best dish of all of them. Crispy, sweet and just the right tang and spice. Pad see ew is my next favorite. Think stir fried noodles with veggies and beef. Yellow curry with chicken is the good old standby. You can't go wrong. The only dish I did not like was the eggplant and tofu. The eggplant was overbooked which made it fall apart, yet the outer sun was really tough. I love Thai food and I love Lao Thai. The woman who greets us at the door takes our order and serves us, is exceptional in her customer service skills. She always treats us like we are long-lost family members and we've just come home. I honestly feel bad that I don't know her name but next time I go there, I will ask her. The food is good and their knowledge of gluten free food is good, and their gluten free options are plenty. It's frustrating when I go to a restaurant and they don't have many gluten free options but here they do. They can make my favorite noodle dishes gluten free and they are so delicious. I don't like it when I go to a restaurant and their sense of gluten free means that they take all the flavor out. Here that is absolutely not the case. Let me preface this by saying that the food was extremely authentic and delicious and the waitress was incredibly kind and helpful and warm. Her service/attitude and the food were the best part of this place. For adventurous folks that don't mind different fishy flavors, I'd recommend the papaya salad. For everyone in general, the lao sausage and pad kee mao were quite good (forgot to take a pic). Beef noodle soup was ok. Duck curry with pineapple was good too. Parking can be found in the neighborhood surrounding the area. My god this place was pricey though for the portions. I'll have to check the bill later but I did feel a little bad knowing how much it was at the end. But what made me truly feel gypped was the fact that they put suggested tipping amounts AFTER tax. Yes, if you paid 100 pre-tax, and then add 10% from CA tax or whatever, then the suggested 20% would be 20% of 110, NOT 100. At the end of the day it's a few dollars but it feels very dishonest so I can't give anything more than 3 stars. Unfortunate. 6/10, would come once in a blue moon and only recommend to a friend who doesn't mind blowing money slightly higher than avg. === The response from the owner was extremely professional and non-aggressive, so I'm bumping this to 4 stars to help with their ratings. read more

I was craving soup on a sick day and Tom Ka Gai was the only thing that was going to satisfy me, but as a vegetarian, it's difficult to find a place that will make it without fish sauce. I was happy to discover that Lao Thai Kitchen has ample vegan variations on their menu. I ordered everything "medium spicy" and the results were quite varied, so be prepared for that. Tom Ka flavor and ingredients were delicious and just what I needed, but I would classify it as "mild". The vegan version of the Thai Green Papaya Salad was very spicy (had to take a bite of plain rice to recover) but also delicious and fresh. We also ordered a red tofu and green chicken curry and Pad Thai. Everything was great. I remember eating here a million years ago and the restaurant itself is very intimate, only a handful of tables. Ordering takeout is by phone call only, which I respect since it's a mom & pop establishment, so be patient with calling (multiple times to get through) and waiting for your food to be prepared. read more

This place has hands down the best service , and some of the best food, in the Bay Area. I eat here all the time and everything is delicious. Some of my favs are: red seafood curry, LTK eggplant, and fried banana with ice cream. There have been many Mondays when I want to go here and am sad that it's closed. Lao Thai was on the menu before Covid hit but we never got to eat here. It's a small space that in earlier times would have been buzzing but as a takeout it's the best Thai in the East Bay by a country mile. The silver noodles are absolutely amazing, we've tried them with tofu and beef and it's well worth it. Superb sauce, and goes very well with brown rice. If you can get the asparagus stir fry do it. Your pee will smell a bit bitter but your taste buds will thank you. The fish cakes are very good indeed, worth the price as you get a great sauce and they aren't deep-fried to hell and back like some local restaurants. Good spring rolls too, but they're almost a meal in themselves. The Pad Kee Mao is lovely, Pa Ma Kuer is also fantastic if you like things spicy. Above all the crew there are spot on. This was such a cute little Lao and Thai fusion restaurant. Probably one of the best Lao/Thai restaurant I've been to. I came with a party of four and there was no wait time. We ordered 4 Thai ice tea, papaya salad Thai spicy, Nam khao, Lao sausages, 2 jeow bong (chili paste), Pad kee mao beef, Pineapple fried rice , Pa Nang curry with beef, 2 sticky rice, and Khao poon with pork. Everything that we ordered tasted so flavorful and delicious. Every bite was packed with flavor. Every dish that came out was still hot and it tasted homemade.The jeow bong paste tasted spicy, sweet, and salty. Yummy and mouth watering. The Thai ice tea, oh wow it was soo good. They got the sweetness just right! It's hard to pick which dish was the best. But if I had to choose it would probably be the Nam khao. This dish tasted light, flavorful, and so refreshing. My friend was in town and wanted to eat some Thai food so we decided to eat here. I got a Thai iced coffee and we shared some soup and pad ke mao. The food was good but what I was impressed with was their service. Everyone that was working tonight checked on us to make sure we were doing alright and were all so friendly. Pros: - some of the friendliest staff members around. Such great service! I had left my umbrella behind and our waitress ran out of the restaurant to find me and give me back my umbrella -their iced coffee was so good! Updating my previous very positive review just to add: we love this restaurant more each time we come. That's all you REALLY need to know - great service, great food. I wanted to add one or two stories on though to just further illustrate why we love this place. We've come to learn that Boua, the main server who's always wearing a smile, seems to remember even minor details from past interactions with regulars, to a sincerely impressive degree. In one instance, following my previous 5-star review, she immediately greeted me as "rice guy" (I eat a lot of white rice lol) and brought us a Beer Lao on the house. Another evening we came in and the food took a bit longer than usual (this is not really a knock; every other time we've been here the food comes out FAST). Boua was super apologetic but we weren't bothered by the longer wait. The next time we came in (maybe 6 weeks later?) one of the first things she tells us is, "I'll make sure it's faster than last time." This is a level of personalized detail I've only experienced a very very small number of times in my life at restaurants and other businesses. It's not like we're here every weekend. We try to come in once every month or two when we're feeling like Thai is up in the rotation. Truth is, the food and portions here are so worthwhile that we'd STILL eat here if Boua were totally rude to us, but it's the icing on the cake that makes us look forward to coming in that much more, knowing we'll be served by a lovely, jolly person in Boua. I've eaten here twice and it is now me and my girlfriends go to thai place! The lady that took my order was super sweet and friendly, their food is soooo fresh and tastes fantastic! Their peanut sauce is perfectly mixed and the curry puffs are great!! The service is amazing and fast (especially for how good the food is) and the interior of the restaurant is cozy, relaxing and very pretty. Yum! Z. and I picked up dinner here and I got the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) which is a really good deal for dinner because the portion size is generous for $11.95 (chicken or pork). The sauce was well-mixed and well-coated on the noodles so it truly felt like drunken noodle dish! If you are looking for a standard, delicious Thai dinner, the pad kee mao here can do that for you. There is nothing fancy or extra about this order -- you'll get what you expect at a good deal. Docking off a half point (but rounding up) because there could have been more bell peppers, bean sprouts, protein, and onion. There just seemed to be a lot more carb than other ingredients. Her welcoming energy is always appreciated, and she treats every single one of her customers as if they are family. This place has my favorite wings in the whole entire world. The LTK wings are to die for! They are fried twice and prepared with so much love. I bring them to any pot luck that I am a part of, and they are always a hit! The yellow curry chicken is delicious. And my partner loves getting this ginger soup, may or may not be on the menu? But Boua knows exactly what to do when I call for it.
