What a surprise! I stopped going to this restaurant before the pandemic hit. I had disappointment after disappointment, both in house and to go. Tonight I was craving good local chinese food and decided to give this place another try. I don't know why. I always felt bad with each previous sad serving. It was terrific! The order was ready on time. The containers were bulging with food when before the servings were getting skimpier and skimpier. The chow fun was not swimming in oil. The cumin lamb was no longer 90% peppers but a generous portion of lamb and a good ratio of peppers. The crispy chicken appetizer was delightful. The dry green beans had a snap. It was such a complete reversal from the last experiences that I'm glad I went back and we will certainly continue to satisfy our Szechuan cravings with this place. I had braced myself expecting in these dire times with many food places closing or gasping with high costs, a less than stellar experience. What a wonderful surprise! read more

We used to love this place the first years they were open. Fantastic food, great service. There was a dish we used to get, fish fillet with tofu, that was amazing. However, the last time we got it it had become a watery affair loaded with bean sprouts. The dish was only a shell of its former self, so we never went back. We had lunch on the last Sunday of 2025. Ten of us sat down to a large round table and ordered the equivalent of one dish for everyone. Lunch was family style and we all got a little bit of everything. We had hot and sour soup, Mongolian lamb, eggplant, chow mein, braised duck, steamed and fried rice, and more. Immediate service. So nice and friendly. The building is older but fun. The food is simply amazing. For starters they brought hot tea and pickled vegetables to the table. The pickle was delicious and unlike others I have had before. Then they brought the dumplings in chili sauce which was listed as dim sum but the portion was large and also included cabbage. They were great. Next came my ma po tofu which may have been the best I have ever had. The valence of male and other spices was perfect. The portion was so generous (9 inch pie pan filled to the brim). Next was the chopped chicken with mixed chilies which we could not stop eating. Then came the tan tan noodles and noodles with spattered oil. Both were delicious. The valence of spice and male perfect and all the flavors well developed. I can't understand why this place is not rated as a perfect 5 stars. The food was great and the staff attentive. We were there on Saturday night and no problem getting seated. Wow, wow, wow. What an absolute delight. I haven't had a meal at this restaurant in what seems like forever, but with new ownership, Sichuan Style Restaurant on Solano Ave. is most def making a splash and name for themselves. The restaurant itself is incredibly spacious, and on a Sunday, was also very lively which is always nice to see ~ people out and enjoying themselves & their time off with family and friends over a meal. Food-wise, we ordered potstickers to start, vegetable fried rice, and sizzling black pepper beef. We also ordered a few beers, and to note, wine is also served. Everything was so delicious and even though the restaurant was crowded, that didn't interrupt with service. The potstickers were juicy and crisp, the fried rice was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and I'm still thinking about the black pepper beef. The presentation of the rice and main dish were notable (see pics) and the beef came out truly sizzling with onions, a nice char, and a sauce that was truly memorable. No wonder this spot received a mention in the Michelin Guide. There's plenty of metered parking on Solano, although may have to do a few laps pending the time of day you come. Sichuan Style also has a lunch menu, a sign outside promoting happy hour, and daily specials. The menu is so expansive, there's truly something for everyone. My friend is a regular at this place and she took me here for dinner. I let her take the reins and she ordered three classic dishes that were extremely delicious with rice. We got chili oil chicken ("Sichuan mouth-watering chicken"), stir-fried beef, and sauteed water spinach (ong choy). I literally could not stop eating. Everything was so good, especially with rice. Nothing was overwhelmingly spicy or pungent, and the flavors of each dish complemented each other perfectly. Service was excellent. The good here is delicious, the beef on the broccoli & beef was so tender, just like the first time we ordered a few weeks ago, the picture in this post is from their bowl of Wonton's in a spicy broth, it was delicious, this was one of the dishes they spiced it down for me, it still had a wonderful flavorful amount of spice , my wife proceeded to order other dishes that excited her, midway through her meal she said, "I'm sweating, this is so good", the inside of the restaurant is clean, & the service is excellent . The server was nice and accommodating. I absolutely love spicy food, and this place did not disappoint. Usually, I order the spicy fish filet as a baseline dish to try, and then add some other meat dishes that I'm craving. + Spicy Szechuan Water Boiled Fish: delicious - piping hot with tons of garlic/chilies/green onions on top. I'm salivating just thinking about it, to be honest. Great portion size, and quite authentic in terms of spice levels/numbing/etc. $17.95 + Hunan Stir-Fried Beef: Beef was a tad chewy in some pieces, but for the most part it was delicious and tenderized. Super spicy as well with the green chilies and also came piping hot. $18.95 +Twice cooked bacon cut pork: Classic dish, also very authentic with the sliced green onions, bean curd, and fatty pork. Delicious. $14.95 Rice per bowl $2: We ordered two bowls but as you can see in the photos she just consolidated it and gave us a whole rice bowl. You need tons of rice for these dishes, I definitely ate way too much. Food from the Sichuan Provence is my favorite of all Chinese and I found the dishes here to be outstanding. They kindly accommodated my request for no MSG as I swell up like a Rose Bowl parade balloon and my joints hurt like hell when I eat it. This is a problem for a person who practically lives for Asian cuisine. Their facade is fantastic. Inside was clean and comfortable. I was seated in the windows at a two top as I was alone and it was perfect. I had tea, dry fried green beans and 1000 pepper chicken. Their Chinese peppercorn was the best I've ever had. I was looking for some spicy food to spice up my soul and Sichuan Style Restaurant's dishes definitely did that. We were feeling lazy and decided to order to-go. We got the BBQ Pork, Chongqing Chicken and the Dry Sautéed Beef. The bbq was perfectly cooked, flavorful and had just the right sweetness to it. The chongqing chicken was soo spicy but I totally enjoyed it! My only issue was there was so much more chilis than chicken so it was hard sifting through to get some chicken. The chicken was crispy and seasoned well, the chilis added such a nice kick to it. The dry sautéed beef was also very spicy but it was more of a slow burn. Again, flavors were on point and the dish was seasoned well. This dish didn't have as many chilis as the chicken dish but it was still fairly spicy, which I thoroughly enjoyed! It was packed with flavor, you could definitely taste the cumin and it really made the dish pop. Portions were really great, more than enough for two people. I often times will forget to eat in the summer because I usually associate dinner with nightfall so having this place open until 9:30pm is perfect. It was only me, so I had the pickled long bean with pork. It's a little salty on its own but with rice it's great. I cannot testify on its authenticity but I will say it was tasty and the wait was minimal once I ordered. The portions are family style so I had enough for another couple of meals. Longtime Patrons Disappointed by Decline We've been dining at this Sishuancrestaurant since 2003, back when Albert owned the place and the food was consistently flavorful and fresh. We've continued to support the restaurant through its changes in ownership -- even as quality began to slip -- because we believe in supporting local businesses and have a long history here. Unfortunately, the experience has steadily declined, especially over the past few years. The current owner appears to be a one-man show -- host, server, cashier, and possibly even cook. Service is just okay, but strangely impersonal for longtime customers. Despite coming in at least once a month, he still greets us with "First time?" every single visit. We've tried a range of dishes over the years. We used to order the Mongolian beef, but had to switch after the meat became consistently tough and gristly, overwhelmed by onions and peppers, and less beef. We moved on to beef with broccoli, which was passable but still suffered from poor meat quality. Then we settled on sesame chicken, which was decent for a while, but now even that dish has declined -- the chicken is dried out, tough, rubbery, and tastes like it's been microwaved rather than freshly prepared. The green beans were thick and undercooked, and the chow mein was just okay. On our most recent visit yesterday, we arrived at 2:35 p.m., just five minutes past the end of the lunch menu hours (which end at 2:30). When I tried to place an order, the owner immediately began yelling, "No! You can't order! Too late! No lunch special!" I wasn't even asking for the lunch special -- I simply wanted to order sesame chicken -- but he seemed more concerned with ensuring we'd be charged the higher price than actually helping us place our order. To top it off, when we asked to take leftovers home, he insisted on wrapping them himself -- cramming rice, green beans, and chicken into a single small container, smashing the lid closed, apparently to save on takeout packaging. It came off as penny-pinching and inconsiderate. It's disappointing to write this, especially after supporting this restaurant for over 20 years. But the food quality, customer service, and overall experience just aren't what they used to be. Sadly, we'll be taking a break from this place for now. read more
