What's really nice about the place is that it's open pretty late and offers a full menu. I often times will forget to eat in the summer because I usually associate dinner with nightfall so having this place open until 9:30pm is perfect. It was only me, so I had the pickled long bean with pork. It's a little salty on its own but with rice it's great. I cannot testify on its authenticity but I will say it was tasty and the wait was minimal once I ordered. The portions are family style so I had enough for another couple of meals. They also serve spicy pickled cabbage to start. Enjoy! read more

Enjoyed a CNY lunch with the family. The family ordered an array of dishes from winter melon bone soup to Mapo Tofu....yes a must for my American vegetarian Husband. He said it's the best version he's ever had. It's a spacious restaurant and it looks recently opened. Please give this authentic restaurant a try. They have some traditional Sichuan dishes worth venture out for. read more

What a greasy spoon this place is!!! There was enough oil in each of the dishes ordered to make French fries!!! I don't understand why the excess of oil to make what I consider some easy food. It is all the more reason for me to continue to learn to make the dishes I enjoy so that I don't have to contend with so MUCH OIL!!!! It's ridiculous and a waste the amount that was in the three dishes ordered. I will not order from here again. read more

This is the best Szechuan restaurant in the bay HANDS DOWN!!!!! Their sliced ribeye/lamb in gold broth with rice is one of the best meals I've ever had. I've ordered this for takeout countless times and it never disappoints. The service is great -- the owner and servers are always kind. It's a spacious space with plenty of seating too. Longtime Patrons Disappointed by Decline We've been dining at this Sishuancrestaurant since 2003, back when Albert owned the place and the food was consistently flavorful and fresh. We've continued to support the restaurant through its changes in ownership -- even as quality began to slip -- because we believe in supporting local businesses and have a long history here. Unfortunately, the experience has steadily declined, especially over the past few years. The current owner appears to be a one-man show -- host, server, cashier, and possibly even cook. Service is just okay, but strangely impersonal for longtime customers. Despite coming in at least once a month, he still greets us with "First time?" every single visit. We've tried a range of dishes over the years. We used to order the Mongolian beef, but had to switch after the meat became consistently tough and gristly, overwhelmed by onions and peppers, and less beef. We moved on to beef with broccoli, which was passable but still suffered from poor meat quality. Then we settled on sesame chicken, which was decent for a while, but now even that dish has declined -- the chicken is dried out, tough, rubbery, and tastes like it's been microwaved rather than freshly prepared. The green beans were thick and undercooked, and the chow mein was just okay. On our most recent visit yesterday, we arrived at 2:35 p.m., just five minutes past the end of the lunch menu hours (which end at 2:30). When I tried to place an order, the owner immediately began yelling, "No! You can't order! Too late! No lunch special!" I wasn't even asking for the lunch special -- I simply wanted to order sesame chicken -- but he seemed more concerned with ensuring we'd be charged the higher price than actually helping us place our order. To top it off, when we asked to take leftovers home, he insisted on wrapping them himself -- cramming rice, green beans, and chicken into a single small container, smashing the lid closed, apparently to save on takeout packaging. It came off as penny-pinching and inconsiderate. It's disappointing to write this, especially after supporting this restaurant for over 20 years. But the food quality, customer service, and overall experience just aren't what they used to be. Sadly, we'll be taking a break from this place for now. read more

Located in a nice area in Albany. My group and I found the food, portion size, and price to be very great for a nice restaurant. We all loved the food and especially the Spicy Sichuan Tofu W/Fish. -Home Style Five Spice Braised Pork Shoulder 5/5. Texture, taste, and presentation was beautiful and is super juicy and saucy. -Cumin Lamb 4.5/5. Chewy, not gamey taste at all, and ample flavor. -Twice Cooked Bacon Cut Pork 4/5. It was good, thin cut pork that was nice, albeit a bit greasy but that is the style of the dish and have no complaints. -Spicy Szechuan Tofu W/Fish 6/5. Yes I say 6/5 because it was just that darn good haha. Soft, and extremely delicious and everyone in the group scarfed it down instantly. -Chow Mein w/Beef 4.5/5. It was really tasty and I would get it again. Only gripe is that it's smaller portion for the price we paid for, but the taste was one of the best beef chow mein's I've had. Overall, for 5 dishes and after tax and tip, it came down to roughly $33/person and that is a fair price for good food that was generous portions and decent service. Not expensive at all for what we had. I'd recommend this place if you want good, well priced, Sichuan food in the area! read more

I discovered this restaurant a few years ago, and would order the traditional favorites: Fish Fillet (D2), Mongolian lamb (D6), and Chicken Chow Mein (D8). However, recently, I went on a Sunday and the person I went with decided to be adventurous, ordered the House Special Beef with Cumin (F3); Steamed Fish Fillet with soft tofu (H18); and House Special Duck (G2). It was as one guest said, a long wait, but well worth it. I asked who the cook was that day since on previous occasions when I ordered the Fish Fillet, it has been prepared differently on separate occasions, as has the chow mein. The maitre 'd said was the owner! I went on a Sunday. So those reviewers who said the food was average or nothing special ought to go back when the owner is chef. read more

(4.5 out of 5) Food. The food here is great, very authentic flavoring and they aren't shy with the seasoning. Some of the best chili oil I've ever had. Every item we got was very good, amazing service, and the ambiance is very nice, I know that most people look for that 3.5 star sweet spot with their Chinese food but let this review be a outlier because the food here is great. The only reason it's not 5/5 and I said 4.5 is because I asked for the spiciest level and they gave me medium. (I think they didn't believe I could handle it). But do note this places medium is = to a extra spicy somewhere else so do keep in mind. When you come by tell them Rothyy sent you! read more

Food was okay, nothing special. The worst part was that another customer was playing loud baby music the whole time. I asked the staff to speak with them, and have turned lower or off. Good spice without losing flavor. Large variety of choices even for those who don't like spicy food. The braised pork is a tender non-spicy balance to pair with a hotter dish, but also great on its own. So glad to have found a replacement for the Sichuan restaurant that closed in El Cerrito and they even have Sichuan style kimchee. Good size space, but beware of sitting downstream from the main door as the wind can get pretty chilly. Especially if spicy food causes you to sweat. Nice friendly staff. read more

Authentic sichuan food with very reasonable price! Great value considering the portion, the price and the taste. For three of us, we only finished half of what we ordered (three dishes) and had plenty to take home for another meal. Also, the spice level was very manageable, enough to give you the kick but not too much to make you regret having it next day. The menu selection was extensive and can be a little overwhelming if you don't know sichuan food well. We came for an early weekend lunch and the restaurant was pretty slow. The indoor was quite spacious and the staff were friendly. read more

I had lunch here with my family and ordered the "Today Market's Fish." Before placing the order, I confirmed with the waitress that it would be made with live fish. Very disappointing and not honest. read more

Some of the best Sichuan food in the bay! My mom whos from Sichuan approves and deems this place to be authentic. Ordered a ton of food (probably about 8 dishes) and each and every dish was unbelievably tasty. This place is big on bold, spicy flavors with a variety of spice blends. Every bite is addicting to eat especially with some rice! I only took a picture of two dishes but unfortunately do not know the names as I didn't order them. Another plus is that the service is great! Such attentive staff that give good recommendations. They helped us pack our food to go which is much appreciated. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed. read more

Tried this place for the first time as in the area and Yelp review , upon checking in on Yelp there was a lunch combo coupon available for check ins although when showed to the waiter before placing order I was advised they do not accept Yelp coupon. I preceded with placing my order wanting to give this place a try but it fell flat , old shredded lettuce on plate , mushy egg roll filling, not the flavor I was used to or expecting it was a miss for me . I also felt ignored, no check in as other tables around me received , maybe it was just a busy day . read more

I had the braised duck and the kung pao chicken. Both were so full of flavors that made my night so well. Definitely coming back

Fantastically spicy Sichuan food. All our dishes were bathed in the fiery red of Sichuan chili peppers. The beef with fresh tofu was perfect. The silky coolness of the tofu married beautifully with the heat of the chili. The Dan Dan noodles was more like a soup but still delicious, with its hand pulled noodles. And the chili fried chicken reminded me of Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Crispy with plenty of salt, pepper and spice to add that extra kick. Service was spot on too. I'd highly recommend this spot if you're looking for some delicious, spicy Chinese food. Just be prepared to sweat! read more

I only ordered the Chongqing Chili Pepper Chicken to-go and it was sooooooo hot and spicy. My eyes are watering even thinking about it. The unbelievable spiciness seemed to cancel out any of the flavor. Seriously, the box was nearly 1/4 filled with inedible red chili's. After the first bite, my entire mouth started to burn, and no, it wasn't the sinus-cleaning heat. I ate about 1/3 of the box and then waved the white flag. I didn't have any feeling in my mouth for a while. I then removed the chili peppers and saved the chicken for later (it was just chili peppers and small chicken pieces). After eating a few bites as a snack the next day, I realized the spice hadn't calmed down, and I quit. The Chongqing Chili Pepper Chicken had finally won a complete victory! My friends did enjoy their non-chili pepper orders, like: beef and broccoli, potstickers, soup, etc. read more

So, hmmm. I've mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, Sichuan Style rests on the premises of the late, semi-great King Tsin restaurant, which was a staple of my youth growing up. I will admit that institution went down hill seriously in the 90's and 00's: the last time I ate there was about 12 years ago and it was clearly in its death throes. SS is certainly a great improvement over what was left of a once-great restaurant. The interior of the restaurant shows remains of its former incarnation here and there (mostly the panels on the east wall), but is far more open and airy than before. While pleasant, it feels a bit unfinished--as if a decorator got started on the place and then suddenly quit. That apart, SS boasts a pretty broad menu, with a considerable number of offerings (not all of them szechuan, as we used to say in my youth). Most of them are quite well done. The sauce can be a bit heavy and gloppy at times; sichuan should have some zing in AND have a medium-thick sauces. But in general the food is of very good quality and the spices are well-balanced. The pork dishes in particular are well-done. I'm not as familiar with the Chinese offerings of the East Bay as I once was, but I would say overall, it could compete comfortably with other restaurants in the area. That they also usually have specials that seem to cater to a more Chinese clientele is perhaps an indication of that as well. Is it a spot I would like to sit and dine? Maybe not, but for a takeout order, they make a pretty damn fine meal. read more

So disappointed with this Sichuan. It was my family's favorite Chinese restaurant in our neighborhood but last father's day they humiliated my family when they tipped $16 by saying its too less and deducting extra $10 from the card by themselves. So so disappointed to hear them humiliate local customers like this! Sharing this information with all my Solano neighborhood. Great ambience. Excellent service. We had two items. First the beef chow fun. The flavor was delicious, noodles perfect, beef was tender, however for the price, it was skimpy on the beef. The second dish I was very disappointed in. It was the mixed vegetable dish. The vegetables were fresh & perfectly cooked. All our food came out fast, fast fast. However, it looked like there was a third of a cup of oil or more swimming in the bottom of the platter. At my age, I can't take all that oil. If you're young, and you don't care, go for it. But I will not be ordering that ever again. I did give them that feedback while there and they were receptive and said they would pass it on. The restaurant is very clean. read more

The chopsticks are disgusting!!!!!! The young female waitress's face is very grumpy! Looks like she doesn't like to work here but had too because of whatever reason in her life??
