Extra Large Pepperoni and Mushroom - A large pizza with a thin, crispy crust topped with pepperoni slices and mushroom pieces, served on a round metal tray. The pizza is cut into slices and appears freshly baked. The setting includes a wooden table, a person in a green striped shirt, and a glass of beer nearby.

Solid Pizza. Large space. Relaxed environment. Good prices. Solid thin crust pizza. Good distribution of sauce, cheese, and toppings. Would have been better with Sourdough crust. Very few people there at 5:30 on a Saturday. Nice big space, both indoor and outdoor seating. Pizza came out quickly. Happy hour from 3-6. Deals on apps and beer. Overall good prices.

LARGE BBQ CHICKEN - A large, oval-shaped pizza is presented on a metal tray, divided into two halves with different toppings. One side features BBQ chicken, red onions, and herbs, while the other side has artichoke hearts, red peppers, and vegetables. A small receipt is placed on the tray, indicating it was ordered at La Val's Pizza in Berkeley, CA. The pizza has a thin crust and is set on a wooden table.

Decent pizza place on northside. We got a large pizza to share and the size was pretty good enough for 6 people. I think their pizza is reasonably priced even for the individual slices. Overall solid food. Very lively atmosphere there's a pool table and arcade game inside.

My God. You have to be a misanthropic self-hating pretentious deplorable to give La Val's a bad review. I avoided La Val's for a year even though I lived right down the street. Excellent pizza and pasta (good enough wings) and some of the lowest prices in Berkeley. Please support La Val's or watch it turn into another soulless pan-Asian fast casual.

Vegetarian and IPA - A slice of vegetable pizza topped with zucchini, tomatoes, and cheese is placed on a tray lined with parchment paper on a wooden outdoor table. Next to the pizza, there is a glass of beer with a light golden color. The setting appears to be an outdoor dining area with wooden picnic tables and a building with brick and wood exterior in the background.

Was our go to place during lockdown Quick in to order and out to picnic tables in courtyard. Hazy IPA and the pizza was good too. It all still is 4 years later!

Came here with a big group and it did not disappoint! Add red pepper flakes, extra Parmesan, and the green sauce!

A photograph shows a single slice of cheese pizza with a thin crust and melted cheese on a white paper plate. A crumpled brown napkin is placed on the plate next to the pizza. The background includes a concrete sidewalk and some gravel or dirt, indicating an outdoor setting. The image is taken from above, with the person's hand visible holding the plate.

La Val's is a solid place to get pizza in Berkeley! Ive visited them a few times and have never been disappointed by the food or the workers. The first time, I tried their mozzarella sticks which were perfectly fried and delicious on their own and with ranch. I've tried their margarita style pizza, veggie pizza, and most recently the cheese pizza. I really like a thin crust and La Val's nails the thinness of their crusts. The sauce could be a bit more flavorful, but again it's pretty consistent. My least favorite of the three i've tried would be the margarita. It was too many tomatoes for my liking. My favorite would definitely be the cheese, it's a classic! I also appreciate that their pizza isn't super greasy. I will definitely be back soon! The establishment is pretty spacious and there are some benches outside in a really cute area which I very much appreciate. I definitely recommend checking them out!

La Val's Pizza Main entrance - The image shows a painted sign for La Val's Pizza et al. mounted above a doorway. The sign features decorative elements and the business name in stylized lettering. A single exposed light bulb hangs from the ceiling above the sign, illuminating the area. The surrounding structure appears to be part of a building entrance with dark framing and glass panels.

Walt from Walt's Adventures here and my adventure today lands me in Berkeley, California. I found myself at La Val's Pizza. Parking is on the street, they have a great but shared picnic table area for their outdoor seating, and this place rocks! Inside, they have a pool table, Fooz Ball table, pinball machine, and great food. 4 stars because, for me, I think a thicker sauce would be better. I cannot wait to return.

LeVal's La Val's Special Pizza - A partially eaten pizza with a thin crust is shown on a metal tray, topped with sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms, and black olives. The pizza is on a wooden table, with a soda can, glasses, and a person in a dark jacket sitting nearby. The background includes wooden chairs and a casual dining setting.

LaVal's is a Berkeley institution and has been a fixture in North Berkeley for decades. Their specialty is pizza though they also have pastas and sandwiches. I recommend sticking with the pizza (past meals of calzone and eggplant sandwich were just mediocre). After the Cal football game, we ordered the LaVal's special with pepperoni, salami, linguica, beef (we substituted double sausage), sausage, bell pepper, onion, mushrooms and black olives. I was expecting cardboard crust but it was surprisingly buttery, light, airy and delicious. The large was enough for 4 people; we also split a Greek salad. It wasn't too crowded inside so we watched some football and played pool. They have a good selection of beer (had a Blue Moon) and wines (good pours on the wine). It's a nice stop before you get back on the road.

La Val's and I go waaaay back. Okay fine... not THAT far back. This was actually my first time trying the Berkeley location. BUUUUT... I have fond memories of dining at their location in Alameda. I've always adored their pizza. When I worked in Alameda some years ago, I would always stop by La Val's for lunch to indulge in their lovable pizza. I was hiking in Berkeley a few months ago and decided to have dinner there afterward. Saw that there was a La Val's just down the road and my face lit up. It had been years since I'd gotten my hands on a La Val's pizza! I already knew I was about to grub. Throw DOWN on a pie! Yessir! And that, I did. This location has a cute communal outdoor dining space that's shared with the other restaurants in the square. Since the indoor dining was closed due to COVID, I decided to have a seat outside on their patio. The interior space is nice and spacious with several TV's mounted on the walls and game tables the dining room. I bet this place is fun when it's open for indoor dining. They had a mini pizza and soda combo special that I happily took advantage of. Went with a classic pepperoni pizza since that's what I remember getting when I used to go to the Alameda location. The guy at the register seemed overwhelmed and it took a while for him to take my order and for my pizza to come out. I'd say, don't come here in a hurry. Have some patience and you'll be just fine. I have to say, the pizza here was just how I always remembered it to be. Cheesy, greasy, flavorful, and yummy! I really like how they prepare their pizza crust. It's crispy on the bottom but still slightly doughy in the middle. Literally the best of both worlds if you ask me. And that's how I love my pies! Is it the best pizza in the world?! I mean, I can say that I've had better. But for the quality and price, La Val's is super solid. I'd happily make my way over here just to indulge in another pepperoni pizza again. It's so tasty.

Average pizza, but really good sandwiches. However, rather worn, not-too clean furniture and freezing cold inside.

2 Oct 2025 2:30 ish PM 3.1 stars…read more Been wanting a Cobb salad. I love those things. Wife and I decided to take a 21 mile drive to a spot we think specializes in salads. Tender Greens. As expected, finding parking is a beotch in Berkeley. Metered parking a block and a half away was found. A dollar for each 16 minutes if I remember correctly. I'm a boomer that doesn't like restaurants that have loud noise, disorganization, unruly todlers or uncleanliness. I expect to be treated as if I was invited over to have lunch with a mature friend. The cashier where you order and pay at the same time is counterintuitively at the back of the place. Customers walk in the front door and need to ask a cook at the front who tells you to head down towards the back door to place an order. Management: An "ORDER" sign with an arrow easily visible at entrance pointing to the cashier might fix this. That sign you currently have 11' high towards the back is easily missed. The staff at Tender Greens seemed professional. Maybe aside for the employees that wear their uniform hats backwards. The restaurant was kept clean and the tables bussed. Pleasant tunes like from The Foo Fighters and Hall and Oats had me bopping my head. If this was a tap room I could have spent hours here. I got my Cobb (and took my Yelp pictures) and my wife had a grilled salmon plate. I'll focus on the Cobb salad. I've been enjoying these salads for years. They come with a portion of blue cheese, a portion of dressing, a portion of chicken yada yada all arranged next to but not in each other. You get the salad plate and enjoy the look of the individual items, and then you mix or not at will. It's fun. Want to skip the avocado? Do it. Share a clean tomato? Share away. Skimp on the dressing or don't use it at all? You're in charge. Go for it! At Tender Greens, their salad comes tossed for you without your asking.. Sauce is on everything. If you are hoping to eat a bit of blue cheese or anything by itself, that is not happening. Most salad items are disguised in sauce\dressing to the point that you have to put food bits in your mouth and suck off the dressing before you chew to figure out what you have. Also you have no idea with this tossing how much of each salad componate you paid for. I haven't seen a tossing on a Cobb like this (until today) for fifty years and I hope never to see it for fifty more. Side note on this salad. Those bacon bites ( too large to call bits) are delicious. Just like my Father's home made bacon, though you could chip a tooth on these.. So the $16.95 salad tasts fine and I'm 3\4 through and getting full and Damned if i don't find a four inch brown hair on my plate. I'm bald and my wife's hair is overly highlighted blond so its not ours. This has never happened to me before to my knowledge. Unless I've unwittingly eaten someone else's hair. The filthy thing must have been hidden under the salad as it didn't show in the pics taken upon salad arrival. I was so disappointed and sick down in the pit of my stomach that I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture. You know or can imagine the feeling of filth touching your food right? Management. This food debacle can be easily fixed. Most of your male employees have facial hair and nobody wears hair nets. 1) Hair nets for all. 2) Facial masks for whiskers. Use it (mask) or lose it (shave). I received a second salad with an apology for the first. The second salad had visibly more blue cheese and avocado. That was nice. Management. Portion control? I might come back for the second salad but not the first. So it's unlikely we will be back.

While I receive refunds, there is clearly no human element understanding how to escalate issues or actually solve problems. Well this is the future of AI services, folks. Lower prices by eliminating human employees, then provide garbage services that don't work and fake support that does the absolute bare minimum of refunding charges after complete failures. Both are great, but I like Poke Bar more as I feel you get more protein and food for the price, super fresh fish (cut smaller than Wow, but feels like I am getting more, plus I have the option of asking for tofu as an option!). I love all of the add-ins (fried garlic goes great with fish and is so good without being too overpowering, far less overpowering than fried onions), the sauces are great, I like being able to have brown rice without being charged extra (ahem, Wow Lemonade ;) ), the seaweed salad is delicious and the food was so good that right after I took the first bite I made an audible sound and rolled my eyes it was so good. I had to be chill about it, but dang, Poke Bar rocks! I also like that it is a tiny bit more affordable, and you get more food for the price. So much food that I wasn't able to finish my medium-sized bowl. Only detractor is that I wish their krab was krab salad and not just krab. And I wish that as far as two sides go, that I could get two sides of krab and just mix in one of their sauces and some wasabi and make my own krab salad. Only negative about the place is that they don't offer bags with handles, just regular brown smaller grocery bags. So, if they stepped it up a notch and had branded bags I think that would help to promote their business more since they are located in a somewhat out-of-the-way spot. Definitely come and check this place out. Super fast service, okay seating, great, great, GREAT fresh fish, and such an umami flavor. Tip: get a mix of white and brown rice to make it a tad bit healthier and get some more fiber (if you don't want to go fully salad style and get greens.
