Cheese slice

When something new enters the El Cerrito scene, you hear about it from the mountain tops. So grateful Miles Pizza Slice has entered the chat in the old Super Slice Pizza location (Peppermint Tree Plaza). Right next to Dolly's! What pulled me into heading over for the soft opening were my neighbors who went twice within 24 hours, sharing their excitement for the pizza owner himself, quality, and taste. Obviously, we had to check it out as a family! Upon arrival there was a hot Pepperoni pie that had just come out of the oven. The owner was adding dollops of ricotta and grated Pecorino Romano to the top. Yum! We decided to grab a slice to split and try, while also waiting for a few slices of Cheese to come out of the oven. A neighborhood slice starts at $5, and the 'Miles' slice starts at $8. I'd say nice pricing for lunch under $10 (pending how many slices ya get, hehe). Taking a look at the menu, we already can't wait to come back and try their Miles "Hawaiian", the Tony's Pesto-roni, and the Pepperoni Heat. Love the Mike's Hot Honey usage, and the innovative takes on red/white/green pies! They offer NA drinks, and looks like they may have beer/wine soon..fun! Cant wait to continue to support this community spot during the summer nights ahead. Some indoor/outdoor seating available, and parking available in and around the shop. Cool music playing and honestly, just all the vibes I could ask for....love a spot that's keepin' the slice dreams alive!

Half and half with pepperoni and garlic pesto delight.

Yeah! Excellent crust, good ingredients, good value. We got half pepperoni and half garlic pesto delight. We'll be back!

Couldn't wait to dive in ...

I have been waiting for a really good neighborhood pizza place since I moved to California 12 years ago . A pizza that reminds me of home , NYC. I consider myself a pizza connoisseur and my husband is an absolute pizza snob ( in A good way) been searching for 12 years ... When I saw the ad on Instagram I was really excited that it was virtually around the corner and I could not wait to try Miles pizza slice! I Ordered delivery , silly me it's only 10 minutes from home..... I tried to cancel and pick it up but was unable to ... It arrived quickly , we opened the box to oogle... Could not wait to eat ... oven was ready 425° metal pizza stone to warm up our slices. one minute in the oven refreshed it beautifully , it was like fresh out of the pizza oven and then I closed my eyes before savoring my first bite !! My First impression was of the The crust , which was very tender and yummy with a wonderful crisp bite and a stand alone delicious flavor ... the sauce to cheese ratio: It was really good , sauce had that real tomato sauce tang I guess I would like a little more uniform sauce distribution to spread out the yummy tomato flavor so it combines with the cheese in every bite!!! Maybe a tad more cheese , just a little!! So , this was a great first experience ! Looking forward to many more pizza nights and pizza family weekends! Thank you Jeff for bringing NY pizza to the east bay and specifically to El cerrito so close to home !

Half and half - basil pesto and the mushroom pie

I was looking forward to trying this local neighborhood spot, and it hit exactly what should be expected in a great neighborhood pizza joint. We ordered online and we picked up in person. We got to meet Jeff and his crew, and they were very welcoming. You could tell they were very busy getting pies moving for dinner time, inside was neat, clean, and efficient. I definitely will go back and try again I had a slice of cheese while I was waiting for my pies, and the slices are large, hot, crispy, and a well balanced slice overall The pies came home fresh and did not need any type of reheating or crisping up within 10 minutes of coming out of the oven Everyone in the family enjoyed it. two half and half pies with 16 total slices between them was perfect for everyone to try a little bit of everything. I hope Jeff and company have a long run at this location!

Half veggie, half cheese. Was too excited to dig in before I could take a pic.

Was so excited to try Miles Pizza and it was absolutely delicious! Top notch. You can tell a lot of heart went into creating this pizza. The crust was perfectly chewy, soft and crisp and the ingredients are so fresh. We ordered a half veggie, half cheese for our kiddo. I loved the combination of veggies and the lemon zest to top it off was such a yummy touch. Can't wait to go back and try all the pizzas. So excited for our new go to Pizza spot! Wishing this business a lot of success!

Cheese pie absolutely fantastic

I am a self-confessed, New York pizza snob and think a lot of what you get out Here is absolute overpriced garbage! That being said I absolutely loved Miles cheese pizza tonight! Jeff the owner is a wonderful guy. Great new shop in El Cerrito in the former Super Slice spot on San Pablo. Order online highly suggested super premium product. Great flavor zero flop excited for next time already.! welcome to 94530!! glad you're here!

Cheese slice had to take a bite couldn't wait.

Found my new local pizza joint. Incredible pizza closest thing you'll get to a NY slice in the entire state. Jeff the owner was extremely nice and informative. The pizza came out fresh and passed the fold test with flying colors great undercarriage. The sauce was light and flavorful and the pizza wasn't oily at all. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys pizza as this better than all the overhyped joints in the Bay Area.

Massive pepperoni slice ($9)

A great new addition to the East Bay's pizza landscape. I had the massive pepperoni slice ($9) and it was a meal unto itself. Delicious sauce and tasty crust. The owner, Jeff, was very amicable and provided wonderful service. I will definitely be going back there to try some other types, although it's pretty hard not to get the pepperoni again! 5 stars.

That location has since closed down, but two locations remain, this one in Albany and another along Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission District. The team also owns three The Star pizza restaurants with locations in Oakland, Alameda, and Portland, Oregon. With all these locations to keep track of what makes people keep coming back for all these wide varieties of pizza pies? It's the dough of course, but it is not just any dough, it is their beautifully crusty cornmeal dough that is cooked to perfection for their Chicago-style deep dish pizza that is what makes Little Star and all of their subsidiaries so worthwhile. I had originally been to this location when they were located literally right next door in a smaller location on the corner. Now, in a much larger location, with floor to ceiling windows that let in natural light on two sides, and their own communal parking lot, where there is a door for direct takeout orders, Little Star Pizza is thriving here in Albany. What brought me and a dining mate back for a first time visit to this newer location was the affordable lunchtime deal that they serve seemingly seven days a week. From open until 3 p.m. diners can order a Personal Signature Pizza either Deep Dish or Thin Crust for only 11 dollars. You can also build your own personal pizza for 9 dollars which is an affordable option. My fellow dining mate and I knew we wanted to select from their Seasonal Specials or their Signature Pies. I decided to order their Personal size All-Star Signature Pie, which was topped with bacon, meatballs, sausage, pepperoni, provolone cheese and served on their signature cornmeal crust, then filled with mozzarella cheese and house-made tomato sauce & finished with parmesan & oregano. My dining mate was intrigued by their Specials menu, and their Personal size Sweet Heat, which was topped with spicy sausage, caramelized red onions, cherry peppers, hot honey and served on their signature cornmeal crust, then filled with mozzarella cheese and house-made tomato sauce & finished with parmesan & oregano. Since both pizzas were so affordable at 11 dollars each, we decided to splurge and order two dessert drinks as I ordered their Golden Gate Orange Soda Float and my dining mate ordered their Dad's Root Beer Soda Float. The wait for our personal size pizzas would be a lengthy one, at least twenty minutes, which for about a nine inch pizza pie, is still a considerable amount of time. But once you do get the pizzas you order, I can report it is well worth the wait, as the pizza has that extra special graininess to it that makes it extra special good. Combined with the fresh tomatoes and an abundance of mozzarella cheese, you cannot go wrong with any type of pizza you order. I liked my All-Star pizza pie with its abundance of meat toppings and I tried my dining mates Sweet Heat pizza pie and it came as delivered as it has a combination of sweetness meets spiciness. Luckily our wait wasn't too long, as we had our ice cream and soda floats to keep us satiated while we waited for our pizzas to be handcrafted. Our total bill was $42.08, which was with tax but before gratuity, which in all reality was very reasonable considering we ordered two rather large personal deep dish pizzas, and our floats were a mere fraction less in terms of pricing. Since they have a Happy Hour on weeknights from 3-5:30 p.m. with reasonably priced cocktails, one-topping pizzas and other menu items at affordable pricing, you better believe it will not be another decade that passes by before I make another appearance. Here's to the continued success of Little Star Pizza, may more locations be in the future, and may their current locations continue to thrive thanks to their delectable Signature Deep Dish pizzas!

The old owner was always so cool to us as kids and would sometimes give us free slices (usually ones that hadn't sold and probably would've been thrown out anyway), but as kids we thought it was the greatest thing ever. He was just genuinely kind and made the place feel like part of the neighborhood. I know Gioia's has since changed ownership, and unfortunately the friendliness I remember hasn't really carried over. My experiences with the newer staff have been pretty rude and unwelcoming, which is disappointing when you have such fond memories of a place. That being said, I have to give credit where it's due: the pizza is STILL just as good as I remember it being. I just wish the warmth and neighborhood feel of the old Gioia's had stuck around too.

The pizza was rolled very thin, but there was almost zero rise in the crust at all: the crust was dense and not airy. If I were to guess, the pizza dough had probably been sitting out for far too long, leading to the dough being way over-proofed. The cubes of lamb topping the pizza had a strange sourness to it and were incredibly dry. Similarly, the wings were also overcooked and very dry, and didn't really have much flavor to them at all. At $33.99 for an X-Large pizza (before tax and tip), you might as well head over to June's pizza in West Oakland to get a pizza for the same price.
