Lots of premade pizzas to choose from - The image features a glass display case containing several pre-made pizzas with various toppings, including Margherita, Gypsy Pepper, Funghi, Julian, Pepperoni, and others. Each pizza has a label describing its ingredients. Behind the case, there is a countertop with a sign for Gioia Pizzeria, indicating it offers New York-style pizza with a blistered crust. The background includes kitchen equipment and pizza boxes, suggesting a quick-service environment.

4++ small pizza spot located in Berkeley. This place is seriously not much larger or wider than the counter you order at. The folks here are friendly and they have lots of premade slices that you can choose from. This place is conducive for takeout or grab and go. It's a great neighborhood spot where you can walk inside or order from the window I think. I wasn't super hungry so I just got the mushroom slice. Nice crisp and great flavor. My brother took me here when we were visiting the area with him and my sister-in-law. They let me know that this place was one of their old haunts. Just a really great spot to grab a quick bite for a reasonable price.

Previous review was 4 stars but I'm upping that to 5. I'm rating Gioia on the pizza. I love it. Love it. I think it's improved. And I love the style which is the New York style way. You order your slices which are pre made pies. Then they heat them in the oven which makes them hot and crispy. Several topping choices to choose. No indoor seating. Other than a bench there's really no outdoor seating either. But the pizza is so good. And it's nice, shady outside. Decent amount of street parking.

Delicious pizza! It was easy to place an online order on their website. I also needed to modify my pick up time and easily got a hold of them when I called and everything was smooth. We got the Pepperoni, Asparagus, and Julian pizzas, the chopped salad and cannolis. Everything was SO GOOD. Will definitely be one of our new go-to's when we're in the Berkeley area.

Pizza - A cheese pizza with sliced jalapeño peppers and sausage toppings is shown in an open cardboard pizza box. The pizza has a golden-brown crust with some charring on the edges. One slice has been removed, revealing melted cheese and toppings. The box is placed on a table with some condiments visible in the background.

The crust was amazing. Best in the bay imo. Could have been cooked a little longer for my taste. I didnt particularly like the cheese blend either. Sausage was good paired well with pickled jalapeños. Sauce was the most lacking. I prefer a sweet or spicy sauce. The sauce was very bland. Slices might be better

Pistachio cannoli

Today we tried the cannolis and I was blown away by the deliciousness! I've had their pizza (equally good) a few times now but had never tried their cannolis. The last time I had a great cannoli was from Mike's Pastry in Boston so I wasn't sure Berkeley could live up to that. I'm happy to say that the cannoli was cheesy and creamy in a crisp shell. Yum!

Julian Pizza

This is one of my family's favorite pizza spots in the Bay Area and I couldn't agree more! There's always a line whenever I go with plenty of people buying their delicious slices. My personal favorites are the Fungi and Julian but honestly you really can't go wrong with any of their pies. The crust has a nice crisp texture and the flavors are so unique that you can't really have anywhere else. Highly recommend to those in Berkeley or SF!!

Red Gypsy Pizza (Left), Salsiccia Pizza (Right) - Two slices of pizza with cheese, vegetables such as peppers and onions, and meat toppings like sausage and possibly ground beef are placed on a paper-lined tray. The pizza appears to have a thin crust and is served in a setting that suggests takeout or quick service, possibly in a car.
Ethan A.

Crust is super light and crispy. The Salsiccia has got a little kick to it because of the jalapeños which is nice with the meaty sausage chunks on it. The Red Gypsy was well balanced with the chunks of ricotta and salty olives. Like creamy and salty sort of on top of a beautiful crust. Red Gypsy isn't on the menu it seems, but it was in the glass case when I went so base your selection on what's available that day. Inside, there's about a 3 x 3 area to stand, look at the pizza selection, and order. It's very small, but there's so many pizzas in the back. You can get your slices hot or cold. You pick up the pizza in the little window connected to the sidewalk. There isn't really any seating there. Service is fast and friendly, not many words were exchanged. Parking is just street. Overall, I enjoyed my pizza and am excited to try the other flavors.

One slice of yummy goodness. $5.85 - A hand holds a slice of pizza with toppings including greens, red onions, and possibly sausage, on branded paper from Gioia Pizzeria. The background shows an outdoor setting with a building, trees, and a clear sky, indicating a casual outdoor dining or takeout scene.

Very nice neighborhood with a friendly welcoming vibe. Gioia is a very small shop. They sell pizza by the slice. There's no in-door dining. On the sidewalk is a small bench under tree-covered comfortable shade. I ordered a slice of Julian -- chosen because it was one of two options that had sausage. The pizza was absolutely delicious and super flavorful. I shall return to try other flavors. Tip: add take-out clam chowder to your meal from Monterey Fish Market next door. They are delicious.

Mushroom - Two slices of mushroom pizza with melted cheese, black mushrooms, and herbs are placed inside a cardboard pizza box. The pizza has a golden crust and is partially eaten, with some grease visible on the box. The box is lined with branded paper from Gioia Pizzeria, and the background includes a wooden chair and a plain wall.

One again proving that the best pizza places in Berkeley come from the smallest spots. I absolutely loved the pizza I ordered for takeout and chowed down with some friends. Highly recommend for anyone missing New York pizza. It's not too oily and they actually have good tomato sauce unlike most other CA pizza places. I'll definitely be returning.

Post-pandemic, the crowd situation has worked itself out. The pizza is still ok, if pricey.

The line does get pretty long on busy nights after big events like concerts, but it tends to move pretty fast. I've tried their Artichoke, Margherita, and Vodka slices which are all solid choices. Each of their slices are huge and great for the price of ~$8! Personally, I find their pizzas to be a bit on the heavier side with their generous amounts of sauce, but great if you're in the mood for some mouth-watering greasy saucy pizza. They operate on a grab n go service, but there are seats and a few standing tables outside. Overall, definitely a pizza spot worth going to when you're in Berkeley!

But Blondie's still knows how to crank out slices that are very satisfying for a quick bite. I got their classic pepperoni and it still plentifully loaded with beef pepperoni on a slice sizable enough to make you think twice before ordering two of them. I stuck with one. Something about the texture does not say dough prepared daily to my palate. Still, it's quick and delicious. The spicy tomato sauce and four cheese blend offer a nice balance to the doughy crust. Slices start as $6.99 for cheese. Vegetarian and a daily special are also available. Whole pies too -- $14 for a small cheese pie. 12 varieties to choose from and sizes ranging from 10' to the 22" Godzilla pizza. Not to mention wings or breadsticks. Order from a cashier or, when it's busy, a kiosk. For seating, there are only 3 small tables + 3 chairs at the window counter. Lot's of standing room or it's easy food to walk with. If you can't find street parking, the Telegraph-Channing lot is relatively inexpensive at $3/hour. Enter from Channing Way or Durant Ave.

The location gives it a lively downtown vibe with lots of energy from the surrounding area and nearby students. The reservation and check-in process was very smooth. The staff were incredibly courteous, welcoming, and helpful throughout the visit. I actually arrived about 30 minutes earlier than my reservation time, and they were kind enough to seat us early, which was a really nice touch. One thing I really like about this place is that they update their dishes a few times a year, so every visit can feel a little different and exciting. The menu has great variety, especially when it comes to pizza styles as you can choose from New York, Sicilian, Detroit, and Grandma-style pizzas, and the pricing is very straightforward for all the sizes they serve. The pizza was perfectly cooked and tasted great. They also allow you to customize your pizza by adding or removing ingredients, which makes it very convenient for everyone to choose based on their liking. And they add toppings with open-heart. The pasta was also excellent. We ordered the Peperoncino pasta, and it tasted amazing. The garlic flavor and breadcrumbs were really the highlight and brought out the authentic character of the spaghetti. Another big plus is that they have plenty of vegetarian options, making it easy for different dietary preferences. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for what they serve. Food arrived quickly, and the service from the servers and staff was great throughout the visit. The restaurant also has plenty of space and handles reservations well. The atmosphere is lively with lots of people around and students from the nearby university, which adds to the downtown Berkeley energy. A little more upbeat music could add even more charm to the place. Overall, this is a place I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Berkeley. It's the kind of restaurant I'd happily come back to again and again.
