I absolutely love this place for cute ambiance. They are at par with their customer service. In terms of food: the pizzas are delicious and crispy. Mushroom pizza is my personal favorite. You must definitely give them a try
I tried Rose Pizza based off some recommendations from coworkers. I was underwhelmed by the pizza, the crust was quite burnt and the toppings just didn't do it for me. The stand out dish of the meal was the spicy Caesar salad. Huge leaves of romaine covered in breadcrumbs, Parmesan and a tangy spicy dressing. Despite my first pizza at Rose not being memorable I would gladly come back and try a different pie.
Stopped by Rose Pizzeria for lunch in Berkeley. They have very limited indoor seating (1-2 tables) and a nice outdoor patio with more seating. Their kitchen is pretty tiny, with maybe 1-2 chefs. I went on a Friday afternoon and there was no wait. I don't think they'd really be able to accommodate a larger party (5+ people). Their menu is kind of limited, and I wasn't really excited about their pizza offerings. They don't allow substitutions or mixing flavors (half and half), and their flavors either had meat and cheese or veggies and cheese (didn't see any that mixed meat and veggies unfortunately). They did have a few unique flavors like one that combined feta with I think it was like apricot or some fruit? We ordered 2 Pepperoni & Basil pizzas for 3 people ($24/pizza). Our waiter was nice and the pizzas came out fairly quickly. The pizza was good, but didn't stand out to me. I did like the texture of the crust (very crunchy). I probably won't be back because I prefer combo-type pizza, but it's a nice lunch or dinner spot.
As someone from Brooklyn that has eaten pizza her whole life, I'm very critical about it. I can say Rose Pizzeria makes fantastic pizza. Their marinara sauce is perfectly sweet & not too acidic, perfect amount of cheese, and the taste of the dough in the pizza, plus the char on the crust was incredible- truly no notes for the Margherita pie. The Champione pie was a white pizza with mushrooms and charred leeks, this was sort of a 3.9/5 for me, and this is my personal opinion. Mushrooms and leeks are a good flavor combo, but I think it works better on pasta than as a pizza topping. Plentiful mushrooms in each bite, but I felt like they were competing with each other instead of complimenting each others. This review was for a takeout order (ordered in person, took 30 mins) and I can't wait to dine in person!
We ordered two pizzas about 1.5 hours in advance and the soonest scheduled pickup was at 4:45 PM. We arrived early around 4:15. I completely understand that arriving early doesn't automatically mean food should be ready early. I get restaurants want to make sure food stays fresh and hot, and they couldn't have known we would be there early. That said, what was frustrating was that once we were physically there waiting--and the restaurant/kitchen clearly was not busy--they still couldn't accommodate and begin making the pizzas. There was only one small table finishing up, no line of customers, or pickups walking in and out, no visible backlog of orders, and the dining area was clean/reset, making it clear they were not in the middle of a rush or large takeout order. We were told they would not start the pizzas until 4:30 and they'd be ready 15 minutes later--exactly at the scheduled pickup time. While I understand wanting to honor pickup windows, the inflexibility felt excessive given the circumstances. The pizza itself was fantastic and absolutely delicious, but the service/overall experience came across as indifferent and not particularly accommodating.
Best pizza in the city!!! So grateful we have one in SF. Caesar salad was huge and really fresh. We got the pepperoni and cheese. Both were so yummy. The crust is crisp but not too crisp and the red sauce was tangy and complimented the cheese really well. Can't wait to be back!
There was so much hype around rose pizzeria when they won best pizza at a world competition, we were sooo excited to try. So when the university is on spring break, we took the opportunity to make a reservation for an early dinner on a Friday. They have a patio but all the seats were taken so we sat inside. The menu had some very interesting entries and our eyes immediately honed in on she wolf (tomato sauce, burrata, olives and capers with garlic confit) and the seasonal appetizer strawberry burrata. Everything tasted great and the pizza dough definitely stands out. Maybe capers and olives made it a bit saltier but still very good. Not quite the mind blowing pizza we thought we would get but solid and delicious nonetheless

We started with the Spicy Caesar salad and it has a nice seat to it. We ordered 2 pizzas - old faithful and champione. I love the crust - instead of oily and flimsy it is crispy and stays flat instead of flopping over. The pizzas were a good size and we had leftovers. The pizza is definitely worth it.
I've been wanting to check out this place for some time now and it did not disappointed. They have an indoor and outside area, and the outside area is super cute and great for a nice sunny day. Tried the Tangerine & Burrata, Old Faithful, and the Alpine Gold, and the Alpine Gold was definitely my favorite. Loved the potatoes and the truffle cream, along with a very crispy crust. Expect the pizzas to come out in 10-20 minutes. Overall, really great experience with great service. Would highly recommend!
Was in Berkeley around lunchtime last week and got to try Rose Pizzeria for the first time, and I gotta say, I was impressed. For starters we went with the spicy Caesar salad, which was so good. Top 5 restaurant salads I've had, and would order every time. For pizzas we went with a cheese pizza and the Louie-louie. If it's my first time to a place I always have to try the cheese. The ratio of all the ingredients was on point. Crispy crust too, just how I like it. The Louie-louie is a white sauce pizza with fennel sausage. This was a great compliment to the cheese pizza because the flavor profiles were so different from each other that it was like having the best of both worlds. The restaurant is on the smaller side, which makes it great for groups of 1-4. With both indoor and outdoor seating. Service here was amazing. Definitely an overall solid place to satisfy those pizza cravings!
Summary: Decent pizza but lacking against the competition Details: I'd been hearing the praise about Rose for a bit in social media and local news, and finally found an opportunity to make it several months back with a friend. Did it live up to the hype? Naw, not really, but I can't think of many places that have, given how much social media falsely inflates everything these days anyway. That said: flavors were decent, with the Old Faithful being more enjoyable overall than the too-salty Pepp & Basil, but I can't say I particularly enjoyed the crust of either, with their particular formulation coming in just a bit too dense and rubbery: I generally prefer my pizza crust/dough to either be on the crispier side, or the soft and chewy side, and this was not it. All in all, not the worst choice, especially if you're in the area and prefer the particular texture they offer up, but this is not it for me personally. Accessibility: Plenty of accessible to accessible-ish seating, including outdoor seating in the back patio as well.

We decided to order the gigante beans, spicy Caesar salad, fancy anchovies, and the Louie Louie pizza. The gigante beans were my absolute favorite!! The beans, feta, artichoke, and vinaigrette all paired so well together. The Caesar salad was the best I've had and fully loaded with breadcrumbs and dressing. I also loved the anchovies. Salty with a great vinaigrette and fresh dill. My husband enjoyed his pizza as did I but the apps really stood out for me. It also paired well with the house wine. We will definitely return!
SO GOOD. Easily my favorite pizza spot in Berkeley so far (and I've tried a ton). We were immediately seated right by the front window, which was nice. Our server gave great recommendations for vegetarian pizzas. Ordered the she wolf (burrata, garlic confit, olives, capers) and the champione (mushroom, white sauce) pizzas to share between 3 people. Waited about 20 minutes for the pizza to come, and when it did, we were so ready to dive in. The garlic on the she wolf pizza was GAS. Also one of the best thin crusts I've ever had. Absolutely LOVED all the mushrooms on the champione too! Highly recommend adding the red pepper flakes for some spiciness. The ambiance at night is was amazing. Great lighting, great vibes, very cozy, very busy, smell of pizza. Will definitely be back to try more flavors!

We were excited to try Rose Pizza after hearing so many good things, but the experience was just ok. We were 10 minutes early before our reservation, which we didn't think much of. We saw 2 tables open and assumed 1 was for us, but we were turned away with a real lack of warmth. In the end we were seated at one of those empty tables anyway, so it felt unnecessary. Our waiter wasn't very attentive either. We ordered the margarita pizza, which came out fast, and I got a side of ranch since I'm a ranch lover. The pizza was good but not mind blowing. Tip: don't bother coming early for your reservation. Even 10 minutes early wasn't welcome. Not a bad meal, but the service kept it from being the experience we hoped for. read more
Rose Pizzeria, now boasting two locations, obviously is superb to start its Bay Area sprawl. So, it's no shocker that I'll say she's really good. I tried their pie for the first time, sharing a She Wolf pizza and spicy Caesar between our party of two. They strictly serve 14 inch thin crust pies, which is a decent amount of food split between 2, if you supplement with a starter course. The She Wolf, littered with olives and garlic confit, is sublime, and the dollops of burrata thoughtfully portioned on every slice make a rich, excellent contrast to the tangy sauce underneath. I'd imagine Portnoy being likely pleased with the undercarriage, which was stiff enough to not forfeit any of its structural integrity nor toppings to the almost-inevitable flop. The spicy Caesar is a damn good Caesar and not over nor under dressed. Next time, I'd add some anchovies. In Carrie Bradshaw fashion, I also indulged in a chilled red with my pizza this afternoon while people watching on their adorable patio. Is there really a better lunch to be had? read more

One of the best pizza places I've ever been to. It's on university avenue so there is no parking. If you're lucky it's not crowded, but I wasn't. It was a 45 min wait to be seated. There was lots to do in the area tho so we walked around. I was about to say it was a really small restaurant but it's small in the front and I believe bigger in the patio. I loved the interior design tho, you could take pictures in here for your photo dumps haha! Quite a classic aesthetic, even the bathroom was gorgeous. Anyways the tables are VERY close together, which I didn't enjoy. It was quite an intimate experience and it felt like they were in on my conversation. And on top of that the walkways would sometimes be crowded because of the online orders. Anyways, they got my pizza wrong first time, I was waiting for another 20 minutes. Fortunately for me this was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. You know when you are talking and the food is so good the conversation ends. Yes. This was that kinda pizza. I enjoyed the crust. Quite the architectural masterpiece. Easy to chew through but was still quite strong. The crust had amazing integrity. My pizza was quite wet, I put a few fixings on top and it didnt become soggy. Even for left overs, it didn't fall apart. And my pizza was wet ok I had the burrata pizza so that's a big deal. You could taste the fresh ingredients and the difference they make. Also the ranch was terrific. I'm coming back. No doubt about it. read more

Great setting if you get a table in the back yard/deck. Pizza is crispy and we loved the toppings. You can't go wrong with any of the pizzas. Good choice of wine nothing complex mostly easy to drink wins with pizza. Salads are good too. We have enjoyed this addition to Berkeley! read more
We decided to try Rose Pizzeria this afternoon for our daughter's birthday weekend. We got there at 4:00 PM and was informed there were no tables available until 5:00 PM. We placed a reservation for 5:00 PM. They texted us at 4:50 that our table was ready. We order one classic pepperoni pizza. The pizza came out fast. We loved their crunchy thin crust pizza. It tasted good. DJ's rating: 4.00/5.00 Would we come back? Yes. read more

Tried the old faithful pizza, wonderful spicy pepper and sausage. It didn't need the hot honey on the side at all. It was perfect size for two people. Had the spicy Cesar salad, and it was really great, good textures, sauce and parm. Would recommend this as a starter if you like a salad. Had the olive oil cake and it was good, but found the strawberry preserves to be too sweet for my preference. Excited to come back and try other pies! read more
Well, they were right! One of my all time favorite pizzas! The crust is thin, with a puffy and light crust. The pizza is cooked with a char, which I would have thought too charred, but it was perfect and awsome! Our service was great! Quiet, professional, efficient with a subtle smile as we gushed over the pizza. The place is small and cramped and perfect! Oh yeah, at first I was a bit annoyed the menu says something like "no half topping pizzas and no custom orders". We were gonna order half sausage and half cheese. I get it now, they are cranking out supremely great pizza quickly. Trust the process and enjoy!! read more
Found this place in the top 50 best pizzeras list in America and wanted to try it out . Highly recommend! I was skeptical about the anchovies appetizer but it was fresh and I kind of liked it . The Old Faithful pizza is definitely a must try . Reading the ingredients made me nervous because I'm a strictly pepperoni pizza kind of person but holy cow . They don't leave cheese on the table and at first I was like .. the heck? But the pizzas were so good with the hot honey man... definitely going back . Only flop was that the patio furniture was really wobbly , the table and the bench. But other than that all the food was tasty, service was spot on. read more

Champione (Mushroom): 9/10 Plenty of fragrant mushrooms that tasted fresh and earthy. The green onion added a nice contrast with a mild crunch--an excellent touch that elevated the flavor. Classic Pep: 7/10 Generous amount of pepperoni with a satisfying kick in every bite. Downside: it leaned salty and oily. Spicy Caesar Salad: 9/10 A must-try for its unique twist. Was it spicy? Not really, but the dressing had a distinctive, memorable flavor. The fried breadcrumbs were a great addition. Service was unfortunately the biggest drawback. We were told the wait would be 10-15 minutes but no name was taken, and we were simply told to wait outside. It left me wondering if I hadn't gone back in to check, would they have remembered us, especially as more walk-ins of similar size came in after? And once seated, it took quite a while get anyone's attention to take our order. read more
Service was a tad lackadaisical (nobody checked on us and they forgot the salad until I mentioned it) but the ingredients and flavors were excellent. They comped the salad which I appreciated. Nice high energy vibe, not too loud, cute patio too. I'm very happy that they take reservations for small parties. Would definitely come back! read more
If nothing else, Berkeley should be known for pizza. There are many pizza shops around Berkeley and they're all on top of their game. Rose Pizzeria was no different. Opening at 12 noon and within 5-10 minutes of opening, we arrived to notice that half the restaurant is already full!? Luckily, we got a seat because shortly after we got seated, the next visitors all either had to have a reservation or wait approximately an hour or so to get seated. Rose's simple menu was easy to navigate. We ordered two pizzas (Pepp & Basil and Champione), both were great! I favored the Champione slightly more because of the earthy tones. We also ordered two starters (Burrata & Cherries and Giant Beans). Burrata & Cherries were good. The Giant Beans were very well made and delicious. Suffice it to say, for two adults and a 2.5 year old baby, we orders too much. But the food was fantastic. read more
I've had this bookmarked for some time. So glad I made a reservation! The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was fairly easy to find if you're willing to walk a few blocks. Our table was ready as soon as I walked in for our reservation. The covered patio seating was cozy. The table was relatively close to the other seated guests, but the noise level was not bad at all. It was a full patio by the time we ordered. Love that there was complimentary hot honey on the table. Our pizza and bottle of wine arrived within maybe 15 minutes of ordering. We've been looking for a pizza place since our local favorite place closed down. We ordered the old faithful and it was plenty for two. The sauce was nice and bright, not too tart. The pizza was pretty thin which I love. My partner even ate his crust, which he never does. Overall, I was kinda bummed we didn't order a second pizza to try so we'd have leftovers. I found that a remarkable phrase, '68 America. Anyway, Rose was placed in the 50th slot for best in the U.S. by 50 Top Pizza, an Italian pizza guide. Italian of course, note the wonky syntax: wouldn't Top 50 Pizza sound better? As a rule, you should avoid listening to guides, particularly guides of European origin. The Italians peaked centuries ago. They know very little about anything anymore. This, does Rose toss the 50th best pizza in America? Probably not. But, try it anyway. Unless you decide to delude yourself, the pizza will not live up to it's reputation. Essentially a NYC style pie, Maillard browning distributes evenly along the crust. A good chew from well developed gluten. Not too chewy: evidence perhaps of the use of a biga. Yet, the bread lacked flavor. On my way in I saw a three-top of girls in their mid 20s with a saucer full of discarded crust. I thought, chicks and their fear of calories. Not wanting to pack on extra fat during bikini season. But really, no, the crust is unremarkable. Decent sauce. Pretty good quality mozz. It's cool. Would be a nice place to dine when dark out. read more

Great pizza place in Berkeley that was on the NYT best pizzeria's in America's list! We came on a weekend right at noon when they opened so we were able to be seated right away without a reservation. It's a popular spot so definitely get a reservation online if you can! A few groups without reservations came in afterwards and were told the wait time was an hour. They have indoor seating and a covered patio outside. We got the spicy Cesar salad which we enjoyed! It was well dressed and a little different from your average Cesar salad. For the pizza, we got the Old Faithful (sausage, peppers, green onion) and the She Wolf (burrata, garlic, olives, capers and added the anchovies). Both were with red sauce and they were delicious! Very thin with a good distribution of toppings. I also like that they have hot honey on the table, some places charge extra for it. 2 pizzas and a salad was the perfect amount of food for 3 people. We got there a little before 12 and they open at 12. There was already a small line of about 5 people standing in front of the restaurant. They let patrons in a little before 12 and people were asking if they can get pizza to go and they said yes (this would not be a good pizza to take to go due to the thin dough getting soggy). We got inside and they asked us if we had a reservation and we did. Staff was very friendly and efficient ushering us quickly to the patio which we signed up for. The patio is very ugly with a plastic roof and looks like a shed. There were probably 30 flies hovering underneath the plastic roof of their patio and luckily they didn't touch our food but definitely not the vibe we prefer for dining. We ordered a pepperoni and basil pizza and it was like a medium pizza but since it's cracker thin, it felt like a regular small pizza in our stomaches. The slices were not well cut and there were two slices that were 2/3 of the pizza. One slice was the size of a baby's hand. The interior is non-descript and I'm not sure if it's much better than the patio minus the 30ish flies. The pizza was very light with minimal sauce and cheese but covered in small pepperoni that was overly salty. It had a good amount of fresh basil leaves that added an extra dimension to the flavor but overall, the pizza tasted mostly of salt so I do not recommend their pepperoni and basil pizza. People next to us had a mushroom pizza and that would have been my first choice but hubby is a meat eater so we had pepperoni and basil. The best part of the pizza was the super light and perfectly chewy yet crispy crust. The pizza dough is made of high quality flour and the ingredients are fresh but in terms of flavor, Cheese Board is still number one for me. This is possibly one of the best classical style pizzas I've had overall. I like Little Star for deep dish pizzas. This place is voted as a top 22 pizzeria in New York Times and that's why we came here today. Definitely a good pizza but the ambiance is a bit depressing especially with the flies and white plastic roof. The enclosed patio is between a shared gorgeous rose garden with two other restaurants including the Butcher's Son (vegan restaurant) which I have been to many times and sitting in their garden setting was much more beautiful and uplifting (though they don't have pizza), I might not mind having vegan food just to enjoy the garden setting instead of the plastic roof patio with flies. read more
Wanted to love this place based on all the recent articles and last year's New York Times praise as one of the best in the country. Sadly, my expectations fell short. We didn't make a reservation in advance so tried our luck Sunday around 5:30pm, we were seated after about a 10 min wait - very small space in front, I believe more tables out back. We ordered: - Gigante Beans (4/5): Beans were tasty but overly marinated in what looked like oil, feta and artichokes were a nice touch. Not sure about the arugula on top, didn't add to the dish. Toasted bread slices were tasty - Champione with red sauce (3/5): We enjoy mushroom pizza but prefer red sauce, so we asked for a substitution over the default white sauce. Pizza came piping hot, but upon picking up a slice everything slid off the base. Center was very soggy, no hold, not sure if it was because of the red sauce. Otherwise the crust was more dense than other reviewers make it seem (e.g. crispy cracker thin). Good chew though, but it was also a bit on the saltier side. The spicy Caesar salad other tables ordered looked great, so may get that next time, but it'll likely be a while before coming back. read more

Rose Pizzeria made a huge splash in the East Bay pizza scene! They were recently mentioned on the NY Times best pizza places in the US. I made a reservation a day before and got one the next day for 8PM on a Sunday. I'd highly recommend making a reservation for this place because it is very packed inside. We were seated shortly after arriving. The service was brisk and to the point. The indoor seating felt a bit small but they do also have an outdoor patio space as well. Parking is a bit challenging but it is conveniently located near a lot of public transit options such as the 51B and Downtown Berkeley BART. To start, I shared the Tangerine & Burrata. The burrata had a creamy, mild taste that was easy to eat. I loved it with the focaccia bread and the tangerine pieces. For pizza, I got one of the pizza specials which was the Spicy Fig (fig jam, raclette, mozzarella, Fresno chili, red onion, and arugula). I absolutely love the taste of arugula so I was stoked that it was a topping on this pizza. The food came out quickly. The center of the pizza was soggy but toward the crust it was crisp. I wish there was a bit more fig jam on the pizza and that there was more of a kick from the Fresno chilies. I cannot resist tiramisu so I shared a slice of that for dessert. The sea salt on top balanced out the sweetness. This was my favorite part of the meal. Overall, I thought the pizza was good and the service was average. I would be interested in coming back to try their other pizzas. read more

Do they sell slices?? One or two slices of pizza is the sweet spot for me. Otherwise it's too much bread for too little meat and veggies. Hard to find around here, unless you like the sourdough California version of pizza.
