Despite reservations, we had to wait about 25 minutes to get seated on the cute patio. Since the space is very tight, there is no good place to wait without getting in someone's way. Once seated, it was another 10-15 minutes before someone came to take the drink order. It looked like they only had one server working the inside and one outside, which is obviously insufficient on busy days. We read that spicy Caesar is a must, so we ordered one as an appetizer. It was pretty good but I wouldn't go back just for that. The two pizzas we tried were Margherita and classic pepperoni. IMO these two pies should showcase every great pizzeria, and Rose does them well. The pizzas are slightly bigger than Neapolitan pies and cut larger, almost NY style. The drink menu is appropriate for a pizzeria, wine and beer. But all the beers are in cans, no drafts, so I went with house wine instead. The prices are what you'd expect to pay at better pizza places in California nowadays, around $25 for a pizza. For a pizza out of electric oven, Rose is one of the better ones I've had. But compared to brick ovens, I don't think any electric oven pizza will come close. To say the hype around Rose is worth it, would not be truthful. There are definitely better pies in the area. As someone from Brooklyn that has eaten pizza her whole life, I'm very critical about it. I can say Rose Pizzeria makes fantastic pizza. Their marinara sauce is perfectly sweet & not too acidic, perfect amount of cheese, and the taste of the dough in the pizza, plus the char on the crust was incredible- truly no notes for the Margherita pie. The Champione pie was a white pizza with mushrooms and charred leeks, this was sort of a 3.9/5 for me, and this is my personal opinion. Mushrooms and leeks are a good flavor combo, but I think it works better on pasta than as a pizza topping. Plentiful mushrooms in each bite, but I felt like they were competing with each other instead of complimenting each others. We ordered two pizzas about 1.5 hours in advance and the soonest scheduled pickup was at 4:45 PM. We arrived early around 4:15. I completely understand that arriving early doesn't automatically mean food should be ready early. I get restaurants want to make sure food stays fresh and hot, and they couldn't have known we would be there early. That said, what was frustrating was that once we were physically there waiting--and the restaurant/kitchen clearly was not busy--they still couldn't accommodate and begin making the pizzas. There was only one small table finishing up, no line of customers, or pickups walking in and out, no visible backlog of orders, and the dining area was clean/reset, making it clear they were not in the middle of a rush or large takeout order. We were told they would not start the pizzas until 4:30 and they'd be ready 15 minutes later--exactly at the scheduled pickup time. While I understand wanting to honor pickup windows, the inflexibility felt excessive given the circumstances. There was so much hype around rose pizzeria when they won best pizza at a world competition, we were sooo excited to try. So when the university is on spring break, we took the opportunity to make a reservation for an early dinner on a Friday. They have a patio but all the seats were taken so we sat inside. The menu had some very interesting entries and our eyes immediately honed in on she wolf (tomato sauce, burrata, olives and capers with garlic confit) and the seasonal appetizer strawberry burrata. My friends and I ordered takeout and got 3 pizzas which cost $80 total. The pizzas are such good quality. I love the mushroom pizza and the pepperoni one. It's when the pepperoni are small crispy cups-- they do it just right. We also ordered the green pizza which was okay. We just heated them in the oven when we got them at home and they tasted so good. We also got a side of their house made ranch. I've been wanting to check out this place for some time now and it did not disappointed. They have an indoor and outside area, and the outside area is super cute and great for a nice sunny day. Was in Berkeley around lunchtime last week and got to try Rose Pizzeria for the first time, and I gotta say, I was impressed. For starters we went with the spicy Caesar salad, which was so good. Top 5 restaurant salads I've had, and would order every time. For pizzas we went with a cheese pizza and the Louie-louie. If it's my first time to a place I always have to try the cheese. The ratio of all the ingredients was on point. Crispy crust too, just how I like it. The Louie-louie is a white sauce pizza with fennel sausage. This was a great compliment to the cheese pizza because the flavor profiles were so different from each other that it was like having the best of both worlds. This place is epic! They opened up a location in SF but we couldn't go so we went to the berkeley location and it didn't disappoint. For vegetarians, it's a gold mine. The pizza is cooked with a char, which I would have thought too charred, but it was perfect and awsome! Our service was great! Opening at 12 noon and within 5-10 minutes of opening, we arrived to notice that half the restaurant is already full!? The Italians peaked centuries ago. They know very little about anything anymore. This, does Rose toss the 50th best pizza in America? Probably not. But, try it anyway. Unless you decide to delude yourself, the pizza will not live up to it's reputation. Essentially a NYC style pie, Maillard browning distributes evenly along the crust. A good chew from well developed gluten. Not too chewy: evidence perhaps of the use of a biga. Yet, the bread lacked flavor. On my way in I saw a three-top of girls in their mid 20s with a saucer full of discarded crust. I thought, chicks and their fear of calories. Not wanting to pack on extra fat during bikini season. First time eating at Rose Pizzeria in person after ordering takeout in the past, and it absolutely delivered. Takeout was always solid, but dining in is a whole different experience. They have indoor seating and a covered patio outside. We got the spicy Cesar salad which we enjoyed! It was well dressed and a little different from your average Cesar salad. For the pizza, we got the Old Faithful (sausage, peppers, green onion) and the She Wolf (burrata, garlic, olives, capers and added the anchovies). Both were with red sauce and they were delicious! We got there a little before 12 and they open at 12. There was already a small line of about 5 people standing in front of the restaurant. They let patrons in a little before 12 and people were asking if they can get pizza to go and they said yes (this would not be a good pizza to take to go due to the thin dough getting soggy). The patio is very ugly with a plastic roof and looks like a shed. There were probably 30 flies hovering underneath the plastic roof of their patio and luckily they didn't touch our food but definitely not the vibe we prefer for dining. We ordered a pepperoni and basil pizza and it was like a medium pizza but since it's cracker thin, it felt like a regular small pizza in our stomaches. The slices were not well cut and there were two slices that were 2/3 of the pizza. One slice was the size of a baby's hand. The interior is non-descript and I'm not sure if it's much better than the patio minus the 30ish flies. The pizza was very light with minimal sauce and cheese but covered in small pepperoni that was overly salty. It had a good amount of fresh basil leaves that added an extra dimension to the flavor but overall, the pizza tasted mostly of salt so I do not recommend their pepperoni and basil pizza. People next to us had a mushroom pizza and that would have been my first choice but hubby is a meat eater so we had pepperoni and basil. The best part of the pizza was the super light and perfectly chewy yet crispy crust. The pizza dough is made of high quality flour and the ingredients are fresh but in terms of flavor, Cheese Board is still number one for me. This is possibly one of the best classical style pizzas I've had overall. I like Little Star for deep dish pizzas. This place is voted as a top 22 pizzeria in New York Times and that's why we came here today. Definitely a good pizza but the ambiance is a bit depressing especially with the flies and white plastic roof. We didn't make a reservation in advance so tried our luck Sunday around 5:30pm, we were seated after about a 10 min wait - very small space in front, I believe more tables out back. Toasted bread slices were tasty - Champione with red sauce (3/5): We enjoy mushroom pizza but prefer red sauce, so we asked for a substitution over the default white sauce. Pizza came piping hot, but upon picking up a slice everything slid off the base. Center was very soggy, no hold, not sure if it was because of the red sauce. Otherwise the crust was more dense than other reviewers make it seem (e.g. crispy cracker thin). Good chew though, but it was also a bit on the saltier side. Pretty nice! Our favorite was the red sauce "she wolf" with capers. The white sauce one with broccolini was interesting, and the margherita was nice, though greasier than I'd hope for. I made a reservation a day before and got one the next day for 8PM on a Sunday. I'd highly recommend making a reservation for this place because it is very packed inside. We were seated shortly after arriving. The service was brisk and to the point. The indoor seating felt a bit small but they do also have an outdoor patio space as well. Parking is a bit challenging but it is conveniently located near a lot of public transit options such as the 51B and Downtown Berkeley BART. To start, I shared the Tangerine & Burrata. The burrata had a creamy, mild taste that was easy to eat. I loved it with the focaccia bread and the tangerine pieces. For pizza, I got one of the pizza specials which was the Spicy Fig (fig jam, raclette, mozzarella, Fresno chili, red onion, and arugula). I absolutely love the taste of arugula so I was stoked that it was a topping on this pizza. The food came out quickly. The center of the pizza was soggy but toward the crust it was crisp. I wish there was a bit more fig jam on the pizza and that there was more of a kick from the Fresno chilies. I cannot resist tiramisu so I shared a slice of that for dessert. The sea salt on top balanced out the sweetness. This was my favorite part of the meal. Overall, I thought the pizza was good and the service was average. We have high expectations for Rose Pizzeria, as it won accolades as one of top 22 pizzerias in the country. We dropped in on a Saturday noon and the outdoor patio was fully booked, so we put our names on the waitlist for the indoor dining space. We waited only about 10 minutes. We ordered the spicy caesar salad, the champione pizza and one of the specials, and added the olive oil cake for dessert. The spicy caesar salad was excellent. It actually wasn't very spicy. The calabrian chili dressing was mild and delicate. The shared culture miso used was not very heavy, so it was light and not overbearing. Even our two teens who normally are not into salads, enjoyed the caesar salad. We enjoyed the two pizzas. The thin crust was baked to perfection and was crispy. The Champione pizza was generous with the roasted mushrooms. I forgot the name of the special pizza, but it was a red sauce pizza with mozarella, and pickled jalapeno. This one was my favorite. By this time we were pretty full, but the olive oil cake was a must have. The cake came with an apricote compote and the combination was heavenly. I didn't really want to like this place. The needing of a reservation and an odd reminder for the confirmation to be mindful of your time eating. Plus parking could be tricky. All the hassle for "just pizza." The dining area was a bit cramped. The outside patio looked more low key and intimate. Staff was friendly and helpful though. We couldn't decide and got 3 pizzas: Alpine Gold (potato lovers), She Wolf (burrata, capers, garlic), and pep and basil (pepperoni and basil). All were really good with their own unique flavors. Slices were big and 6 slices per pizza, and ingredients didn't fall apart. The bread was nice and chewy. The waitress made it fit on the tiny table I'd definitely come again. One of our not-so-secret favorite places. Nothing beats a warm sunny day eating on their back patio with an aperitif, spicy Caesar, Old Faithful or She Wolf pizza, and a chocolate dessert. It's perfection and bliss all at once! I'm grateful every chance I get to have a meal there. read more

To be honest, I yelped this while driving, to look for an alternative to Zachary's and knew nothing about it other than getting good reviews. It was late afternoon on a Sunday and apparently the patio is very popular because it was full the entire time we were there, but some tables in the front where we sat. Somehow we wanted a pizza that wasn't too salty so we nixed the pepperoni and sausage and also not spicy so that eliminated the spicy ones and the spicy Caesar, although it appeared popular. We had the margherita and the beans appetizer. The beans appetizer was more of a wintery dish but we enjoyed it. It had interesting combination flavors, was indeed hearty, and went well with a light pizza. The server did a good job of helping us with our choices and explained things well. The pizza was really good. We polished off the entire thing and we are not big eaters. Just came piping hot and had the right balance of everything. Had a good body, and a non overwhelming crust. As we ate, my kid kept saying she thought she was done, but kept eating and eating and that was that. One thing that we really enjoyed as an add on was the Zab's hot honey. We'll have to try it again on the patio next time. As sat by the window, throngs of people came by and it was barely 5pm, so it seems very popular. read more
