A coworker was looking for pizza by the slice, and another coworker recommended this spot--so of course, I had to try it! I ordered the special slice of the day: tomato, pesto, mozzarella, balsamic drizzle, and some other sprinkle of goodness... what I think was an orange sauce? Whatever it was, it WORKED. Ugh, I already can't wait to go back! I wanted to try the wings too, but I'll save those for my next visit. read more

Really wished I would have liked this pizza more especially after seeing how highly rated! Positives... The toppings were good along with the sauce and cheese. Negatives... After it comes out of the oven it gets a little oil drizzled on top but I wonder if it's got some spice kick to it? It made my lips a little numb. I like some heat just fine but my 2yo, maybe not so much. If it wasn't something in the oil then some cross contamination from the jalapeño half. It definitely seemed like something else though. Besides that I'm not really a fan of so much cornmeal on the bottom of the pizza. The dough and crust seemed a bit too dense as well. read more

Actually decent pizza, very close to a NYC slice in crust and hydration percentage but very small slices. I know rent is expensive but flour and water make up 60% of your cost. I shouldn't be done with my slice after 4 bites. Most likely same owners as Rotten as this was the reason I only came here once. read more

Second timer here... I ordered a small chicken enchilada pizza, hot wings and lemon pepper wings. The wings were a little big for my liking bc my preference is the smaller wings. Don't get me wrong, the flavor was def there! I also ordered the chicken enchilada pizza.. OH EM GEE! One of the best pizza's I've had in a long time. On my previous post, I stated that the slices were too thin but that actually worked with the chicken enchilada pizza. Owners are always nice and accommodating. Great addition to the Emeryville community! read more

I was extremely disappointed with my experience. I ordered one regular Margherita pizza, and one regular truffle pizza plus three additional slices. The total came to $95, which is outrageous given the quality of the food. The employee taking my phone order did not listen carefully, which caused confusion when I arrived. One pizza wasn't ready, so the other sat out and got cold while I waited. I was then handed the remaining pizza afterward, making the experience even worse. Overall, the pizza was below average, bland, and not enjoyable. For this price, I expected something memorable, not disorganized and disappointing. I left feeling cheated, as neither the quality nor the service matched the cost. I don't mind paying premium prices for premium food and service, but this delivered neither. I can't recommend this place based on the value or overall experience. Cheers. read more

This new pizza place replaces rotten city pizza in Emeryville. It sits in the industrial area of Emeryville. There is no parking lot, but street parking is always available nearby. If you park on Hollis, be careful they patrol it frequently for parking tickets. But if you park on any side street, it's free for all parking. The pizza is here are hot and ready and available by the slice. The pricing is approximately the same as rotten city pizza was previously. Period. The staff here is friendly and helpful. The interior of the place is small and it's really not intended to be an eat in tight place. There's a little courtyard on the side. I recommend eating in the courtyard if you want to eat there. read more

After some grocery shopping at Berkeley Bowl, the kids were getting hangry. I came upon Pizza Gallery while driving down Hollis and recognized it from a video that came up for me on social media. This restaurant is operating in the same space as the former Rotten City Pizza. When we arrived we noticed the great music and awesome artwork on the walls. We ordered the Picasso Pepperoni and lemon pepper wings with fries. The owner was really nice and suggested I go with the 18" pie rather than the 12" and man was he right! The food arrived promptly and piping hot. The quality of the ingredients, especially the halal beef pepperoni was simply unmatched. The kids loved the pizza and wings. The wife said it was the best pizza she'd ever had. All in all we'd love to give this place 6/5 stars! read more

Got an amazing 12-inch cheese pizza. Incredible flavorful crust that was not necessarily sourdough, but had really good yeast flavor. Crust was thin and retained its crunchiness and zero flop. Very enjoyable pizza that felt light to eat. Not greasy. Would definitely go back. A refreshingly different style for the Berkeley and Emeryville area that lacks options like this. Nailed it! Crust, sauce and cheese all top notch, in the right proportions and perfectly baked in a proper pizza oven. Please just keep doing what you did tonight. To the reviewer who complained about "burnt crust", the char on the bottom is intended and not by accident. You could always order lighter crust if this doesn't work for you but I think it is great. Pizza Gallery is seriously one of the best pizza spots I've found--especially for halal options. The crust is perfectly crispy, the toppings are loaded and fresh, and every bite actually hits different compared to typical pizza places. I don't know why the pies cost so much, but they are only a few blocks from our place, so I want to support the few restaurants that set up shop in West Oakland. However, I'm starting to sour on this place. I don't mind overpaying for pizza; that's just edible, but on a few occasions, I've been appalled by what these folks try to get away with. A couple of months ago, they gave us a pie that was so burnt I had to call to complain, and they replaced it with a less burnt pie. Perhaps they don't know that extremely burnt food is full of carcinogens. This week, we ordered our usual 18-inch pie. This pie was a Frankenstein pie; half of it tasted like it had been sitting under the lamp all day. A telltale sign is how stiff the cheese is; the old dough feels as if I'm chewing on rubber, and the slices are stiff and salty overall, though some slices taste a bit fresher and crunchier. I was disappointed. If you're going to overcharge for mediocre pizza, the least you could do is give people what they are paying for. If I wanted old, stale pizza, I would've asked for the slices that sit under the lamp all day. Moving forward, if we order from this place, I will walk over, place the order, and wait for it, so we don't get cheated again. This place is a reminder of why certain restaurants often fail. The food is overpriced, and they are inconsistent with their service, if not disrespectful, in how they sometimes treat and feed their customers. The pizza itself is AMAZING. Just as I announced the Yukon potato pizza was my favorite I had marinated artichoke with Bulgarian feta. These innovative veggie combinations make meat toppings obsolete. Yes, I mean that. Also - Dimond pizza turns me into a Homer-Simpson-sees-a-donut pizza response customer.

Live in Jack London square but haven't tried Heshers since the Crooked City Cider changeover. So glad I gave this a try. While Heshers gives this punk rock, aggro vibe online, inside the staff were warm and super friendly. My bartender helped me find the right drink (a Humboldt blueberry cider at 11% abv) and then I ordered the Meat Fungus pizza (lots of ground meat plus mushrooms). Sat at the bar and enjoyed my cider as well as convo with the other guests and bartender. In about 20 min, my pizza was ready. I took everything to go but was home in minutes. Couldn't wait for the first bite, and was NOT disappointed. Crisp crust pizza... not quite Detroit. Not Sicilian... def not New York style. But absolutely delicious. Came with a few packets of Parmesan and crushed peppers. Added it all and it was too good to leave a single slice for tomorrow. I'll be back, Heshers! Take my money! And thank you!

A small space with a little pick up window and several individual slices to choose from in a lovely neighborhood, which has a handful of groovy, little eating spots, etc. This pizza is the way it should be, thin crust, well prepared, interesting toppings, and freaking delicious!!! The kind of place that could be on just about any corner in any city worldwide! Tonight I had a slice of spinach with garlic and chili oil with some terrific tomato sauce, which made my taste buds explode with "joy-uh"....... (Gioia is most commonly pronounced as "JOY-uh") In Italian, gioia primarily means joy or delight. This is as good as if not better than any pizza tossed within 500 miles! There is another location on Hayes Street in San Francisco. The only area that needs some improvement is in the staffing and service. I've been going there for years and it is reminiscent of a DMV facility. "Now serving G 30 at Window #8." *********************************** Have a slice, take a whole pie home!

It's our neighborhood go-to, and we eat here at least once a week because the pizza is truly excellent. For nearly two decades, the staff was always friendly, but over the last couple of years, the front-of-house service has drastically gone downhill. The people taking the orders consistently seem like they don't want to be there. I've been overlooking the cold attitude for a while now because we love the food, but my experience today was the last straw. I ordered a whole pie and politely asked to have it double-sliced. The cashier looked visibly annoyed by a simple, standard request. It got worse when the pizza was ready: after she handed me the box, I kindly asked for a few paper plates. She literally threw the plates at me with a glaring look of unhappiness. I was honestly in shock by her behavior. Stunned, I asked her what her name was, and she flat-out refused to tell me. There is absolutely no reason to treat a regular, polite customer with that level of hostility over plates and a name request. I believe people need to be held accountable for how they treat others, especially in customer service. Looking at other recent reviews, I see that I'm definitely not the only one feeling this way. Gioia has been one of our absolute favorite pizzerias in Berkeley for over 20 years, but it's a shame to see a great neighborhood spot ruined by the attitude of the people taking orders. I am truly hoping management and the owners will read this and take real action. The food is still great, but the toxic energy at the front counter is ruining the experience, and loyal customers shouldn't be treated like an inconvenience. This incident happened today at 1130am.

There are no tables nearby, but I highly recommend eating this pizza as close to your pick up time as possible (which for me meant downing a couple slices in the car). Brief Summary: - Close to the Downtown Berkeley BART station…read more- Indoor and outdoor seating available - Right next to it there is a shop where you can purchase slices and ingredients Lately, this is the family's favorite pizza place. The first time we tried this was a few years ago, and one of my family members wanted to try a new place to eat pizza and had been exploring one almost once a month cadence. Then we tried here, and we were amazed and became our favorite. One of the reasons why we like going here more often than the other restaurants, the food of course, but the comfortable restaurant atmosphere. Still to this day we chose to walk-in and test our luck than take a reservation, and so far we were able to get a seat. In the most recent visit, there was a university game, so there was a longer wait time. The good thing about waiting was there were dedicated seats to wait, or in the first few minutes we hung out in the shop next door. Here, visitors can choose to buy and take home a slice instead of dining in, order food or shop for ingredients. The pizzas we've eaten so far are the Sicily style and this one has a lovely texture. Its appearance is like pillows. It's lightly-crispy on the edges, even the under-layer. It holds the pizza toppings without bending. We also tried a pizza named the most thinnest pizza, and we loved this one too. This one was located under the Speciality menu, so this didn't have topping customization. We loved that while it was very thin it still held the toppings too. I also love stracciatella cheese, so I also tasted the milkiness while eating this slice. We've also loved the pasta and have been trying a new menu each time. The one we tried recently had a fun texture, like a gentle crunch, and the pesto sauce was easy to eat, didn't get heavy in the end of the meal. I also tried a salad that was being served to most of the tables on this particular evening; a bowl of purple leafs, purple onions, and beets. The chicory leaf had a subtle bitterness to it, but with the sweet beet, it balanced it out. I also love goat cheese, and it was creamy. Wrapping up the review, it gave me a soft joy when the staff recognized and greeted us. The staff were kind and attentive since our first visit,, so his was another part that we liked during our eating experience. We'll definitely visit again when we're craving pizza.

I tried their pie for the first time, sharing a She Wolf pizza and spicy Caesar between our party of two. They strictly serve 14 inch thin crust pies, which is a decent amount of food split between 2, if you supplement with a starter course. The She Wolf, littered with olives and garlic confit, is sublime, and the dollops of burrata thoughtfully portioned on every slice make a rich, excellent contrast to the tangy sauce underneath. I'd imagine Portnoy being likely pleased with the undercarriage, which was stiff enough to not forfeit any of its structural integrity nor toppings to the almost-inevitable flop.
