Incredible. Everything we ate was delicious and artfully presented. Started with a warm focaccia style bread, on the house! Got salad good balance blue cheese olive pistachio arugula. And ooooo the tortelli bolognese was exquisite, well portioned, rich but you know not too much. AND THE TIRAMISU. We get it any time it's on a menu. This was special one, extra liqueur bite on top. Walked in on a Saturday and was immediately seated. There aren't a lot of tables but that's the charming part about the restaurant. The vibes reminded me of me as a kid going to a pizza restaurant after winning a basketball ball game, especially with the whole cup of Parmesan cheese sitting table side. The server was great, he walked us through the menu and the way he described each dish, made us want to order everything off of the menu. This was my first time here and I absolutely loved it! I ordered the bolognese and was so happy with how generous the portion was - tons of noodles and plenty of meat. The complimentary bread came out piping hot and made the perfect appetizer. The space is pretty small, so it does get busy - I'd recommend coming early. We were a bit cramped at our table, but it wasn't a huge deal. We were lucky to be seated quickly since they had a table for four available on a Sunday evening. Walked in on a warm summer Friday Night and was able to get a table right away in this intimate European style restaurant. Service was very pleasant upon our arrival, checked in on us regularly, and patiently waited for us to close out our tabs as we finished our meals even as it was getting closer to closing time. The best part: the food. We were tempted by previous photos of the Spaghetti Sugo and Meatballs and it was exceptional. The homemade sauce is so flavorful and was our favorite of the evening. The pictures of the meatballs should come with a warning label "much larger than pictured" because each delectably tender sphere stood proudly on the pasta serving It looked like an edible Italian Mountain Range. I ordered three and easily could have been satisfied with two, much respect if you can put down four of these in one go. We also tried the pappardelle bolognese which was very delicious and distinctly different than the sugo options, very much worth trying if you have enough space. The warm bread appetizers are dangerously addictive with the butter, save some to wipe up the leftover sauce on your plate. We (somehow) had room for dessert and opted to share a cannoli which was made perfectly, not too sweet and a nice crunchy roll to go with the cream filling and chocolate chips. The powder on top made it super decorative and gave me LITTLE ITALY NYC WINTER VIBES, very nostalgic to the east coast neighborhoods I frequented. Including this in my 2025 Pizza Reviews but to be honest I was so full from the free bread and burrata it was tough to gauge the pizza properly. This may have one of the best free breads in America - fresh, hot, soft, perfect for butter and dipping into sauces. We waited about fifteen minutes at 8pm on a Saturday to get seated, they're consistently crowded and busy every night so we expected a little wait. Great server that's always around, true pro that will check on you and throw in tons of one liners. Plenty of other staff constantly checking on you and refilling water. A+ service The pizza we ordered was the Michelangelo, we happened to be sitting next to a small painting of the pizza at our table so we naturally were attracted to that as a recommendation - pesto, ricotta, olives, artichokes, tomatoes. Obviously nothing wrong with that. For the amount of toppings I was amazed that the crust was sturdy and crispy underneath, it never got soggy and held up to still eat with your hands. The crust here is unique, soft and crunchy and also perfect for dipping into sauces from the pasta you will order. I'm not a huge pasta person but the spaghetti was amazing, the sauce is likely made daily with love and care. Overall, great spot for a date or family in town. Super small restaurant but very homey feel to it. Highly recommend the Pappardelle Porcini and their special pasta of the day. Came here on a Thursday night with family and there was a 30 min wait. We ordered family style so we can try out everything. The tables are very small so it felt a bit cramped since we had our own plates along with all the dishes on the table. Our server was very friendly and service was fast. My favorites from the dinner are the burrata, the pappardelle porcini with mushrooms, the ravioli special. read more

LoCoCo is a longtime neighborhood restaurant. I was introduced to the Piedmont location by a Cal student in the 80's whose Sicilian family gave it the stamp of approval. Decades later of meeting friends and bringing my family with toddler in tow, it is still excellent. Joseph, my server, recognized me even though I frequent the Berkeley LoCoCo over the recent past. This Piedmont location is still a cherished restaurant. House-made pastas with flavorful sauces. The old favorites are still stellar and the pizza is always freshly served from their oven. Service is warm and full of humor; Joseph is charming and lives to describe the dishes to the newer customers. It's like "Cheers" on Piedmont Avenue for the regulars. There are no reservations so come early and enjoy that fabulous house-made focaccia. read more

What a quaint little spot for amazing Sicilian food. If I could describe the ambiance, I would say it is cozy and small, consisting both indoor and outdoor seating. The flavors are spectacular. My friend introduced me to this location yesterday, but I feel like I will definitely be back again, even though I live a bit far from this restaurant. Apparently they have another location in Marin County and also Berkeley! The service was wonderful. The host was on top of it, making sure we received our orders correctly, are enjoying our meal, and constantly ensuring that our drinks are refilled. An Italian place that meets my standard? Unbelievable ;-) Kidding aside, I landed here totally by chance. Had a friend from out of town visiting and he was craving pizza. I convinced him that he was craving Chinese, because I hadn't been to Holly's Mandarin down the street in forever. Little did I know that they are only doing takeout these days. Bummer! While we stood in front of Holly's and bemoaned our faith, a nice couple stopped and told us that we should try our luck at Lo Coco's. We had nothing to lose and took the chance. Good thing we did! Since it was Friday evening, there was a bit of a wait, but after about half an hour we were seated and promptly had some warm and wonderful bread and butter in front of us. And the evening continued to be filled with yummy food. We shared a salad with cranberries, blue cheese and an amazing vinaigrette (and more bread of course). Then I went with the linguine vongole and my friend chose a vegetarian pizza. Both was amazing. Since I'm not a big wine drinker, I tried their Italian "Coke Zero" - the brand is "Mole" and I really need to get my hands on this! My friend had a great red wine and told me that he would never be able to get a wine of that quality for that price down in Southern Cali. I took his word for it, he was happy... Just had supper from Lo Coco's Piedmont. We had Fettucini Alaska, Eggplant Parmigiana and a Green Salad. Food was outstanding. The Fettucini had wild smoked salmon in an Alfredo sauce that was delicious. The Eggplant Parmigiana was also exceptional. Baked, without breading, which I think takes away from the rich blend of tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese and basil. The portion was very generous, allowing for cross sharing. The green salad was fresh chopped romaine and tomatoes with a light vinaigrette dressing. Very tasty. Delicious fresh baked bread was included with our meal. Highly recommend this family restaurant that has been a fixture for years in Piedmont. read more

Walked in for dinner and it was okay. We got meatballs, which had such a soft texture. I'm glad they weren't hard like rubber, but I don't know how I feel about the almost mushy texture. Kind of bland, but not overstated at least. My pasta was good- I liked the big pieces of mushroom, the pasta texture was perfect, and the sauce was nice (wine and butter). But if you look in my picture you can see there is a produce sticker stuck on the plate by the spoons! I didn't even notice it when I took the pic. But neither did the cooks or server. The wine I got was awful and I wish I'd asked to taste it before I bought a glass (that I had only two sips of before giving up). The pizza was fine. As for the environment, it's pretty loud and cramped. Not much room to move around because of the mix of high and low tables in the very small dining area. Maybe sitting outside would have been a better option. This place seems to be a neighborhood favorite- and it's fine- but I definitely prefer Creekwood. read more

Came here on a very busy friday night! Signed in on their waitlist and was told the wait was about 30-40 minutes. Wasn't a problem- got to stroll piedmont avenue in the meantime. When i came back, i was seated and quickly attended to by Joseph! He was super friendly, took the time to explain the menu, and got me a fresh plate of their flatbread. I ordered the fettuccine campagnola w an aperol spritz to go with it. The spritz was perfectly made and the pasta was so good- perfect portion, too. One of my favorite parts was that they leave a whole cup of parmesan cheese on your table so you can add as needed. A much overdue review! This place was our go to during COVID and we are so so happy it is back to dine in. Where to start... The pizza. The crust is just perfect. The toppings are premium and unique and they will cater to your needs. My order is artichoke, Kalamata olives, and mushrooms. My husband gets meat on his side and he loves it. It heats up perfectly the next day. Get the Parmesan on the side...no idea where they get it but it is 10 stars. The bread! I grew up with my mom making all of our bread, this reminds me of it. The olive oil...the manager told me it's a special blend. Get the burrata special they have sometimes or the caprese. The olive oil is just beyond delicious, nutty and light. The hand made raviolis! I like all of them. Their salads are huge and delicious. The red wine vinegar dressing is just lovely. Tiramisu...so perfect. One of my favorite deserts of all time and theirs is moist and espresso forward. If they have olives for sale, get them, you will not be disappointed. Service is friendly and feels like home. My friend and I stumbled on this place on Saturday night as we were trying to find a place to eat. The restaurant was packed so we waited outside for a few minutes while a table opened up. During that time, we were offered some drinks while we waited, and Joseph came out to walk us through the menu. The wait was really quick, and we were sat inside. While we were deciding on what we'd have, Joseph literally walked by with different dishes and told us what each of them was so we could see them before ordering. We over ordered. Like, a lot! But we wanted to try all the things and figured left overs were not the worst thing. *Burrata - delicious! *Half smoked salmon, half artichoke pizza - these were so good! Would absolutely recommend, and my favorite out of the two was the smoked salmon. *Eggplant parmesan - my friend loved this (I thought it was fine personally) *Linguine with clams - delicious *Tiramisu - really loved this *Cannoli - I preferred the tiramisu, though my friend loved this. Overall, absolutely loved the meal and would come back! The service was absolutely lovely on every level! Joseph was great, as were the other servers. To start off with, we couldn't get enough of the on-the-house fluffy buttery bread. Joseph is the guru here, he gave us a fantastic run down of each menu item, from the pastas to the pizzas to the wine. We opted for the Spaghetti alle vongole and the good ole' cheese pizza, both were fantastic. The clams tasted of the ocean, the pasta was al dente and gently salted. The pizza was amazing, the bread base again was fantastic and not too charred. It was quite heavy and we could only finish half of it, but it tasted great the next day too. The sauce and cheese came together really nicely, it was as good as any pizza we had in italy even. read more

Disappointing experience. This place had a wait on a Saturday, probably because it is so close to the Piedmont movie theater. We booked a reservation for a party of four well in advance. The restaurant has no ambience to speak of - bright lights, tables packed close together. Service was impatient and overwhelmed. To start this review off, I have never taken the time to write a review for any place ive ever been to. Having me write a review shows an outstanding quality, or lack thereof. This one is the former. I have NEVER had pesto that tasted this good and fresh. You can taste each individual flavor in the sauce, the crushed nuts, etc. The table bread was spectacular. It should've been an orderable item. Lo Coco's is one of those restaurants that just wins your heart with its food and its service! Walking into Lo Coco's gives you the impression that this casual spot will serve you average, casual food, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. This restaurant, known for its pizza dough is so much more than a pizza joint... the pasta dishes are out of this world! I ordered the Combination pizza, since the pizza is frequently spoken about this place. My wife ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana and we also ordered the Tortelli with Pesto. The pizza definitely lived up to the hype, which normally is never the case. The crust had a great crispness to it and the toppings are high quality. My wife commented on how good her Eggplant Parmigiana was... the Tortelli with Pesto though was amazing!!! I will come back for that dish alone, it was just simply divine. As for service, Joseph was our server and he was just simply amazing. He added to the whole charm of the restaurant; since it was our first time, we spent the time going through the menu with us. Lo Coco and I go back a ways. I mean way, way back as I used to live two minutes away and would get their delicious pizzas quite often when calories didn't mean a thing to me. I had not been back in ages, but Jamie W. and I found ourselves strolling on Piedmont Avenue from the Mountain View Cemetery. I saw this spot and immediately flashed back to my pizza-saturated youth. I convinced Jamie we should dine here. Although their pizza menu was as robust as ever, we redirected our attention to the alluring pasta dishes they offer. Jamie went for the $20 Penne alla Puttanesca, one of his home kitchen favorites thanks to our friend, Italiano master Linda. Lo Coco's is one of our favorite family dinner spots on Piedmont Ave. Everyone is so friendly and the food is fantastic. Simple menu but high quality. We especially love the pesto pasta and the margarita pizza. The inside is quite small and cozy so sometimes it can feel a bit cramped but it has never bothered us too much. Went for the first time late October the atmosphere felt off as soon as we entered people staring almost as if we weren't fully welcomed as others were. The service was not as attentive as other customers. The food was bland and I won't be returning. I let the cashier know when paying I did not enjoy my food in a nice manner and she kind of made an expression. Had to carb up for a race the next day and instantly thought, " perfect reason to go to Lococo!" I ordered my favorite, the eggplant Parmesan, which I know is not very carb heavy, but it's one of my favorite dishes. I had a bunch of bread at home that I could dunk into the delicious marinara sauce. The tiny restaurant was busy and it was of course a Friday night - unsurprising a line outside. There were a couple tables outside, which was a really nice add there aren't that many tables inside, really small place. I was glad I was ordering to go so I didn't have to wait but the wait didn't seem long, maybe 30 minutes is what I heard. The staff is excellent and very courteous. I order took maybe about 20 minutes and I was on my way home. Oh and I snagged an order of the tiramisu, even though the cashier said it was still a little too cold to eat as it was being defrosted. I told her it didn't matter. As expected, the eggplant Parmesan was huge and I ended up only eating a third of it. It'll be good for another two meals. The tiramisu I had the next day and I tried not to eat at all with great effort. I can hardly wait to finish it tonight With a lovely cup of coffee. I'll be back! read more

Ok, my family has been going to Lococo's for close to 2 decades. These last few trips for our favorite combination pizza have been confusing. There were instances where you couldn't find any toppings without using a magnifying glasses, so essentially we were eating all bread. Yet there were times where the dough didn't rise except for the edge, so imagine eating a piece of flat dough. In both instances, not appealing or appetizing. However, there were times when the pizzas were just delicious and unbeatable. So we're totally confused with what's been happening with our favorite pizza. To the owner and chef, please get it together and bring back the consistency in your combination pizza PLEASE!!!! read more
