Ichiban is a nice little Korean + Japanese restaurant on the north side of Austin that offers a variety of flavorful Sushi rolls as well as some of your Korean staples. My fiancé and I came in on a Friday night and the place was busy. The parking lot was completely full and it took some circling about until we could make it in. The waitress estimated a ~30 minute wait for a table but fortunately there were two bar seats available for us immediately. The staff was working at capacity and it took about 15 minutes of us sitting before we were able to put in our orders. Although the wait was not ideal, the chef at the counter went out of his way to present us with some comp'd sashimi and the waiter later brought us some miso soup, also on the house. Attentiveness to things like these always make a guest feel welcome and we were very grateful for the hospitality. We ordered a spicy tuna roll was alright, but the star of the show came through on the Korean food. They had one of the best Seafood Pancakes we've had in Austin and their ban-chan is top notch. A great place to get your pan-Asian fix if you're hanging around the north side. Overall, we had a great experience despite the busy-ness (which is to be expected on a Friday evening). Service was really nice, our waitress kept apologizing for the wait even tho I didn't feel the wait was too long. The sashimi combination was fine, I felt that the white tuna was not very fresh and the cut might be a bit too thick, takoyaki was flavorful and not overloaded with the mayonnaise, but the inside might be a bit heavy on the flour, wish there's more octopus inside, but you can def taste crispy cabbage out of it. This is an unassuming sushi restaurant on burnet road that seems to be part of old Austin. They have a beautiful fish pond where you can buy fish food to feed. The service is excellent and the food is consistent. They don't mess up your takeout orders (which is a valuable skill set in these times!) Great app pricing and higher prices for sushi - as it should be, you should want quality product when it comes to sashimi. I do remember them having great lunch specials but haven't been there for lunch in 1 year but the bento boxes were delish! I'm already thinking about the food again hours later. I have no complaints about the service -- our server was friendly and everything got to the table in a reasonable amount of time (about 15-20 minutes after ordering). Lunch today for my son and I was from Ichiban. They have decently priced lunch specials covering everything from bentos to sushi. I decided on the one roll sushi combo which came with 5 piece nigiri (chef choice) and a roll and my son got the chicken katsu bowl. Both meals came with a cup of miso soup and a side salad which is served with their homemade ginger dressing. I ordered online and went in to pick it up. That process was pretty painless beside the fact that it wasn't ready when promised so I had a little wait. My meal was pretty good. I don't know the names of all at the nigiri but I atleast know that I had tuna, salmon and shrimp. The meal comes with a California roll, however, for extra you can upgrade your roll (+$1 to $4 options). I chose the crunch roll (sweet krab, avocado and tempura flakes) and I thought it was tasty. The miso soup had a good flavor and included small pieces of tofu and seaweed. The salad was ok but I didn't care for the ginger dressing much. I shook it up before I poured but it was super thick and gingery. My one complaint is that I got all the way home only to realize that they didn't even pack the rice for my son's katsu bowl ‍. Soo frustrating but luckily I had some leftover rice in the fridge from the other day so he had that but how do you even forget the rice?! ?! ‍ He did tell me that he still thought the katsu was good and it did come with a pretty generous portion. My go-to restaurant in Austin! I've been here probably over 30 times in the past 4 years. They have an amazing happy hour menu that consists of appetizers, drinks, sushi, and entrees. They have some of the best drink specials you can find. A pot of hot sake for $12?! That can go a long way. Their sushi is great quality, and the portions are huge. You definitely get your money's worth. I love that they serve Korean dishes in addition to traditional Japanese. Some of my favorite kitchen items are the Sashimi bimbimbab (get this if you're trying to be healthy) squid hot pot bimbimbab, and the Ichiban bulgogi plates! The seafood yaki udon is a must try!! Some of the best stir fry noodles I have ever had; the sauce is amazing. My favorite rolls are the happy ending, far west, flaming torch, white blanco, and mt. Fuji! All of their rolls are so good and they have a wide variety between fresh, cooked, and fried. This place is great for large parties as well! I made a reservation for 20 people and we got seated in a large sunken traditional booth-like table. Shoutout to Eddie, the owner and head sushi chef! He's so nice and will make anything you want upon request. I've been a long-time customer and during one of my birthday dinners, he gave me free appetizers! read more

They have some of the nicest koi fish before you enter into the restaurant. They do have sanitizer if you are afraid of covid. It was not really crowded when we went do it was no wait to sit. When you enter the front gates and cross the bridge you will notice below you below you is a Koi pond. Once you step in the door to your left side there is fish food and for a dollar you can feed them. We stood next to the aquarium and waited to be seated. They have booth seating that requires no shoes and/or table seating available. This place is a little bit older looking with dark wood paneling reminiscent of some of the older restaurant styles. The sushi and roll menu has full-color photos so it assists the customer to make an appropriate choice. They have a small wine menu and I quickly made sure a glass of plum wine was sitting in front of me. The larger menu has the non alcoholic drink options and the cooked food options. I was a little surprised to see that their prices were a little high. If you're going to charge me a lot for sushi and rolls I want to beautiful environment to enjoy it. I also prefer that if I spent $14 on a roll that is exceptionally delicious. I felt let down in these departments. For the price, portion size was large and the flavor was there. Came here for dinner at the end of happy hour. It wasn't crowded, so our group was able to be sat immediately. No complaints on service, our server was quite patient as we looked over the extensive menu and our food was delivered in a timely manner.
