Strawberry Confetti & Maple Glazed Donut
    Rishi C.

Swung by today for a sweet treat after seeing all the reviews, but unfortunately this place may be too overhyped. Duck Donuts is located next to Trade Food Hall in the rear corner of the plaza. The shop is cute and very on brand with the amount of rubber ducks that make up the place. Staff were friendly and quick to make our donuts. I got a strawberry confetti and maple glazed donut. The donuts were warm and fresh, however I wasn't a fan of the consistency (it was close to being mushy as the donut kind of fell apart as picked it up for a bite) or the aftertaste of the glaze. There's so many great donut shops in the OC to compete with that I'm not sure this place is worth going out of my way to visit. I really appreciate that everything was made fresh, but the flavors and consistency aren't for me.

Duck Donuts....but each duck is an additional charge.

I recently visited Duck Donuts cuz I like ducks. Overall, the donuts were fresh and tasted good -- you can definitely tell they're made to order, since you see them preparing your order, which I appreciated. However, I was a bit disappointed because I had thought (from seeing other post) that purchasing a dozen donuts might come with one of the regular "small" yellow duck as a novelty item. I think the worker said they have "free ducks" once a year there's promo day for it. I understand promotions may vary, but I was expecting that small extra touch to go with the name and was hoping for encouraging folks buying a dozen or two order. :(( And yes, while the donuts themselves were enjoyable, I did find the specialty donuts to be a tad expensive compared to what I anticipated. It was $30+ for the specialty dozen. The specialty flavor menu also changes with the season. I still enjoyed the donuts, I mean who doesn't on a Friday, and different flavors of the donuts.

Yeah we have a number one ! I'm sorry but this makes voodoo donuts taste like a Dunkin's in comparison. The freshly made glazed donut is a great way to taste what the donut is without the magic. And it's soft, chewy and perfectly sweetened. However if you want a bang for your buck go with the maple bacon donut! Yes Bacon. Also the service was spot on. Quick but also not too fast as they cook the donut to order ! And I couldn't get over the ducks everywhere. Omg the way I wanted to waste all my money on every duck.

Food: looks beautiful. Tastes amazing. Service: friendly, and open bright and early on New Year's Day. Ambiance: donut shop! Chill, should be an in and out experience.

Duck Donuts is a small donut shop located outside an Irvine plaza with a decently sized food area. I'm not much of a donut person myself, but this is probably the best place I've gone to that had them. The variety is huge and they're pretty much ready to get once you order them. Both the donuts I had were amazing, and to me, that means a lot just because I typically have criticism against donuts I try. They were genuinely just good and not too much, just the right amount for what they're worth. I loved the sugar donut the most out of these 2 and would come back to try more. Overall, if you want donuts and you're in Irvine, you should stop by Duck Donuts! They have a lot to choose from and I can vouch for them being just right. Plus, there's a ton of fun ducks in different styles that you can even buy if you want on their walls. I love that small aspect of the shop.

Honestly might be my new go to for donuts! Such a yummy spot for a sweet treat! This was my first time coming to duck donuts, and it did not disappoint at all. First of all, the donuts are really made to order so when you get your donut, it's so warm and the glaze is gooey. Just a perfect way to eat a donut! I loved the texture of the donut, it had the perfect airy dough and it wasn't oily at all despite coming directly off the frying station. The inside of the shop was so cute too! They had rubber ducks everywhere that you could buy. They have so many different options for flavors, even drinks! I'm excited to come by again

I understand why this donut place is rated so highly. The donuts are made fresh rather than sitting out all day like many other donut shops. There's so many different flavors and the donuts are all customizable. Since they're made fresh, they're nice and warm when you get them. I love that the donuts are very light and spongy rather than being super dense and overly sweet. The blueberry pancake was really good! Parking is easy and service is good!

This place stays consistently good as the years go by. Their seasonal donuts are so good too! Their donuts here are fresh and they make whatever flavors you want to order. It definitely has a cosy vibe with all their cute duckies. The gals here are so sweet and welcoming. As I waited to get my donuts, they were really helpful to new customers.

WOW! This donut shop is unlike any other. The donuts are made fresh and are so rich in flavor. My personal favorite is the Blueberry Pancake - right level of sweetness combined with the soft fluffy dough! It's located in a shopping plaza near KRISP fresh living and there's plenty of parking. This is one of my favorite dessert spots in OC! So delicious!

Cute ducks $2.50 each. I got the glittery one!

The ladies working here are so nice and patient! Beware they prepare custom, made to order donuts so either preorder or wait if you order more than one. A new customer stopped by to order 3 assorted dozens and had to leave when quoted 40 minutes. Donut texture isn't the typical raised, it's more of a crispy golden cake donut dipped and drizzled to perfection. I ended up changing my mind last minute but was happy with my order. Donuts: *Peanut Butter Paradise: pb dip with chocolate drizzle, added rainbow sprinkles free of charge! *Maple Bacon (a regular stopped by and raved about how delicious it is) *Coconut Island Bliss (chocolate dip, peanuts & toasted coconut) I originally wanted thin mint crunch but changed to pb. So good! Dip & drizzles were melty because the donut was hot off the fryer! The shop is cute with lots of little assorted ducks lined up along the windows and are for sale. I got a silver glitter duck for $2.50 + tax. I'd stop by again!

Delicious as always, the owner is always super nice and helpful. For a freshly made donut with toppings, the price is very fair (around $3.95) I love the sweet and rich and this place definitely hits the spot. We will always come back!

We got donuts here this morning. My daughter loves this place and I've never been there. So many different flavors. Made right in front of you! The kids enjoyed watching them be made. The lady working behind the counter was so friendly and helpful with recommendations.

Food: definitely beats holy grail! The donuts are fresh and very tasteful. I highly recommend their season special and if you like plain donuts I would suggest the cinnamon. Service: is great!! The staffs are very knowledgeable and knows what to recommend if you can't decided on which donut to get. Ambiance: super cute!! Lots of ruby ducks

When did you stop selling vegan donuts? Will they come back?

They still make vegan donuts, but you have to ask and they usually have to put the dough thru to make them.

What oil/fat do you use to cook the donuts? I heard it was duck fat but there's no information online to confirm.

    Soy oil

What are you holiday hours/Christmas eve?

Do you offer chocolate chips as a topping?

We have them as a seasonal and do have them if wanted in our Huntington Beach store for sure. They will be highlighted next year early.

Does Duck Donuts have chocolate cake donuts?

We will in December for a month

    Any keto donuts?

Hi which donuts are Vegan , are they labeled in the store?

We make a vegan dough and then the majority of our toppings and drizzles are vegan. The staff know exactly which are not vegan, depending on your need.

    Are there gluten free doughnuts?

No :( I asked on my last trip in there, they said they haven't perfected a gluten free donut yet. They do offer vegan but that's not gluten free, I know! Hah

Are there vegan donuts available in store? What flavors are available?

Yes. We now have vegan donuts in both stores at all times

Do you offer any dairy-free donuts?

We Now offer a Vegan Made to order donut which is dairy and meat free. Thanks for your patience.

    $2.25 1 donut $13.95 6 donut $19.95 1 dozen

I was slightly surprised that the price is close to $7 for a single scoop of ice cream on a cone, I guess I'm used to those days when ice cream used to be a dollar, but what I did appreciate was that they offered to put it in a cup for us because the portion they give is so generous that it doesn't fit on a cone. I actually wanted something a little healthier when I went so I chose the no sugar added pistachio, which was so good so creamy so delicious and full of pistachio nuts. I'm aware that there are other options nearby such as Dairy Queen at less than half the price of this, but if I had to choose again, I might still come back to Handel's because the single scoop could almost be enough for two people. We went with a few other families and none of the kids could actually finish their ice cream cone, which is actually good because that means you can share. The shop is especially good if you're planning to watch a movie at the Regal Cinema just next door.

The service was good and really quick, and the place is super chill. The menu of the ice cream place is also very extensive, so you can get a multitude of interesting flavors! I got the s'mores one and it was super delicious, with a graham cracker base, chocolate chips and gooey marshmallows. It was also super creamy and flavorful! The blueberry cobbler one is rich with that blueberry flavor, kind of like a blueberry pie. And the strawberry sorbet was not too sweet and refreshing and it's dairy-free. If you're looking for a sweet treat and don't mind having more than one scoop, go to Handel's!

However, I was still more than happy to check them out when my gf suggested coming here. All of their hype and praise was certainly a big reason why, as well as me wanting to see what Persian ice cream tastes like, but, quite simply, how could I ever say "no" to trying a new ice cream shop? Especially to cap off such a warm evening out! While I can't say how this location compares to their spot in LA, I liked how low-key and unassuming this place felt. Past the counter/register, there's a small amount of seating to the back, but there's also a bunch of seats and tables right out in front. More importantly, though, their display case of ice cream is chock full of enticing options. Inspired by ingredients and flavors from around the world, Saffron Rose's roster of flavors is quite diverse. What's more, from their Mango and French Espresso to their Saffron & Pistachio and Passionfruit, they all looked equal parts unique and delicious! -- FRENCH ESPRESSO While it may not have been quite as amazing as I had hoped, this was still pretty good. Although I wish the taste of the espresso had been more robust, it still had a decent coffee flavor to it that I really liked. -- PASSIONFRUIT I got this mostly because I wanted something a bit tart and citric to balance the French Espresso and it did the trick. The passionfruit was refreshing and I liked that the taste of it wasn't overly acidic. -- SAFFRON WITH PISTACHIO Presumably their namesake flavor? Either way, this may not have been my favorite flavor, but it wasn't bad. The taste of saffron was decently strong and I liked how the pistachios in this added some texture. -- MANGO Of all of the flavors I've tried, this is easily my favorite. Not only did it feel rather refreshing (especially on such a warm night), but it also had a surprisingly strong taste of mango to it. -- POMEGRANATE Unfortunately, this was pretty disappointing. Much like when I got the passionfruit flavor, I wanted something fruity and light to offset the pistachio, but this was a little bit sharp and acidic for my liking. -- GREEN PISTACHIO I love pistachios, so I had some high hopes for this one, but it missed the mark for me. For whatever reason, the taste of pistachios didn't come across as well as it did with the other flavors and the chunks of pistachios felt surprisingly soft. -- PINK ROSE My least favorite of the bunch, but, to be fair, I'm also just not a fan of floral flavors and the rose water showed up most prominently in this one. Even though the first couple of bites were okay, the taste of the rose was too much for me after that. Regardless of the flavor, one thing I noticed about Saffron Rose's ice cream is that they're somewhat similar to gelato, but with a slightly gummier texture to them. What's more, all of the ice cream is made with rose water, which, as mentioned, I'm not a huge fan of, though it was pretty subtle in all of them except the Pink Rose. Also, I didn't care for the wafers they give you either. While I appreciate that they can complement the ice cream well (they resembled those classic cake ice cream cones), the wafers had more of a soft, semi-stale texture rather than a crisp one (unless that's they way they're supposed to be). All and all, considering how they're one of the only Persian ice cream joints around, Saffron Rose is by no means bad in any way. At the very least, their ice cream is certainly unique and even better than some of the gelatos I've had. However, as someone who prefers a more classic, creamy scoop of ice cream, I think Saffron Rose is just okay. My gf, on the other hand, is definitely a fan, so I'm sure more scoops of their Mango and French Espresso will be in my future the next time we visit when we're back in town again! THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down.
