This was our first visit, and unfortunately, it was a bit underwhelming. While the presentation wasn't particularly impressive, that wouldn't have mattered if the food had been great. Sadly, the jasmine tea cheesecake was one of the worst desserts we've had. It tasted so unpleasant that we ended up throwing away what you see in the photo because we simply couldn't take another bite. The checkout experience was also a little unusual. The cashier told us the credit card machine wasn't working, so the only payment options were cash or sending a Zelle payment directly to the owner. There was a small handwritten sticky note with an individual's name and phone number for the Zelle payment, which felt a bit odd. To be fair, there wasn't a large selection available when we visited, so it's possible they have other pastries or desserts that are much better than what we tried. However, based on our experience, the item we purchased was disappointing, and the $12 definitely didn't feel well spent. On the positive side, the décor and overall aesthetic were lovely and were probably the bakery's strongest feature. But as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover... and you can't judge a bakery by its ambience either.

It is pretty great spot for quiet time. Ambiance is nice. They have an amazing layer sliced desserts but did not purchase. I will definitely check their layer cakes in the near future. Ordered Fruit Lime Tea Lychee Lime Tea Both were refreshing drinks with half added sugar, so it was perfect.
Limited options on display for a Saturday. Less than two hours into the Saturday and half the case was empty. The mille cakes, both tiramisu and hazelnut flavors, were disappointing. Hardly any espresso flavors or hazelnut flavors. It tasted like piles of crepes with no filling.
Yu Cake is an upscale dessert shop located just outside the Saks Fifth Avenue front entrance on the lower level of South Coast Plaza. Prices are expensive but the cakes are refined and delicious. They make excellent mille crepe cakes (as good as Lady M, seriously!) and they are available in many flavors. Shown in the picture here is my top favorite - the Tiramisu. Matcha and hazelnut chocolate are also very good. Their newest additions are yogurt mille crepe cakes, which I have yet to try - which give me good reasons to come back and indulge myself again! There are plenty of fruity teas to go with your dessert such as peach, strawberry, grapefruit, and my favorite, lychee. The teas all have bits and pieces of real fruits in them, which make the tea very refreshing.
Every time I stop by I try something new from Yu Cake, but every time, I haven't been impressed by my purchase despite the steep price tag. I wouldn't say the cakes are extremely expensive, but Yu Cake's desserts have not impressed us. We got the jasmine matcha yogurt millefeuille, taro box cake, the coconut milk jelly and the black sesame latte. Jasmine matcha yogurt millefeuille - 2/5 clearly a victim of too many flavors jammed together. The only thing that we could really taste was the yogurt Taro box cake - 3.5/5 not too bad but nothing super impressive. I did like that it wasn't too sweet, but a fluffy whipped cream may have made the cake lighter vs the buttercream they used Coconut milk jelly - 4/5 not bad at all. The milk flavor was a bit stronger than the coconut flavor tho Black Sesame latte - 4.5/5 I enjoyed this latte and found it to be the perfect amt of sweet. The black Sesame paste on the side of the cup wasnt sweetened either, ensuring the latte wasn't too heavy.
I was excited to try this place since the pictures of the cakes looked really good. This is located right next to Saks, and there's both indoor seating as well as seats outside the store in the main mall. Overall, was quite disappointed since the cake flavors were not strong at all. I got the hazelnut cake and the yogurt matcha and both flavors were very subtle. Good thing is the cakes were not too sweet, but there really wasn't much kick to it either. The yogurt matcha had more yogurt taste and really no matcha. The hazelnut itself also didnt have a strong hazelnut flavor. For the price (each were about $10 for the slice) and what you get, not worth.
Give a blonde curly hair in the cake yesterday. The staff was really polite & asked if we want to trade it in for a new one or grab another cake. We traded it in as the strawberry matcha cake looked better than it tasted - we got the tiramisu which tasted a lot better. Creamy but not airy as we would've liked. Ample tables & chairs outside & inside. They've a lot of cute cakes but it's a one-time for me.
Mango milk latte amazing: strong mango flavor and sweetness can be adjusted. I also recommend Watermelon tea and Soybean Coffee. Their egg sandwiches have corn: you can give it with imitation crab (labeled as seafood) or ham. The ham egg is better. Service is fast, but very unfriendly and upset or bored. The store needs elevator music or any kind of ambiance sound. I will come back to try desserts
Was at the mall and wanted a small sweet treat so found this place. Right off the bat the prices are a bit high for most pastries. I wanted to try the mango mousse cake but it was sold,so I settled with the matcha mousse for 10$. Overall it tasted alright, nice mousse texture,not overly sweet,matcha had a nice flavor but I don't think I'll be coming back though.
It's a cute cafe located right next to Saks on the bottom floor. There are various options for cakes, puddings, and drinks. Service is quick. Cafe itself is clean and is a nice place to study or chat. The pastries itself? Disappointing. Looking at the flavors, they were all so unique and interesting. I wanted to try them all! But when I did try them, I was left with the feeling that I was not going to return at all. What we got: - Tiramisu latte (3.5/5): It was meh. Not that memorable. Just your standard latte with some tiramisu type of foam. - Lychee Rose Crepe Cake (2/5): Man I was so looking forward to this. But I literally could not taste any rose, and lychee flavor was there too I guess? For a cake, it really even lacked sweetness to it. I know this is preferable when you pair it with a drink. However, for the price, I really wished that it taste like anything. - Mango Grapefruit Coconut Pudding (3/5): This one had more flavor, but still somehow kinda bland? The fruit lacked any sweetness or tartness. I only knew it was there because of the texture.
Stopped by while shopping at South Coast Plaza for their Mango Grapefruit cake, which is apparently one of their most popular cakes. It was delicious and not too sweet! The fruit tasted fresh on top and the cream/cake below was soft and smooth-- almost like tiramisu.

And here is my breakdown of these three cakes: 1) Matcha Mille Crepe: The crepe cake lacked sweetness and felt a bit bland. I could definitely taste the matcha, but it didn't have a strong tea flavor or any sweetness to it. The cake felt dense and I could not feel the texture of the crepe layers. It felt like I was eating a mousse cake, but not as dense as a cheesecake, but it was definitely close to it. 2) Hazelnut Mille Crepe Cake: This cake was sweeter, but it had the same issue. Felt dense and could not feel the texture or layers of the crepe, felt more like a mousse cake. 3) Tiramisu Mille Crepe Cake: This cake was probably the best out of the three. I'm not sure what they did this one, but I could actually feel like I was eating a mille crepe cake. Flavor was good and I can actually taste and feel the layers of the crepe cakes. Also these mille crepe cakes are not cheap and are on the more expensive side at $11 to $12 a slice. I do share in the same opinion that customer service isn't at the top here, the staff don't seem to greet you as you enter. What is one big positive, I would day is they have a great variety of flavors for their mille crepe cakes and they do have other types of cakes. It's unfortunate as I expected a lot more from here given the price point and it seems they fall short. Overall, it wasn't the best mille crepe cake I have had, but if you want to try, get their tiramisu mille crepe cake if I had to recommend something, but I don't think it was that amazing that I'd personally come back.
I'm a dessert person and I know I'm in a good dessert shop when I struggle to make a choice. This place had SO many kinds of cheesecake and some interesting boxed desserts. I love floral flavors and berries so I struggled to choose between rose cheesecake, rose/oolong milk based boxed dessert, and a blueberry cheesecake. I ended up going with the rose cheesecake - it was dense but really good! They had SO many other flavors that also looked amazing too, and plenty of seating/little tables right there in the store so you can eat or take your cake to go (comes in a cute little box). Would absolutely come here again if near south coast plaza and wanting dessert - it's an adorable little shop!

The tiramisu box cake or cake box is really yummy not too sweet. The jasmine lime tea is awesome... I absolutely love it. It hit the spot, so refreshing and kind of biting into a little bit of those little lime pieces in the drink just took it another level. I tried my husband's Jasmine Matcha, milk tea, and that was pretty good too very pretty as well... Nothing here was too sweet and I didn't have to ask for a reduction in sugar. Nice! Didn't get a five star because I like to pay with card but it's down and they only take cash or Zelle right now. It's decor is cute but the tables and chairs seemed awfully low so we sat outside and that table was just right... I feel like Goldilocks. LOL read more

Located in front of Saks Fifth Avenue at South Coast Plaza, they offer drinks and cute/colorful desserts. Lots of tables inside and in front of the cafe. You have an option of ordering at the front or using the kiosk. I enjoyed Peach Fruit Tea and Watermelon Fruit Tea but Matcha Creamy Milk was disappointing. I asked for extra matcha but was able to barely taste it. It just tasted like a glass of milk. read more
My first taste of mille-crepe cake! Matcha doesn't miss, and I can't imagine how hard this is to make! Every thin, spongy sheets is smooth as silk. Both the Matcha and the Rose-Lychee are light and not so sweet. Just lovely and classy cakes. The Mochi Mango Grapefruit Jar is really fun. Love the fruit contrasting with the stringy mochi and cake. I've never met a cake I didn't like, and I like Yu Cake too. It's perfect for a shopping break - it's so nice to be able to have a rich dessert that doesn't make you feel gross. read more
I hung out with a friend in Costa Mesa, and after lunch we decided to grab dessert. We found this cake shop inside South Coast Plaza through Yelp, and it was a great choice. The cakes were delicious and perfectly balanced, not too sweet, which I really appreciated. If you prefer lighter, less sugary cakes, this is definitely the place for you. The prices are on the higher side, but that's understandable given the location inside South Coast Plaza. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back. read more
Got a labubu treat here and it's so good! More than just a pretty face, haha! Staff were very friendly and brought out an extra flavor for me to pick. Their location is all the way down a long hallway but the search and walk are well worth it. read more
The overall ambiance of the place is nice. Pastries and cakes were all on display for your viewing pleasure but you can also conveniently order on their kiosk which has photos to help as well. I got the salted cream oreo box cake & matcha strawberry cheesecake slice. They both were good taste wise and not overly sweet. However I will say that for the size of each item, they were definitely priced a bit higher than what you would get at other bakery cafes. For this past weekend, we got to sample the watermelon tea which was quite refreshing! read more

Tucked away near Saks 5th Avenue on the first floor of South Coast plaza, you may not find this cute little cake store unless you were looking for it. My friend knew how much my kids liked Labubu, so he surprised me with this super cute cake! Not only did it bring a smile to my entire family's faces, it tasted great too! They also have other specialty cakes with interesting Asian flavors. Stop by if you want a special treat anytime! read more
After we had lunch we were craving a tasty coffee drink and was happy to see the selection of drinks Yu Cake has! Unfortunate there's no alternative dairy milk options but the drinks tasted great! You order on a screen. We had very little interaction with a human so some people may like that. Interior is very nice and has comfy seating and tables. The desserts looked amazing but we were too full from lunch to try one. read more

Me and my aunty want to Macy's and surprise to see Yu Cake. So excited want to try the cakes and coffee. The store near Saks, you can sit inside or outside the store. We ordered Hazulnut Cake and coffee. Cakes so cute and yummy. Coffee creamy and sweet. The service helpful and you don't have to wait to long for your order. Good job. Recommended read more

Wonderful little cafe at the SaksFifth corner of SouthCoastPlaza. Clean area, comfortable but limited seating. I enjoy coming here on Wednesdays or Thursdays when the crowds are minimal. The wkends are a zoo here. Service is excellent. Both the guy and girl servers (I'm guessing they're the owners) are very welcoming and helpful with the menu. I've tried all their drinks already and the watermelon refresher is THE BEST!! Not too sweet but incredibly refreshing, made with REAL watermelon. I've bought more than a dozen of these perfect drinks and every single time , it was a perfect choice. :) Another yummy drink is the UBE/purple yam "milk drink" --sooo YUMMY creamy, made with real Taro/ube paste. The Soybean Mochi coffee was nice too.....not too sweet, which is greatly appreciated (compared to other coffee shops). If you want a guilty pleasure drink, get the Yogurt Mango drink--delish! It's dessert in drink form. But my fave treat here is the MangoGrapefruit Mochi Jar. I made this my birthday cake because it was so darn yummy! :) and of course we cannot leave this place without buying several tins of the Salted EggYolk ChewyCubes. Expensive but sooooo worth the splurge! Overall, this is my favorite cafe for a nice afternoon break. Clean, great customer service and a nice "quiet" corner of the mall (depending on the day/time). Customers beware they charge a tip without you knowing even though we only bought two coffees to go that tasted so bleh we threw it away after a couple of sips. Not a pleasant experience. Wont be back read more

Stopped by Yu Cake a few days ago with a craving for something sweet. I wasn't familiar with their concept but the desserts in the display looked too good to pass up. I tried the Ube Box. It had a beautiful presentation but the flavor wasn't quite for me. My husband, on the other hand, went all in with two cheesecakes (no judgment, he's got a serious sweet tooth ). He absolutely loved the blueberry cheesecake. It was light, fruity, and creamy. The Oreo cheesecake was rich and chocolatey. Maybe a little too intense for my taste but my husband devoured it. What really surprised me was the latte. I was so grateful to see they offer lactose-free milk options. It was smooth and comforting. read more
Cute store with "beautiful" desserts & assorted cakes and such, right outside of Saks Fifth Avenue but everything is expensive. $10 got a piece of cake? I realize rent isn't cheap in this mall but I wish it tastes better. Their cakes were very beautifully made but lacked of flavor. read more

Absolutely beautiful, love the idea and how the cakes are presented! However price and customer service is not it! They are located across from the Macy's Men store. We came here in a Saturday evening and right away they did not greet or ask us if we needed any help. They were sold out of the mango one we were looking for so we opted for the raspberry chocolate one. It was $11 for the little piece of dessert we got! There was nothing special or mind blowing about it. I will not be returning here based on their prices and especially service! read more
Yu Cake is hidden in a corner of SCP. It has delicious cakes (crepe, cheesecakes, or mousse cakes). We tried the caramel coffee cheesecake which felt very coffee forward to me and just okay. We also tried the rose matcha something and that was the star! The mousse was soft, there was some jam inside. The cake on the bottom added a nice crunch. And look how cute everything is. read more

Randomly came across this dessert spot at South Coast with my cousin and niece one day and enjoyed every single thing we ordered! We tried the Mango Grapefruit Box Cake, which was light, fluffy, and wasn't overly sweet. Was skeptical of the grapefruit being too tart, but the tartness actually balanced the mango perfectly. We also had the Tiramisu Crepe Cake. It was soft, layered to perfection with a gentle coffee flavor. Not too heavy, just creamy and smooth with a little espresso kick. The star of the the show, in my opinion, was the Fresh Watermelon Fruit Tea and it was ABSOLUTELY refreshing. It's lightly sweetened and comes with fresh watermelon cubes, which makes it feel like you're drinking summer in a cup. Bonus: it's not syrupy or heavy like some other fruit teas out there. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Took the time to explain what was popular and made solid recommendations. Really nice cakes! I felt so boujee eating these lol! We got the chocolate raspberry and the cheesecake. The cheesecake was a bit frozen when we ate it, but it was still good! In hindsight we probably should have waited. The chocolate raspberry cake was very pretty and I liked it. Prices here are quite steep, as to be expected, so be prepared for that. Disappointed... You can barely taste the flavor of the cakes. "Not too sweet..." but in a bad way. Rose oolong cream cheese box cake -- could not taste the rose nor the oolong. I found some oolong powder folded within the layers yet it was still indiscernible. Everything is completely overpowered by a thick layer of cream cheese. The lychee jelly at the bottom is fun (same kind as the milk tea topping) but the cake was not enjoyable even without the glob of cream cheese topping. I tested out cream cheese to cake ratio. No winners here. My friends got: Tiramisu crepe cake -- it just tasted like airy cream. Oreo cheesecake -- again, no flavor. Light and bland. And they didn't like it too. So not worth it for the price point. :( Also this is at some corner of the mall so if you like the quiet, back hallway vibe and don't care about ambiance, then you will probably be okay. The bright white overhead lighting will not do you any favors though. read more
