Egg sando and tuna sando
Anna T.

Just came back from Japan and was already missing it. Walk around Mitsuwa and heard about this bakery inside for their coffee but decided to get an egg sando instead. It isn't the same as Japan since the crust is still on the sandwich and it isn't as creamy but it will do. Tuan sandwich is decent. I do want to come back to try their coffee tho! So many more stuff try back at this bakery.

Custard donuts

Love this Hamada-ya location for their Boston Cream and custard filled donuts. I can't not buy one or two of them whenever I am in the vicinity. It's probably an addiction of sorts. The not too sweet or dense but creamy custard is encased in a fresh fluffy dough. Never fails to put a smile on my face whenever I get to bite into one. It's best to keep them refrigerated and not keep them in room temperature setting. Even better if you can eat them the same day. Parking can be a challenge during busy hours at Mitsuwa as it's located within the same complex. It's not inside the food court side but instead, right by the prepared food section. This location also doesn't take Amex. Something to keep in mind. Looking forward to getting my fix in the future again.

Review 14 of 2025 This bakery is inside the Mitaswuva supermarket near the hot food section. They have variety of pastries, bread and drinks. I have purchased couple pastries items before and are not pictured. I was always curious about the Sake Bread from time to time as it is sell out item. The bread was perfect for any type of sandwich for lunch or dinner. It was soft and thick too. I just loved it. I made Japanese Sando out of it. Service was quick. Friendly staff. Ambiance is small and clean.

Amex is not accepted! Boloniya bread 5/5 Like a croissant in bread form. Very buttery and rich when toasted! $9 for half a loaf tho Flan 4/5 I recall this one being flavorful and not too light. Seemed richer than Vietnamese flan, but not as heavy as supermarket Mexican flan. Coffee jelly milk 5/5 Reminds me of childhood! Clam chowder 4/5 New item! For $8, it comes with sourdough and the soup is seafoody enough. Not as good as bearflag, but it will scratch the itch and doesn't taste like water. Red bean danish 4/5 The outside isn't too flakey from being in the fridge, but the filling is FILLED with chantilly?? Cream and lots of red bean! Cream is not your basic whipped cream as it tastes like a richer, but light vanilla custard. Red bean not too sweet. Chocolate coronet 4/5 Anything flakey here I just eat the filling lol chocolate is rich flavor without being cloying. Apple cake 2.5/5 Tried this one awhile back and it was ok. Wouldn't get again, the chiffon needed more flavor for me. Chocolate cake 3/5 Adequate chocolate flavor in the cake, but not mindblowing. Checkout at their bread counter, not at the mitsuwa checkouts.

Quality has gone downhill. I found a hair in one of the curry pan. Both the strawberry milk and coffee jelly drink lacked flavor, basically I could only taste milk.

This bakery is hidden inside the Mitsuwa supermarket and has a very good selection of Japanese bake goods. My go to is usually the milk pudding, but the chocolate donut is also very good the chocolate tastes like real chocolate and not the chocolate that glazes regular American style donuts. The curry bun is delicious if you are looking for a savory treat. To think about it, I don't think I've ordered anything that I didn't like. The coffee jelly milk is also very satisfying and refreshing, but is on the sweet side. Parking is hard during peak hours. Seating is available in the main Mitsuwa food court area. Service is always good. Please visit and create your own experience.

so many variations of breads and desserts

The staffs are very super friendly- I live their egg bread that is out almost every time. They are very good and i have never find bread with whole egg inside. This place inside the Mitsuwa market. It's better to come before 3-ish because if you cone in later times most of the bread and dessert are gone.

Got the coffee jelly caramel and it's 10/10 Creamy & refreshing love it. Also got a strawberry croissant delicious Lady at the front register was super friendly and helpful.

Sake Bread

A small Japanese bakery located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace, so it is a great place to stop by when picking up some grocery. I really want to try their sake bread since it's not common to find it within the state. BUT I fallen in love with their sourdough bread! The sourdough is wheat flour and it is nice and chewy. I love how it is thickly sliced, so the bread is not too hard when toasted. I would definitely go back for more of their sourdough. The sake bread was soft, you can taste a bit of fermented rice when you chew for a while. Also, the staffs are nice and friendly.

This is my favorite bakery! I love coming here for pastries (especially the savory ones like the curry donuts) and their breads (the sourdough is so good)! I also like some of their sweet pastries -- namely the cream cornets (they are amazing) -- although I haven't tried many of the other ones just yet. My experiences there have always been good. Amy and Amanda helped us on our visit on 8/1/24 and they were friendly and helpful despite it being so busy (there were two lines). They and their other coworker did an amazing job helping everyone out a little after noon. Admittedly, I was a little sad that I wasn't able to get my points for my purchase that day. I had asked about it and they said the points had already been added, but I'd checked and they hadn't. I understand that they were busy and needed to move customers along, but it is their loyalty rewards program. I think they have really great quality pastries, but I have noticed the price go up significantly (not just due to inflation). Their curry donuts are great, but I feel like they haven't changed other than the price. Years ago, they used to be $3.95 for a curry donut but the next time I came in, they were priced at $6.95 but they had only just added "wagyu" in front of the name. Nothing had changed from what I could tell and I think that's my only big complaint -- it just felt like a way to double the price. All in all, I think I just had some bad luck that day but honestly this bakery is a really great place to go for some tasty treats. I want to go back and try their mentai bread! That sounds so unique and uncommon.

Cookie croissant and grass jelly milk.

Small bakery inside of Mitsuwa market. Has croissants, cookies, cakes, breads and other pastries. I really enjoyed the butter croissant and grass jelly milk drink. The cookie croissant is good too but it's only available during some weekends. Workers are nice and quick.

Spicy Wagyu Curry Donut, Tsulu An Pan, Cream Pan, Melon Pan, and Bavarian Chocolate
Lauren D.

Fresh and tasty bakery treats! :) Everything here is so delicious and they have a large range of items! It was our first time and we were glad to see that they had the treats we liked. Items are pretty reasonable priced and they also have drinks available. I highly recommend anything with real fruit or chocolate like their Fruit Tarts or Bavarian Chocolate! * Bavarian Chocolate: 10/10 - loved the chocolate chips * Fruit Tart: 9/10 - delicious pastry and real fruits * Chocolate Croissant: 9/10 - fluffy and nice chocolate flavor The people there were super nice and friendly. It's located in the Mitsuwa Supermarket, but the bakery itself is kind of small. It also gets kind of confusing because there aren't any signs that tell you where the lines starts so you're kind of just crowding around. Finding a parking spot is pretty easy, however, because they have an underground structure. One of our new favorite bakeries! :)

Melon pan and crispy cream
Anna C.

This is a very small bakery located inside of Mitsuwa market, which was insanely hard to find parking for. The bakery has both savory and sweet options. I got the melon pan and crispy cream. The melon pan was good: no filling and the dough was soft, however I don't think it was anything special. The crispy cream had just the right amount of custard filling. I really liked the outside of the crispy cream too. This pastry reminded me of imagawayaki with custard filling. Overall, I enjoyed it, but do think there are better bakeries.

This place is tucked away in the corner of the supermarket. Matcha cornet is the bomb. Must try or you're missing out!

At the Costa Mesa location, parking was a little tricky at first, but after circling we got lucky with a corner spot. The location itself is SO cute! The line was pretty long and you are standing in direct sun, so just keep that in mind, but the service was quick and efficient once you order. Inside, it's small but really charming, with Sunny Angels hidden around and a very open, friendly vibe. My sister (who is basically a professional coffee drinker at this point ) got the matcha and said it was her favorite, which says a lot. I got the iced Spanish latte with oat milk, and it was SO good. Spanish lattes are my go-to, and this one had the perfect hint of cinnamon without being overly sweet. Even as the ice melted, it still tasted great, which is rare. The Torrance location was just as good! Parking was easier, the space is bigger, and the service was still super friendly and fast. My husband got the cold brew "Nook way" and finished it in like 10 minutes. He said it tasted like Golden Grahams cereal. Highly recommend both locations and especially the Spanish latte. Definitely worth the visit!
