I've now been to both The Nook in Costa Mesa and Torrance and I can confidently say... I get the hype. At the Costa Mesa location, parking was a little tricky at first, but after circling we got lucky with a corner spot. The location itself is SO cute! It's right next to colorful barrel fountains, and on a sunny day it honestly felt like the perfect coffee outing. The line was pretty long and you are standing in direct sun, so just keep that in mind, but the service was quick and efficient once you order. Inside, it's small but really charming, with Sunny Angels hidden around and a very open, friendly vibe. My sister (who is basically a professional coffee drinker at this point ) got the matcha and said it was her favorite, which says a lot. I got the iced Spanish latte with oat milk, and it was SO good. Spanish lattes are my go-to, and this one had the perfect hint of cinnamon without being overly sweet. Even as the ice melted, it still tasted great, which is rare. The Torrance location was just as good! Parking was easier, the space is bigger, and the service was still super friendly and fast. My husband got the cold brew "Nook way" and finished it in like 10 minutes. He said it tasted like Golden Grahams cereal. Highly recommend both locations and especially the Spanish latte. My manager and I went to go get an afternoon pick-me-up of coffee after a meeting for our work. Nook was down the street and I always wanted to try because I heard the hype. The parking however, was VERY filled during this time. The line was huge for a 11:00am on a Friday morning. We were bummed that the QR code was not working on the very cute wooden signage outside the coffee shop while we were in line, which was a bummer. The Honey Oat Latte with oat milk was delicious. I am notorious for chugging my iced coffee but this was absolutely delicious. A sweet, subtle honey sweetness taste and the creamy oat milk was divine. My manager's Spanish Latte was so much better & I will be getting that next time! We bought our other coworker the Strawberry Matcha, which we did not try & we were worried after the fact because it did not look like it had strawberries in it, but she confirmed it was very tasty and tasted the strawberry! The outside seating areas in this outdoor area was very cute. Lots of fun art, the directory was creative, the CD tunnel was the coolest part! A good first time experience with location and environment, but the matcha latte lacked "matcha" flavor. It tasted more like milk. I always get 50% sweetness, but even then, it lacked flavor. We waited about 15-20 minutes in line (the line moves), just a little disappointed in how the drinks tasted. Nook is located in essentially a strip mall, with limited parking. Arrive early! I saw Nook coffe on Yelp and gave it a try due to a high review. 4.5 star review? Really? I've been to many coffee shops and tried different matchas, and something didn't fit right here. At Nook, I ordered Island Matcha and Strawberry matcha. Island matcha predominantly had oat milk flavor. Matcha tasted fake. Strawberry matcha was puree strawberry which is just bad syrup rather than real chopped Strawberries. Matcha also tasted fake. Nook is located in the Lab Anti-Mall, and while I was there I just watched the line stretch all the way into the parking lot, so expectations were high. Got two drinks but they were a bit of a mixed experience. Both had quite a bit of ice, which diluted them more than I would've liked in a short period of time. The Island Matcha stood out in a good way, offering a nice level of complexity and balanced flavor. The hojicha latte with whole milk, however fell short. It tasted watered down, lacked the deep roasted aroma you'd expect from hojicha, and ultimately came across as somewhat flavorless. Stopped by The Nook Coffee in Costa Mesa and this spot definitely lives up to the hype. It's located in a trendy, super cool area, and even with a line coming out of the shop, things moved fast. We ordered a chai latte and a Spanish latte, and both drinks were ready within about 5 minutes, which was impressive. The Spanish latte was the highlight for me, bold, smooth, and perfectly balanced, not too strong and not too weak. Just right. I also liked how accommodating they are with their menu, offering plenty of options whether you're into coffee, matcha, or tea. The whole experience felt easy and enjoyable. Plus, it's right next to Earlybird Breakfast Burritos, which has one of the best breakfast burritos around, so pairing the two made it a perfect combo. Tucked away in The Lab is where you'll find this great little coffee shop. And by little, I mean it's pretty small with just a couple of tables inside. It can get a little claustrophobic when it's busy but it's a cute shop and the vibes are good. They serve a little of everything including coffee drinks, organic tea, matcha and lemonade. They also have pastries if you're hungry. I just needed a refreshing drink so I ordered a Strawberry Lemonade ($5.50). I could see them making it and it came with an aesthetic garnish. Parking is shared, so it can get pretty difficult for an open spot, depending on time and day. Got the Strawberry Matcha Latte with regular milk. It's a basic drink that is decently done. There's no visible strawberry puree or syrup because they mix it when they make it. Matcha was smooth, tasted both matcha and strawberry that's well-balanced, but it is also subtle and not too sweet. I was happy with it! Overall, nice spot with decent variety of drinks for an average price. Service is pleasant and friendly. The negatives: Parking is chaotic at the Lab, so this isn't a spot I'd recommend for a weekend grab-and-go. It's also a pretty tight space, so there's no working onsite. Upon arriving there was already a line out the door, and more people were coming to get in line. Guys there was barely 12pm on a Saturday and we needed our matcha fixed. It's a little shop located across from Buffalo Exchange a thrift store, I just ordered the iced matcha lattle, whole milk and regualr sweet and my bestie on the Island Matcha Drink with one pump of each coconut and macadamia syrup if you don't want to get the over power of the flavors. Look how green the matcha is, ceremonial grade matcha and I get it there has been this wave of matcha but my matcha obsession has been before the hype. Heck 2010 is when I got my first taste of matcha from my older brother when he got me a tin of ceremonial grade matcha.
