I've now been to both The Nook in Costa Mesa and Torrance and I can confidently say... I get the hype. At the Costa Mesa location, parking was a little tricky at first, but after circling we got lucky with a corner spot. The location itself is SO cute! It's right next to colorful barrel fountains, and on a sunny day it honestly felt like the perfect coffee outing. The line was pretty long and you are standing in direct sun, so just keep that in mind, but the service was quick and efficient once you order. Inside, it's small but really charming, with Sunny Angels hidden around and a very open, friendly vibe. My sister (who is basically a professional coffee drinker at this point ) got the matcha and said it was her favorite, which says a lot. I got the iced Spanish latte with oat milk, and it was SO good. Spanish lattes are my go-to, and this one had the perfect hint of cinnamon without being overly sweet. Even as the ice melted, it still tasted great, which is rare. The Torrance location was just as good! Parking was easier, the space is bigger, and the service was still super friendly and fast. My husband got the cold brew "Nook way" and finished it in like 10 minutes. He said it tasted like Golden Grahams cereal. Highly recommend both locations and especially the Spanish latte. My manager and I went to go get an afternoon pick-me-up of coffee after a meeting for our work. Nook was down the street and I always wanted to try because I heard the hype. The parking however, was VERY filled during this time. The line was huge for a 11:00am on a Friday morning. We were bummed that the QR code was not working on the very cute wooden signage outside the coffee shop while we were in line, which was a bummer. The Honey Oat Latte with oat milk was delicious. I am notorious for chugging my iced coffee but this was absolutely delicious. A sweet, subtle honey sweetness taste and the creamy oat milk was divine. My manager's Spanish Latte was so much better & I will be getting that next time! We bought our other coworker the Strawberry Matcha, which we did not try & we were worried after the fact because it did not look like it had strawberries in it, but she confirmed it was very tasty and tasted the strawberry! The outside seating areas in this outdoor area was very cute. Lots of fun art, the directory was creative, the CD tunnel was the coolest part! A good first time experience with location and environment, but the matcha latte lacked "matcha" flavor. It tasted more like milk. I always get 50% sweetness, but even then, it lacked flavor. We waited about 15-20 minutes in line (the line moves), just a little disappointed in how the drinks tasted. Nook is located in essentially a strip mall, with limited parking. Arrive early! I saw Nook coffe on Yelp and gave it a try due to a high review. 4.5 star review? Really? I've been to many coffee shops and tried different matchas, and something didn't fit right here. At Nook, I ordered Island Matcha and Strawberry matcha. Island matcha predominantly had oat milk flavor. Matcha tasted fake. Strawberry matcha was puree strawberry which is just bad syrup rather than real chopped Strawberries. Matcha also tasted fake. Walked into this cool Coffee spot in this place called the LAb Anti-mall and it was a really cool vibe in there. Nook Coffee Bar is a pretty cafe located in an outdoor shopping plaza. Although the line can get long, it moves quickly thanks to the baristas. We enjoyed the creamy, nutty flavors of the Island Matcha and the rich chocolate notes of the Hojicha Latte. I was out with my friend and we decided to stop by Nook Coffee Bar. Nook has a pretty expansive menu that offers lemonade for those who may not be into caffeinated drinks. While you wait for your drink, you can browse at the array of beans and other goods at the shelves. I thought that the staff was very friendly, especially the staff member who took my order; really great energy. I ordered a matcha latte and the color looked amazing. However, the matcha was light in flavor where it tasted more like oat milk. It tasted watered down, lacked the deep roasted aroma you'd expect from hojicha, and ultimately came across as somewhat flavorless. Tucked away in The Lab is where you'll find this great little coffee shop. And by little, I mean it's pretty small with just a couple of tables inside. It can get a little claustrophobic when it's busy but it's a cute shop and the vibes are good. They serve a little of everything including coffee drinks, organic tea, matcha and lemonade. They also have pastries if you're hungry. I just needed a refreshing drink so I ordered a Strawberry Lemonade ($5.50). I could see them making it and it came with an aesthetic garnish. These two are their most popular Matcha. I don't recommend if you like Matcha as they only use syrup to make the flavor. Also, it says that their Matchas are ceremonial and I know they usually take a while since they're made to order and you have to strain the Matcha, but the lady that did our order was quick literally not even a minute after they took our orders we got them already. Stopped by The Nook Coffee in Costa Mesa and this spot definitely lives up to the hype. It's located in a trendy, super cool area, and even with a line coming out of the shop, things moved fast. We ordered a chai latte and a Spanish latte, and both drinks were ready within about 5 minutes, which was impressive. The Spanish latte was the highlight for me, bold, smooth, and perfectly balanced, not too strong and not too weak. Just right. I also liked how accommodating they are with their menu, offering plenty of options whether you're into coffee, matcha, or tea. The whole experience felt easy and enjoyable. Plus, it's right next to Earlybird Breakfast Burritos, which has one of the best breakfast burritos around, so pairing the two made it a perfect combo. The inside seating was small, with mostly benches along the walls (no tables), so best if you are just sitting and chatting with one other person or waiting for your drink. I ordered the Spanish Latte with oat milk and the mushroom danish. Both were absolutely delicious. The Spanish latte had the right amount of caffeine balanced with sweetness. This was also the first time I've experienced a savory danish pastry and I truly loved the experience. It was mix of sweet and salty, and gone way too fast. The negatives: Parking is chaotic at the Lab, so this isn't a spot I'd recommend for a weekend grab-and-go. It's also a pretty tight space, so there's no working onsite. It's a little shop located across from Buffalo Exchange a thrift store, I just ordered the iced matcha lattle, whole milk and regualr sweet and my bestie on the Island Matcha Drink with one pump of each coconut and macadamia syrup if you don't want to get the over power of the flavors. Look how green the matcha is, ceremonial grade matcha and I get it there has been this wave of matcha but my matcha obsession has been before the hype. Heck 2010 is when I got my first taste of matcha from my older brother when he got me a tin of ceremonial grade matcha. A gem tucked away inside of an "anti-mall" (the lab). This spot is seriously good, I've had their lattes and their matcha lattes before and they're all consistently delicious.
