Trendy aesthetic new coffee shop in Irvine. It's a little off the beaten path, but they have ample parking and indoor seating. Customer service was ok, I wish it was a warmer, more personalized experience. We ordered the mango matcha and an iced decaf flat white with oat milk. The mango matcha was very balanced and refreshing, but unfortunately the coffee was pretty milky/ watered down. Maybe their decaf isn't as good as their other roasts because I know they use high quality, internationally sourced beans? The highlight for me was the coffee bean samples out on the front bar. You can see and smell all of the different roasts they have which is a cool interactive experience!
I think I just found one of my newest favorite cafe's in OC! I found this spot while looking for a new one and I had to go see the interior and taste the drinks myself!! I walked in and immediately was greeted with smiles on the workers faces. I needed a minute and the worker told me no problem, she was very sweet and even complimented my jorts Their menu is straight to the point and they have a couple options of pastries to choose from! The interior is dark but also calm and I love it so much! I would say it's my style. There were a couple of chairs and tables where you can chat or study and there was a little sitting area in the back with little couches and books about cars. The noise level was not too loud or quiet and my cousin and I stayed for at least an hour because we loved the shop! Drinks we got were the Cream top Matcha latte w/ oat milk and sweetened with vanilla (the drinks do not come sweetened) and a Cream top latte w/ oat milk and sweetened with vanilla as well! Parking: 10/10 Drinks: 10/10 Sitting area: 9/10 Interior: 10/10 Service: 10/10
Nice sized coffee shop in a commercial area, modern minimalistic design, ample seating and music playing in the background. The staff is nice and fast with their services. I ordered the Madagascar vanilla latte which was rich, smooth, and creamy.
Pretty cafe, with solid matcha lattes. I like the black and chrome interior with the car inside. I wish they brought the porsche back though. I got a matcha latte with vanilla cream top with vanilla sweetener. Easily $10 matcha but it was worth it. The seats are pretty tiny in the front of the cafe. If you want to lounge there are sofas at the back where the car is. Service is quick, friendly and they said bye when we left :) will be back!
cute small coffee place in north Irvine area. There's plenty of parking in the plaza. And they have their own blend, which is kinda nice. I tried to daidai latte which is espresso, envious, orange, and Okinawa brown sugar however, I don't really taste the orange hint so it taste like brown sugar latte for me. Will give it more shots for their Matcha next time. There's plenty of seats for study or work. Their design is pretty minimalist and simplistic.
Insanely clean aesthetic and super friendly staff. Everything is fairly priced especially for Costa Mesa and Irvine. The quality is on another level and clearly stands out from most places around here. The Mango Matcha (seasonal) was absolutely insane. If you're reading this review you need to try it. The Matcha with Cream Top was also incredible. The first sip was so thick and creamy that I barely got any matcha which is honestly a good sign. They stick to a more traditional approach and don't add sweetener unless you ask for it. Lastly, the pourovers. Some people might question the price, but take a minute to smell the different beans at the counter. You'll quickly realize that not every bean smells like coffee. The tasting notes actually come through and you can tell a lot of care goes into every pour over they make. Most drinks, aside from the pour-overs, are around $4.50 to $7, which is a far greater value for what you're getting in sheer quality. There are way too many cafes these days that focus on aesthetics and end up sacrificing quality. This place feels like it's run by people who genuinely love coffee and it shows in every order. Last note: they have their system down to a tee. The wait in line may be long but once you order it's super quick to receive your order.

The coffee definitely lived up to the expectation--rich, flavorful, and one of the better cups I've had in a while. There were four employees working behind the counter, but surprisingly it still took a while for our drinks to come out. The service was polite, just not very efficient during our visit. The outdoor seating was the highlight for me. There were plenty of comfortable spots to sit, relax, and enjoy the coffee, making it a great place to spend some time. Inside had a cool, laid-back atmosphere as well, though the steel chairs were quite hard and not the most comfortable if you're planning to stay for long. Overall, I'd happily come back for the excellent coffee, inviting aroma, and relaxing patio. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait during busier times.
The newest hip coffee shop in Irvine!! I heard mixed reviews before coming, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The interior is super cute, chrome silver aesthetic with korean coffee shop vibes! Located in the business area by john wayne airport so it's a bit tucked away but there's plenty of parking & ample indoor seating. Not super work friendly as they mainly have high chairs but I saw a few people with laptops out. We came on a Sunday around 2 pm and there was no line with a few tables open. We ordered a regular matcha latte and cream top matcha with vanilla sweetener (FYI - their drinks come unsweetened by default). Honestly, their matcha was just ok...not sure if it's just the umami taste but it was pretty earthy and light. Overall, just tasted like something we could make at home. I ended up asking for extra syrup on the side to help with the bitterness but after sipping for awhile, it became a little too sweet for me instead. They supposedly source from Archives of Us although I personally can't compare as I haven't been yet. Our drinks came out to be $9-10 each after sweetener & alternative milk, which made it feel underwhelming for the price. I heard their hojicha & coffee is better so I'd still come back to try. Hopefully will have a better experience next time!

It's located in Irvine's airport business plaza; specifically near the cul-de-sac where the ghost kitchens are and I've never had any issues parking in the area. What caught my eye was its brutalist minimal interior design and aesthetic. There is free WiFi so def a place you could study or get some work done if you're able to grab a big enough table. I did not see any outlets so come with a fully charged laptop. The owner was there was kind, welcoming and knowledgeable. He explained the menu very well and seemed very passionate about his craft. They take great pride in their single origin beans. The pour overs are def on the pricey side ($12-27) but it was one of the best cups of coffee I've tried. The Colombia risaralda smelled so sweet and fruity; perfectly matching the description of the menu. So worth the splurge to try! Dine in cups are served in a pretty glass and tray and also comes with a card to describe the beans and notes. I also got a Madagascar vanilla latte which was quite good to average as well. Not mind blowing but a solid classic drink. Def will be back to try their other specialty drinks.
This is an aesthetically trendy coffee cafe located in an industrial area. The inside decor has a minimalist but modern feel to it. Definitely a lot of thought was put into creating their interior design. Plenty of parking in the area. However, it may not be the most quiet place - airplanes fly over it ever so often. The staff was very patient and provided good recommendations. Ordered the following: - Hojicha Latte (hot) + vanilla syrup - Cream Top Matcha Latte - Spanish Latte (hot) - Ham and Cheese Croissant The hojicha late with the vanilla syrup was a perfect balance of sweetness and roastiness. I would recommend it! The matcha balanced well with the cream top. The spanish latte had a good balance and not over powering cinnamon flavor. Overall, I really liked this place and would like to come back to try their other drinks and pour overs!
Commons Cafe is the new hot cafe spot in Irvine. I visited it recently with my friend, as we wanted to try out a new matcha spot. I have seen a lot of buzz around the cafe, as well as the fact that they have actually cup for dine in is a must visit for me. I got the cream top matcha latte, which is really good. Their matcha is def high quality with a heavy earthy taste. If you don't like strong earthy matcha, this might not be for you, but I personally love it. They use the same matcha as my fav cafe in LA, Archive of Us. Def will try their coffee option next time. Their aesthetic gives sleek black modern vibe with wooden element and metallic furnitures. They actually a lot seatings for studying and chatting. Service is super friendly! The barista was so attentive in answering questions and recommending their drinks.
Love how this place opens early. Perfect place to get my matcha latte before going to work. Literally 5 minutes away from my office! I love how clean and minimalistic the place is. I got the matcha latte which is about $8.50 total. They give zero sugar so you have to add on syrup or agave if you want it sweetened. Otherwise, place is quiet and perfect place for hangout or coffee date. Matcha also is very good and almost on par with LA matcha. They use the same matcha as from Archive of Us! So delicious and rich. If they did a matcha einspanner then that would be game changer
LOVE the interior and theme of the cafe! I noticed that they have KEF speakers instead of the usual Sonos or Marshall. Nothing crazy for anyone to point out, just an appreciation I had for their taste! I ordered their Hojicha latte and Matcha latte which were a good standard. At peak freshness, the matcha is super umami and has a semi-rich density to it. It's not too thin and I do think they highlight the matcha well. The barista mentioned that their matchas come unsweetened which was a delight, however I do reccomend it with some agave. They don't put too much either so it was perfect for someone that doesn't prefer too sweet. I wouldn't say anything crazy, it does seem like they specialize in single origin coffee than matchas. I haven't tried their coffee yet but I'll be coming back again to have a taste so my friends can give better feedback too (they're more experienced with coffee than I am). I look forward to coming back to study.
have had commons a few times now and will definitely come back when in the area again. parking: plenty of parking space (if you don't see any in the front-- there is plenty of parking on the side of the building. location: located in an industrial area near john wayne airport. ambiance: modern, hip, fun. a place to hang and have a coffee with friends. would not recommend for studying due to lack of outlets and table space. there's also some lounge chairs outside that i think people miss because it's more right of the front entrance. it can get busy, but seems like drinks are thoughtfully made and take more time if you watch them make it. all the drinks comes unsweetened so you'll have to add sweetener if that's what you prefer. i have tried their vanilla latte, matcha, and hojicha latte. my fav is the hojicha latte (non cream top) with a bit of sweetener. nutty, yet smooth and refreshing. customer service: i'm always greeted with a smile whenever i visit. there's this dude at the register that always smiles super big from what i could tell, the owners are coffee/tea enthusiasts and are happy to share where the beans/tea are sourced from, how to drink them correctly to experience the taste and aroma notes to its fullest. I see them make drinks, show demonstrations for their pour overs, as well as sit down with patrons to simply share knowledge about their coffee/teas. i thought that was very personable as it shows how much they care about their craft. read more
Went here the past weekend since it was close to my condo. This place gets busy. The interior of the business was very cool, very modern and they had a car in the back which was cool. This is a spot definitely if you want the vibes and also good drinks. I ordered the iced matcha, the matcha was very smooth. Not the best matcha I've had in OC area but it was quite good. It was a sip for sure and helped me through the day. I give this matcha spot a solid 4/5 star review. The vibes alone will get me back to the front door step. Matcha was very smooth. read more

This coffee shop is the one to remember. The inside is sooo cool. There are tons of stone tables/chairs to do your laptop work at. There should be more coffee shop like this. My lavender latte was delicious and beautifully presented. It came out HOT too! One HUGE awesomeness: you could step out and see planes landing at John Wayne Airport! Yes, it is that close to the airport! I will be back for sure!! read more

Super impressed by this new cafe! It's in the secluded corporate part of Irvine, but it's well worth the drive. Definitely the best interior decor and vibe out of all the coffee shops in the city, and believe me I've been to all of them. You can just tell a lot of care and attention to detail was put into this space. Came to do some work and there were a couple seats with outlets available, could definitely see it being hard to find a seat in the future when more people know about this place. Barista was super helpful and friendly! Their menu is all the classic drinks you can imagine, and I look forward to seeing if they start doing seasonal specials or something like that once they've been open for a bit longer! The people are waiting...They use Archives of Us matcha and hojicha here which is amazing because I love going there for matcha whenever I'm in LA. Tried the hojicha here and it was great, next time I'd want to try it with a little bit of sweetener though as the default is unsweetened. Would definitely recommend making a visit here asap while it's still relatively unknown. Wishing this new business the best! read more

Location is small amidst a street full of studios but definitely attracts a lot of customers. Interesting interior with the chrome silver and black as the main colors. Lots of people in there studying or hanging out so there were no seats available when we went. The flavor profiles of the coffee beans all sounded good but we didn't get coffee (which I kind of regret). We ordered the cream top hojicha latte, which was pretty good, but I've had better and it was suggested that I add vanilla to it because it was not sweet enough for folks. I agreed not knowing it was an extra charge so my drink came out to almost $9. I wouldn't have done that had I known. read more

Wow! I was super impressed by this place! I got a pour over over ice! It was the Colombia Risaralda, the flavor was a Mango Hi Chew, Dole Whip and Lychee! It was extremely good and the presentation is cute!!! I can't wait to go back and try the other pour overs they offer! Customer service was also great! Everyone was super friendly! read more
I came back this time to try Commons' lattes and pasties (last visit was the Glitch pop-up event). The vanilla and Spanish lattes were rich, creamy and delicious. The pastries were amazing as breakfast. I love the ambiance here of car and coffee. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come back for more in the future. read more
The hot Spanish latte was on point, with a highly complex coffee profile and a velvety, smooth sweetness from the condensed milk. It is my favorite milk-based espresso drink. The baristas here are very coffee knowledgeable and super courteous. There is plenty of seating inside. I am an Irvine local and, since I've discovered this place, all other coffee shops within the OC area are pretty much dead to me. This is THE best coffee shop in Orange County for third wave coffee enthusiasts. 1. It's so consistent. The biggest issue with cafes for me is consistency. Whether the espresso shot is over or under extracted, it's hard to find a cafe with consistently tuned coffee. Other third wave coffee shops like Play in OC have similar offerings but the consistency in the execution just isn't there. I've been here at least 10 times, and it's never been a miss. 2. They serve single origin espresso. It's so rare to find this because most coffee shops don't bother to tune single origin beans (makes sense as there usually is little demand for it w the price increase). If anything, they will only serve it as a pourover, which is just good but isn't as fun imo. The offerings I've had from Commons have uniquely distinct, isolable flavors -- ambrosia, floral perfection. 3. I love the fact their owner/founder is always there working behind the counter as a barista. That's just how you know this shop is dedicated to their craft. 4. I love their matcha and cold foam. Great place to hang out with a friend and catch up! I went with a friend to study on a Monday at 9 am and the place had a few tables open. I got the Hojicha Cream Top and my friend got the Daidai latte. When ordering the Hojicha Cream Top, note that it isn't sweetened so make sure to add sweetener if you are someone that prefers more flavorful drinks (even if it adds a bit of money). From my understanding, this place uses styles that are Japan-based and the execution was good! I wouldn't recommend this place for studying, however, as there are limited tables that are large enough to fit two, much less, one person. The tables most available are tiny circular tables with only one seat that is comfortable for table use, and a wall seat that is quite high in comparison, making it a bit uncomfortable. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place for people coming to hangout and spend time with friends, but it if your looking for a study spot, I would suggest you grab a drink and find a workspace elsewhere. read more
Really strong matcha taste which I like but for those that aren't used to matcha might find it too strong. I got the regular latte which has no sweetener, just whole milk and matcha. The biggest turn off to me about this place is the upcharge to add sweetener and another upcharge to switch to almond or oat milks. And offer no sugar, stevia etc on the side either so you are forced to pay the extra 50 cents for sweetener. Service was fast I got my drink within 10 mins of ordering. I was excited to see this cafe open up in Irvine but left disappointed but not surprised to see yet another spot relying more on the vibe than on quality. I ordered their regular matcha latte and opted for their plain salt bread. For a $7 matcha the taste was light and honestly disheartening to see cafes continuously charging high prices on subpar matchas like this. Despite the tiny size of their salt bread I wanted to give it a try which I regretted as it was pretty dry. While I did like the nice aesthetic they had going on, there are many other cafes offering better quality drinks/pastries for the same price. read more
Had a chance to stop by a second time at Common Cafe, a bit after the last time I was there, and it's crazy how even a short span of time can show how much things can change. And in a good way, with my experience. I came here a second time this morning, and evidently, the weekday crowd is definitely less intense than in the morning. The vibes were chill as always, and people there were either working, chilling, or grabbing their quick pick-me-up before leaving. I didn't have to wait long before I got my order, and this time I was able to have a bit of a conversation with one of the workers there. They still gave off that friendly attitude I experienced the first time, and we even talked a bit more about their specialty pour-overs. As mentioned, I'm not a huge coffee expert, but I am a curious person and did ask a bit about their specialty pourovers and prices. After a bit of conversation, I was convinced to try their iced pour-over with the Glitch Colombia Huila Quebraditas beans. The wait wasn't as long, and I was able to get a seat to try the drink, which came out pretty shortly. The staff member I spoke to mentioned that it has a pretty fruity taste, just like the notes written on the card; however, it wasn't too acidic and had a clean taste, just like when I would drink tea. The card mentioned some strawberry and whiskey-like notes, which did come through with each sip and honestly changed my perception of how coffee can and has the potential to taste. Although the pourovers would definitely be a treat for me, the amicable service and time to go over each coffee really shows dedication that this place has to offer and I am excited to come back and see what else they have in store. read more

I got the matcha latte with oatmilk and less sweetness. It was pretty good! It had a dark matcha flavor and tasted smooth. The interior of the cafe is super minimalistic and monochromatic. Would come back, the only downside is that it's a tad bit on the pricier side. My drink came out to be $8.08. Would come back to try something different. read more

A very aesthetic, pleasing café with decent customer service, although on the pricier end of other cafés, the café offers a nice and sleek interior with a nice display and a very nice and clean restroom. I had their matcha with cream top and it was good. The cashier had said that the drink would be sweet, but I found it more on the bitter end and the cold foam wasn't really sweet at all. Overall, I wouldn't come back for the drink, but the vibes were cool! read more

Great latte, very balanced flavor profile. Will have to return and try their matcha and pour over. Unique new coffee shop with a more metallic/clean feel. Lots of seating along the hallway, seems like a nice and lowkey place to get work done if needed. read more

the squid ink salt bread was soft and chewy and had great butter flavor :) black sesame pound cake was yummy and not too sweet! the white chocolate topping added some light sweetness. my matcha latte drink was great! not too sweet either and had decent matcha flavor (but not the strongest ive had) i got it sweetened with agave instead of vanilla bc i prefer a matcha forward drink. though i do wish it wasnt a $0.50 surcharge for agave vs vanilla :( the hojicha was pretty good and had some nutty chocolatey flavors. the coffee beans at the register smell super good and are definitely reflective of the descriptions listed! id love to try the pour-overs one day service was so great! the worker was so friendly and sweet. she gave me helpful recommendations when i was deciding between two drink options :) this place is doing well! there was a decent amount of people when i visited on a late sunday morning. i heard they just opened recently. hope business flourishes!! read more
Great vibes and great coffee! It's rare to find a place like this in OC where the vibes are really good and the coffee is quality. Not only do they allow us to smell the beans but all the employees also seem knowledgeable about the coffee. We sat at a table that allowed us to watch the barista make the pourover and we could tell he was experienced and committed to making it good. Excited for this spot! read more
