    Smashed Avocado Toast

Back with an update because I finally got my hands on the breakfast burrito. My cousin and I still make the drive from South OC for what is easily our favorite matcha in OC but this visit was all about the burrito. They were sold out the last time we came, so my expectations were honestly pretty high. I fear the hype is justified. It was a little oily but the flavor was insane. The protein to tortilla ratio was perfect every bite felt balanced and the sauce absolutely carried it over the finish line. If you've had the breakfast burrito from Sobuneh in LA, this is probably the closest thing I've found in OC. Ambiance is so cute and minimal. Service is great. Also parking is so easy. They validate in the structure across the street and there are designated Stereoscope spots tucked away in the back of the lot to the right. Stereoscope REALLY did their big one.

My hubby and I love coming to Stereoscope for their pour overs. They change out their beans often, so it's always a surprise of which ones they offer. Pour overs vary in prices based on which ones you get. The more expensive ones do not necessarily taste better, it just depends on your flavor profile. People who work here are all very friendly and they are always busy. There's plenty of seating as you can sit in the lobby of the business center as well as inside and outside the coffee shop. Parking is validated for up to two hours if you park in the parking lot across the street.

Stopped by here on our bike ride around Back Bay. Ordered a Pour Over (Peru Cerro Blanco) and a Morning Coffee (Columbia El Divisio - Estate). I was planning on trying a latte, but I am tired of places that are still adding a surcharge for plant-based milks. My Morning Coffee was lukewarm at best. When I shared that with the barista I was told that they could fix it. I think they steamed it instead of getting me a fresh cup. The coffee was good, once heated. The Pour Over was also good. Disappointed that there were no vegan treats to go with our drinks. We were there pretty early so not sure if they were out or just don't carry them. There is seating inside, but we opted for some cushy chairs outside. The outside seating is really nice. No bathroom at the coffee shop, but you can go into the office building and use their facilities. Not sure what options there are on a weekend.

    Matcha Einspanner

Stereoscope has a couple locations but visited the one near Newport on the way to the beach. Nestled in a business complex of sort but was very quiet on a Saturday evening. Super small space, but wanted to grab & go anyways. Ordered their Matcha Einspanner & it was better than expected! It was a bit vanilla forward, but the cream top had a nice consistency that added to the overall drink.

This review is strictly for their interior vibes and the SWEETENED MATCHA. The decor at this coffee shop is so cool! There are 3D glasses on display that guests can use to view the 3D artwork on the ceiling! So unique and fun to view while waiting in line to order. My go-to order is the iced Sweetened Matcha (with oatmilk)! I'm usually a coffee person, but I think this particular order has converted me into a matcha girly. I love it because it's perfectly smooth and not overly bitter. P.S. the baristas aren't too bad to look at either while you're waiting for your drink... lol

matcha cream top: soooo tasty. sweet & creamy. I'm going back for more!!! avocado toast: 10/10. no complaints. I devoured it all. fresh ingredients. service: Very nice customer service! Line can get long so plan ahead. park in the garage across the street the get your parking ticket validated at the cashier. ambiance: Lots of indoor and outdoor seating

Medium Ganache Mocha Latte and Medium Dark Espresso

I went to this cute little coffee shop located on the first floor of a business building, that opens up to the outside. It is around the corner from the Marriott Newport Bay. Hubby was getting an MRI across the way and told me to get some coffee while I waited. PLUS, if you ask for parking validation you get two free hours! If not, you're paying $1.15 every 15 minutes in the parking structure. The employees were friendly. I tried their Ganache Mocha which was creamy and chocolatey. I enjoyed the true flavors without having to add any sweetener. They serve breakfast all day and have pastries and other drinks. We will have to come back and try them another time. It is a great place to enjoy the weather and do work in their patio or the garden area nearby.

Menu: Tons of choices- typical coffees, specialty drinks, sophisticated matches/coffees, food Drink adjustability: 5/5 (will customize drinks!) Seating: Lots of indoor/outdoor, no visible outlets though Crowd: Always a line :/ Parking: Parking structure, 2hr validated Features: Restrooms/water filler (inside corporate bldg) Stereoscope has quickly become one of my absolute favorite Saturday coffee locations. The bar itself is an indoor-outdoor cramped space on the side of a corporate building. Park in the garage across the street and get your ticket validated (2hr). There are tons of little nooks to sit outside (I've read many a book here) and also an indoor seating area in the corporate building lobby, with indoor plants and nice restrooms. Fantastic place to get some work done or chat with friends. I originally tried their strawberry matcha with milk per recommendation from a friend. This was good (I just asked for their "Sweetened matcha" with strawberry), but they shine in their "fancier" matcha selections. I had the Hokatsu ceremonial matcha with a bit of simple syrup and it was lovely; small and expensive, but good quality. Although the prices are steep here, I give Stereoscope 5 stars because of the abundant seating, very kind staff, and fantastic vibes.

A nice, small cafe with so many different matcha options! I got the Hokatsu Ceremonial Matcha sweetened with vanilla ($7.50; one size) and the Sweetened Matcha ($7.50; Large). You can really taste the difference between the matchas, and the Hokatsu was my favorite There was bit of a line, but it wasn't too bad. We went on a Monday during a holiday and waited around 10 minutes for our drinks after ordering. This cafe is located in a corporate building area, and there is a visitor's parking lot area. Stereoscope will validate your parking for up to 2 hours.

12/22/2025 MISO PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE Loved this! This was not like the usual pumpkin spice lattes sold at every coffee shop. The spices were not overwhelming, but had the rich flavors of fall in each sip. The miso had that undertone that brings an extra umami flavor without it being too prominent in flavor. The miso complemented the spices of fall. Enjoyed it! This was a seasonal flavor and I believe it may not be available by the time I post this review. CAPPUCCINO A bit of smoky flavor from the espresso. The coffee was from Peru with fruity notes of raspberry, white peach, and citrus honey. I wasn't a huge fan of their espresso pick, which tasted a bit sour. But they've done a good job at bringing an overall good mouthfeel with their milk foam. However, I would not order this again. GENMAICHA Got it hot and to go. Drank it while driving. Very deliciously nutty flavor of the toasted rice. You can taste the smooth matcha flavor coming through. It was surprisingly good and very soothing as you drink! Recommend! FINANCIER All financiers were moist and soft on the inside, yet dense on the outside. It had a lightly pleasant chew to it too. All three of them were sold in wrapped paper, which was a nice touch. Chocolate - Good deep chocolate flavor with fudgy filling on top. Delicious with coffee! Matcha - This one was good too! A very good slightly grassy and floral matcha flavor. Coffee - The barista recommended this one! It did taste like coffee with coffee grinds on top as decoration. You can taste the brown butter flavor as you eat the financier. It was a pleasant taste and mouthfeel! This one was good too! Recommend all three! AMBIANCE / SEATS It felt like a local café, yet had that minimalistic vibe that was inviting. Indoor and outdoor seats available. Indoor seats were minimal. Outdoor seats with chairs and cushioned seats. LOCATION Stereoscope was located at a commercial office buildings and business center. Please park in the parking structure and you will get 2 hr. validation when you bring your ticket to the cafe register. Parking structure is right across from Stereoscope. I enjoyed the space and it was cozy and parking was easy too. Would definitely return when in the area!

    $14 yogurt parfait
    Joey H.

Been coming here for years since post-Covid and the drinks here are always above average in taste and quality if it's not short of exceptional. Today I tried the yogurt parfait and though it was good the portions were atrocious. $14 for a less than half filled recycled paper Togo bowl is quite the highway robbery.

Stereoscope is a cute small cafe located in a commercial business area near corporate offices. They have some seating outside but the building next to the coffee shop has a few places to sit. Parking is limited but they do have a parking structure across the street which you can get 2hrs validated. I have been to their Buena Park location but never ventured to the Newport one. They had so many different choices for matcha which I would like to try in the future. I got the sweetened matcha latte. I don't know if it was an off day but it was definitely more sweet than I remembered.

    Leeza D.

I visited the Long Beach location and wanted to try this OC location. It's in an office complex area. The menu is similar to Long Beach and they have a small food menus. Limited indoor and outdoor seating available. Parking is via a structure. Please come and create your own adventure.

When you enter, the location is huge! Tons of tables and seating. Nice! People are working, hanging out, and enjoying their food and drinks. I ordered a churro latte half sweet and a deluxe avocado toast. The latte was delicious. Sweetness level was just right for me. I don't like super sweet drinks. The avocado toast was also great. There was so much flavor from the egg and bacon and seasonings. It was a little hard to eat out of the to go container, but I made it work. It could easily be shared depending how hungry you are. Inside is a café inspired by natural accents with an industrial flair giving a rustic character with modern style. The vibe inside is chill with plenty of seating for groups or singles. They also have an outdoor area with covered seating surrounded by plants. The menu delivers just as much appeal as the setting. They have an expansive list of coffee, tea, and lattes with several modifiers to choose from. To accompany your drink the menu provides options of sandwiches, bagels, and a variety of pastries. I had the smoked salmon bagel, featuring delicate slices of salmon layered over cream cheese spread, topped with capers and fresh chives. This is my go to for coffee houses that offer it. The bagel exceeded my expectations and I believe the chive's subtle flavor complemented the smoked salmon really well. For drinks we tried the chai and hot chocolate. The iced chai latte was smooth and not too sweet with a dusting of cinnamon on top, but I would rate it average in taste. The hot chocolate was deliciously velvety and detailed beautifully. I would rate it a five out of five! The difference at this coffee shop is that you can choose from a range of seating arrangements and have an opportunity to support the business by picking up clothing, a bag of coffee or other merchandise. The con for this coffee shop is that the beverages are somewhat undersized relative to the price point. In addition, the customer service experience fell short. We were greeted upon entering, but it was unclear where customers should retrieve their order or whether orders numbers were called out. With that said, those looking for a quiet morning coffee or a cozy place to catch up with friends, this spot can accommodate.

Genuinely surprised I haven't left a review sooner. It's a small, quaint shop with a clean and mellow interior, relaxing jazz playing in the background, and aroma of freshly brewed coffee that always transports me back to Japan. Daisuke and his team greet everyone with such genuine warmth that you immediately feel welcomed. Their hospitality is unmatched, but what keeps me coming back is the consistency. Every drink is made with care, and they're always happy to take the time to explain the differences between their beans, recommend something based on your preferences, and answer any questions without ever making you feel rushed. You can tell they truly care about both their craft and their customers. I usually order the café au lait, and it's the only coffee shop where I'm confident in asking them to make it however they like. Every now and then I'll also pick up a bag of their beans to brew at home, and I highly recommend doing the same. They carefully help you choose from their wide variety, then grind the beans for you or sell them whole if you have your own grinder. Grinding fresh beans takes about 15-20 minutes, so if you're driving from farther away, I'd recommend calling ahead or placing an order through their website for pickup. The quality of the coffee speaks for itself, but what really sets this place apart is the experience. It's rare to find a coffee shop where both the product and the people are this consistently exceptional. Where most coffee shops tend to rush you out I think the difference here is that you genuinely feel welcomed. Wishing Daisuke and the entire team nothing but continued success. They deserve every bit of it. If you're looking for incredible coffee, authentic Japanese hospitality, and a place that genuinely cares about what they serve, do yourself a favor and stop by. You won't regret it.

We'll definitely be back soon highly recommend this place if you're looking for quality coffee and a great local atmosphere! 4.5 stars in my personal opinion

OC needed more good brunch spots, so I'm glad we have Salty Horse! There always seems to be a line…read morehere, so try to get there early. Went at 9am on a Saturday and there was already a line out the door. "Steak and Eggs': loved the flavor of the steak, it was cooked perfectly! Eggs are cooked your way and it comes with avocado and a sourdough slice as well. 'Hawaiian Cowboy: coffee flavor wasn't that strong, it almost tasted watered down, and there was this floraly taste that I didn't expect Breakfast options are delicious, love the portion sizes (definitely will have leftovers), and they have such a cute and cozy outdoor seating area! I will say tho I'm kind of disappointed with the drinks here, and I've tried both their coffee and matcha....but I would recommend this place for their food!

Tried salty horse for the first time and I will be back…read more I got there around 9:30 AM which was perfect because there was no line. I ordered the steak and eggs, berries and cream Matcha, and the cookie dough banana bread. My total was about $45. Steak & eggs: 8/10; these portions were big and perfect. The steak had flavor. Tater tots were crispy. Sourdough bread was soft but crunchy on the outside. Eggs were over easy. Berries & cream matcha: 8.5/10; I actually really enjoyed this Matcha. Not sure why it came in a smaller cup than what my cousin ordered, but maybe because I said light ice? I think that is something that should have been mentioned to me that I would get a smaller cup. Otherwise, I liked this matcha a lot. Cookie dough Banana bread: 9/10; this was so good, so soft, so fresh. The only thing I wish is that I would be able to taste more of the cookie dough. I was a bit confused where the cookie dough was at in this banana bread. There were times where I did taste it, but I wasn't too sure. However, it did have lots of flavor and I would probably get the banana bread alone. Overall, I would return. There was a line formed outside around 10:30 AM, so I definitely recommend getting there early. This was even on a Tuesday morning. So it seems like the line forms no matter the day.
