It's one of the newer coffee shop / cafes in Costa Mesa and is still on the Hot List as the line is 15 min minimum on random Tuesday at 11 am. (Does anyone work anymore!? ) The longest I waited was an hour but that was 3 weeks after opening. And I can tell you, as long as you have the time it will be worth it. The overall aesthetic is coastal cowboy meets rustic modern. There is a ton of seating with a great outdoor patio. Parking in the back is pretty slim, so your best bet is street parking. You can either get lucky or park around the block, depending on the day / time. My absolute favorite coffee is the Hawaiian Cowboy. It flavor profile is a nutty tasting honey that's refreshing yet not overly sweet. You can actually taste the espresso without it being too powerful. This coffee is worth the wait. Their other drinks are also good, but this one takes the cake. They have a pretty expansive food menu as well, so it's much more than "just a coffee shop". And you can't forget about their baked goods. O M G. It's from a local bakery (sift bakery) who makes the best non basic treats around. They don't have large tables so anything larger might be a challenge to find seating (open seating based on availability). The table turnovers seem pretty quick though. Very little indoor seating and limited/shaded outdoor seating. Overall it's a nice place to grab a small bite to eat and a drink for lunch. I wouldn't recommend the grilled chicken sandwich (fried is probably better), because the chicken was really dry and it made the sandwich taste dry overall. The steak frites and Cali burrito, on the other hand, were decent and my friends liked these entrees as well! Their French fries are SUPERB, it's the perfect crisp on the outside and has that crunch when you bite in to it. Parking situation is a bit odd and limited since building is a bit tucked in-- however, the atmosphere and interior of this more lowkey spot really adds to the vibe. Mostly outdoor seating with limited indoor seating, however there is plenty of shade and eating outside is quite nice. We came on Tuesday around 2 pm and it was pretty busy but not packed. We were able to find a table to eat at immediately after ordering and there wasn't a line. Not sure how it is on a weekend though. Chicken Caesar Wrap (3/5): underwhelming and fell a bit flat in terms of flavor for their caesar sauce. Didn't love this one but it was alright to eat. Steak Sandwich (5/5): Wow this was so delicious! Steak was really juicy, tender, perfectly cooked, and flavorful. Everything blended together really well and I thought this was a great portion. Very messy to eat though so beware! Fries were good but nothing crazy. Banana Matcha (5/5): This was so good! They sifted the matcha powder before whisking it and it wasn't gritty at all. Place is hidden so have to walk around the neighborhood and shop to find this place. Food was interesting. Salty yes like the name. Absolutely amaze! I've gone to salty horse a couple of times now, and have tried both their breakfast menu items as well as their lunch/dinner items. I really have no complaints, I've enjoyed everything I've gotten from here and even think they have some of the best burritos I've had in Orange County. I think their drink ideas are cute, creative, and fit well with the western cowboy theme that the restaurant has. Sometimes the matcha can be a little watered down but still pretty good. Service is always friendly and helpful! I like the outdoor open concept for dining and it's great for the sunny OC weather. My friend and I went on a Monday at noon and it was packed. We were able to snag a table after people got up to leave, but they didn't bus their own table, so we had to take their plates to the bussing area. There were no employees to be found to clean the table. It would be nice if they had an employee whose sole job it is to clean tables and clear the bin of dirty plates - it was stacked sky high when we left. I didn't order any drinks, but I really liked my bacon breakfast burrito. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. My friend ordered the steak frites medium rare, and it was cooked very poorly. I tried their purple tide coffee, it was the perfect amount of sweetness, really well balanced. I really liked it. The vibe inside is a little bit hard to hang out. Super small interior, and their menus are not very obvious. You have to grab the menu in the basket while lining up to see what you wanna get. I wish they had kind of a menu where you could easily check and see from to keep the line more efficient. And they're very fast at making drinks, and you could tell that they use good quality milks as well as coffee beans. I do like their coffee beans here. I can see that this is a very great in and out place to get your coffee or your matcha. It was about a 30 min wait in line but after that I got my food and drinks in about 10 minutes. I tried their matcha tea and the Hawaiian cowboy. The matcha was solid, nothing to write home about but the Hawaiian cowboy was a surprise! I expected it to be overly sweet but it was perfect! You can taste the honey and the walnut milk and it has a unique flavor. Personally I like a stronger coffee flavor so while I would order this again I would definitely add an extra espresso shot to it. I ordered the salty red breakfast burrito and it is a must try! From the first bite I was hooked. The pastor had a really great flavor that paired so well with the creamy avocado, crispy tots, and the rest of the components. the two salsas that they provide were both delicious but not needed, the burrito can hold its own! The green salsa had a nice freshness to it and the chipotle crema had the tiniest of kick but was pleasant. The vibe of this place is, as they say, immaculate. There is very limited inside seating but outside is where it's at. The patio is spacious and so gorgeous with the choices of decor fitting in perfectly and creating a relaxing atmosphere and one that I would love to come back to. I like that is located away from Triangle Square area so it was easy for me to get to and find parking on the street. They're open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, making it perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We started with the Avocado Toast as a starter, and it was delicious a must-try! The highlight of my meal was definitely the Cowboy Steak Frites; the ribeye steak cooked to perfection, topped with rich cowboy butter, and those truffle parmesan fries were a perfect pairing. For drinks, we started with Fresh Pressed Blueberry Mint Lemonade($6). It was refreshing and not too sweet. No AC in this place, it was a really warm day and I'm surprised the employees were okay with the heat and humidity without ac. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos and they were pretty delicious if I say so myself and the matcha I think would have been better however, it became watered down since we were not aware that we had to stand inside to hear for our number for drinks. But I think what tied it all together and made it so good was the tortilla. I'm not sure if it's freshly made, but I love when the tortilla is thin but stretchy and looks oily (but isn't). L O C A T I O N It's located right near the end of the 55 entrance. If you know the area, parking is limited and space is tight. There is designated parking right before you turn onto the street where the main entrance is, but it's small (holds about 10-15 cars) so a lot of people end up finding parking on the street. Breakfast burrito perfection! I was hesitant to brave the line at Salty Horse, but I'm glad I did. Arrived shortly after 10am and the line didn't look too bad. Ordered at the counter and found a table outside. The restaurants says it's coastal cowboy and the decor reflects the funky eclectic mix of the two. Got the breakfast burrito with soyrizo ($17) and the spicy Caesar salad ($12). The burrito had just the right mix of ingredients IMHO, grilled on the outside and came with two salsas. The salad was very interesting, a little spicy, with a nice crunch. I'm glad I split the burrito and the salad and would totally do that again. They have seating indoors and outdoors. It gets totally slammed on the weekend mornings (they were out of knives because they were so busy), so you may want to come on a weekday for breakfast if possible. (By 10:30am on Saturday, the line outside had doubled.) I was worried parking would be an issue, but there's plenty of street parking in the neighborhood. read more

Came here on a saturday and the line was out the door and around the corner. They have an amazing menu of breakfast items and a variety of drinks, and is a great place to hangout. The burrito was crispy and loaded - with great salsa on the side! The has browns were purposely crispy, and the coffee was creamy and delicious. Despite the long line, the food and drinks come out pretty quickly. Cant wait to come by again! read more
