For food we ordered the granola bowl, the chicken sandwich, and the toast that came with a delectable dipping sauce. I ordered an orange juice as well and I really recommend it! This place deserves a gold star! I've been coming here since it opened a couple of years now. The outside deck is located in a charming Spanish revival courtyard off of 17th street in Costa Mesa. It's a beautiful spot for brunch, mid afternoon snack or gathering spot with friends for dinner. The vibe is Newport relaxed quietly trendy. But let's get on with the food. In the morning if they have the monkey bread in stock don't skip on it. Their avocado toast is exceptionally well done. In the afternoon I recommend their dips and cocktails. They are on the lighter side. The star of the show for me right now is their dinner deals. Recently the restaurant has been doing weeknight specials that really are SPECIAL. Kudos to the chef who did Thursday Parma Chicken night (6/11). We started with a cold draft of Peroni Italian beer. Followed by a plate of Parma chicken, salad and frites. The chicken was other worldly. It was huge! Somehow still crispy with speckles of sesame, even with a layer of melted mozzarella, ham and fresh whole leaves of basil. Fries were thick and perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Two sauces accompanied the plate. A tomatoey one and a creamy aioli for dipping. The salad was fresh and lightly seasoned. At $25 for the whole meal including drink is the best deal in Eastside Costa Mesa. The only critique I have is the beer could have been colder. The salad a little bigger (it was delicious). The courtyard heating lamp a little more ample. Thursday night Parm night went so well, I came back to try their Steak and Frites with Wine on Tuesday night. For $35 it comes with a light French red. You could get a white or an-alcoholic wine. I prefer a deeper red but their choice was probably picked to be the most pleasing for most folks. The salad and frites were well executed as Thursday night. They never asked how we wanted the steak done but delivered perfectly cooked steaks. Seared and slightly crisped on the outside and pink to red center. Their compound pat of butter on top was delicious (I cannot tell what is in it but delicious). They also had two sauces accompanying the plate. One was a grainy mustard that went very well with the steak and the other was their creamy aioli. If you want a great deal and great food try them out for their Tues or Thur special. Go now before word gets out and they get too busy to book a table. If you are in Newport Beach area and you need a charging station, this is THE place to visit! The cafe is soooo cute and cozy. The patio with a giant tree in the middle, it makes it so peaceful. We opted for latte, tea and couple of pastries. Everything was delicious. What was THE most memorable was the fact that a nice employee brought a warmer lamp for us w/o us even asking! We arrived around 9:30 AM, and by 10:00 AM our table was still empty--even though we only ordered two simple breakfast dishes. The wait was extremely long, and we eventually had to ask for our food to be packed to-go and leave without being able to enjoy the meal at the restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience didn't improve. When I finally ate in my car, I found eggshells still in my food, which was very disappointing. The servers were kind and polite, but overall the experience was poor due to slow service and lack of attention to food quality. Management should really work on time management and quality control. Secondly, you may have to wait on weekends but it's not *too* bad usually, at least if you're just dining with 1-2 others. Anyway, food. My fiancé and I got the prosciutto and burrata, short rib and provolone melt, and breakfast ciabatta. The prosciutto and burrata is a take on burrata anything so it's good to start off with. The short rib melt was nice and tender. The meat: juicy, the flavor: savory, the verdict: worthy. The breakfast ciabatta was pretty standard honestly. Nothing great but nothing bad either so it's a safe option if nothing else on the menu stands out to you. Gotta get your egg fix somehow right? Most seating is outdoors so expect to enjoy sunny SoCal weather that we all pay so much to live here for. It's in the cutest paseo shopping area, the inside is so beautifully decorated and the outside patio is so chic, lush and just romantic. I really wanted to love Milligram Coffee & Kitchen because the food here is actually amazing. My favorite food to order is the MG breakfast ciabatta which I order every time with my coffee. Unfortunately, the service just doesn't match up. The last time I came in, it took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive, and in that whole time our server never once checked in or updated us on what was going on. And the time prior I was told to sit anywhere I want in the patio and someone will come over to take my order, mind you this was on a Tuesday and very slow, I was sitting for over 20 mins and no server came over to even bring me water so I ended up leaving. I wish the service could be as good as the food because this place has so much potential especially the ambience. My friend and I came here for brunch on Sunday and there was plenty of parking and no wait. We got seated indoor with no wait but sitting outdoors would have been 30 minute wait. The staff is very pleasant and focused on making your time there as nice as possible. The avocado toast is always delicious too! I'm vegan and they have some really great veg options which is enjoyable. Patio is absolutely beautiful and it's always a pleasant time. Sometimes there's way too many kids that run wild, so it's very disruptive for other people who are trying to enjoy conversation and food. Also the chairs are metal and very heavy, and when people drag them, they make the most excruciating irritating noise, it would be really nice if they switched up their chairs. Overall experience 10/10. Made a stop here with friends after a workout class in the area and it was a great way to wind down and relax. It's a shame this place is cute because it's an absolute mess of an establishment. I've tried this place on 3 separate occasions and each time the service has been horrible and the prices have only gotten more outrageous for the portions they provide. They are very understaffed (stood at the counter for 5-10 min just waiting to order despite no line every time) and they have so many dirty tables that they don't clear out often so you have to wait a while to get seated too. They also don't wipe down the tables super thoroughly so I had to clean my own table on a few visits which sucked. The parking in the back lot is also extremely limited and more often than not, you have to valet park just to buy a coffee. They also have two WiFi networks but these are not available to guests. Their espresso is also very sour. Safe to say I won't be coming back, and I highly recommend checking out other cafes in the Costa Mesa area as there are a lot of more reasonably priced options that will treat you much better as a customer. read more

The employee who was helping us at the time said "ok, just don't get it dirty." I was shocked and was trying to convince myself that they were just joking, although it didn't come off as a joke. Because it felt malicious, we ended up not ordering more items. And honestly, we didn't enjoy our food and drinks because they were average. How are you going to have average food and drinks, and act like you're too good for your customers? I don't know what compelled them to say that, but that was rude and weird. Was it a joke? Maybe...? I hope so, because why would someone treat another person like that? It came off rude and snobby. Is it because we were still in our workout clothes without makeup on, compared to everyone else who was in more business casual/smart casual? Regardless, it's still rude. Everyone who worked there was kind and jumped to help. The coffee shop is very cute and trendy with plenty of seating and good ambiance all around. Now for the coffee, I wanted to order a cold brew with a splash of half and half but to my surprise, they didn't carry half and half. I switched my order to an iced latte with almond milk but they only had oat milk and macadamia milk. I ended up going for macadamia milk and added vanilla flavoring. It's all designated outside parking and then free street parking but for locals, we know the street parking is also very limited. There was a lot of available parking for other restaurants but you can't park there due to towing threats via signs. (Suggestion: Milligram being allotted more parking spots since there were a lot available spaces, just not for Milligram) BUT once you get to Milligram, it's pretty and they do a good job in it being a pretty and peaceful ambiance. Turnaround time between ordering and receiving food took a long time. The person I was with even ordered with another server and the server didn't put the order in. It was the 2nd server who put in their order finally, so that was a bit underwhelming, but other than that, service was good. We always had water, always had what we needed, the servers were super friendly. This breakfast sandwich was 10 out of 10. Aioli sauce made the sandwich. This comes with bacon but I had avocado with it instead. They were out of garlic that usually goes on their potatoes but it was fine with me since I am one of those weird people who carries spices in my purse so I had Trader Joe's grinder garlic salt to make up for that.
