Wow! I can see why this place is so popular we finally tried it for the first time, and the breakfast food here does not disappoint. You have a choice of eating outdoors or inside. We were able to get seated quickly for a party of six, come early because after we got done eating there was a line already. Tons of parking and located in the corner area. The inside of the restaurant is very modern, and the service was good. The food was a burst of flavors and quite unique in form of presentation and taste. The Famous Dutch Baby was a major hit for our table, and the Lumberjack Stack was quite interesting as you get pulled pork in every pancake layer with crispy onions chips. Drinks were terrible, matcha tasted like the random powder mix from the grocery store back in 2015 that was chalky and grainy and my spritz was refreshing but tasted watered down (also didn't come out until 10-15min later). Trailblazer wrap was nothing special and one of the side sauces was real funky- almost like some type of animal fat/lard sauce, but I'm not sure. Not sure if they were understaffed, but we saw our waitress maybe every 10-15 min and didn't get waters or greeted until 10 min after we were seated, however there was no wait to be seated, and she was walking/talking with no urgency. Im sure you've heard about their ginormous cinnamon roll. We got the pumpkin spice seasonal one, and surprisingly, for such a huge dough, it was very moist. This breakfast dish was tasty and comforting yet not heavy, and the berries provided refreshing flavors and textures. Hangover Burger: 2/5. Disappointing. I feel like for being called a "hangover" burger, it should've been very satisfying and had more of...well, everything XD The size of the burger and the portion of fries were both small, and the burger patty seemed dry and unseasoned. It could have used a sauce, some seasoning, a different cheese, or a juicy patty. The fries were yummy, but again, I just wished I got more for being part of the hefty $26 price tag. We came here on a weekend, maybe brunch-ish time? Thank god for reservations because goodness is this place hard to get into. Almost just as challenging as finding a parking spot. We were sat outside, which wasn't terrible because it's shaded but really maybe get some fly spinners for the tables outdoors? We ordered tons of food for two people. We asked the server for her advice on the pistachio latte- two which she gave her honest opinion, only if you REALLY like pistachio. Boy was she not kidding, it wasn't bad it just wasn't mixed throughout, because the concentrate was so settled at the bottom the top portion of the drink was mild only to find the bottom had not been mixed and that's where all the pistachio flavor was. The interior is cute modern with a bar. There's a big outdoor patio area with lots of seating. Our server was busy but managed to still be attentive and helpful if needed. We ordered the cinnamon roll latte that came with a small cinnamon roll on the side and the banana twist latte that came with honey rock candy. Both were pretty okay. I stopped by Plums Cafe after work and was pleasantly surprised by my breakfast. The restaurant was bustling and indoor and outdoor seating was filled with hungry patrons. The wait to sit wasn't too long. If you were interested, they do to-go orders too. For breakfast, I got the eggs and meat order with overeasy eggs and sausage. The sausage was my favorite part of the meal. The texture reminded me of Filipino longanisa and the actual taste of the sausage was so good!! Boysenberry, Bacon, and Brie Grilled Cheese - If you like boysenberry, this dish will not disappoint you. It was extremely generous with boysenberry jam on it. There is a good amount of fat but it has been prepared so that it melts in your mouth. The flavor is not overly sweet or over seasoned. It pairs well with the carrots and cilantro. I got mine over a bed of sautéed spinach. I am glad I did, considering the fat content. It came with sourdough. I usually don't care for bread with my meal. Except, they provide the most amazing berry jam and whipped butter. I thought about asking for more of the butter. I was excited to see that other patrons around me ordered the same thing. I have been a fan of this restaurant for years, and I'm surprised it took me this long to write a review. Located in Costa Mesa right off 17th Street, this place used to be a regular haunt of mine when I lived in Southern California. It is tucked away inside a shopping center, but it's very easy to find. The shopping center itself is very eclectic, there is a a cookie store, a salon makeup places, a few other vendors and another coffee shop. But plums is definitely the star of the show. For starters I have to say they have some of the friendliest wait staff of any place I've ever been. Every single time that I've been there, staff has always been warm, friendly, greet you with a smile, and definitely takes care of your table. Speaking of the tables, the entire restaurant is very light open and airy. It definitely has a very warm, comfortable breakfast time atmosphere. Slightly modern but not overly modern to wear it. Distracts you from your food. They have so many great things on the menu. One of my favorites is the Vietnamese pork bowl, you definitely have to try that! The coffee is amazing, strong but not overly strong, and is just perfect. The atmosphere of the place is semi-quiet, but can get a little bit noisy if there's a lot of people inside. On this particular venture I tried something I'd never had before. The pancakes. Now this is odd because pancakes are my normal go-to. But plum's always has so many great things on their menu. I end up trying those. So today I figured you know what if I'm doing a review. I want to order the simplest item on the menu to see if they nailed it. Spoiler alert : they nailed it I ordered the two stack of the blueberry pancakes with lemon curd and it was phenomenal. Of course I had to do a side of bacon, as well as a milk with breakfast. If there was ever a perfect meal listed in any sort of registry, this would be it. It the pancakes were light and fluffy and the lemon curd was absolutely outstanding and the overall dish was just a pleasure to eat. The waiter that took care of me was friendly, attentive, and not overbearing. It was absolutely the perfect pace for a morning breakfast. Bottom line? If you are ever in cost Mesa and do not go to Plum's, you are cheating yourself out of one of the best breakfasts in Orange county. County. Plums is an OC staple brunch spot on 17th street. I would highly recommend making reservations and pretty easy to schedule the day before as it a pretty busy and well known spot in Costa Mesa. When you get seated, best play is to order the Dutch baby before your full order. It's an amazing pastry dish but does take about 20mins or so to cook. We added the berries and pro-tip is to squeeze the lemon, add the berries then sprinkle the powdered sugar. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon. The greens to meat & bread ratios is fantastic. I love a well-balanced sandwich that doesn't feel too decadent. The side salad with a light vinaigrette was a great pairing. They have tons of refreshing cocktails and lots of options on the menu. Another great dish is the Vietnamese bowl but will be adding this sandwich to my brunch rotation. Open from morning till 2pm, Plum's cafe is a local spot in Costa Mesa that specializes in brunch items. Most of their entrees run around $20 (except their steak and eggs and crab omelette). I went with their chocolate banana waffle ($20), that's topped with banana, whipped cream and caramel sauce. The waffle was chocolatey, and I enjoyed the caramel sauce and whipped cream. My wife and I shared their granny smith apple salad, which was a refreshing mix of greens, apples (dried and fresh), hazelnuts, pinot vinaigrette, goat cheese, and dried cranberries ($19) and added chicken for $9. I got their cinnamon roll latte ($10), which, to my surprise, came with a "mini" version of their signature cinnamon roll. Came in on a busy Saturday morning, super grateful we made a reservation as they were pretty busy! Each of us ordered an iced latte, we enjoyed the cinnamon roll latte, but found the cinnamon roll they gave with each order to be extremely dry and crumbly. We decided to not order the giant cinnamon roll, based on our experience with the mini ones. 2 out of the 4 water glasses on our table were a little cloudy and smudged; seemed to be not washed properly. I ordered the sweet potato hash and found it to be extremely bland and the eggs were more over hard than over medium. Seems like they didn't even sauté the spinach that was in the hash, more so just threw a handful in. The alfredo sauce that was served with the hash I asked to be put on the side, it had a strong rosemary flavor, not the best. The biscuits and gravy were covered in more cheese than gravy, and the gravy was on the thinner side and was reminiscent of the Alfredo sauce served alongside my hash. We found the sausage to have a particularly overwhelming taste of sage, which is common in sausages but it was unpleasant mixed with the maple flavor. Our waiter was nice, we could tell he was hustling trying to accommodate everyone in his section. Overall, we found Plums to be a busy spot that served good iced lattes, and would recommend skipping out on the food if you are really hungry. read more

This was one of the WORST dining experiences I've ever had, from the hostess to the food quality and management on duty (only waitress was nice). From the moment we arrived, we experienced a lot of attitude while trying to get our table. We already had a reservation, yet it took about an hour to be seated. We spoke with the manager in person, and unfortunately, his attitude was rude as well lame excuses, blames... We should of just left... When our food finally arrived, I ordered a cheeseburger and was extremely disappointed. I asked for the beef patty to be medium-well, but it was extremely dry and tasted as if it had been reheated. The onions smelled bad (old), the potato was partially raw, and the lettuce appeared dirty. I actually had to wash the lettuce when I got home (took it to go). I only took a couple of bites because I didn't want to make a scene in front of my friends after we had already waited so long and were starving. I thought maybe I could eat the rest later, but later that evening my stomach started feeling upset. When I tried the food again, it tasted terrible, like it had been sitting around for days. I called the next day to report what happened and expected, at the very least, an apology or some concern about the quality of the food. Instead, Chris the manager, was extremely rude and dismissive. I explained that my stomach had been upset for the second day after eating their food. I even offered to bring the food back, but he said no and then told me he wasn't sure what I had done to it. For real? When I told him that the restaurant had terrible customer service, he actually called me a "terrible customer." yep, just like that. Absolutely unbelievable. Mistakes can happen with food and service, but the way a business handles a complaint says a lot. In this case, there was no apology, no concern, and no accountability, only attitude and disrespect. Then we got the Santa Fe eggs Benedict, which I'll say it was pretty good. Good size meal. It was very flavorful. The hash browns on the side were probably my favorite thing we got as well. It's not your typical Benedict though; it's got kind of like a chipotle flavor to it, so just be ready for that. Not typically my preferred flavor but I liked it. If you want a standard Benedict then don't get it, but if you want a good fun variation, this is a good one. Then we also got a coffee and cappuccino. I'd probably pass on the cap next time. I had such high hopes for what has been said to be one of the best cinnamon rolls in Orange County. but boy, was I disappointed. I placed an order online because I wanted a cinnamon roll for New Year's Day morning. Since this place is about 25 miles from my home, I picked it up as late as I could on New Year's Eve. I came home to give it a little taste test before serving it to our family and guests the next day... and it was awful. It was extremely dry (both in appearance and texture) and looked and tasted stale. It also had a weird coating of dry, powdery, bitter cinnamon on the outer edge and was seriously lacking frosting. I would compare it to a day-old cinnamon roll from a cheap donut shop.. certainly not worth the $20 I paid for it. To me, there was absolutely nothing about this cinnamon roll that was noteworthy. It paled in comparison to the many photos I saw in other Yelp reviews. My guess is they couldn't keep up with holiday demand and pre-baked too many too early. Being forced to produce in quantities that are abnormal definitely makes quality suffer. Also worth noting: when I went in to pick up my order, the woman asked if I wanted a premade cinnamon roll or one to bake at home. I had no idea the bake-at-home option even existed and didn't see anything about it on the website (and I definitely would have chosen that option). But once she realized I had already placed my order and wasn't ordering in person, she said, "Oh, well you already ordered the premade one, so that's what I have to give you." I would say maybe next time I'd try the bake-at-home version, but honestly there probably won't be a next time. We tried this place again today. We walked in without a reservation around 10:30 on a Saturday. The place was packed, and the wait was about 30 minutes. They offer plenty of indoor and outdoor shaded patio seating, and the overall vibe is relaxed and easygoing. I ordered the Dutch baby with berries which was excellent, and my husband ordered the huevos rancheros and he was satisfied with his plate as well. They have lots of fun drinks on the menu, and I'm looking forward to trying some next time. Came to this spot on Sunday for brunch! It was busy and packed. It's located in a plaza with good amount of parking, but it might be hard to find during peak times. We luckily made a reservation and got to skip the wait. Unfortunately, we were seated outside so our table didn't get checked in too much. The food was delicious and portions are huge! Ordered a cinnamon bun un for the table and it was huge! 5 of us split and there was still so much left. I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was good and packed with pico and avocado. The tortilla was a weird texture. It was both soft and stiff at the same time, but it was hard to break apart. The sweet potato hash was also good but I was a bit disappointed to see the sweet potato was not in hash form but it was cubed. We've never tried a breakfast place with pancakes, bacon, and fruit salad this delicious! Blueberry and lemon curd pancakes was bomb! Although the wait was a little long, the service was great, and we had a wonderful experience overall. Cute decor inside as well. read more

Came here on a weekend and thankfully went 30 min after opening so it was a short 15/20 minute wait for a party of two. Interiors of the restaurant is simple and modern, they also offer limited seating outside. Service was as expected for a Saturday morning. EATS SUNRISE ON 17TH- I love that they have a good handful selection of mocktails! It's really hard to find restaurants that carry alternatives. This was refreshing and a perfect blend which included Pineapple juice, blood orange purée and tonic water. DUNGENESS CRAB OMELETTE- this was a bit pricey but surprisingly there was a lot of crab in the omelette so it was worth it, very tasty and accompanied with a side of asparagus and hollandaise SANTA FE EGGS BENEDICT - hubby got this one but I had a few bites of it, eggs were cooked perfectly, chipotle hollandaise sauce was different ! *we also got pancakes but I forgot what they were called, decent -fluffy and the compote was flavorful! read more

We came for Saturday breakfast and were told it would be a 30minute wait. However we waited half that time and noticed plenty of open seating inside. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and the patty melt with seasoned potatoes. Biscuits and gravy were excellent. Patty melt was underwhelming. Our server was very friendly and she was attentive enough. I would come back to try other items. read more
