I tried Cappy's cafe today. It was such amazing meal. Had me full for awhile for our adventure in the city of New port. I ordered Cappy bbq prime rib sandwich with house fries. Coleslaw was made to perfection. Perfectly balanced with the sandwich. Usually the coleslaw is really sweet and kills the other flavors but this one was made to go with everything. The house fries reminded me of shakeys so much. I put Parmesan cheese on my mojos. I thought I was weird for it but guess not now!! I really liked how they have bizzy bag. What is it you ask!! It comes with a puzzle, 1 rainbow coloring pencil with book to color, I believe it's shaving cream slime, and a snake. What also cool is you get to keep everything. I had wanted to try Cappy's Cafe for a while, but unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We arrived around 9 a.m. The parking situation was great, with plenty of spaces, and although the restaurant seemed busy, there were open tables and we were seated right away. From there, the service was confusing and inattentive. The first server came to take our drink order. When my sister asked about lattes, she said they had them but couldn't show us where they were on the menu--and didn't make any effort to find out. We asked for a few more minutes, and then she didn't return for quite a while. Even when she came back, no one offered or brought water for the table or the kids. We tried to give her our food order, but she explained that she only handled drinks and that we had to wait for another server. It took a while for the food server to come over, and then the food also took a long time to arrive. The latte was extremely sweet and not enjoyable. To their credit, they were nice about replacing it with brewed coffee and removed the latte from the bill, although we were charged for the brewed coffee. The food itself was mediocre at best. We ordered one children's meal with sausage and another with bacon, but both initially arrived with bacon. The bacon was very tough. They did correct the mistake and bring out the sausage when we asked. The sunny-side-up eggs were barely cooked, and the pancakes were just okay. My sister's meat-lovers omelet was especially disappointing. It wasn't soft or fluffy--it looked more like a thin egg crepe wrapped around pieces of ham, sausage, and bacon. We also had to specifically ask before we finally received water. For the prices--around $25 per person--we expected much better quality and more attentive service. We spend about the same at places like the Original Pancake House and receive much better food and service. The staff were accommodating when we asked them to correct the sausage and replace the latte, which we appreciated. However, the overall quality of the food, the long waits, and the disorganized service made the experience not worth the price. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

My wife and I wanted the best breakfast in Newport Beach. We searched Yelp and Cappy's popped into our feed. We drove there and on the outside of the restaurant was a sign the read "Voted best breakfast in Newport Beach" - looks like we found it. Well, maybe at one time it was the best, but definitely not today. The service was mediocre and the staff seemed to be too busy to refill my coffee on the regular. The ambiance is actually very charming and made the dining experience feel very beachy. The place is very clean and the restrooms were well maintained. The food was very mediocre. I had the Seafood Benny and the English muffins were soggy. My plate of food was barely warm when it was served. The hash browns were undercooked and very bland. The bacon was not tender at all and its texture reminded me of jerky. Pro tip for Cappys: Get back to what made you "the best" and tighten up the service and food quality. read more

My family used to come here when I was a baby and I'm grateful I had the chance to return as an adult to appreciate the food! We got really simple meals just eggs bacon avo and refried beans-- but everything was so good. Best breakfast I've had in a while for just simple items. It was a Sunday morning around 11, very busy so it took about 30-40 minutes to get our food, but the drinks we had while waiting made it okay! Highly recommend both the rum punch and the Bloody Mary. The parking here fills up quick. We arrived about 15 minutes before they opened (we didn't check the hours before hand) and there was already a line of people waiting to get in. Which we took as a good sign. They do have a couple of benches outside if you have to wait to be seated. Once they opened we were seated right away by friendly and smiling staff. My Finance normally love going to Cappy's Cafe for either breakfast or brunch. The food is awesome and large portions. In addition, the waitresses are always attentive, and have upbeat attitudes. I would say that this is my favorite diner in Newport Beach. I say diner because it is like a traditional American diner, not so much a retro diner. It's located on beautiful 101 in North Newport Beach. Very close to the HB border. Parking is really easy, they have a free lot attached on both sides of the restaurant. Inside is also very large with two different dining areas, as well as many different type of seating options from booth, to table, to counter. The menu is also awesome, it has a lot of unique items on it and it's the sort of place where you can get something new each time. Our server was very polite but there was a bit of a delay getting our food items out, but it was very busy when we stopped in for Saturday morning brunch. The food quality and taste here really beats out the competition. Everything that we ordered was honestly fantastic. I ordered the Seafood Benny with Wild Caught Crab Meat and switched to the thick cut sourdough toast as the bottom, which I would recommend. The crab was fresh, the hollandaise had great flavor, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I honestly loved every bit of this dish and would highly recommend ordering it. I had a DELICIOUS iced peppermint mocha- as it was near Christmas! This place is very cute, very Newport Beach and Pacific Coast Highway with beautiful painted murals on the inside of the dining room depicting the theme of the ocean life around here. Saw a tiktok the other day and thought I need to try this place. I love breakfast and this quaint little restaurant did not disappoint. Super cute , nice indoor and outdoor seating. I tried the ham scramble and it was big. If you are a small eater you could definitely share this. The sourdough toast was a generous size and just lightly toasted (exactly how I like it). Pancakes are super huge and scrumptious with a hint of sugar and vanilla. Recommend! My sister and I split the CA omelette that was chock-a-block full of bacon. The cheese and avo were on top. I actually used some of the avo to smash on top of the toast then used 2 poached eggs from the pancake combo to make avocado toast! Price was a little steep ($54 for 2 entrees + 20% tip). We ate at Cappys Cafe for the first time. I ordered the prime rib sandwich on sour dough bread and it came with fries, horseradish and au jus. It was pretty amazing and lots of beef. It was not over seasoned like most places. Love their mocha coffee, it was one of the best coffee ever around. Then, we went again the following day because I loved the coffee so much. I wanted the lovely taste of the espresso and mocha. Again, they did not disappoint. This time, I ordered the California burrito. That was so favorable and yummy. My wife and I visited Cappy's Cafe for lunch. She ordered the fish and chips and I got the Cobb salad. Getting the order in was a challenge. While we were seated and given menus and water promptly, it was a good 25-minute wait before we got an order in. I stopped one server and asked if we could put our order in and she said she would let our server know. After 10 minutes, I asked another who said she would tell our server too. Then another who said the same thing. Finally, a smiling woman, our server, took our order. In the middle of our meal she stopped by our table to say that she was taking a break and someone else would help us. As we finishing our meal, two people came by to take our plates while we were literally eating from them --- and we had to stop them from doing so. As for the food, the batter for the fish for soggy (not great, when you're looking for a crispy fish on a fish and chips plate). The waffle fries weren't crispy either. The Cobb salad had tired ingredients (brown at the edge lettuce) and hard bacon that seemed like it had been prepared in the morning. (We ate at about 1 pm.) The ambiance of the cafe was very good --- buzzy with a friendly vibe and nice ocean inspired decor. My mom ordered the fish n chips. I would give my item 3/5 because compared to Ricardos im SJ, this one lacked the flavor, the ingrediants and was more expensive and lacked the value. Maybe its the location/demographic. Not horrible , just "meh". My moms order was better. Chunky fish in beer batter with onion rings instead of fries. The onion rings were bomb! Crispy. Large, and sooo good! The quality of the fish was equally good. Reminded me of fish and chips consumed on the southern hemisphere .
