My family used to come here when I was a baby and I'm grateful I had the chance to return as an adult to appreciate the food! We got really simple meals just eggs bacon avo and refried beans-- but everything was so good. Best breakfast I've had in a while for just simple items. It was a Sunday morning around 11, very busy so it took about 30-40 minutes to get our food, but the drinks we had while waiting made it okay! Highly recommend both the rum punch and the Bloody Mary. Everything was fresh and flavorful with a cozy environment. Will return whenever I'm back in town :)
The parking here fills up quick. We arrived about 15 minutes before they opened (we didn't check the hours before hand) and there was already a line of people waiting to get in. Which we took as a good sign. They do have a couple of benches outside if you have to wait to be seated. Once they opened we were seated right away by friendly and smiling staff. Once our order was taken it didn't take long to get. Everything was served piping hot and delicious. The crab omelette did not disappoint. Our coffee and waters stayed topped off. Excellent customer service. They offer a full bar along with the laidback vibes you come to expect at the beach.

We ordered and it took nearly an hour to receive our food. They were busy, but I would have loved for our waitress to update us or come by the table during that time - we did need to flag her down. The food was great once we got it. We tried the bagel breakfast sandwich, protein pancakes, build your own omelette, and the sausage skillet. The breakfast sandwich was absolutely massive! Actually, all of the portions were pretty big, enough to share between two people for sure.
Whenever I visit my friends in Orange County, we always have lunch at Cappys Cafe. And, we always order the same thing , the prime rib melt even though their breakfasts look delicious! This time it was delicious as always, but skimpy on the Swiss cheese. The meat was piled high and tender. You have a choice of several sides to go with it to include fries, onion rings, potato salad, and cottage cheese. I chose onion rings and they were delicious! And, no extra charge for them. Service is very fry. I definitely will be back!

Roadside joint recommended by local friends so we met them there! Somewhat busy but we're able to snag a table immediately, score! Chose the breakfast burrito, selected chorizo for the meat, and asked for crispy hash browns. Good tortilla, fillings, and salsa, but they forgot the crispy potatoes, so the burrito was all one consistency.. Ambiance is roadside diner, service was friendly and prompt, and prices are in line with the area.
Stopped into Cappys Cafe on a Friday morning. They're a popular spot so it was busy but that's to be expected for brunch. They have a great menu with plenty of options and I like how they have smaller portion plates available if you aren't in the mood for a huge meal. I ordered the grilled fish taco plate. My boyfriend ordered pancakes, two eggs, and bacon. The portions are huge here so come hungry. The food was tasty and the quality was good. The service was great. The hostesses and servers were all friendly and moved quickly.

Decided to stop here for brunch on our drive and was not disappointed. There is plenty of parking towards the back of the restaurant and we were seated quickly on the patio. We ordered the fish and chips, and the cinnamon roll French toast. The fish and chips were good, but not the best I've had (I prefer crispy) and the French toast was really good! Service was friendly and attentive, and overall the restaurant gave off casual diner vibes. Worth the visit!
The wife and I were looking for a brunch spot near our hotel, so we did what so many folks do. We turned to Yelp, found a place with strong reviews, and decided to give it a try. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality. We were seated promptly, and the service that followed was nothing short of exceptional. The staff was attentive, checking in just the right amount, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Now, the food was outstanding. Well seasoned and full of flavor. In fact, it was so good I found myself wondering about the chef, because you could taste some culture in every bite. What stood out most, though, was how the entire experience lived up to its promise: fresh, local, and friendly.

The Fish and Chips was average, hoping for a crispier fish wrapper on the outside. The fish was dry. The chips were dry as well. The Cobbs Salad was unexciting.
I would say that this is my favorite diner in Newport Beach. I say diner because it is like a traditional American diner, not so much a retro diner. It's located on beautiful 101 in North Newport Beach. Very close to the HB border. Parking is really easy, they have a free lot attached on both sides of the restaurant. Inside is also very large with two different dining areas, as well as many different type of seating options from booth, to table, to counter. The menu is also awesome, it has a lot of unique items on it and it's the sort of place where you can get something new each time. Our server was very polite but there was a bit of a delay getting our food items out, but it was very busy when we stopped in for Saturday morning brunch. The food quality and taste here really beats out the competition. Everything that we ordered was honestly fantastic. I ordered the Seafood Benny with Wild Caught Crab Meat and switched to the thick cut sourdough toast as the bottom, which I would recommend. The crab was fresh, the hollandaise had great flavor, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I honestly loved every bit of this dish and would highly recommend ordering it. I am eager to stop in again next time I am down in the OC area.
I like their pancakes, it's like they put some cornmeal in them. Ordering a single pancake on the side is plenty, as they're big and thick. The pancake combo comes with 3 of them. I also tried their sausage patty. In a good way it reminds me of the McDonald's sausage patty. I love it!

I tried Cappy's cafe today. It was such amazing meal. Had me full for awhile for our adventure in the city of New port. I ordered Cappy bbq prime rib sandwich with house fries. Coleslaw was made to perfection. Perfectly balanced with the sandwich. Usually the coleslaw is really sweet and kills the other flavors but this one was made to go with everything. The house fries reminded me of shakeys so much. I put Parmesan cheese on my mojos. I thought I was weird for it but guess not now!! I really liked how they have bizzy bag. What is it you ask!! It comes with a puzzle, 1 rainbow coloring pencil with book to color, I believe it's shaving cream slime, and a snake. What also cool is you get to keep everything. My wife and I wanted the best breakfast in Newport Beach. We searched Yelp and Cappy's popped into our feed. We drove there and on the outside of the restaurant was a sign the read "Voted best breakfast in Newport Beach" - looks like we found it. Well, maybe at one time it was the best, but definitely not today. The service was mediocre and the staff seemed to be too busy to refill my coffee on the regular. The ambiance is actually very charming and made the dining experience feel very beachy. The place is very clean and the restrooms were well maintained. The food was very mediocre. I had the Seafood Benny and the English muffins were soggy. My plate of food was barely warm when it was served. The hash browns were undercooked and very bland. The bacon was not tender at all and its texture reminded me of jerky. Pro tip for Cappys: Get back to what made you "the best" and tighten up the service and food quality. read more

Most of the food has been great in our two visits, I love how it's a clear staple in the community with 44 years in biz so they are doing something right! Good selection of breakfast & lunch options. Saw a tiktok the other day and thought I need to try this place. I love breakfast and this quaint little restaurant did not disappoint. Super cute , nice indoor and outdoor seating. I tried the ham scramble and it was big. If you are a small eater you could definitely share this. The sourdough toast was a generous size and just lightly toasted (exactly how I like it). A big plus, they have orange marmalade I will definitely be bringing my friends and family here. Remember to do random acts of kindness as it will make everyone feel wonderful. A long time staple on PCH, Cappy's has been serving up decent breakfast (and lunch) since 1982. Kewl surf city vibe both by decor and clientele. Pancakes are super huge and scrumptious with a hint of sugar and vanilla. Recommend! My sister and I split the CA omelette that was chock-a-block full of bacon. The cheese and avo were on top. I actually used some of the avo to smash on top of the toast then used 2 poached eggs from the pancake combo to make avocado toast! Price was a little steep ($54 for 2 entrees + 20% tip). My wife and I visited Cappy's Cafe for lunch. She ordered the fish and chips and I got the Cobb salad. Getting the order in was a challenge. While we were seated and given menus and water promptly, it was a good 25-minute wait before we got an order in. I stopped one server and asked if we could put our order in and she said she would let our server know. After 10 minutes, I asked another who said she would tell our server too. Then another who said the same thing. Finally, a smiling woman, our server, took our order. In the middle of our meal she stopped by our table to say that she was taking a break and someone else would help us. As we finishing our meal, two people came by to take our plates while we were literally eating from them --- and we had to stop them from doing so. As for the food, the batter for the fish for soggy (not great, when you're looking for a crispy fish on a fish and chips plate). The waffle fries weren't crispy either. The Cobb salad had tired ingredients (brown at the edge lettuce) and hard bacon that seemed like it had been prepared in the morning. (We ate at about 1 pm.) The ambiance of the cafe was very good --- buzzy with a friendly vibe and nice ocean inspired decor. The food and service, however, made our dining experience here very average (and the prices for the dishes are definitely on the high side). read more

Thank you Ann for your excellent service. My mom and I came here based on a yelp search and are happy we did. Located along PCH near the Ocean Cappys Cafe is one to visit. With ample parking and great variety of menu options to choose from there is something for everyone. When I visited recently, i choose a mexican tostada salad because i love the crispy shell. My mom ordered the fish n chips. I would give my item 3/5 because compared to Ricardos im SJ, this one lacked the flavor, the ingrediants and was more expensive and lacked the value. Maybe its the location/demographic. Not horrible , just "meh". My moms order was better. Chunky fish in beer batter with onion rings instead of fries. The onion rings were bomb! Crispy. Large, and sooo good! The quality of the fish was equally good. Reminded me of fish and chips consumed on the southern hemisphere . I would skip the tostada salad and make way for other items. read more

Decent breakfast spot close to the water. Very nice staff and friendly service. For me, the breakfast skillet, meat lovers omelet, and biscuits and gravy were lacking overall in seasoning and flavor, but that's just my opinion.
