This is one of my sister in law's favorite bars in Newport, so we came in here while we were in town on vacation. We came relatively early on a Saturday, totally forgetting it was St. Patrick's Day weekend and this place would be poppin (which it definitely was as the day carried on). We were seated right away for breakfast. On weekends, they don't start serving lunch till 11:45am, but we got to enjoy their breakfast. I didn't even realize they serve food. We were seated in the upstairs area which was pretty awesome because you got more of a view of the ocean! It was awesome. The guy that seated us was one of the brothers that works there and he was so nice! He told us to let him know when we were ready to leave because it gets crazy and people try to steal tables hahah. He even tried to get us to stay later and offered to buy us all a shot if we did, which of course, my family never says no to, so they all got to enjoy that haha. He was fantastic! Our server was also amazing though I didn't get her name. The staff here really is outstanding! To eat, I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and a side of their fruit bowl. It was all really good. The food came out pretty quick which was great. My family all enjoyed their HUGE beers and mimosas. But really, the drinks look like they could be a bowl of soup haha. We loved it here and I'd definitely come back. Once the afternoon hit, they turned the music up for the St. Patrick's Day crowd. It was definitely a fun atmosphere! read more

Location wise this place deserves 5 stars because it's right on the boardwalk. There are seats available facing out the open air windows where you can grab a bite and/or drink and people watch the day away. Loved that so much. I'm sure this place is a blast at night too for watching big games or partying with groups. Food and service were more of a 3-4 star event though. The servers were super slow to bring over menus, take our orders, come back for refills, bring out our food, etc. It was a lot of neck craning and eye contact to get help. We ordered breakfast and portions were huge, but they got my order wrong, and the biscuits tasted like they were left in a fridge soaking up food smells. The rest of my tablemates were similarly bummed by the quality of the breakfast. Don't trash the place too badly though. This was one visit at the first hour of business on a sleepy day. Maybe Lunch and Dinner is far better, and maybe another breakfast visit could turn out to be fantastic too. If you're just looking for drinks by the beach, or want a high energy spot to watch the big game, you'll be very happy here. read more

I like bar food and sports, so I went to Mutt Lynch's about twice in one week since hockey playoffs are this time of year. Their food isn't too bad especially if you want to watch sports, enjoy greasy food with a friend, or need a quick bite after a beach day. I think kids are allowed until a certain time (but I'm not sure when) cos once the sun sets, they have a bouncer checking IDs. Lots of seating available. Service is ok. When you get inside, you can pick any table of your choosing and your server will find you. Also, the restrooms are clean! First time I came here, I tried the lemon pepper pterodactyl wings and sweet potato fries. The wings were kinda bland and needed ranch for flavor. The sweet potato fries were pretty greasy but went great with a beer. I've also tried their California Dreamin' burger with garlic fries. This burger was so yummy and filling!! First time coming here because I live in Newport and I was really excited, but unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. Our server was rude from the start and treated me and my friend with unnecessary attitude. We ordered our food and even closed out our bill, yet our food sat under the heat lamp getting cold while our server stood around talking to other patrons, completely ignoring it. By the time it was finally brought to us, it was clear it had been sitting there for a while. When I was visibly frustrated, our server repeatedly said, "Sounds like you have a complaint, do you need the manager?" in a condescending tone. I initially said I didn't want a manager and simply wanted to explain the issue since he kept asking, but he continued pushing it. So eventually, I agreed. To be honest, the person he brought over didn't seem professional, and it appeared they had already been discussing us beforehand, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. Just a bit of advice for our server: kindness costs nothing. There was no reason for the hostility, especially toward two respectful customers.. Very disappointing service. The attitude was unnecessary and embarrassing. Safe to say I won't be back. and I definitely won't be recommending this place to any of my friends in Newport Beach. Great location right on the boardwalk with a view of the water. Loud music and high energy environment with massive drinks as I'm sure you've read. Large extensive food menu. The buffalo chicken wrap and Garlic fries were great. I've previously had their breakfast burritos over brunch, which were solid as well. I didn't have much time here as I needed to get to my next stop but did have time to enjoy one drink. I love the beach and this place was right on the water. Bartender was very nice and man they had a huge selection of draft beers here and I was really overwhelmed. But, I spied a mango guava wheat and that was my immediate choice and it's a great beer! Subtle hints of mango and guava and a true wheat beer. I couldn't stay in here too long and get rowdy and had to move one but damn I wished I had one more hour here just to enjoy one more mango guava wheat and the beautiful, gorgeous sunset! Went for a breakfast meet up and it was very much beyond expectations. Right down on the board walk by the beach in Newport, so it was pretty good view beyond the parking lot. Nice open air feel because of all the open windows. It doesn't have that full bar smell, which is actually nice in the morning. Service was good. They have quite a few people working walking by checking on everybody so that was nice. I got the hillbilly hash without gravy . I wasn't expecting it to be as delicious as it was. Like I said previously, it exceeded my expectation. The sausage was pan grilled very nicely had some crispy edges, and the bacon was super crispy. The potatoes were super crispy, and the sautéed veggies were delicious as well eggs were cooked perfectly. If you are down in Newport or even if you aren't and want some good food, give mutt lunch as a try. read more

I recently returned to Newport Beach for a quick trip back from my studies at Juilliard (I'm earning my masters in dance). My platonic step sister invited me to join her at Mutt Lynch's and though I've never been I had heard of it. My first impression was shock and awe. So many smoke shows! I'm used to the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn, but the vibe had me shaking my bod- what's more is these giant chalices of beer! If there's anything I love more than interpretive dance, it's beer! I can out drink most heterosexual men, that's one thing people don't expect from me. Anyway, I think I'll be a regular after college. I have a red eye back to JFK in a few minutes. He was so busy doing nothing, just walked back and forth and totally ignored us. I finally told him we wanted to order. Great experience! We came in for the Tuesday $5 taco special and were impressedhuge, filling tacos for the price. We also tried the sea tacos, which come with three big fish tacos, and they were happy to make them one of each. On Mondays they have a buy one get one-free pizza deal, which is an amazing value too. Our daughter had the kids hot dog and loved it, the portion was surprisingly big. The waitress was very friendly and suggested a few drinks that we enjoyed. Have been 5 times in the last 5 months and food is good but every time the drinks are HORRIBLE, I mean the worst drink I've ever had. So went last night and I finally found out the vodka in the drink is that rice vodka crap which tastes bad and gives me a horrible headache since I'm allergic to rice. Each time I go I read the menu to make sure I order a different drink because previous ones were terrible and never saw anything about not real vodka, tequila etc. Another table next to us were talking about with the waitress and that is how I found out. MUTTS HAS THE AUDCITY TO CHARGE 14 TO 16 BUCKS FOR FAKE WINE BASED ALCOHOL. Once the drink so bad I had them send it back because it was undrinkable and still nothing was said about rice alcohol. Mutt Lynch's at 23rd street and oceanfront, overlooking the ocean and a public paid parking lot. I've been coming here for many many years because I love the vibe here and I love the schooners of beer. Mutts has redecorated their bar since the Covid crisis. It's a fresh new upbeat look compared to what it once was, and it's a very different vibe now. Think dive bar by the ocean that's actually nice inside now. The food is typical bar food, decent when you're drinking. Their pizzas have always been good. The staff is generally fast getting orders and then delivering drinks and food. If you can sit at the front window area, that is the best spot to be for ocean smells and people watching. There is public paid parking out front however after a certain hour the parking I believe becomes free. Mutts is a Newport Beach staple, if you've never been, give them a try. Taco Tuesday Heaven!!!!! Quick set up: I was in the area on business for one day. Myself and two others had a meeting in the morning and flights to catch in the afternoon. One of the guys in my group had never been to California before and had never seen the Pacific Ocean. With some time to kill, it was suggested that was stop at the beach to cross the Pacific Ocean off of his bucket list. It was December 17th but the weather was gorgeous. I believe it was around 70 degrees. Sun was shining and overall just a beautiful Cali day. We took a quick walk down the pier at Newport Beach. Saw some dolphins, surfers and a number of people fishing off of the pier. Now, it was time for a drink. We had tried one place but it was closed for a private event so they recommended Mutt Lynch's. Down the way we walked. With an oceanfront facing view, Mutt Lynch's was mostly open air in the front. You can't escape the beautiful view. As we walked up to the bar, I noticed all of the eclectic decor throughout with Christmas decorations intertwined for the holidays. As having a drink was on our minds, we each had a seat at the bar and ordered a beer. Food was not on our radar until..... There were two bartenders working. A man and a woman. Both were extremely friendly and conversational. When asked if we were eating, we kind of beat around the bush not knowing if we were going to have something. Then the male bartender proclaimed, "It's Taco Tuesday and we got some bomb-ass tacos!" He had me. I ordered the steak taco. This street taco style taco was one of the best I've ever had. The key was the steak. Larger chunks of steak that were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Not dry and chewy but but rather tender and ridiculously flavorful. Not a whole lot of frills either. If I remember correctly, I think there was onion and cilantro and they were served on corn tortilla's. These tacos were in fact, bomb-ass tacos!!! As we were sitting there, enjoying our tacos and beverages during a Tuesday lunch, I couldn't help but notice the shelf of Mutt Lynch's hats on the wall. One of these hats really caught my eye. It was a simply black truckers hat with a grey front and bill with Mutt Lynch's logo embroidered in white on the front. I had figured they'd be about $40 or $50 but I thought I'd ask. $27, tax included. Done! Love that hat. It's got a great look too it and, well, you can never have too many hats. Would I go back? I would love to go back. The next time I'm out in Cali, I will definitely make the trip out to Mutt Lynch's. Given that I extensively travel around the world for business, I'm going to try and remember to take my Mutt Lynch's hat with me and get snapshots of that little gem all over the world and shoot them back to the fine people at Mutt Lynch's. This place is ideal for day drinking. The massive margaritas and beers are so fun, especially with the busy indoor/outdoor bar going on. The food is classic American (a lot of fried options), not bad but also nothing to write home about (you'll be too busy writing ab the 32 oz beer). The night scene here is also pretty decent. I think it could be a little hit or miss, but overall it's acceptable. read more
