I accidentally left behind a watch, fully expecting it to be gone. To my absolute shock, a team member turned it in and the owner personally returned it to us the next morning. That level of honesty and integrity is rare and says everything about the people who work here and the environment they've built. I had to ask around for these names! Disgusting service and I felt unsafe Came in around afternoon. Now I'm throwing up and re thinking the food I ate and drank. This gentleman and women. I had to ask around for their names. Jenna/gena & Jordan. Lady was outright rude and disgusting. She gave a group of her own friend a discount and she didn't even buy anything. How come my friend who works here doesn't give me a discount? Found her social media which encourages me to not come back to support this business. Lady flipped us off, she was off the clock I can tell. I tried approaching her just isn't professional. The unprofessional worker mentioned she can not get fired as she's off the clock. Reviews state "best service" but I'd recommend giving this business a call to ensure you'll get the right service in Newport. I'm not sure if this worker was drunk or having a bad day. The gentlemen was plain out dumb. He has a customer service voice that annoys me so much and my group had to find another Pub to go to. I wasn't bothered at first but we saw him picking his nose. He didn't wash his hands and started contaminating the silverware. Where is health inspection!?!. My family & I will be looking elsewhere. I would not recommend hiring young adolescents. Came in on Tuesday for their Prime Rib dinner special. I can't believe I forgot how good it really is! The cut was perfectly cooked medium rare with a side of horseradish and Aujus with a side of steamed veggies and a loaded baked potato. You also get a side salad with dressing of choice. It is the best Prime rib deal in SoCal with no competitors for a price of $21!!!!!! The wife and my buddy ordered the same thing and they also agreed it was awesome. Our server was a sweetheart and was always checking on us to ensure we had everything we needed. Great location on the peninsula with plenty to do walking distance. Malarkys has been a staple in Newport for a very long time. The food and location are amazing. The cooks really know what they are doing here. They even added an extra seating area recently and it's stunning. The parking can be quite tricky but not too bad. I highly recommend coming for brunch or lunch because the food is what keeps this place going. The staff is a little salty and not easy to order from, which makes it difficult to feel welcomed at times. I'm not speaking from a visitor but as a local who has lived here my whole life. Always a go-to when we don't mind the 30-mile drive. Service by Ashley is always excellent, even when she is short-handed and the place is busy. Nice that they have Guinness, Harp and Smithwick on tap.The Prime Rib French Dip is a wife fave. The burgers are big and excellent. Have yet to try the fish and chips but we know the chips are good and the fish is cold water cod. I have been going to Malarky's since the early 80s and the vibe is still locals hang, almost but not quite dive bar. The food is too good for that designation. I can only review on their takeout service: Five stars for the food!!! Quick service too. Overall experience is just that you'll have great food, but maybe not always a welcomed greeting or the friendliest setting. Also, check for your garnish or extra butter requests, as I have had to remind them for our takeout order requests even though we tip on takeout everytime. They've seriously got some of the best pub food and breakfasts. Been enjoying their fish and chips, and their breakfast here the past few weeks. Not the friendliest staff I've noticed- but maybe it's because it's takeout and it's probably just the bar ambiance. Food won't disappoint though from my experience. I found it very underwhelming for the price. The meat was originally overcooked, but that was corrected. The meat had zero flavor though. I also didn't love that I was charged an extra $3 for the baked potato when the waitress didn't say that when she asked. Maybe I missed that on the menu. I was super excited to try out the newly remodeled Malarkys patio for the start of the NFL season! It had a great energy and tons of tvs playing all the games. The food was great and they had a large menu to select from. Only thing is I think they weren't prepared for how crowded the patio was going to be so service was slower than normal and had to constantly flag down servers when we needed something. What can I say, I'm in love with this place! Came to meet friends for football and met some great new people, ate some good food and maybe was a little disappointed in some of my games lol. They have a huge square bar with lots of space and lots of TVs for viewing. A great menu with just about anything you could want Irish and otherwise. Our bartender, Baily was the sweetest, and Gavin wasn't bad either, haha. We had a French dip with fries and a pastrami with onion rings and some chili. Everything was great but a little more meat on the sandwiches would've been appreciated. I will definitely keep coming back. read more

When I was younger my friends and I went to Malarkys all the time. The food was so good back then! I hadn't been there for at least 15 years but I did tonight for dinner and was so disappointed! What they called meat loaf was sliced razor thin, dried out and flavorless. My friends had pub burgers and I thought there's no way they can mess that up, but they both described them also as flavorless. I had a vodka and tonic and that was the only silver lining. I used to love this place so I was very sad it declined so much. I can only describe the food as similar to a generic frozen meal you buy at the store and microwave. Truly awful. Guess they just don't care anymore. They've expanded it so if they improved the food maybe there would have been more than a handful of people there at dinner hour. read more

The food isn't your average bar food. It tastes like everything is made fresh. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked and you could tell the fish was fresh. The cod melted in your mouth, the breading was strong enough to not disintegrate with lemon and malt vinegar. The fish was crunchy and tasty. The sampler platter was enough for 4 people, onions rings, chicken nuggets, potatoe skins and wings served with ranch. My husband said his corned beef was excellent with just enough of a tangy bite. Malarkys was packed with people eating. Our server Kylee was fantastic she was all smiles and attentive. We were greeted fast as soon as we sat down. Kylee knew the menu well and had a few recommendations for us. One was the Prime Rib dinner $21 yes $21. A lot of patrons were ordering that. To top it off my wife's drink was refilled 3 times. It's the small things that matter. The manager Gavin was just as awesome he greeted and checked on our table 3 times. Very friendly and has been at Malarkys for quite a few years. Now for the food wow just wow! We started with the Irish Stew and it was perfection. My wife had the Caesar Chicken Salad and I had the Fish n Chips. Both were delicious.
