We came to The Place in CDM on a Sunday at 1:30 p.m. to watch the Eagles game. With the Chargers and Raiders also playing, I expected it to be a busy day and some TV competition. The place is small but decent, with a side room, pool table, outdoor area, and a fair number of TVs. However, it lacks the flow and atmosphere of a larger sports bar. The food was average: my medium burger arrived overcooked and dry, and the $3 upcharge for sweet potato fries felt steep. The bigger issue was that the TVs froze for about 30+ minutes, leaving us watching the game on our phones. I understand technical problems happen, but the response felt lacking. The manager or owner seemed stressed while trying to fix the issue, but there was little communication or customer recovery. A quick acknowledgment or small gesture would have helped - free beer or fries goes a long way toward recovering after your tech fumble. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but between the average food, TV problems, and limited response, I'd probably choose another place next time. read more

Staying at the Marriott Newport Beach. US Open of the Women's Finals with Coco Gauff vs Rybakina playing and the 49ers vs Rams first game of the season tonight. Looked for a sports bar and not disappointed. It was record hot all day but they have an open air bar that supplies a cool breeze on a hot day. They were busy, but the great tag team with the bartenders and waitstaff cross trained was great. We had great service and TV's all around. Customers cheering on their own team and players. The bar food is bar food but it comes out piping hot. I included a picture of the Patty Melt with steam coming off of it. The onion rings were the same. The menu online doesn't say it, but it is a full bar. It feels like a great locals bar and inviting to visitors. read more

Walked in on a Sunday afternoon. Hopping to find a new local dive bar. This was not it. Definitely felt like the moment we walked in every one was like who are you and why are you here. Beer was stale /flat and honestly tasted bad. Thank goodness they were only 6.50 each we drank less than half and left. And honestly we won't be back. It was a drive up PCH on a Sunday. We stopped here for the coveted amazing Cheeseburger. It was actually not bad. Filled with a bunch of men talking sports and swapping war stories at the moment. I am big on people watching and this place served up enough of that to satisfy my apatite . Lots of Tv's, dark and very odd rooms all over the place. I came by here for a drink with a buddy, and I'm glad I did. The Place, or what is affectionately known as "The Palace", is a dive bar on PCH in Corona del Mar. You basically walk in and there are about 6 seats at the bar. There are also a few big tables for communal seating, TVs and surprisingly food. All of the foregoing adds to the charm of the place: 5 Stars. Mary is an excellent bartender. In addition to pouring stiff drinks, she compared sushi restaurants with my buddy bc they both live in coastal South County. We also struck up a convo with a regular patron and compared notes on restaurants: Fukn Yelpers! Hahahahaha: 5 Stars. Do yourself and hit this dive bar if you are looking for a place to drink before or after the many restaurants in the area. This is a great dive bar!! right on PCH, cant miss it! The parking cane be a pain at some times. We parking right behind the bar. Went in for lunch and a beer after a long day of work. The bartender got our drinks right away and we ordered from the menu. They do have a lot to choose from. We sat down in the front near the window. This place is your usual dive bar. That not clean look with regulars hanging around drinking. The TV's had mostly golf on... Really what a boring sport. they need to have full contact golf and make it interesting. HAHA... Well back to the bar. The food came out hot and was really good for a dive like this. I got the chicken sandwich and my friend got the burger. both were good. the service was walk to the bar if you needed another drink. My gal pal and I cruised around for a spot to hang out at and came across this...The Place. We didn't know what to expect except that it was a sports bar so we were more than a little intimidated when we walked in and everyone, including the bartender, gave us a very thorough lookover. We hurriedly found two chairs at the bar and sat down. We ordered our drinks (I gave my friend some grief for ordering WINE at a place like this - I had beer, ah-thank-you) and peered around to familiarize ourselves with the surroundings. It quickly became apparent that this place was a place for regulars. Everyone knew everyone, all ages and all races. Sounds cozy except when you're not in that social network. We decided to settle in for an hour or two so we ordered a club sandwich and a dinner salad to share. I'm going to guess food isn't their forte since the dinner salad wasn't more than a plate of romaine with a slice of tomato on top. The club sandwich was a slight improvement except the bacon was 1/20th degree away from being inedibly burnt. Eventually we decided that we should move it along and make room for all the regulars who came pouring in. We politely declined to order a second round and asked for our check (pretty decent drink prices). We paid the very reasonable tab and made our way back onto PCH to seek out more adventures. read more

This was my favorite little spot. I say was because I've been going here for years and always went in to cheer on my favorite team or grab a great burger and beer but now the staff has changed. It was nice to go in and cheer on the Chiefs with Mary, she had been a staple of the establishment for longer than I can remember. It's the staff that makes a place. The Place was we're we could go and see a familiar face, were Mary knew your drink and always had a good laugh. It's not easy to find an excellent bartender these days and when you do, they keep you coming back. When the atmosphere is just ok but the staff is amazing you compromise because it's nice to have a bar like cheers where everybody knows your name. This was the kind of place a woman felt comfortable going in alone to have a drink after work because Mary took care of you and introduced you to other regulars so you always felt wecome. I rarely give a one-star. But when staff members that are like family members are so easily pushed to the side it's disappointing. I won't be back. My friends won't be back. Disappointing. read more
