    Tuna melt
    Veronica S.

Me and my bestie came here for fun. Delish!! I somehow ate my entire burger and fries!! Had some of her tuna melt. It was also very flavorful. Came in the middle of the day so it wasn't busy. Fast service and our waitress even said we looked so young! Thanks! Haha we would come back if we lived closer!

I loved the food, and the service was okay. However, the music was far too loud--it felt like it was on full blast. The waiter had trouble hearing us, and we could barely hear each other without raising our voices.

SOOOO RANDOM!!! Ok who would have know that this little breakfast nook with Yellow Umbrellas would be home to the best......... wait for it .... Drumroll...... BISCUITS AND GRAVY(Babbyyyy) yes I said it and please challenge me... weather it's me or my mother in law, if biscuits and gravy are on the menu menu then at least one of us is trying it... and this time it was her!!! And we hit the JACKPOT BABY! Ok, sautéed red peppers bacon and wait for it Bacon... all in a classic gravy sauce on soft buttery biscuit.... Look you can just put potatoes in anything and to be honest if I would have know prior that it had that, I would have instantly said naw maybe next time.... But to my surprise it was perfect, they were soft honestly at times thought it was extra biscuit.... Any way that's enough biscuit rant! Got try this place and find something maybe you would like (poke nachos hint hint) WE LOVE SUMMER HOUSE!

After a first time visit to Sherman Library & Gardens- looked for a nearby place to have lunch and found this gem in Corona Del Mar. There are outdoor tables with umbrellas as well as seating inside a really cool cottage/ beach vibes home. Pretty cool. Was greeted and told they'd get a table ready for our large group. For coming in on a busy Saturday at 2pm- I was pleased with the shorter wait time. Our server was Pedro aka Superman. And he was awesome- considering he was on his own!! Now for the most important part: the food ;) For an appetizer we ordered their spinach and artichoke dip with chips. It was delicious and looked really fresh and well made. I ordered their albacore tuna melt with sweet potato fries. It comes with a long half pickle and a side of their orangy sauce (that has a nice kick!) my choice was delightful! Some of the other things ordered were their bacon avocado cheeseburger and regular cheeseburger with fries- both delicious and tasty meat patties. The owner even came to our table and said "how we doin family? He came over to introduce himself and to make sure we weren't missing anything. Will certainly be back and actually looking forward to their brunch menu.

Came with a friend because he likes it here. I just had bad luck and ordered the wrong thing. But, no dish should be wrong. He ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich and he said it was delish! I ordered the carnitas tacos and it was not good. The carnitas seemed stale and old. It was super dry and over done. The place was not busy and service was slow. I was not impressed and have no desire to come back.

We came in on a Monday afternoon and was set up in a perfect location to be able to park our stroller this was very kind of the staff right away. The inside is decorated so nicely it is like a beach bungalow and very comfortable. The food is fantastic, I had the ahi tuna salad and my Wife got the BLTA. The tuna salad was great there was plenty of tuna to be able to have a piece with every bite, it was flavorful zesty and fresh! Unfortunately I cannot say how the BLTA was as my wife refused to give me one bite it was so good, the French fries were thin and crispy, I liked this my wife not so much. Menu was pretty pricey but it's CDM, a very nice spot and we will certainly be back!

Such a cute gem and find on the street. Plenty of parking in the back, which I'd recommend instead of parallel street parking. It gets busy and hard to get out. It's a great American restaurant with fresh sandwiches. We enjoyed the burgers, fries and tacos. Glad that the tacos came in 3 as they should! Also have amazing homemade lemonade, make it with strawberries. They have TV too that broadcast live sports events. It is a little slower on service but didn't mind the wait. Overall spacious and cute spot that we'd return for lunch again!

2.5 stars The service was slow and our waiter "Superman" apologized to us at the end. It was all good because we weren't in a rush and enjoyed the sunshine while sitting outside. We came in with high expectations due to being wowed by the food in our past summers of coming here. However, it did not hit the mark. The burger was not a good burger at all. As I am writing this, I am still nauseous from it. It was 22 dollars where you can get a MUCH BETTER burger from "the Place" down the street or "shake shack" on crystal cove. Plus the advertised fries were small and few provided. It was too much burger meat (1/2 pound) and thick, rather than a smash burger form. The Mac and cheese was a let down and wayyy too much cheese! I don't plan to come back unless they reinvent their menu to be less heavy.

Hanger Steak sandwich with sweet potato fries.

Wonderful meals and Claudia, our wait person, was delightful. The Cobb salad was the best we've ever eaten. The couple that was with us had the Brie burger and hanger steak sandwich. The old fashion drink was one of the best we've had at a restaurant. Funky fun place with local charm.

Just looking for somewhere I could eat outside in Corona Del Mar. Found a parking Spot and looked across the street and found summer house. Had an outstanding lunch: salmon Caesar salad with top line Margarita. Only four outside tables, but other tables facing street with open windows. Excellent service by the way. Thanks!

Ask the Community - Summer House

I called several times Tuesday- no answer actually disconnected. I have a group of 14 for June 4th around 1:00. Is there a chance we can get a table for that many?

They are currently closed for renovations. Not sure how it will look when they reopen but it's very small, not a great spot for a party that size

I see this place doesn't accept reservation. Can we have an idea how busy the place is on weekday nights? (especially NPRW like now)

I'm here on a Monday afternoon, only 6 tables are taken. It's not busy at all! No wait

He walked us through the menu with confidence, offered thoughtful recommendations, and truly knew how to guide the table. What stood out most was his attention to detail. Brennan anticipated our needs before we even had to ask- including refreshing our plate settings before each course. That level of table service makes all the difference. The food presentation was stunning- beautifully plated and inviting. Even better, the flavors lived up to the visuals. Each selection was balanced and perfectly seasoned. The portions were satisfying, leaving just enough room to indulge in dessert. I recommended this restaurant to friends tonight (3/3/36) and I'll absolutely be back. It wasn't terrible, and we didn't leave thinking the food was awful, but for what the experience seems like it should have been it was not great. The signature cocktails are really nothing special and cost a lot. I personally had the Blood Orange Sour and might as well have just made my own whiskey sour at home and saved $17. We reserved a table outside and the atmosphere was nice and seats were comfortable. We're not sure if it was because we were sat in the far corner or they were understaffed, but the service was very slow, and even getting our card back after we paid took at least 10 minutes. Finally, the food was fine, aside from one of the salmon entrees coming out VERY rare. The restaurant ended up comping this dish for us. Although it is located in a resort, it is definitely a locals spot. Everyone appeared to know each other from the area. Very friendly. We arrived around 11:00 am for Brunch and to watch the final day of The Masters. It was a rainy morning so we elected to sit at the bar. We typically enjoy sitting outside on the patio at the tables or the fire pits, if you still at the bar, you still have a nice view of the boats lined up in the harbor. Tia was the bartender when we arrived. She was very attentive and professional. Tia explained brunch was already over which we were a little bummed but she said she could still do a couple of breakfast boards. Neither looked like what we were interested in eating so we elected to go for lunch. We ordered Bloody Marys and they were delicious. We started with the Chef's Seasonal Burrata - Pistachio pesto, roasted beets, pomegranate, lemon olive oil, fresh herbs, grilled house made focaccia. This was very refreshing and tasty. It is also GF and Veg. I ordered the A+O Burger - Brioche bun, butter lettuce, 1000 island, farmhouse cheddar, caramelized onion, pickles, fries. I ordered it Medium and unfortunately the burger was cooked well done. It had great flavor but it was a little dry since not cooked to order. The fries were delicious, hot and crispy. My husband ordered the Pork Belly Sliders - Pork belly, butterleaf lettuce, roma tomatoes, fresh sliced pickles, spicy aioli, Kings Hawaiian slider bun. He said they were delicious. Tia left and Joe took over. Joe was amazing. Very attentive and friendly. Joe went out of his way to grab a drink I requested that was not available at the bar and brought it out for me. Very nice! The bar was crowded and Joe took care of everyone with ease while giving everyone attention. Cameron also came in shift and was very friendly as well. The service was excellent and we liked the food. If they had cooked my burger to requested temp it would have been perfect. We will be back!

TLDR; Pretty sure this spot used to a pretty crappy brunch buffet spot. Decided to come and see…read morewhat the new spot is like. Advertised live dj on sundays when we made reservations and there was no live music. Food is overall bland as hell, steak was chewy and dry and unsalted it seems. Chicken and waffles board was probably the worst chicken and waffles I've had, and all the sides that came with it seemed random as hell. We were excited to try a newish brunch spot out and to get a bottle of champagne for mimosas. Little did we know, that the mimosa would be the best part of the meal. This spot replaced a super crappy brunch buffet, that was one of the saddest buffets I've ever been to. Saw that they opened a new concept and saw that they advertised live DJs on sundays for brunch. So we decided to try it. We sat down and ordered the chicken and waffles platter and steak and salad plate. The chicken and waffle plate was really not that good, not a single item on the platter was good. Waffles, you can tell they tried to make it fancy, but just tasted weird and dry. The syrup, looks like they make in house also, not sweet enough and bland. The chicken was the least bland item out of everything, but it's not worth it at all. The steak was one of the chewiest, dry steaks I've had in a while also under seasoned, maybe even no salt. The chicken platter also had random items on it, that made no sense. Random sprigs of rosemary, marshmallow amongst other items. Nothing seemed to gel and it looked like they were just trying to fill the space with easy things. The mimosas that came with the chicken and waffles platter was the star of our meal. Honestly, I'd say it's hard to make food taste this bland and whatevers. With what they are charging, the steak shouldn't be dry and chewy, let alone not seasoned. Everything was under seasoned like we were in a cardiatric ward in the hospital. You can make better food following any recipe on YouTube. 2 stars for the mimosa and the server was very friendly, service wasn't anything to write home about though. Not busy at all, and a lot of workers just standing around. We didn't get checked on much throughout the meal. Oh and the valet was free at least.

When my plate came out I knew immediately it would be just ok. The enchiladas didn't even look saucy. The refried beans looked (and tasted) like canned beans. The rice was very boring. The tinga chicken, somehow, was dry. My wife had the tostada salad. It was like $26 because of the $10 add on of steak. $26 for the most gringo thing on the menu. Best part of it was the steak, the rest will be repressed from my memory. A friend had the taco trio. $19 for 3 tacos and no sides. That's pretty steep. He didn't even finish the 3 tacos. He had the short rib, al pastor and carnitas. None of them looked very good. I had a pinch of his short rib meat. It tasted like grandma's Sunday pot roast. And just like the tinga chicken it was also dry. My wife's strawberry marg was quite good. The beer menu was very basic. Gotta step it up. When we finally flagged him down and asked for the check, he just dropped the handheld payment terminal on the table, walked away, grabbed it when we finished paying, and said absolutely nothing... no "thank you," no "have a great night," nothing. And this was after we still tipped 20%. Definitely not worth the money, service, or atmosphere. We won't be back.

No problem! Let me sharpen that part up. Here we go:…read more I absolutely love Village Inn on Balboa Island, especially in December. It's perfect for dinner with family or friends, followed by a walk to enjoy the holiday lights. In the summer, it's equally fantastic--I love sipping on their amazing martinis or specialty cocktails. You can tell they're made with care! On the food side, I have to rave about their braised beef short rib special--so worth it, even if you don't usually order red meat. Now, the pulled pork sandwich--someone I was dining with is a pulled pork sandwich connoisseur--they order it everywhere they go. And they said, hands down, this might be the best pulled pork sandwich they've ever had--and I have to agree, it was incredible. I've also been for bingo nights, which are super fun. Honestly, it's one of my favorite spots in Newport!

Came here on a Sunday and was asked by the host if I wanted inside or outside. I said outside and…read morehe said no problem. Then passed us off to a different host - who brought us to a tabel in the back, inside. I mentioned that the first host had said we could sit outside and she said "Oh no, those tables are full" but I had just seen several open... so? It wasn't a huge deal though. We waited a looong time for a waiter to come over and when he did he brought us two waters - one cold and with ice and one very warm with no ice. I have no idea how he got two completely different waters. He apologized for being late and took our order. 45 minutes later - our food shows up (I ordered the salmon sandwich and my mom ordered a bowl of clam chowder). The clam chowder was served in a big bowl but was about a cups worth of soup...lots of empty space in that big bowl... However, my sandwich came with a large piece of plastic in it. I flagged down the manager, who is the only reason this review is getting 2 stars instead of 1, who was very nice, apologized prefusely, told me our meal was on the house, and offered me make me another sandwich. However, I said that I couldn't wait another 45 minutes for a new sandwich so I asked for a caesar salad instead - which he quickly got me. But..this is where bad turns worse. About 80% of the way through my salad, I look down and there's a silver bug walking around my lettuce. This is not a flying bug...it was in the salad. Ugh - I couldn't deal. Since the manager had already told us our meal was comped, we got up to leave but we've worked in kitchens before so wanted to alert the manager. I asked the younger male host at the front to get him for me and he said "oh, I can help you...what's up?" When I explained, he said, "Oh, okay, can you do me a favor and go sit back at your table and I'll send someone over?" Hahaha - no, I can't go sit back at the table with the bug. Geez louise! I told him as such and asked for the manager, who again, was super nice, offered me a gift card to return (which I turned down, I've been put off from this place at this point) but it was kind of him. He handled the situation very well and assured me he was going to go check the lettuce in the kitchen. The manager is the saving grace of this place but honestly, between weird warm water, terrible wait service (we never saw that original waiter again after he dropped off the water and took our order), plastic in one dish and a bug in the other...I'm concerned for the state of their kitchen. We certainly won't be back.
