We came here for a date night and had a great time! On Sunday nights they close early (8pm) and they also have last call for food around 6:30pm. We got here just in time so we decided to order 5 items to make sure we'd be full, and it was a great amount of food! We got the hummus with lavash (which is quite a lot of hummus!), the yellowtail crudo, ahi crudo, shrimp taquitos and steak skewers. My favorite was the ahi crudo, with the yellowtail crudo and shrimp taquitos being close seconds. Honestly everything was good. The portion sizes are kind of small for the meat and seafood items but the hummus was pretty large, so I'm glad we had that to help fill us up. Both seafood crudos come with chips and they are in a citrus sauce with avocado and cucumber. The food presentation is excellent. Everything looks gourmet and comes with a beautiful garnish. They were also able to accommodate our request to leave out the spicy things (like serrano peppers and jalapeno oil), so we really appreciated that! For drinks we got the Pretty in Pink margarita and the Golden Hour, which is a prosecco cocktail. I loved the Golden Hour! The Pretty in Pink was decent, but I personally don't like margaritas that much so I'm probably not the best person to ask about it (that one was my husband's drink). It wasn't too crowded when we came so we were able to sit in a semi-private corner on some lounge chairs and watch the sunset. Perfect for date night! Since this is at the top of Lido Hotel, they only have valet parking, unless you go across the street to self-park, so just be aware of that. We had a great time here! read more

Extremely disappointing experience with the front desk at this establishment. After returning home to Los Angeles, I realized I had accidentally left my sunglasses at the restaurant table. We had left the restaurant after sunset, so I called the hotel's front desk because the restaurant does not have a direct phone number or extension. I spoke with an employee named James and explained the situation. All I wanted was to be transferred to the restaurant so I could quickly ask whether my sunglasses had been found. James refused to transfer me, telling me it would be "too chaotic" and that I would have to wait until the next day and call Lost Prevention. I explained that these sunglasses were very important to me and that I was simply trying to verify whether they had been found. Despite that, he showed absolutely no willingness to help or even make a reasonable effort to assist. The complete lack of urgency, empathy, or basic customer service was honestly shocking. I understand that there may be procedures for lost and found, but refusing to even connect a guest with the restaurant when the restaurant has no direct phone number--especially when the request was so simple--felt incredibly careless and dismissive. Things like this are exactly what separate a great hospitality establishment from an average one. It wasn't the sunglasses themselves that bothered me most; it was the attitude and the complete lack of effort to help. Management should seriously review how situations like this are handled. A guest shouldn't have to beg someone at the front desk for five minutes of basic assistance. read more

Came on a Friday evening with a couple of friends and we were lucky enough to walk up and get a spot on a couch by the fire! It was pretty busy and we couldn't make a reservation, so it was nice to get sat immediately. Service was attentive, the drinks were good, and the appetizers were even better! The views on a beautiful Saturday afternoon are amazing here. Especially during sunset, must visit at this time. We made reservations but it seemed like a first come first serve type spot. If I were able to leave 0 stars I would. I reserved a table for my birthday yesterday for 7 guests. We were seated immediately and then left unacknowledged and not greeted for roughly 45 minutes. After finishing our bottle of water I eventually had to go to the host stand myself and ask that someone greet the table. Once a server did come by, the drinks arrived promptly, which we appreciated. The side of olive juice we had requested, however, never came and mind you I asked 3 different people for it. After that, the table was effectively abandoned. I had brought a birthday cake and had to return to the host stand to ask for plates, a knife, and forks. What arrived was a stack of plates and a single knife. No forks. We waited about ten minutes, then ate the cake with our hands. Crazy. The bill came to nearly $500. As we were signing it, and as I was still finishing a drink that had reached the table only about twenty minutes earlier because our server had been absent, a man in a white shirt (assuming manager) approached and told us we needed to vacate the table for the next reservation. When I explained that we had not been greeted or served in a timely manner, he argued with me and insisted that we had been. For a large party, on a birthday, the service was inattentive and the closing interaction was dismissive and rude. My friends and I will not be returning! read more

I've been to Topside on several occasions, day and night and they were good experiences. It gets packed on weekend nights. The last time I went though, it left a bad taste in my mouth and unfortunately, I probably won't be coming back. The Lido House itself has extremely friendly employees. We arrived there one night and ordered drinks at the bar and found seats next to a couple at a table. Later, when I was sitting alone, a male staff with carrot/blonde hair approached me and was extremely rude in telling me that the seats we were sitting in were reserved. I told him I was waiting for my friend. When my friend came back, I said let's get the heck out of here. This review is specifically about DOM. DOM IS HOMOPHOBIC Topside should be ashamed of how my friend was treated tonight. My friend, a masculine-presenting lesbian, was denied entry by an employee named Dom because she was wearing a cut-off shirt. He claimed her clothing violated the dress code, yet people wearing comparable clothing including women in tank tops and men in tank tops and jerseys were allowed inside without hesitation. The problem was not the shirt. The problem appeared to be who was wearing it. Watching my friend get singled out while other customers wearing essentially the same type of clothing walked in was disgusting and humiliating. The dress code was applied selectively, inconsistently, and in a way that made it seem like my friend was being punished for her masculine appearance and gender expression rather than an actual violation of any fair policy. If Topside has a dress code, publish it clearly and enforce it equally. Do not invent standards at the door only when someone does not fit a certain look. Treating LGBTQ+ patrons this way is unacceptable, unprofessional, and completely out of line. Management needs to address this immediately, review who is being turned away versus who is being admitted, and ensure staff are not using "dress code" as an excuse to discriminate. Until then, I would strongly caution LGBTQ+ people and anyone who does not fit a narrow, gendered image of how customers should look before spending money here. read more

There were plenty of men there with their arms out and a guy in a SpongeBob jersey. My friend is a lesbian and they said her shirt was a tank top. Dom didn't let her in. It's not a tank top. He also tried to blame the security guard and being industry I know that's not the case. He was being absolutely prejudice and disrespectful. I arrived with my large group for our reservation & when we got there, the security guard at the front with dark hair & a mustache was extremely rude & aggressive. Topside is such a fun rooftop bar in Newport. I missed the sunset when I went last weekend but the view from up there is still beautiful. They have a DJ playing mellow tunes, low-key and relaxing, though requests are not allowed and the volume stays moderate. The crowd is a nice mix of old and young, giving it a lively yet chill vibe. We were seated right under the heat lamp so it was surprisingly warm and cozy. The Photo Booth added an extra element of fun to the night. Me and my girlfriend had a reservation this evening and we were disappointed with the treatment, given the reputation and costs. We were seated an hour before a server came up to us, only because we went to the bar and ordered by ourselves. The bartender assured us there was table service, but we were not checked in on until we tracked down our server, Kacey, since she seemed to be intentionally avoiding us. Maybe it was because we were the only two young, non white guests in her section. As frequent patrons of Lido House/Marriott and Newport Beach residents we have never experienced this level of clear discrimination. She would not look at us, or approach us despite us being right next to the tables she checked in on multiple times - note most were male and/or white. When we did ask for one drink in our two hours seated there, she dismissed our concerns and honestly gave us a horrible attitude that made us leave. There's no nice way to put it. We are honestly a little surprised that people like this work here and exist in 2026. read more

The food is great, they are always changing the menu and have lots of options. The burrata with fresh water melon and cantaloupe is my absolute favorite!! They have a large cocktail list. I would love to add an update to this review. My girl friends and I visited in early July 2025 and had the worst experience ever. We waited over 20 minutes to be seated at our table when we made a reservation weeks ahead. Once seated, the server took another 25 min to come over and say hi and did not even take our order. We had to order with the wait staff. 3 out of 6 our drinks were made incorrectly and needed to be sent back which took another 30 min. We asked for the check and they already pre included 18% tip which we were not too happy about. Gorgeous rooftop bar by the sea. I came by with about 10 girlfriends after brunch elsewhere on the peninsula and it was a great sunset drink spot! We probably arrived around 4pm and while there was a reservation for a cabana at 5p, another group had just moved along so we were able to land there until the 5pm reservation showed. The vibe is coastal chic with cabanas and umbrellas for shade, beautiful couches, ottomans, fire pits & heaters (which we needed as the sunset) and standing room if you can't land anywhere in particular too. We had a server until we needed to move for the next party then the bar was accommodating. I do wish they had 2 bars because it can get very crowded and unruly with just a single bar for a popular spot but if you're there to meet others, this could be the best way you mingle (in line). They make a great spicy margarita and have a lovely wine list. When we needed to find another space for our group, we walked to a rotunda like building that had more great couches, decor and ambiance... still no bar but I do believe this area may have had a server so that's a plus! All in all, definitely the best rooftop in Newport! You can't exactly see the water but you can see lots of beauty and it just feels right up there! Go try it! read more

The service is terrible!!! We had a reservation and we didn't get greeted for over 45 minutes?? I ordered a drink and it didn't come for 40 minutes. They gave us the bill as some of the hosts came to kick us out of our reservation spot because we were "there too long" but we were only there that long because their service was incredibly slow and awful. We had just received our check and final drinks how is that our fault found being "there too long"? Makes no sense. The host was arguing back and forth with the birthday girl about the service which is so tasteless. If you want customer's tables for other reservations maybe your service shouldn't be so slow & terrible? Just a thought. Spent $500 here to be treated awful. Every summer, my family vacations in Newport Beach, and Lido House has always been one of our favorite places to stay. We were especially excited to spend Memorial Day Weekend there this year and headed up to Topside for post-dinner drinks. Unfortunately, our experience took a disappointing turn when an extremely rude male employee at the elevator abruptly yelled at us to "turn around and go down to the lobby" because the line upstairs was too long. While I completely understand that holiday weekends can get busy, the tone and attitude we were met with were genuinely shocking and unnecessary. What made this especially upsetting is that Lido House has been a place I've enthusiastically recommended to friends and family for years -- many of whom have stayed there based on my recommendation. One negative interaction may seem minor to an employee, but moments like this leave a lasting impression on guests. I hope management recognizes that the people representing the hotel directly shape the guest experience and the reputation of the property. Sadly, after this experience, I no longer feel comfortable recommending Lido House the way I once did. read more

i have to say, i'm kinda disappointed with my recent experience at topside. i used to come a lot with my girlfriends early during the covid days. for some reason, i remember having such great memories here. the food was never great but the service was always pretty good, drinks were great, and the vibes were always so fun. i came recently for the first time in maybe 4 years and it was pretty subpar. it gets SO crowded at night. it's like no one monitors the crowd of people coming in. it's so crowded that i'm uncomfortable. bathroom lines are incredibly long and it's not clean in there. it's impossible to get any servers attention. i literally had to flag someone down after being seated for my reservation because we weren't even offered water or greated by anyone..? it's just too many people and not enough employees. read more
