Brought a friend and her family here to celebrate a milestone birthday on a Saturday afternoon. We were really hoping to sit in the patio, or at least near it but, unfortunately we were sat at a booth alongside the interior wall. Totally understandable as it's peak summer, and a weekend, they get busy. The restaurant was hot and humid. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view. read more

Stopped in for happy hour on a Friday in July and it was pretty quiet at 3pm. It's unfortunate happy hour is only at the inside bar, when there's such beautiful patio and view, even when it's empty, since the bar is so dark. But it's still a beautiful restaurant. The lemon Caesar salad was extremely delicious. The dressing was perfect and not overly dressed and it was a good portion for happy hour. Their sushi was also very fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. We also ordered their espresso martinis - their presentation is beautiful but this is the second time I've gotten them here and they are just kinda of stale tasting both times. What a very pleasant surprise this place is! We had no expectations going in other than Yelp reviews and pictures. I ended up calling to make a reservation for my husband's birthday since Open Table was not letting me book a patio table. The gentleman on the phone was super helpful. We showed up and a nice patio table was ready for us. We ordered a bunch of appetizers- the avocado fries, tuna tataki and the deviled eggs. Usually restaurants ruin perfectly good deviled eggs by adding a bunch of crap in top. These were perfection. My entree was also delicious - the cubano sandwich with a side of cabbage/apple slaw. I feel like I ordered exactly right. Our server was fantastic and there were extra staff helping to keep our drinks full, I really appreciate that. At the end of the meal they brought my husband a birthday gelato. The only thing that made this dinner less than perfect was the parking situation. We parked in the lot below the restaurant but then could not figure out how to get one floor up. Better signage in the garage would have been great. It's clean, modem, open, airy and right on the water overlooking muti million yachts when you eat, it's the best California life you can ask for. Visited Shorebird for the first time recently. The food was okay, not the best, but I do want to visit again and give it another try...the atmosphere makes me want to love it so badly! Starting with parking, this is Newport so you need to be aware. There's an underground parking structure right to the left of the entrance (if your car is pointed towards the marina). Shorebird validates at the hostess stand, valid 2 hours. Atmosphere is great. It's clearly a more upscale (but casual enough) brunch spot on the marina. The decor is beautiful and high quality but not overly done nor overly extravagant. Can imagine the vibe leaning more formal in the evening because it does give "ocean club with the lights on" during the day. Menu items all sound and look delicious but the execution is slightly off. An example was with the lemon ricotta hot cakes - gorgeous in photos and such a great idea on flavors but they had a horrible bitter aftertaste that made them really hard to eat (about 1/4 way in I couldn't do it). Similarly the meatballs looked delicious but the meatball itself was not nearly as flavorful as it looked and sounded on the menu. Passion fruit margarita (zero proof) tasted like passion fruit flavored sparkling water. Was definitely a miss for us. Will try again and order different items, but honestly not sure another visit could make up for the disappointment and get this in my top 5. Came to celebrate my cousin's 21st birthday with all the family & friends last night and it was an amazing experience. I would like to thank the staff for letting us rent out the place and providing excellent service for all 50 of us. My uncle spent almost 15k that night! Shout out to him for hosting! It was stunning and love the natural light coming down on us as the sun was setting. It definitely felt like a movie scene. Lowkey tip: Parking is limited so get valet next door for $6. On the preselected menu, there were appetizers and then three types of entrees to choose from. My gf got the Chilean Sea-bass, I got the Filet Mignon with risotto, and my sister got the Crispy chicken dish. Everything was a 5/5, but my meat was a bit charred on the surface. It was still medium rare just how I like it, so it's still juicy. The Sea bass was soft and tender. The meat just melts on your mouth like butter. So good.As for the drinks I got a whiskey sour and it was tasty. My gf got the sunset cocktail, which tasted like a refreshing grapefruit. We also got a couple Caymus bottles from Napa that we brought over and it was bold, a bit tarty, and very smooth to drink. I forgot how much corkage fee was though. The whole night was fun and filled with good talks and laughter. Birthday girl had fun! It was splendid, indeed. The nice woman who served our side of the table was so fast and efficient. Visited for late lunch. This spot seems more brunch forward friendly/touristy. The staff was great, very attentive, and on it despite how busy they were. We got seated towards the back slightly away from the window- which was totally ok. We had the tomato and cheddar cheese grilled cheese, and also shared the jay birds chicken sandwhich which came with fries. Both were really good! The ambiance at Shorebird was really nice. Being right on the water overlooking the boats was definitely the highlight of the experience. There's also a very close parking garage which made getting there super convenient. Food-wise, everything was just okay. We had the steak and eggs and the portion was pretty small, but the steak itself was actually really good. The chimichurri sauce was disappointing though since it was blended too smooth and more like a liquid sauce without the fresh herb texture you usually expect. The chicken and waffles were mid overall. The waffles were bland, although the chicken was decent. The blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes were also just okay. The syrup tasted a little off and the lemon flavor was way too overpowering. I prefer just a hint of lemon, but these were definitely very lemon-forward. The passion fruit drop cocktail was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Sweet but still strong... my favorite! Also really enjoyed the butter and the fresh strawberry jam. Would have loved to sit in the sun/or by the water but was sat next to the brooms and mops in the corner of the restaurant but besides that it was fine. We had the lemon ricotta pancakes and the classic breakfast. The lemon ricotta pancake flavor was good but the texture was very gummy/chewy. My boyfriend enjoyed the classic breakfast though, but it's pretty hard to mess that one up. The potatoes were good on that dish but again, it has a very chewy texture. Came to Shorebird for brunch with my girlfriend's meetup group during OC restaurant week. The address is Newport Blvd but it's actually located on the bay behind the spaghetti factory and the crab cooker. There are parking spaces in front but they are paid parking through an app. There's also a parking structure just to the west, behind the crab cooker that parking is validated for patrons of Shorebird. I'll park there next time. Menu is brunch and lunch for the most part. We ordered the prix fixe restaurant week brunch. 2 courses plus a non alcoholic beverage for $35. I had the deviled eggs for my appetizer and the adovado and huevous for my main course. The deviled egg was rich and creamy. The main course was 2 eggs over medium on top of braised pork cooked in mild Mexican sauce and spices. It was served on a corn tortilla and came with sides of Guacamole and Pico de gallo. Everything tasted good. I also tried their bloody Mary. It was fantastic, well spiced and a generous pour. The views are wonderful on Newport harbor. The receptionist responded rudely, saying, "Not sure, we're transitioning from lunch to dinner." If outdoor seating wasn't available at that time, that's understandable--but there was no need for the attitude. We were then made to wait despite several open tables. Once we were seated, our server was equally unfriendly and dismissive, almost as if he were doing us a favor by serving us. Sushi tasted extremely fishy, and to make matters worse, the meatballs were severely undercooked. When I mentioned it, I was told that's how they're supposed to be. Came here solo for a 5:45 reservation and even though I was running late, the hostesses were warm and accommodating. I still got a beautiful table overlooking the water and boats, perfect sunset vibes. Started with a chilled Grey Goose martini with a twist... and it was so nice I had to order it twice. Clean, crisp, perfectly balanced. Paired beautifully with the dressed oysters -- fresh and generously sized. For my entrée, I had the filet mignon with mushroom risotto. The filet had a great sear on the outside and was tender and juicy inside. The risotto was savory and comforting (almost reminded me of Thanksgiving dressing) with perfectly cooked mushrooms and chives. Christian, my server, was attentive without hovering and made the experience feel polished yet relaxed. I normally skip dessert, but I treated myself to the key lime pie with what tasted like raspberry sherbet, and it was the perfect bright, refreshing finish. (Skipped the whipped cream just personal preference.) Only critique: the restrooms felt small for a restaurant of this caliber. Overall: romantic ambiance, great service, excellent martinis. I had mixed feelings about my experience at Shorebird. Unfortunately, the steaks were a major disappointment. I first ordered a filet mignon medium rare and it came out rare. I then ordered a ribeye, which was $70, also medium rare, and it arrived medium-well to well done. When I brought this up, the waiter blamed it on the lighting and told me this is how all of their steaks are cooked, which felt dismissive and made the situation uncomfortable. It discouraged me from even sending the steak back and my original order wasn't really acknowledged. On a positive note, the Cubano sandwich was excellent packed with flavor and easily the highlight of the meal. The Old Fashioned was well made, and while the spicy margarita was just okay, it was still drinkable. The waiter also picked up my glass early without asking me if I was done and ran away with it so fast... it still had my margarita in it. It was a perfect romantic setting, where you can dress up or come casually dressed. The server made excellent recommendations and made sure we were taken care of. I ordered the sea bass with risotto and my husband ordered the pork chop, both were delicious. Went there for Sunday brunch. The location itself is great. Next to the harbor and you can see all the boats tied up and great place to people watch. There is street parking but that goes by quick. They do validated parking if you park next door Service was attentive and professional. Our waitress Brianna gave great recommendations. There was four of us. We had the shorebird version of deviled eggs and the scallops app. The eggs were delicious and the crispy bacon was a great contrast to the creamy eggs. One of the reasons this is a 4 Star is the scallops. Good flavor but they were 4 smallish scallops. They were not baby scallops but just a touch above. The other 3 said there's were solid but mine was overcooked and tough. For $33 I expected more. The $14 deviled eggs were a great pick For entrees we got the chicken and waffles, lemon ricotta pancakes, crab Benedict and the pork dish (forgot the name). I couldn't decide between the pancakes and the chicken/waffles. Another person in the party was in the same predicament so we decided to split. I'll start with the good - Crab Benedict was seasoned perfectly. And they had good amounts of crab on the crab cake. It had a little filling but was mostly crab. Sauce was on point. - The pork dish was hearty and had good flavor with some heat. - the chicken and waffles were surprisingly lighter than what I expected. It was the favorite of ours. Bad While the scallops were overpriced for what we got and one of them was overcooked, it was still delicious. The lemon ricotta pancakes was not good. It was literally the only thing we took home bc my wife wanted to try it. But every bite we took left a bad aftertaste. After the second bite, I took a look and saw a lot of lemon rind and they must have shaved it incorrectly and got more of the white instead of just the rind. Bc I split my chicken with someone else so both of us had the same reaction. The other two didn't want to even try it. read more

The sushi at this place is amazing, everything was fresh and beautifully prepared. They give you fresh wasabi with the sushi, which was a really nice touch. The ambiance is beautiful especially on a nice day, it really adds to the whole experience. The espresso martini was one of my favorites. The service was great as well. read more
