The ambience was amazing! This place is definitely my type of grown and elegant environment. From the valet, front door service, the waterfall, the room with the pool, and the romantic setting. At that point, I had already imagined what the food was going to be like. Our waiter Matthew was great! Very attentative, and he made great wine recommendations. The chef did NOT disappoint! We had the 4-piece caviar cone, and caesar salads for starters. For dinner I had the A5 kobe wine fed steak with lobster, and my friend had the butter poached lobster tails. We ordered a few sides to go with our protein choices, and a bottle of wine. All were seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. Spectacular! Kudos to the chef! I was hoping the hype was real, but its mid at best. Mastro's all day. My wife had her filet recooked TWICE! The manager came out and told me whatever temp i like my steaks, to go 1 up!? She literally told me that if I wanted medium to order medium-well next time....wtf!!!! Then she laughed it off and told me she used to work at Mortons... that explaoned everything to me! We also ordered truffle butter. Now, I KNOW tuffle. I know it very well. The butter they brought had no traces of truffle. It tasted exaclty like an herb butter at best. So I voiced my concerns and they brought another with actual shaving of truffle on top. Thats when I realized, they do not use fresh truffles. They use presliced/packages truffle in oil. Top notch restaurant for a celebration. We had a slight change in our party count for our reservations, and hostesses accommodated without issue. We were sat and presented with a hand written card for my birthday. Nice touch. Jason was our server and came over to greet us. He made amazing recommendations. Also tried the Cesar salad and that was good too. It comes with 2 poached eggs - great dish to share. Dry aged steak- this was so good!! My only advice is to be mindful of how you want your steak to be cooked since they bring a HOT plate out. We might ask for sharing plates that are normal temperature next time. I wanted to leave an honest review of Ocean 48. The food was good. Not the most impressive meal I've ever had, but definitely good. The service from our waiters was outstanding. They consistently checked on us, made sure everything was perfect, and genuinely made us feel taken care of throughout the night. If I were rating only the wait staff, this would easily be a 5-star review. Unfortunately, the experience started off on the wrong foot because of the hosts at check-in. Their attitude came across as cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming. First impressions matter, and instead of feeling welcomed, we felt judged. I understand this is Newport Beach, and there are all levels of wealth and lifestyles here. Some guests may spend more, some less, and that's perfectly fine. But one thing I've learned is that you can never judge a guest by how they look. Sometimes the people who appear the most casual are the ones spending the most. In our case, our bill was around $1,500, and with gratuity it came close to $1,700. That's not the point of mentioning it--the point is that assumptions based on appearance can be very misleading. Anyone making a reservation at a restaurant like Ocean 48 already understands they're coming to enjoy a premium dining experience and spend money. Every guest should feel equally welcomed, respected, and appreciated from the moment they walk through the door. To management: your wait staff is excellent and represents your restaurant very well. I encourage you to have a conversation with your host team about customer service and treating every guest with the same level of respect, regardless of appearance. Our experience at Oceans 48 was spectacular. John R was an incredible server and truly made our experience memorable. He was personable, attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. We ordered the off menu Wagyu New York steak and it did not disappoint. It had the perfect balance of marbling and meat making every bite rich and flavorful. Shrimp cocktail and oysters were fresh and I loved the presentation of the different sauces on the side. The crispy shrimp deviled eggs were surprisingly good. They paired well together. The caesar salad and grilled octopus was just okay. Octopus was tender but I personally would have preferred it to be cooked just a little longer. The service was truly top notch. At one point a fruit fly flew into my husband's drink. A staff member noticed my husband looking inside his drink and came over to check on us and immediately replaced his beer without hesitation. That level of attentiveness really stood out and speaks volumes because we didnt even have to call it out. Manager came over too to acknowledge the fruit fly lol. My wife and i came about 6 months ago with her family. The food wasn't up to the usual standard. 90% of the food was overly salted and borderline inedible. The manager reached out to us to make it right. We returned and have nothing but praise. The food was great. The service amazing. This past Saturday, we chose Newport Beach for our date night, and it was nothing short of perfection. From the moment we arrived, the service was first-class. The ambiance was incredibly sexy, the ideal setting for a special occasion. While waiting for our table, we were lucky enough to snag a spot in the bar area, where the magic truly began. I ordered the Stone Fruit Martini, which was hands down delicious. Between the warm welcome at the door and the expert service in the bar, we were off to a fantastic start. Then came the centerpiece of the evening: being seated poolside. The lighting, the water, the reflections, it was absolutely stunning. We came in for a surprise birthday party and Aubrey helped us pull it off. We pulled up to valet parking and were greeted outside the front door, inside the door we were ask for name of party, by the hostess at the desk and taken us by a third person through the maze of booths, tables and turns with a full length seafood prep station. All fresh oysters, scallops, lobster and crab piled high on mountains of crushed ice through a floor to ceiling glass. Past the bar that looks to seat maybe 20, to our private room. Intimate, yet the length and width of the space allowed us to all be heard when speaking to the room. The group had to be just about at capacity for the room and the movement of serving crew had to be well coordinated. And it was. Although we had a fixed menu, it still gave us several wonderful options and included fresh baked bread served to each table. The hors d'oeuvres were a spicy fried shrimp. Very tasty and sought out by all at our table. The meatballs that also came were large, moist and perfectly cooked. However the amount of raw garlic overwhelmed the flavor. We had the option of Caesar salad or a strawberry, Greek salad with cranberries, spinach and feta. Nice. The protein was salmon or steak. Filet mignon or boneless New York strip. My wife had the filet, butterflied and cooked medium. I had the New York strip. The steaks were served on a 500 degree plate that seemed to toughen the steak's exterior. My steak was cooked perfectly medium as requested. The meal was accompanied with parmesan broccoli florets, mashed potatoes and Bruléd sweet corn. They each sizzled when they hit the plate as each were shared at the table. The food remained hot the entire meal. Desert was sorbet or a caramel whipped cream butter cake. I chose the cake! I did have to get it 'to go'. I took a quick tour of the restaurant and its beautiful decor secured my desire to return as a couple or a smaller (single table) group in the near future. I was really impressed by the number of staff that contacted us during our visit. And I understand how employee cost can make or break an upscale restaurant. I can't speak to the value of the dinner as we were simply guests of the party and we didn't have alcohol. This location, service and ambiance assure you that a great memory will be had. read more

So I have a confession to make. My wife and I were trying to figure out what to do one Saturday afternoon. What started out as brunch plans bled into an early dinner because we lag! Anyway, we started our journey by looking for something in or around Newport because we wanted to take the scenic route down south. We ultimately landed on Ocean 48 and what began as a casual outing turned into a little more dressed up "early dinner" getaway. Our reservation was like at 4:30pm . Yeah, super early, but whatever, we were living our best lives! Which was totally validated once we got to Ocean 48... We arrive and walk in and were immediately struck by the ambiance. Ok, it exceeded our visual expectations a bit. The pictures didn't do it justice. I e were seated in our own little booth/indoor cabana type situation. It was like having your own private room/chef's table. Again, not what we expected but was in line with exceeding expectations... before we even had our first bite. Then we met Celeste and Josh and they just totally validated the entire experience. The service there was literally top notch. 10/10. Celeste, our waiter, was amazing. A real pro. She knew everything about the menu. But not just details about what was on it, but could talk about nuances with every dish we asked about. Gave us stellar recommendations. And even when we asked about pairings she had feedback for us. She really knew her stuff, a real professional, and all around nice person. I mean, 80% of going to a restaurant, including a nice place like Ocean 48, is having someone who is genuinely friendly and will give you honest feedback. Celeste is definitely that person. But on top of that, she is a pro. Takes her job seriously and knows her stuff. Ocean 48 management, you have a real asset in Celeste on your hands, I hope you know that. Josh worked with Celeste during our visit and he, too, was awesome. Incredibly friendly, very attentive, and also knew his stuff. No matter the question he knew the answer or if he didn't, he knew who to go to. Now, there are some who would read this and think, well a well run restaurant would ensure their employees do all of these things. Table stakes. I get it, I've led teams for companies and running an efficient team is paramount. But there is a difference between simply having a well oiled machine AND having great people who like what they do and are just plain good people who are fun to be around! Celeste and Josh are the later. We didn't leave that day expecting to have our anniversary celebration in such grand fashion, but ended it with our expectations very much exceeded. The crab and lobster easily slide out of the shells. The shrimps were huge, sweet, and delicious! The cap steak was a special item and it was incredibly tender. With a sprinkle of salt, it was perfect! My favorite side was the corn cream brûlée. Very sweet and not as heavy as I was expecting. The Corn flavor really comes through with a slight toasted flavor. The key lime was well balanced and the right amount of tart and not just sugar. The beignets were really fun especially served high on a tree. It came with 2 sauces as well, but I actually like them plain. We did have a large group in a private room which was amazing! When I stepped out for the restroom, it did seem a bit loud. Always a great experience here. I've been here about three or four times. I also love their sister resto Steak48 in Del Mar. Service is very friendly; always getting seated pretty quickly. The ambience of this restaurant is beautiful. It's pretty dim lit inside, they have a great bar area, which is always full. They have a lower deck in an upper deck. Plenty of seating. Last night we ordered Appetizers: Colossal shrimp cocktail, and the Caesar salad. They allow us to split appetizers at no cost - so great! main entrée we both got the 12 ounce petite filet mignon Oscar style. Sides: bacon, brussels sprouts and also the corn crème brûlée which is my fave!! They have the Valet for $10 but there's plenty of parking in the parking area. this is a to-go review. Bone-In Ribeye - 6/10: Lots of potential here, but fell a bit short, perhaps due to it being a to-go order. I ordered medium rare, but it came much rarer than expected. Not a huge deal since I could reheat it at home, but the bigger issue was that the steak was significantly under-seasoned. Truffle Fries - 8/10: Excellent flavour. Herbaceous with a strong truffle presence. Definitely a highlight of the meal. Elote Creme Brulee - 7/10: Sweet and creamy. Probably would have been better eaten in-restaurant, as the brulee top likely softened during transit. Nothing wrong with it, just not particularly exciting. Chicken Fried Lobster - 9/10: A standout dish for me. Southern fried chicken-style breading on lobster. Super flavourful and perfectly crisp. Loved this. Crab Cakes - 9/10: Another highlight. A side of Boursin Whipped Potatoes, which is also good! For sweet endings, we got the Small Beignet Tree, which are beignets served on a sort of jewelry tree display. I had my first "48" experience at Steak 48 in Beverly Hills back in September. What stood out to my husband and me was the service AND the food. Ocean 48 did not disappoint. As the name suggests, there are more seafood options at Ocean 48. I had the scallop entree and added crispy shrimp on top--phenomenal. The scallops were butter and melted in my mouth. They were some of the best scallops I have ever had. They also did a fine job with the clam chowder. Their starter bread are these delicious biscuits in a cast iron pan. Be careful! These things are addicting, and if you're not careful, you'll load up an be too full for your main course. Ocean 48 had excellent sides--the shells and cheese, mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts were outstanding! Overall, this was an excellent meal. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium well, it was served to us basically raw. They offered to recook it, but at this point we were over the "experience". We waited an hour for dinner, so no I did not want to wait any longer for a new steak. The quality and food did not meet up to the standards or prices. We made reservations and requested to sit next to their indoor reflection pool which was a nice touch. While we waited for our table we checked out their glass-enclosed kitchen where we watched the chefs work. We started off the meal with complimentary bread which was flaky and crispy on the outside. It was butter-y but we asked for even more. DAILY FRESH OYSTERS ($22) - we ordered two blue point and two miyagi oysters which were good. They brought out a variety of sauces to pair with them. 4/5 CAVIAR CONES ($150 for 4) - they were tiny and bite-sized but were good. They were pricey but they were a nice treat. 4/5 CRISPY SHRIMP ($31) - these were crispy, creamy, and a tad spicy. They were so addicting and one of my favorites! This is definitely a must-get. 5/5 KING CRAB + SHRIMP + SHELLS + CHEESE ($52) - this was flavorful and creamy. It was priced a bit too high for me and I thought it could've had more portions of crab but I understand it's expensive. Everything else about it was amazing though. 4.5/5 45 DAY DRY AGE BONE-IN RIBEYE ($105) - this was also so flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked. There were no additional toppings or flavorings needed. I've eaten a lot of restaurant steaks and this was one of the best restaurant steaks I've had in a long time. 5/5 CORN CRÈME BRÛLÉE ($21) - I've never had this before and it's one of their most popular dishes. It was sweet from both the corn and the brûlée. Its flavor profile was mostly sweet but helped to offset the saltiness of the other dishes. For those with a sweet tooth this is really good. I thought it was good but not as much as the others. 4/5 For drinks, the orange and rye ($21) was spirit forward. Both the California citrus ($21) and strawberry rhubarb ($20) were fruity, refreshing, and tart. For our dessert we got the lou lou's homemade cookies & cream gelato cake ($18) which was a massive portion and also delicious. First time here and so far, good impressions and lots still waiting for their seat. Reservation is definitely advisable. Dress up recommended. Ordered their 22oz ribeye, fanny bay oysters, and striped bass. Steak was on point, oysters good, striped bass was ok if you like more flaky fish. I think I am more a butterfish type person. We'll have to try another fish next time. Had the beignets was mahveloous and added ice cream. All were pretty much heaven. Another fav for us. Tabatha was on point and was delightful! Heard a lot about this place. And I don't set expectations. As I had been here for drinks only a few times. But let's get into it. Upon driving up. Valet offered to park my Car right in front ( exotics only situation lol ) Experience started off great. Upon checking in they oddly didn't do a coat check. But that'll be resolved later in this review. Brought to a 4 person table but for two things we're already starting off great. Ambience and was memorable. Our waitress was absolutely professional in every aspect. Complete knowledge of the menu and had every single one of my questions with a prompt response of knowledge, just like was saying, knowledgeable of their menu and the restaurant. We ended up ordering. Oysters. Shishito peppers. King crap legs. Salmon. Crispy shrimp. Let's start off with the oysters. PERFECT. Fresh. Served with your traditional mignonette, horse radish and cocktail sauce. There were 3 others. But unfortunately My girl and I had forgot to try them as we were already enjoying it the way it was meant to be. Shishito peppers. This wasn't the star of the dish. The peppers were cooked/baked perfectly. However they got too complicated with it. It just wasn't it. I wouldn't order this again. King crab legs. I mean what's not to like? King crab and butter. Yes give me more. Salmon with crispy shrimp. Salmon was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Crispy shrimp just the same. Oh did I forget to mention? Coconut cream pie? Absolutely delicious. In the middle of this all. The GM came by to apologize about coat check. Shows that they truly care about their business. So would I return here? Without a doubt. I can't wait to come back and try more. And order more king crab legs lol. With that said. I highly recommend this restaurant. I'd stick with the seafood as that's their speciality. Went to Ocean 48 for my sister's birthday and had an amazing time. The server was attentive and provided great recommendations. We started off with the fresh oysters and yellowtail hamachi. For our main entree we had potatoes au gratin and 45 day dry aged ribeye. The food was amazing and the ambience was great. I would say this location was not family friendly, perfect for date night or out with friends. Just had a more adult feel to it. read more

Quality dining worth every cent. I made reservations for my brother's birthday and from the moment I made my online reservation. I was contacted twice to ensure that they had all the details necessary to make the dinner celebration a special and memorable time. Fom the moment we arrived onto the property valet was offered, and a doorman stood in the front to welcome us into the establishment. After confirming our reservations with the hostess, we were seated promptly and were given in my opinion the best table in the dining room, which was right next to the fireplace right in front of the beautiful pool. There were six of us and two of those were young kids and the staff went out of their way to make everyone, including the kids, feel comfortable and well taken care of. Normally, when we dine with our kids, the wait staff typically does not interact with our kids, but the staff here really made my kids feel accepted and a part of the dinner celebration. Our main server was Aubrey and she was absolutely phenomenal. She was funny, professional, knowledgeable, and created the perfect experience for my family. Since this was our first time dining at Ocean 48. Aubrey took the time to walk us through the menu and provided the specials and most popular entrées. Her attentiveness and flow of the courses were perfect, and my brother felt so special and the food was exquisite. We ordered a lot of things and for me what stood out was the Branzino and the yellowtail crudo although everything was absolutely delicious. Thank you so much to everyone at Ocean 48 who really set the bar high for exquisite dining without the uncomfortable stiffy feel. We had an amazing experience celebrating my wife's birthday at Ocean 48. Minju was a great server throughout the night and always checked in on us. The crispy shrimp deviled eggs were delicious. The creamy egg complemented with the crispy shrimp, which were flavorful. The torch scallops and caviar were exquisite and tasted fresh. Au gratin potatoes were creamy and full of garlic aroma. My bone in KC strip was very plentiful at 18 ounces which I requested to be medium rare. Every bite was flavorful from the outside crust and tender beef. To top off the night, we were treated to a delicious celebratory dessert. We sat at a table nearby the pool area, which had a blue Aurora to it. This was hands down the best steak experience we've ever had! We were celebrating our anniversary and had pre-arranged for rose petals and a large floral arrangement from our personal florist to be delivered the day before our reservation. The team thoughtfully set up the rose petals prior to our arrival, which made the evening feel incredibly special. We were greeted by Aubre, our waitress, and she was absolutely amazing--truly exceptional service. She offered fantastic recommendations and convinced us to try the A5 Japanese Wagyu steak, which was unforgettable. We also started with the bacon (delicious) and enjoyed the sweet corn and mashed potatoes as sides. To top it off, the GM wrote us a personal anniversary letter, and Aubre presented a beautifully prepared dessert. My partner was genuinely impressed (and that's not easy to do). Finally able to try this place so I came for my birthday. Beautiful restaurant but ask to sit in a pretty area because we were all the way in the back order of a room with really no view. The service is top notch! The food was really good but it's definitely on the pricier side for sure!! So, if you can afford it, go. Otherwise, it'll only be once in awhile for sure. The rolls are delicious and comes out warm. I don't usually eat bread but these are a must. I got the peppered tuna(62) which was really good and I liked the sauces it comes with. The roasted cauliflower (21) was also really good. Friends got the lobster(110) which is obviously delicious and the crab& shrimp mac& cheese(52) was really good.
