To say the customer service experience here was amazing would be an understatement. I have been all over the world and dined in several Michelin star rated restaurants, and the service I received at Ocean 48 was up there with the best I have experienced. I have not mentioned the food yet, which was equally excellent. I had the loaded baked potato and Dungeness crab cocktail, just grazing the appetizer menu while dining at the bar, both were marvelous and well presented. They have an excellent wine list with a wide variety for every palette. The bar tenders are very well informed, friendly and engaging. The atmosphere is elegant, yet casual. They have a reasonable but strictly enforced dress code, so leave the cutoff shorts and flip flops at the beach house. It is not an inexpensive experience, but is reasonably priced for the level of food and service. I will be back very soon. read more

This was a great place to celebrate my anniversary. We were welcomed and greeted warmly when we arrived from the front door to the front desk to the wait staff. They were informed that we were celebrating an anniversary and greeted all through the time we were there. The restaurant was nicely decorated with the seafood bar display in the entrance. Ordered a few appetizers to pair with the steak. The chicken fried lobster was perfectly fried with good seasoning on the breading. Wood fired octopus was not tough to chew with some bacon bits to provide different texture. The baked oysters were cooked well and paired well with the dinner rolls. We celebrated a couple of bdays at Ocean 48. It took over the space previously occupied by Fig & Olive in Fashion Island. We shared a seafood tower [?]: Cocktail shrimp, 1/2 dozen oysters and king crab legs), 22 oz bone-in ribeye, and mac & cheese. First of all, the seafood was super fresh. Nonetheless, it wasn't much of a "tower". In addition, IMHO it was pricey for what we received. Secondarily, the ribeye was cooked nicely, and we each had a 500 degree plate. However, the ribeye had a fair amount of inedible fat, making the price less reasonable. Lastly, the mac & cheese was a winner. The shells absorbed the cheese well, and the cheese was really rich. But at $18, the side was slightly overpriced compared to competitors. Regarding the ambiance, Ocean 48 is much darker vs its predecessor. They did a good job of making more seating. Despite it being busy on a early Thu evening, we didn't have to talk over other table's convos. BTW, they have an extensive liquor selection and wine list. Tiffany was an excellent waitress. I eat out a lot, and she was the best waiter/waitress I've had the entire year (including outside the US). She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and on top of the whole experience. Additionally, the two comp desserts for the bday celebrants was a nice touch. The Mgr also stopped by to say hello, which was very cool. 5 Stars primarily bc of the stellar service. Came here for a celebration and felt so taken care of! Ocean 48 strives for an elevated fine dining experience, and they definitely execute it well. First of all, parking. They do have valet available if you drive right up to the front. There's also plenty of public parking nearby if you don't want to valet. Upon entering, you're greeted with a glass display of all their seafood on ice. They also have an open kitchen so you can see all the hard work going on behind the glass. Truly a spectacular sight! We weren't seated in the area with the pool, but saw it as we passed by. The menu is extensive with both surf and turf options. To start, there is free bread brought to your table. This isn't just your average free bread though. It tastes rich and buttery, and is presented in a swirl pattern. I ate 2 immediately haha. For appetizer, we opted for little neck clams and wood roasted octopus. I was pleasantly surprised by the portions of these. The flavors of the little neck clams with the squeeze of lemon was absolutely delicious, and paired wonderfully with the crunchy toast. The octopus was yummy, although the aioli was a little too salty for me. For our entrees, we got the petite filet mignon and striped bass with crab. The latter is not on the menu! We enjoyed both entrees - the filet mignon was cooked to medium rare perfection. The bass tasted fresh and unique with the crab on top. For sides, we got the crème brûlée corn (their specialty and must get!) and whipped potatoes (yes, not mashed but WHIPPED - airy but also thick with creaminess and flavor). For dessert, we got to pick any dessert on the house. It was a tough decision! We ultimately decided to go with their house specialty, warm vanilla caramel cake. Oh my ooey gooey goodness! My husband and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary last night at Ocean 48. We made last minute reservations on OpenTable earlier in the day. We let them know in advance we were celebrating our anniversary. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, parked nearby, and made our way to the entrance. The doorman let us in. I checked in with the hostess and were told that our table would be ready shortly. We waited maybe a few minutes and we were shown to our table. It was our first visit and it will not be our last. Our server was David and he was superb. He asked us which anniversary we were celebrating, and we let him know, which would come into play later in the meal. He also gave us a Happy Anniversary card from the manager, which was a nice gesture. We ordered a glass of prosecco and Stone IPA as drinks. By the way, the hazy IPA on their menu is non-alcoholic, which David alerted us to. David brought us a complimentary prosecco toast, as we were celebrating, which was a wonderful gesture. We ordered the grassfed NY Strip (medium rare), Iberico pork chop (medium), loaded baked potato, and brussels sprouts. We let him know that we'd share everything and they made sure to cut the meat in advance for us. The steak was my favorite of the two entrees. The meat was perfectly cooked and served on a piping hot platter. The pork chop was split in two and cooked a little bit over medium, which I found a bit dry, but it was good. The potato was piled with toppings and felt decadent. The brussels sprouts with roasted with thick cuts of bacon and was good but needed a little acid like a balsamic glaze to make it less bitter. For dessert, we opted for the triple chocolate bomb, which was complimentary, because we were celebrating. It was decorated with chocolate "Happy Anniversary" and "Cheers to 4 years". David also surprised us with the beignets as well. The beignet tree is an off-menu, not so secret item, and they were delicious although a little dense. The beignets platter came decorated with "Congratulations" in chocolate. My husband is from New Orleans so he has had quite a few beignets over his lifetime. The accompanying sauces for the beignets were amazing too. The vanilla anglaise was my favorite of the two. The chocolate bomb was filled with chocolate mousse and more my husband's speed. He delighted in the chocolate mousse. We were so full so we had to box it up to take home. David also brought us chocolate crinkle cookies with our check. The meal was FANTASTIC and one of the best I have had in a while, despite some of the hiccups. The excellent service more than made up for it and we loved celebrating our special occasion at Ocean 48. If you can, request David as your server, because he will take care of you. Ocean 48 is definitely a very popular restaurant! We couldn't get a reservation for a regular dinner time, so we ended up booking 4:00 PM instead. It turned out to be a great decision because we were seated in a comfortable private dining room, which had a nice view overlooking the restaurant. It was cozy and felt very special. The complimentary bread was absolutely delicious, honestly, I could have eaten way too much of it! For appetizers, we followed our server's recommendations and ordered the Sautéed Shrimp and Wood-Roasted Octopus. Both were outstanding! The flavors were incredible, and the octopus was especially memorable. For the main course, we ordered the Bone-In 22 oz Ribeye along with the Crab & Shrimp Shells & Cheese. The ribeye was rich, flavorful, and cooked beautifully, while the crab and shrimp shells & cheese was creamy and indulgent, a perfect side for the steak. Reserve ahead, dress code: our experience was amazing. Our server and food runners were very attentive and spot on with timing. We got a back room which seemed more private even though there were probably 10 tables in total. We started with the Michele Chiarlo "Nivole" Moscato. If you want a super sweet sparkling light white whine get this. I always ask for the sweetest drink and this was perfect for me (I will be searching for this bottle in stores) and the Admire by Dan Kosta red wine. Not sweet at all but fruity flavors. We started with the complimentary semi sweet house rolls, flaky warm and moist inside with butter. We got the wood roasted Spanish octopus which was to die for. The flavors tomatoes potatoes and octopus was cooked to perfection. Perfect amount of salt and spice with the most perfect tender octopus tentacles We always order for the table to share: Lobster rolls, sweet corn crème brûlée, grass fed ny strip (medium rare 12oz), and roasted Mediterranean branzino sea bass 10oz. *Both Served on 500degree plates to keep things warm, hence a medium rare steak* Everything was delicious. The lobster rolls were perfect and it seemed like we got 2-3 normal sized rolls combined for the price of one $39. Usually one roll elsewhere cost $28-$36 so I was shocked with the amount of fresh lobster was on that appetizer. The sweet corn crème brûlée was phenomenal. A wonderful side to pair with the salty entrees and lobster. The steak was 7/10 nothing special and I believe it should've been sliced a little thinner but the flavor was good. The branzino bass melted in your mouth. It was buttery and cooked to perfection. Good portion as well. We finished the night with their triple layer key lime pie. It had a fresh graham cracker crust and whipped cream with light strawberry puree painted on the plate. Not too sweet at all it was perfect; we had to take it home after being full from everything. My only advice is to be mindful of how you want your steak to be cooked since they bring a HOT plate out. We might ask for sharing plates that are normal temperature next time. The open display seafood window is mouth-watering. The room with a pool adjacent to dining tables is a romantic experience. Our menu choices were sinfully enjoyed by our party. For a busy restaurant, the service here was amazing from start to finish. The moment you exit your car, there is valet available, a person opening the door for you, kind check in staff, someone handling the bathrooms and servers/runners assigned to tables who keep a great eye out for you. It never felt like we had to wait long when we needed something. Food was delicious- for meat we ordered the A5 Kobe Beef that melted in our mouth, NY strip steak, and 45 day smoked steak, both steaks came on a sizzling hot plate and were delicious. We also ordered the baked oysters which I don't think I'd order again- there was too much moosh like cheese and spinach that you couldn't really taste much oyster. I wish I had gotten the whipped potato instead of the chef Hugo because I wasn't a huge fan of cheese over scalloped potatoes compared to mash but that's a personal preference. This is the most flawless dinner experience I have ever had. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday. We made a reservation and we got a very nice seating. The server came by to say hi and introduce us the menu and daily specials. They were able to split the steak to cook different temperatures for us. The steak is the best steak I have ever had also. It comes with extremely hot plate that's going to burn your finger off and servant keep mentioning it. I was shocked that they are able to keep the steak so juicy and char even on such a hot plate . Every bite of the steak is marvelous even though our stomach is already gonna explode. And what surprised me more is the mash potatoes, I seriously hate mash potatoes in general but this mash potatoes completely changed my mind! I'm letting myself to see the possibilities again. Last but not least we got the coconut cream pie for my husband. My husband made a very good coconut cream pie already. But this coconut cream is still surprised us. Super creamy with crispy coconut nip inside, every bite is giving an explosive coconut flavor but not overly sweet. Normally high end restaurants are kinda overpriced and overrated with our experience, you always find one or two items that you feel like this is not worth it. I couldn't resist to eat a piece of bread and it was addictive. My filet was perfectly charred and cooked the way I like it. The meat was tender and juicy. The oysters were fresh and delicious. I absolutely loved the lobster mac and cheese--it was rich, creamy, and one of my favorite dishes. The crispy shrimp was equally delicious. The biscuits were also fantastic! I have to admit, though, they reminded me so much of the Pillsbury biscuits I make at home for breakfast that I couldn't help but recognize the taste. So I have a confession to make. My wife and I were trying to figure out what to do one Saturday afternoon. What started out as brunch plans bled into an early dinner because we lag! Anyway, we started our journey by looking for something in or around Newport because we wanted to take the scenic route down south. We ultimately landed on Ocean 48 and what began as a casual outing turned into a little more dressed up "early dinner" getaway. Our reservation was like at 4:30pm . Yeah, super early, but whatever, we were living our best lives! Which was totally validated once we got to Ocean 48... We arrive and walk in and were immediately struck by the ambiance. Ok, it exceeded our visual expectations a bit. The pictures didn't do it justice. I e were seated in our own little booth/indoor cabana type situation. It was like having your own private room/chef's table. Again, not what we expected but was in line with exceeding expectations... before we even had our first bite. Then we met Celeste and Josh and they just totally validated the entire experience. The service there was literally top notch. 10/10. Celeste, our waiter, was amazing. A real pro. She knew everything about the menu. But not just details about what was on it, but could talk about nuances with every dish we asked about. Gave us stellar recommendations. And even when we asked about pairings she had feedback for us. She really knew her stuff, a real professional, and all around nice person. I mean, 80% of going to a restaurant, including a nice place like Ocean 48, is having someone who is genuinely friendly and will give you honest feedback. Celeste is definitely that person. But on top of that, she is a pro. Takes her job seriously and knows her stuff. Ocean 48 management, you have a real asset in Celeste on your hands, I hope you know that. Josh worked with Celeste during our visit and he, too, was awesome. Incredibly friendly, very attentive, and also knew his stuff. No matter the question he knew the answer or if he didn't, he knew who to go to. Now, there are some who would read this and think, well a well run restaurant would ensure their employees do all of these things. Table stakes. I get it, I've led teams for companies and running an efficient team is paramount. But there is a difference between simply having a well oiled machine AND having great people who like what they do and are just plain good people who are fun to be around! Celeste and Josh are the later. We didn't leave that day expecting to have our anniversary celebration in such grand fashion, but ended it with our expectations very much exceeded. Came to Ocean 48 to celebrate my 27th birthday! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside and we were seated immediately as we had a reservation. Despite a rocky start and an accidental spill of water, our service was incredible. Our waitress was so attentive and incredibly kind. She offered us to complementary desserts, which were amazing. Always a great experience here. I've been here about three or four times. I also love their sister resto Steak48 in Del Mar. Service is very friendly; always getting seated pretty quickly. The ambience of this restaurant is beautiful. It's pretty dim lit inside, they have a great bar area, which is always full. They have a lower deck in an upper deck. Plenty of seating. Last night we ordered Appetizers: Colossal shrimp cocktail, and the Caesar salad. They allow us to split appetizers at no cost - so great! main entrée we both got the 12 ounce petite filet mignon Oscar style. Sides: bacon, brussels sprouts and also the corn crème brûlée which is my fave!! They have the Valet for $10 but there's plenty of parking in the parking area. Ocean 48 screams OC elite. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and makes a great date night. Me and hubz were celebrating our 11year dating anniversary so we decided to check them out. Service was warm and welcoming. I appreciate they had a solid zero proof menu as we were doing dry January. The zero proof cocktails were refreshing and tasty! Ocean 48 prides themselves mostly on seafood and heard great things about the sea tower. We did crispy shrimp as an appetizer and it was so flavorful! I really enjoyed this. We ordered the steak, pasta shells and au gratin potatoes for the entree. All incredibly filling and delicious. We definitely did not have room for dessert. However, we did appreciate the complimentary cookies with the bill. Overall, this is a higher end restaurant located in Fashion Island. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion. read more

Service was incredible the second we walked in the door. The ambiance was nice and I like the open kitchen view. The seafood appetizer was very fresh. The crab and lobster easily slide out of the shells. The shrimps were huge, sweet, and delicious! The cap steak was a special item and it was incredibly tender. With a sprinkle of salt, it was perfect! My favorite side was the corn cream brûlée. Very sweet and not as heavy as I was expecting. The Corn flavor really comes through with a slight toasted flavor. The key lime was well balanced and the right amount of tart and not just sugar. The beignets were really fun especially served high on a tree. It came with 2 sauces as well, but I actually like them plain. We did have a large group in a private room which was amazing! When I stepped out for the restroom, it did seem a bit loud. Just another 12/10 visit for the wonderful service from our server and the management staff. They went above and beyond to make our dining experience positive and treated us so wonderfully on my birthday today. We even got a private booth with a window into kitchen - perfect for my toddler to go about her usual shenanigans without bothering anyone and great for me to watch the live action in the kitchen. Ocean 48 is an upscale seafood and steakhouse restaurant located at Fashion Island mall in Newport Beach. They have ample free parking at the mall but they also have valet for $10. We made reservations and requested to sit next to their indoor reflection pool which was a nice touch. While we waited for our table we checked out their glass-enclosed kitchen where we watched the chefs work. We started off the meal with complimentary bread which was flaky and crispy on the outside. It was butter-y but we asked for even more. DAILY FRESH OYSTERS ($22) - we ordered two blue point and two miyagi oysters which were good. They brought out a variety of sauces to pair with them. 4/5 CAVIAR CONES ($150 for 4) - they were tiny and bite-sized but were good. They were pricey but they were a nice treat. 4/5 CRISPY SHRIMP ($31) - these were crispy, creamy, and a tad spicy. They were so addicting and one of my favorites! This is definitely a must-get. 5/5 KING CRAB + SHRIMP + SHELLS + CHEESE ($52) - this was flavorful and creamy. It was priced a bit too high for me and I thought it could've had more portions of crab but I understand it's expensive. Everything else about it was amazing though. 4.5/5 45 DAY DRY AGE BONE-IN RIBEYE ($105) - this was also so flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked. There were no additional toppings or flavorings needed. I've eaten a lot of restaurant steaks and this was one of the best restaurant steaks I've had in a long time. 5/5 CORN CRÈME BRÛLÉE ($21) - I've never had this before and it's one of their most popular dishes. It was sweet from both the corn and the brûlée. Its flavor profile was mostly sweet but helped to offset the saltiness of the other dishes. For those with a sweet tooth this is really good. I thought it was good but not as much as the others. 4/5 For drinks, the orange and rye ($21) was spirit forward. Both the California citrus ($21) and strawberry rhubarb ($20) were fruity, refreshing, and tart. For our dessert we got the lou lou's homemade cookies & cream gelato cake ($18) which was a massive portion and also delicious. It tasted basically like an ice cream cake and we over-stuffed ourselves trying to finish it all. From beginning to end we really had an amazing time. This past Saturday, we chose Newport Beach for our date night, and it was nothing short of perfection. From the moment we arrived, the service was first-class. The ambiance was incredibly sexy, the ideal setting for a special occasion. While waiting for our table, we were lucky enough to snag a spot in the bar area, where the magic truly began. I ordered the Stone Fruit Martini, which was hands down delicious. Between the warm welcome at the door and the expert service in the bar, we were off to a fantastic start. Then came the centerpiece of the evening: being seated poolside. The lighting, the water, the reflections, it was absolutely stunning. The dining experience matched the atmosphere perfectly, delivering total quality and luxury vibes. We opted for the ribeye steak, a baked potato, and those incredible jalapeño peppers (I can't recall the exact name), finishing the night with cake, ice cream, and beignets. this is a to-go review. Bone-In Ribeye - 6/10: Lots of potential here, but fell a bit short, perhaps due to it being a to-go order. I ordered medium rare, but it came much rarer than expected. Not a huge deal since I could reheat it at home, but the bigger issue was that the steak was significantly under-seasoned. Truffle Fries - 8/10: Excellent flavour. Herbaceous with a strong truffle presence. Definitely a highlight of the meal. Elote Creme Brulee - 7/10: Sweet and creamy. Probably would have been better eaten in-restaurant, as the brulee top likely softened during transit. Nothing wrong with it, just not particularly exciting. Chicken Fried Lobster - 9/10: A standout dish for me. Southern fried chicken-style breading on lobster. Super flavourful and perfectly crisp. Loved this. Crab Cakes - 9/10: Another highlight. Possibly some of the best crab cakes I've had with a great amount of crab, and paired perfectly with the lemon and accompanying sauce. read more
