Lighthouse has an amazing location with beautiful ocean views. The beach is right there to enjoy, and there's a park nearby, making it a great spot to relax before or after your meal. I was mildly disappointed with a few things, though. The lobster roll was delicious and definitely the highlight of the meal. The chips were just okay. My latte, unfortunately, was one of the worst I've had... it tasted like milk with just a splash of coffee. The staff was very kind and happily replaced it with an Americano, which was much better. One inconvenience was the restroom situation. The closest bathrooms were by the lighthouse, which is a bit of a walk. I only wanted to rinse the lobster off my fingers, so I ended up using a glass of water outside instead. The service was friendly and accommodating, and the food had some strong points, but the disappointing coffee and lack of convenient restrooms kept this from being a higher-rated experience. This is my second time eating here and unfortunately this time was more of a let down. We had a reservation got sat waited a bit longer then normal for someone to come over a take our order they were pretty busy so that's understandable. Our server was very kind a up beat so no dings on her the part. that let us down was how slow the bar and kitchen times were. We got the beignets as an appetizer which surprisingly came out quickly, but then we waited another 15 minutes after we had gotten the beignets for our drinks..... not ideal. Then we ordered our food and that took painfully long as well. We sat with empty water and empty drinks was very hard to flag someone down to get a second round of bar drinks. After the long waited food to come three of the dishes were cold and not just like maybe had been sitting out for five like minutes like they clearly had been sitting out for awhile. The dishes that was cold were clam chowder, french toast and fish and chips. I wish my party could have good feed back for at least the flavor of their food but they were very off put by their dishes being cold. Good points would be the presentation of the food is very well put together. And when our server was around, she always had a smile on her face and good attitude. The restaurant is located by the water and actually looks like a lighthouse. It's cute. The interior is smaller than I thought but since it's a lighthouse it's shaped round. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I think it may be popular as a brunch spot. We had reservations for 11:30am and it was bustling. By noon the crowd seemed to have dispersed. Everything on the menu looked good so we ended up ordering literally a table full of food - 2 types of mimosas (tropical paradise and elderflower guava), calamari, clam chowder, beignets, steak (holy cow), lobster roll and mahi mahi tacos. Of the mimosas we liked the guava best. Holy cow was one of our favorites but really everything was delicious. Staff was pleasant, just in the beginning we had to wait quite some time for someone to take our order. Made reservations through Yelp for 7 people, indoor seating. We arrived and checked in at the front--the host sat us down immediately. It was a weekday brunch/lunch hours, so the restaurant wasn't too packed. Food came out relatively fast! Only complaint-- Everyone got their food at the same time except one person. Their Lobster roll took a long time. By the time we had server check, the rest of party was finishing up their food. I gave one of my mahi tacos, so my friend didn't have to sit awkwardly while we all ate. Guests ordered: Calamari appetizer- crispy, but soft to chew. Flavorful and not heavy batter. Wasn't overcooked and everyone enjoyed it with the sauce it came with. Elderflower Guava mimosa-- refreshing and tastes tropical and light. Guava taste is apparent if you like guava. The bun was a brioche type bun, slightly toasted. Overall, good, but not sure it was worth that long of a wait for it. Well seasoned too. Bun was slightly toasted. Dressing on salad was a light vinaigrette. Salad looked clean and bright in color. Mahi Mahi--- the corn tortillas must be fresh, because it's soft and thick and elevates the whole dish. If you like spicy, this definitely has a nice kick to it with the seasoning and sauce. Loved it! Fish and Chips-- was good. Crispy and fish not overcooked. Fries are fries anywhere. lol Clam Chowder-- not too salty in comparison to other places. Decent amount of clams. Has a creamy texture, not too thick and not too watery. Nothing irks me more when it's full of potatoes. This had the right amount of potatoes and clams. Lemon Blueberry Pancakes-- Nailed it! Felt like eating dessert! If you love blueberries, this one is for you. Didn't taste a lot of lemon flavors, but it's probably mixed in there somewhere with the syrup and probably lemon zest. Chicken and Waffles--- Chicken was seasoned well and has a nice crunch to it. Not enough chicken in my opinion. Chicken piece looked small in comparison to two thick slabs of waffles. Came here for a friend's birthday and had such a great experience! All of the staff were so nice and friendly, and they answered any questions we had about the menu. I tried the chicken and waffles and it was delicious. I wasn't sure if it came with a side or if I had to ask for one, but either way, the meal was really good. The only small thing was that the syrup was a little too sweet for me, but honestly that might just be a me thing. The scenery was beautiful and the ocean view made the experience even better. This restaurant was really pretty, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy both the view and my meal. I made a reservation on a weekday evening, however, it would have been fine to just walk in since it wasn't that busy. Parking was a bit difficult to find and you have to pay to park in the lot. Service was good, and my server was able to squeeze in an order from the happy hour menu before it ended. I started with the lobster sliders, a cup of clam chowder, and a blood orange cosmo. All three items hit the spot. The lobster sliders, although small, had a good amount of lobster piled on and were good just dipped in butter. The fries were also nicely crispy and paired well with dipping in the clam chowder, which I really liked. The blood orange cosmo was on the sweeter side but was good. This "linner" was my first meal of the day so I also got the pan-seared salmon off the dinner menu. I thought it was fine. Our family went to the lighthouse with the whole family, in-laws, aunts, and cousins Had an absolutely wonderful brunch here, everything was perfect from start to finish. We ordered a little bit of everything, from waffles and pancakes to eggs, and every dish was fantastic. What really made the experience special was our server, Mary. She is one of the nicest, sweetest people I've ever met. We ended up talking about our shared love of bourbon and whiskey, and she recommended her bourbon margarita... and wow, it was incredible. Where do I start...I'm not one to leave many bad reviews, but I think people need to be warned about this place. Most of the positive reviews feel overly generous. Read them carefully and you'll see a pattern or poor quality food, small portions, and over priced items. The only thing thats seems to be consistently good is that the servers that work here are really attentive, so kudos to yall, this review is not a reflection of your hard work. Unfortunately we got our food to go and decided on this place only because of its convenience, and not knowing the area well, this was the closest option. We ordered some items to-go since the wait was over 1.5hrs...even though there were at least 6 tables open within eyeshot, not to mention seating upstairs. Maybe they were for reservations, but this place just seems like it has a couple of missed opportunities, that could be an easy solve. They told us food would be out in 15-20min which was another reason we ordered to-go, only to wait 45min for our food. Then on top of all that they forgot one of our items and we went back and had to wait another 15min. Theres also isn't an official waiting area at this restaurant or a bar to sit at, so missed opportunity 1. With ridiculous wait times when there are open tables, serving drinks to people seems like a no brainer to make a little extra revenue and retain customer happiness, missed opportunity 2. Portions, even to go our portions were small. 26 bucks for fish and chips only to get 3 small fish fingers piece of cod and a handful of cold fries feels like a crime. I'm pretty sure I was served frozen fish dicks...sticks Some of the food we ordered was odd the kids menu and the grilled cheese was served on, what felt like stale bread, enough to where I didnt feel comfortable have my child eat it. We ordered a cup of tomato bisque bowl of clam chowder calamari mahi mahi fish tacos The mahi mahi in the tacos was good but the tortilla was chewy and hard and just not enjoyable, the salad that came with it was very good and fresh. The calamari was good and came with a pesto ranch that was surprisingly delish. My husband was not a big fan of the clam chowder, it didn't really taste like clam chowder and I agree with him. However the real star was the tomato bisque. Flavor point was perfection, presentation was 5/5 and they added grilled cheese sandwich bites it was memorable and a pleasant surprise. Service was friendly, fast and courteous. The restaurant itself is not easy to spot at first but in a great location with a serene and beautiful view. It does get a little cold because the breeze just seems to get trapped right outside but it wasn't too bad. Overall we left feeling stuffed and I would say the food is good but not sure if this would be one of my first picks with all of the competition in the area. Management, I genuinely hope you read this because I believe Lighthouse Café has the potential to be one of the area's standout restaurants. The food is exceptional. Unfortunately, the service and hospitality are holding it back. On July 3, 2026, my party arrived for a reservation to celebrate a birthday. The reservation noted the occasion, and I also mentioned it to the hostess when we checked in. She simply escorted us to our table without acknowledging it in any way. I mentioned it a second time, thinking perhaps she had missed it, but there was still no response. While I wasn't expecting a grand celebration, a simple "Happy Birthday" would have demonstrated attentiveness and hospitality. Our server continued that same pattern. She asked if we wanted anything besides water to drink while there was already a bottle of wine sitting in plain view on our table. It wasn't a significant mistake, but it suggested she wasn't fully engaged with our table. Throughout the meal, the service was adequate but uninspired. She wasn't rude, and she didn't make any major errors, but she also didn't create an experience that made us feel welcomed or appreciated. I still left an 18% tip because I believe in tipping for honest work, but exceptional restaurants are remembered for service that goes beyond simply taking orders. Then came the most disappointing interaction of the evening. After dinner, we walked toward the building looking for the restroom. Before we could ask anyone for directions, a manager stopped us with, "What are you doing?" The question wasn't asked in a welcoming or helpful manner--it immediately made us feel as though we were doing something wrong. After I explained we were looking for the restroom, we were directed to the outside facilities. Those restrooms were dirty, poorly maintained, and far below the standard I would expect from a restaurant serving food of this quality. The kitchen deserves tremendous credit. Every dish we ordered was excellent, and the chefs clearly take pride in their craft. What concerns me is that every guest interaction--from the hostess, to the server, to the manager--communicated the same message: hospitality was an afterthought. Restaurants don't succeed on food alone. Great restaurants create memorable experiences, and that begins the moment a guest walks through the door. Hospitality isn't complicated. It's acknowledging special occasions, paying attention to your guests, making them feel welcome, and treating every interaction as an opportunity to earn their return. I sincerely hope management invests as much effort into developing the front-of-house team as the kitchen invests in every plate that leaves the pass. If that happens, Lighthouse Café won't just serve outstanding food--it will become a restaurant people enthusiastically recommend and return to again and again. read more

So fresh, perfectly balanced, and full of flavor in every bite. Everything we ordered was delicious! What really makes this place extra special though is the service. It came with two and had large chunks of tuna inside a light and crispy wonton shell. The spicy mayo and sauce were yum! We also had the Lighthouse Benedict. Comes with Prosciutto. We weren't impressed. The best thing about the restaurant was the extraordinary view. The waitress was so-so. She wasn't good or bad, she just took our order and that was it. I had the fish and chips. I didn't like the fries at all; they just weren't good. The fish was really good and the cole slaw was just ok. I love spicy food, but not in my cole slaw; I prefer it sweet. My partner had the breakfast burrito, which was ok. Unfortunately, the day took a terrible turn. Before we even got to eat our food, (I had only tasted the fries) and then I received a phone call that my nephew had passed. Needless to say I burst into tears and we had to leave immediately. We told them why we had to leave and they immediately packed up our food. I had an issue with them giving us a small to-go cup for our massive $12.00 drinks. I would have thought under the circumstances, they would have been kind enough to have removed that charge since we didn't get to drink them. We certainly didn't feel like their small cup was a fair exchange for the size and cost of the mason jar drink. So admittedly, our food was reheated before we had the chance to enjoy it. I'm glad I had already tasted the fries and knew they weren't good, because reheated fries, well, not good at all. If I had been at the restaurant, I would have asked them to exchange for some thing different And the burrito, again, it was reheated and just ok. I doubt we will ever go back to this restaurant; we weren't impressed enough to go back. Because again, other than the view (which can be found at other restaurants), it was just ordinary....nothing spectacular. For your knowledge, parking is terrible for this restaurant, so show up early for your reservations. They do offer patio seating and they must have an upstairs seating area as I saw workers running up and down a set of outdoor stairs. The seating area has a nice view of the water. The noise level isn't too loud inside. Our server was nice and attentive. We ordered clam chowder cups to start, an omelet and a Caesar salad with grilled steak. The clam chowder was delicious and had chunks of bacon garnished on top. The omelet was tasty. The Caesar salad was a miss. I should have asked for it to be chopped as the leaves came out whole which I'm personally not a fan of. The steak had zero flavor and was quite fatty. Unfortunately, this restaurant was a disappointing experience overall. When we were seated, there was liquid left on both the table and chair from a prior reservation that clearly hadn't been cleaned up. It was difficult to get the staff's attention, so we decided to switch chairs ourselves, only to be told we couldn't. They eventually relented once they realized the issue with the cleanliness, but it shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. The outdoor seating area also had no little to no shade coverage so we were stuck sitting in direct sunlight the entire time, which made the experience uncomfortable. The food did not justify the prices. The calamari was over $20 for a very small portion, and about half the plate was filled with half stale chips seemingly to make up for the lack of calamari. The Caesar salad looked unappetizing and honestly didn't taste anything like a Caesar salad. Another frustrating part was that no children's menu was offered until we specifically asked, despite being seated for quite awhile with children present. Maybe it was simply forgotten, but it did leave us wondering whether it was intentional in hopes we'd order more expensive items from the regular menu. I was very disappointed with my experience at Lighthouse Restaurant in Newport. My grandson ordered chicken strips and had already eaten about half of one before we realized the chicken was undercooked. This is a serious food safety concern, especially when it involves a child. I called over the manager, Greg, and showed him the issue. He apologized, but then simply walked away without offering any meaningful solution or showing much concern for the situation. Undercooked chicken can make people very sick, and I expected the restaurant to take the matter much more seriously. Unfortunately, the response from management left me feeling that customer safety was not a priority. I hope the restaurant improves its food preparation and customer service practices. read more

My husband and I happened to drive by and I told him that we should stop by cause they have the best lavender lemon drop martinis and it was my birthday. So we go in and find out they don't have a bar area. They sat us at the same table I ate there with a friend before. Marco was our waiter and he was beyond AMAZING. Excellent customer service, the best lemon drop martini, so good I had a second. My husband had a strawberry mojito and due to Marco suggestion, we got the taquitos and then the shrimp cocktail. Marco was very attentive, he observed when we needed something, had a charming conversation with us. Seriously, an extraordinary example of courteous service (observant and amicable, with the right food pairings without being pushy). My husband called the lighthouse the hidden gem of Newport due to the customer service and quality food. The decor is fantastic as well. Came here for the first time recently for breakfast and was surprised to learn this is attached to a community center. The location is odd but the menu looked promising. 10/10 for the steak chilaquiles. My husband and I loved them! My only complaint is charging significantly more for avocado. It should come with it. We also liked the lobster roll and thought the bread was super light and tasty. Our least favorite was the cinnamon roll French toast. It wasn't super flavorful and didn't taste much like a cinnamon roll. First time here! Today was the perfect day! Went around 12pm, Perfect weather to sit outside. Even if it was chilly the heaters worked really well. They have little fire pits next to the tables too. Such a great spot near the water. The claim chowder was delicious and my breakfast burrito was really good. It was such a nice peaceful breakfast. I love good weather, good food, and good coffee. This is definitely one of my new favorite spots. We had a great server as well! Good prices menu too. I seen a few kids meal pass by us and they looked good as well. A little pricey even at Happy hour but the food was definitely good as were the drinks. Wings were my favorite they really hit the spot. The lobster sliders were also really good. The food was good, large portions, and the views are the best if you are seated outside. The yachts and small boats cruise by, and the kids are playing in the sand all while you're eating. Our service was exceptional, our server made a few switches to my omelet, without the "up charges" and it was delicious. The coffee was not drinkable, I asked what brand it was, and our server told us they had just changed the coffee companies and had other complaints about it. Hope they change it back or try Lavazza? We ordered 3 dishes because we had a cute little dog with us who eats people food, and he gobbled up whatever we fed him. The view/ambiance was beautiful and our waiter was AWESOME! He was very kind and patient. My daughter enjoyed her Eggs Benedict (substituted pork for sliced turkey). The beignets were also good! Unfortunately, the Chicken and Waffles were TERRIBLE. The waffles "had to be" the pre-packaged Belgium Waffles that can be purchased from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Our hotel recommended this place. We booked a brunch the day before. It was a short walk from the boardwalk. They seem busy for Sunday brunch but our table is ready when we arrive. The service is great. They asked us if we are still ok with our inside table when we walk in. We all got seared tuna in different ways, sandwiches or salads. Lighthouse Café in Newport Beach is located in a wonderful spot for families with young children. There is a small sandy beach right in front of the restaurant with shallow water where kids can safely play. Behind that, there is a large playground and a long row of picnic tables. It is a fantastic area to spend quality time with children. The only downside to the venue itself is the parking fee, which is quite pricey at $9 for 2 hours. Most customers seemed to prefer the outdoor patio over the indoor seating; while the inside had empty seats, the patio was completely packed. However, it feels like this place survives solely on its location and atmosphere because the food was absolutely terrible. My son ordered the Fish & Chips and rated it a 1 out of 10 because the fish was soggy instead of crispy. I ordered the Seafood Omelette, which contained shrimp and lobster but was completely tasteless. It had zero seasoning--just shrimp and lobster meat wrapped in eggs with no flavor at all. I had to heavily add salt, pepper, and hot sauce just to make it edible. The biggest issue came when we received the bill. The prices on the receipt did not match the menu. The Lobster Roll, listed as $37 on the menu, was charged as $39 on the bill. When I called the server over to point out the mistake, they kept apologizing and ended up giving me the difference back in cash. While they resolved the issue, it still left a bad taste in my mouth. This felt like a serious system error. I have seen this happen at supermarkets occasionally, but I never expected it at a restaurant. Came here for lunch with my partner. I ordered the breakfast burrito and he got the crispy chicken sandwich with fries and a house salad. The food overall was good, the chicken sandwich was crispy and flavorful, and the burrito tasted okay but was a bit messy. The sauce on top made it hard to eat without getting my hands dirty. The service was just okay. Our server wasn't rude to us, but he was really loud and came off as rude to other customers nearby. At one point, a different waiter actually went up to a table and complained about the amount of tip they left, which was really uncomfortable to witness. Also, the bathroom isn't inside the restaurant, which isn't the most convenient. Despite that, the food tasted good, and the outdoor seating had a nice vibe. I'd still give it 4/5 stars mostly for the food and atmosphere, but the service could definitely be better. read more
