We had a great experience at Gulfstream. We started with the crab cakes, salmon appetizer, and the biscuits, and all of them were excellent. For our main course, we had the beef ribs, and they were absolutely outstanding. Definitely a must. The restaurant was clean, the food came out in good time, and the staff consistently checked on us throughout the meal to make sure everything was going well. Everyone was friendly and attentive, which made for a very enjoyable dining experience. One thing to keep in mind is that this isn't really a kid friendly restaurant. They don't provide high chairs or many conveniences for young children, and they make that clear. That said, they were never rude about it. We brought our own clip-on high chair, and they were perfectly accommodating. The staff was also very kind and friendly to our 15-month-old son, which we really appreciated. I visited Gulfstream in Newport Beach today, July 9, 2026, and chose to sit in the outdoor lounge area where drinks and small bites are served. I left at approximately 2:22 p.m. The atmosphere was great, but I was disappointed with the service. My server, Candy, checked on me only a couple of times during my visit. I understand that servers get busy, and I have no issue when another team member delivers food or drinks. However, after my drink arrived, I waited quite a while without anyone checking back in. Eventually, I had to go inside and ask the bartender for my check because no one had come by. When Candy saw me inside, she mentioned that she had been keeping an eye on me. I respectfully told her I was disappointed because I didn't feel attended to. I have worked in the restaurant industry myself, and my brother has been a General Manager for The Cheesecake Factory, so I understand how demanding restaurant service can be. This did not seem like a situation where the restaurant was overwhelmed, as it was not particularly busy during my visit. I want to be clear that my intention is not to get anyone in trouble. In fact, I still left Candy a good tip because I know firsthand how challenging serving can be. My hope is simply that Gulfstream reminds its staff to give the same level of attention to every guest, including those seated in the outdoor lounge area. Such a buzzy place to be for a weeknight early dinner. The hostess managed to sit us (for two) by the bar counter which was fine. Happened to chat a bit with a next sit mate who'd go the Gulfstream on a regular basis. So that encouraged us it should be a swell of a restaurant. We had the Cashew Chicken Curry served with rice, herbs and lime together with a side dish of Bell Peppers with feta cheese. Sounds simple but surprisingly this combo was very good. The other dish we had was Knife and Fork Ahi Tuna Burger. It was alright. I thought it was bland even with the sauce that came with it. The ahi tuna was barely there. On the menu it mentioned a choice of coleslaw or fries. Funny the waiter never asked which one we wanted. It came with vegetables that you'd mix in a burger. That was a letdown. OC is my home but IN is my new home. So when we come back we love to come here. The great? Our server Courtney who was friendly and attentive. Ambiance was on point for a busy Saturday evening. Reso at 7p, we got there early and sat outside on the cocktail patio. Kate one of the servers outside was OUTSTANDING and never stopped moving. She was soooo outgoing and handled the extremely busy section with ease and grace. I got a virgin Bloody Mary with blue cheese stuffed olives. Absolutely yummy. Once seated inside we immediately ordered the heavenly biscuits and I got the Caesar salad that was outstanding bc it had corn and ample dressing the the soft and crunchy croutons. I could eat just those lol. I got the ruby red trout and since they were out of Dover sole, my hubby got the crab cakes. We both got the wild rice with almonds. It came COLD which I wish we would've known. It was not his cup of tea. The crab cakes he said were not hot but not Cold. A little bit of a let down. Would love to see a more varied dessert menu. We ordered two dirty Tito dirty martini's from Talia and explained how we prefer them made. Talia understood and delivered the perfect martini's. Super friendly and very attentive. For dinner, our server was Sara who was very good. Very attentive and never left us waiting for service. We started with the grilled artichokes which are only available in season. We love the aioli dipping sauce. I ordered the Mustard Barbecue Beef Ribs with Cole slaw. These fall off the bone ribs are so delicious! I love the mustard sauce. The Cole slaw is made with mayo, just the way I like it so I really enjoyed my meal. $37 My husband ordered the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon with broccoli and mashed potatoes. He said the salmon was cooked perfectly and the flavor was outstanding. $38 We also ordered a side of the French fries. Served hot and crispy. Yummy. $8 Just a note, Gulfstream has gone cashless. Tucked in the corner of the shopping plaza right off MacArthur and PCH in the same shopping plaza as Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar, I love that Gulfstream has two patios, one for dining and another just for drinks and light bites. There's also an indoor bar which seems to always be busy. My friend and I sat outside at the back patio with the fire pits which has a very limited food menu. If you want to dine outside just have the hostess seat you at the front patio which is for Al fresco dining. The ambiance was lovely and a great place for drinks and conversation. Enjoyed both the Trout Dip and Smoked Salmon which were both perfect. Also The Crush is my most favorite cocktail ever on a hot day. It's so refreshing. One thing worth noting is this is not a restaurant you want to visit after a visit to the beach in your flip flops, tank top and shorts. I thoroughly enjoyed my Rotisserie Chicken ($28), tender and plump, with its savory pan juices; however (my fault for not fully reading the menu; having ordered it numerous times at other Hillstone Group restaurants, I didn't read past "Rotisserie Chicken... with wild rice...), I didn't expect a cold-&-tangy side dish (my preference would have been something warm & savory). Our finale: their Ice Cream Sundae ($15) with a sauce boat of hot fudge! The entire staff was wonderful from the start: from the friendly-&-accommodating host desk to the support staff delivering orders and refilling waters. They demonstrated impressive teamwork. We dined at Gulfstream on a Friday night. Jackie was our server and she provided excellent hospitality during our dinner. The restaurant was busy and it's a little on the darker side. The noise level was moderate. We started off with the Heavenly biscuits and house salad (we requested to add bacon) for our appetizers. The biscuits were really good with butter and honey. The salad was so tasty and full of egg and bacon. I haven't had Catalina dressing in years so it was nice to have the salad served with it. For our entrees, we ordered the ribeye steak and shrimp dish. I had my eyes on the New Orleans shrimp but on the night we dined in, it was served as a Thai style with a mix of red and green curry and cashews. The flavor had a slight spicy kick to it but overall the dish was very tasty. The steak was served with a sauce on the side that complimented it well. For dessert, we had the hot fudge sundae. Smoked salmon appetizer was amazing , but salad was a disappointment- super super pricey, insanely large pieces of bread and just not interesting for being a $26 salad (with additional charge for proteins). If it's any indication of their main entrees, I would not recommend coming here for the food . Service was ok- friendly but they were very eager to clean up immediately (at times before we even finished, and we had to ask them twice to slow down) probably to get the crowds moving. read more

Crab Cakes 1000/10- this is one of my favorite dishes ever and honestly the best crab cakes I've ever had! If you know me or have been following this account for a while then you'd know this is my favorite dish and favorite restaurant. These crab cakes have actual jumbo lump pieces of crab in them and they're so buttery without that fishy sort of taste that some places have. It comes with a side of coleslaw but I always get the emerald kale cashew salad as my side instead and it's my favorite salad ever! It's made with a peanut sauce that's perfectly balanced, and the salad is dressed just right - not too heavy or light. I absolutely love the crunch of the cashews in the salad which adds perfect texture. Heavenly Biscuits 10/10- made with rosemary, these biscuits are perfectly buttery and flaky. They are so delicious and best when served piping hot straight from the oven. They're amazing with butter, and honey is at every table specifically for these biscuits since they're such a popular appetizer. The rosemary adds this perfect herbal note without being overwhelming. Tres Leches 10/10- this happens to be my favorite dessert also! We always get the tres leches without the whipped cream and caramel and it's absolutely incredible. I love how it's completely drenched in that sweet condensed milk - it makes every bite so moist and rich. The cake itself is so light and airy, and it just absorbs all that amazing milk mixture perfectly. Lemon Meringue Pie 10/10- this was so good and I'm completely obsessed with the graham cracker crust! It's buttery and has that perfect crunch. The lemon filling is the perfect balance of sweet and citrusy - not too tart but still bright and fresh. The meringue on top is fluffy and light, and it really makes the whole dessert perfect. Everything at Gulfstream was an absolute 10/10 tonight! This has been my favorite restaurant since I was 10 years old, and I love so many of their dishes, but these all happen to be my absolute favorites. They executed everything perfectly as always. I've been wanting to take my parents to a Hillstone restaurant and for my mom's birthday we came to celebrate her special day. What a special and spectacular restaurant to enjoy a meal. The wait was two hours long but we grabbed a drink at the bar, my mom who doesn't drink often loved the grape cocktail and I really loved the signature martini. Everything was done with attention to detail and it showed. The food was delicious and we had zero complaints. This is has been my favorite restaurant all my life even when it was The Cowboy. It's beautiful inside, cozy, warm, elegant, and the lighting is relaxing. I love the patio seating, the bar, and the booths. The trout dip is a must have. They have taken it on and off the menu, but it's always a must. When it was off the menu, they would still make it. Their oysters are exceptional. They used to make very nice thin shoestring fries that I would chow down and order a plate of with whatever I got. I miss those delicious crispy shoestring fries! Bring them back!!! Their fish burger is always A+! I had a vegetable chopped salad and it's always delicious. Their dressing has a nice touch of mustard. So the recipe on this has changed a tad which is always fine. I just miss the large beans instead of the macadamia nuts. Were they lima beans? They used to also make a buttermilk fried chicken I would add to this salad that was out of this world. Bring this back too!! 4/2/2026- Gulfstream (Newport Beach) This was easily one of the best service experiences I've had in a very long time--10 out of 10 across the board. From the moment we sat down, the entire staff was on point. Friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. It wasn't just our server--there were multiple team members consistently checking in to make sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. That kind of coordinated service is rare. One of the standout touches was the martini service. We ordered dirty martinis with blue cheese olives, and when we got about halfway through, our server returned with fresh, chilled martini glasses and new olives, then poured the remaining drink into the fresh glass. That level of attention to detail is classy and something you don't see often. The oysters were outstanding. I'm not usually a fan of Pacific Northwest oysters, but these were excellent--deep-cupped, clean, and packed with oyster liquor. Add a little cocktail sauce and they were some of the best West Coast oysters I've had. For my main course, I had the Dover sole. It was good, though not quite at the same level as everything else. That said, the coleslaw was excellent and rounded out the plate nicely. Prices are what you'd expect for a quality Newport Beach restaurant--on the higher side, but completely justified given the experience. GREAT wine selection, loved the sancerre Grilled artichokes are a must , instead of the Hawaiian they just and a prime ribeye but still so good , 4 instead of 5 stars because the sole was just meh, it was breaded and was kind of starchy . Not my cup of tea , I like a plain flaky sole . Oysters were yummy if you don't like grit or grain in them, very smooth. read more
