We were amazed when our server, Victoria, told us she had only been there for 3 weeks. She was so friendly, so professional and attentive, we thought she had been there far longer. Would be a 3 star for us if not for the service. Her and her assistants at the table made our night. Food was good, and while I realize we were in Newport Beach, we felt it was overpriced. With great food, service, and live music, Bayside has been one of my favorite go-to Sunday brunch spots with girlfriends for years. We especially enjoy their bottomless mimosa option for $15 (ask for Larry for the best service). I recently went for their Golden Happy Hour for the first time. We (6) had a great time, Oscar our server/bartender was terrific, he recommended a perfect bottle of wine, he was very attentive to our table and whataever we ordered came out together and quickly. We can't wait to go back and have another wonderful evening! At 6:30 PM there was also a wonderful piano player, who seemed to be able to play a few different instruments. All of the staff was very nice, and the paintings on their walls were just lively and great conversationally pieces. read more

Back here after a couple of years! And I would say the best time is during the holidays. Still the nice cozy ambiance but then also nicely decorated for the holidays. It does not have the cozy modern vibe, but more of the quiet old school luxury cozy vibe. Also, we just recently went back to Bistango after maybe around 15 years! And so we were able to tell that it's the same owner. Our waiter did confirm after we asked. Service is really good. They give a bit more attention, that is befitting of high end restaurants. The food... everything we ordered is just delish!! This place really has it all! I tried their raw oysters. I believe it was from the east coast, at least what they had that time. They were on the smaller side which usually tastes much better than the bigger ones. And I love them! We also got the wedge salad which is nice and refreshing. The rib eye steak is cooked to perfection and flavorful! And we also enjoyed their tuna tartare. And for dessert, we had the cream brûlée! A perfect ending! One thing I also really love about this place is the live music. And that night, the music they were playing are some of my favorites! I came here for a company event for dinner. I started with a New Old Fashion to drink, which was good. I know it was made with Maker's Mark but it tasted like there was some maraschino cherry puree underneath the large ice cube. It was quite good! We had a pre-set menu for the dinner. I had a spring mix salad with with feta and bleu cheese crumbles, pistachios with balsamic glaze. I had the chicken dish with polenta and spinach. I was impressed with the chicken! It was well seasoned and was cooked properly but was also amazingly juicy! For dessert I had vanilla ice cream with diced strawberries in a strawberry glaze. The ambience was nice and we were in a separate party room. The service was great all the way around! I have no idea how much the event cost but this was a great experience. Five stars! read more

Bayside is in a nice location offering wonderful ambiance, and very nice views of the bay, boats, and waterfront homes from inside, as well as the covered patio. They had live music (guitarist/singer on our visit) and they offer free valet parking (tips appreciated). SERVICE: Larry waited on us again, and once again the service was excellent. As before, he was kind enough to provide separate checks for our group, and they didn't add a mandatory tip, as many restaurants do with larger parties. I would suggest that you ask about this upfront, so there's no miscommunications. I did have one pet peeve with one of the assistant waitstaff who kept trying to remove plates/glasses without asking if people were done. Easily handled with some additional training. DRINKS: They have a full bar and fantastic wine list. The brunch menu offers two options for bottomless mimosas: a Wycliff Sparkling Brut ($15) from California, and a GH Mumm Brut ($30) from France, along with orange, cranberry, and grapefruit juice to mix. Once again, I had a Spicy Southern Bloody Mary ($16), which was loaded with crispy bacon, olives, and a giant celery stalk...a meal in itself. I also had a glass of Justin Cabernet Sauvignon ($16) with my meal. FOOD: They changed up the brunch menu a little, offering a "Create Your Own" 2-course ($34) or 3-course ($39) option (plus $$ for a couple entrée items). For a group of our size, the orders came out quickly, and the portions were plenty. I felt that the food was better this year, maybe a new chef or kitchen staff? We tried the multi-course option going with a Bayside House Salad ($14) and California Omelette ($24), with tomato, avocado, spinach, and gruyere cheese, and a side of breakfast potatoes. Also tried the Roasted Red Beets ($15), Steak & Eggs ($37), and the NY Style Cheesecake ($13). A friend had the Caesar Salad ($14) and Ora King Salmon ($46). Others in the group tried various entrees and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their selections. Another nice brunch experience with very good service. It was a really nice experience! First time coming by and I can happily say that I'd much rather dine here than competing restaurant sapori up the road, A nice table was readily available to me and the service I received by our waitress Martina was truly exceptional. The food was hot and delicious and also we were able to enjoy live music with our dinner. I must say , being turned away by sapori was the best thing to happen because I finally had a chance to stop into this beautiful gem of an establishment. Had a nice Valentine's Day Dinner at Bayside on the 14th. Gwendolyn was our server and very nice and professional. We had the prefix menu at $135 a person. My wife started with the Cesar salad and I had the crab cake. We both had tequilla drinks. For our main entree my wife had the Sea Bass and I had the Salmon. Both dishes were very good. The music was amazing with the trio playing some awesome tunes. For desert we had a coffee and both the flour less chocolate cake and the strawberry shortcake. Before going to see the summer jazz concert finale, we went to this eatery because they have a great happy hour setup for drinks and food. At half price for food and drinks, that's a pretty good deal. The food was ok - not great but good enough to have a meal before the concert. Their beef slider was delicious though and the oysters were a dollar a piece for the happy hour. We chased that down with a good bottle of red called Earthquake and off we went. The flatbread pizza was so good, the bread and butter appetizer disappeared quickly. The service was outstanding! The young lady server we had was very attentive indeed. She got a good tip. 2 pluses to the place. Great live music at happy hour - jazzy tunes that are very familiar to older folks. The restaurant itself is lovely, and both times we've visited, we had the prix fixe menu. Valet was fabulous on both visits, and with reservations, we waited no more than about 10 minutes to be seated. Our first visit was wonderful, and our waitress was amazing (Mimosa are wonderful!) Unfortunately, our most recent visit was a noticeably different experience. We were a party of 7, including a toddler, and the pacing of the meal was extremely slow. Our first course arrived about 30 minutes into the meal, but the second course did not come until roughly 90 minutes later. By then, the toddler was already past nap time, so we ended up taking dessert to go. The service overall was still pleasant, but when we brought up the long delay, the manager (burly elderly fellow) did not seem very empathetic and did not do anything to improve the situation. What made it more frustrating was seeing other large parties arrive, eat, and leave while we were still waiting for our second course. My advice: if you're waiting too long between courses, it's probably best to wave someone down sooner rather than later. We weren't expecting such a drop in pacing and service compared to our first visit, but these things do happen. Unfortunately, because of this experience, my mother-in-law has taken this restaurant off her list, she really does not forget bad service. Maybe we'll try again later. read more

My friend loves this place and it is indeed a good place to have dinner and a nice conversation. I wasn't at all wowed by the food, but the service and the atmosphere were great. We had no reservations on a Saturday night. My friend wanted a booth, but there was only a table available. The tables at this place are great because the leather table chairs are fantastically comfortable. Each chair felt like a booth of its own! Best chairs in town, that's for sure!! Our deep-voiced server was very professional. Wish I could remember his name because he was really good! The atmosphere is really nice. There is live music which is basically a woman singing karaoke but it works. It's background noise and it works. Here's the food part: For starters, my friends had the seafood salad. They loved it! I ordered off the prix-fixe me. House salad, 16 oz ribeye and warm chocolate cake for $80. My house salad was pretty good. Nice mix of dark greens, oil and balsamic vinegar with a light dash of blue cheese. Nothing incredible, but not bad at all. My NY steak was disappointing. It seemed the quality of steak you'd get at Ralphs. Not restaurant quality at all. It was about an inch thin and it was slathered with sauce. A good steak will stand on its own without sauce. This had no searing or crust you'd find on a good steak. It was tender and cooked a perfect medium, just the way I ordered it. Not big on flavor though, even with all the sauce it was drenched in. One of my friends had scallops. Yes on the scallops, my other friend had the halibut. It was a nice thick cut but it lacked flavor and was a teeny bit dry. For desert, we shared the warm chocolate cake and cheesecake. Both were worth the calories!! I had a Manhattan. They do a really good Manhattan. Shout out to the bartender on that one! It was a very pleasant experience but I had higher expectations regarding the quality of the food. On another note, my friend told me to wear a sport coat, it was a dressy place, but I actually was the only person in there wearing one. Worst meal in a fine dining establishment I can remember in decades. Brought the major issue to four different staff members attention all the way up to the general manager and all they can say is, "sorry and we'll talk to the head chef in the morning." Apparently the owner's name is Mark, it would be a miracle if he reaches out because clearly he hasn't trained his staff to effectively handle negative situations within his business. Quality is a thing of the past and after the pile of fat and gristle that was served on my plate and the complete disregard by the staff, we will never be back to Bayside Restaurant again. read more

We made a reservation two weeks in advance for Valentine's Day and even received a same-day confirmation. We drove 45 minutes to celebrate what was supposed to be a special night, excited for our 8:30 pm reservation. When we arrived, there was a large crowd of people waiting outside and we were told the restaurant had overbooked. Despite having a confirmed reservation and providing our phone number for updates, we were asked to wait another 45 minutes -- with no clear timeline or guarantee. If you cannot properly manage reservations on one of the busiest nights of the year, you should not be accepting more bookings than you can handle. Overbooking confirmed reservations is unprofessional and extremely inconsiderate of your customers' time -- especially on Valentine's Day. We decided to leave and went to a nearby restaurant instead. The difference was night and day: warm welcome, organized seating, better service, and more reasonable prices. By 10:00 pm, we still had not received a single message or update about our table from the original restaurant. This experience showed a complete lack of respect for customers and their time. We will not be returning. If zero stars were an option, that's exactly what this place deserves. read more

They often have nightly entertainment which makes the bar area fun and there is a huge bar. That's usually where I go when I come here and they have a bar menu with really great affordable choices too. I used to live right above this restaurant at promontory point and would come, a couple times a week at least I just visited and realized I hadn't been in a couple of years and really missed it! read more

Been to this restaurant a couple times, food is always great and our server was wonderful. However, we had made reservations for Mother's day at 12:30 over a week prior, restaurant called a few days beforehand to confirm. Upon checking in the day of, the hostess let us know they had overbooked and it would be an additional hour wait. Outside of the restaurant, there were over 10 groups all just waiting with their bouquets of flowers. This is unacceptable and really a disappointment for this caliber of a restaurant. They want to blame OpenTable for this error, however they are individually calling each group to confirm, you would think they would see the reservations are overbooked. Again the food and service was fantastic, but making us wait an hour when you have a reservation during a special day like this was a disappointment. The six of us went to Bayside for dinner last Saturday. All three women had the seabass, and the guys had salmon, lamb chop, and I can't remember the other item. The seabass was cooked perfectly, slightly golden on the edge and moist and delicious inside. The guys said their meals were great as well. The service was great. Came for a private reception on a Saturday afternoon and it was a really great restaurant for it. Spacious and plenty of parking, service was impeccable. Servers came with hor d'oeuvres constantly, and my favorite was the mini crab cakes and bacon wrapped goat cheese dates. Yum! The chicken skewers were really tender and tasty with the aioli. Holy horseradish! My parents brought my daughter and I here while we are visiting. It's their first time here. Sunday is prime rib night here, it's the only night they serve it. Our reservation was for 5:30, we arrived about 5;15 and were sat immediately. Mom requested a table in the bar near the piano player. (Live music every night, starting at 6pm) Our server was Courtney and she is, for lack of a better term, a doll! Just the sweetest server! Super friendly, bubbly, efficient and sweet! We ordered drinks from the bar while we looked at the menu. They came really quickly. My daughter and I shared a Parmesan Cesar salad and my dad has a crab cake. We ordered dinner, mom and I had prime rib, they cook it to medium rare, it came with broccolini and mashed potatoes. I saw they had horseradish mashed potatoes I asked to sub those. They. Are. Amazing! My favorite part of dinner! My daughter had short rib and my dad had scallops. We shared cheesecake and crème brûlée for dessert. Hint: if you want prime rib get there early; it ran out quickly! Once a year, several of us meet up, one of us came from Palm Springs for the Prime Rib Sunday. We checked online beforehand to see if they were still having it, it showed Bayside still has Prime RibSundays! When we asked the server informed us It was no longer being served. We questioned why was it still online? The server offered to give us an appetizer to share amongst all of us. The Manager never came to our table when we asked about the Manager we were told he's tall, long blonde hair walking around. We were very disappointed and we would like to have spoken to the manager. Service was not great. One person in the group food came late, and then when this person asked for a glass of wine that took a while, the server brought an empty glass and said when the bartender has time he'll come with it. Needless to say our days of going to Bayside in Newport Beach is finished. We will never go back to once a fabulous restaurant. We were all extremely disappointed. read more
