Hidden treasure of OC. The best and affordable place to get crabs that you can bite through their shelves with your teeth! I have visited Pearson's Port for 10+ years and they always carry freshly caught crabs. I mainly buy crabs from here after getting tired of going to Dory's Dock early in the AM and long lines. I steamed my crabs with beer and lemon with half an inch of water in low medium heat. You don't want to drown the too much water or high heat or all the juices will come out . Turn them upside down so you can keep the juices in their belly. Always pick female because they have more fat and eggs most of the time. Add lemongrass stems too if you like the flavor. Call before heading out and ask them what they have so you don't waste time driving all the way to Newport and come home empty hand. It's near Fashion Island. It is a little hidden but your map should be able to guide you there. Parking - you can park right in front and walk to the cute little store floating on the water. Stopped by on a whim and scored the best spot prawns, yellowtail sashimi, and swordfish steaks!! Spot prawns are fighty even after hours in the fridge, tasted phenomenal with little soy sauce and wasabi. I pigged out on 2lbs. Drools Yellowtail sashimi is very fresh and yummy. Pearson's Port Fish Market is unequalled! I just discovered this place last year. I bought some salmon for Salmon B-L-T sandwiches...the best salmon I ever ate. I grilled it over real charcoal. Some nice rolls; good tomatoes; crispy bacon; lettuce; sriracha mayo.......amazing. I've had yellowtail and halibut at Pearson's, too. Sensational! They've got their own boat and they contract with some other local fishermen as well. Fresh fresh fresh! When I want the real thing I won't shop anywhere else. Been coming here for years and realized I never left a review. Freshest seafood you can buy straight from the boat. Service is incredible. Family run business and everyone is super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the shrimp during shrimp season and the spiny lobster during lobster season. The scallops are also amazing and reasonably priced. When they do have fish, it is fresh and can be used for sushi. I wouldn't buy my seafood from anywhere else. I have been looking for a place to buy spot prawns without having to wake up early and line up at 4 am. Not sure how I missed this place before but it popped up on my online search. They post their weekly catch on Instagram. I'm not sure anymore how much the spot prawns are at Dory but I'm willing to pay a few dollars more to not wake up early and be treated respectfully rather than as if customers are a nuisance. I've called Pearson a few times with questions such as how many scallops are in a pound and they are always patient, polite, and helpful. They also wrap everything up nicely on ice! And they accept credit cards! On to the seafood. The first time I went there I bought spot prawns, clams, and fish. The latter was for my friend and she was it was very fresh. The prawns and clams were delicious. For a surf and turf with my friends, we got prawns - delicious as sashimi and also steamed. We also fried the heads like they do in the Japanese restaurants. clams - little neck clams were huge and so good scallops - sashimi and also seared. These were some of the best scallops I've ever had Fish for sashimi - tuna, salmon, white tail. This was also fresh but I think we didn't do a good job slicing it The seafood here is incredibly fresh and delicious and very fairly priced. I also feel like they are really honest with how they weigh their seafood because I felt like we got tons. There's hardly a line and they have normal hours- open Thu-Sunday. I have no idea why this place isn't more popular. I'm also half afraid to say anything because if the word gets out there will be lines and lines, but I love these small family run businesses that are proud of what they sell. read more

Freshest best seafood where you don't have to wake up at 4 am at Dory's. We always get some fish, live shrimp and crab and lobster (when in season). I love their live spot prawns in the spring/summer and I haven't gotten to committing to the live spiny lobsters. The spot prawns are HUGEEEE when in season and taste so sweeet. Used to love their love clams for clam soup but more recently we've been getting a lot of duds. A year ago they were hugeeeee and tasted so fresh. Now they're a-ok; not that amazing. Love their swordfish- it was most amazing and juiciest piece of swordfish I've ever had. Rest of the fish are generally mind blowingly amazing if consumed on the first day, and solid food on a few days after. Tip: check their Instagram story @pearsonport to check out what's in season and what's available for the day. The availability varies occasionally and some of the live items aren't always available / in season. They also leave hours on there too Location: a bit weird to find if it's your first time checking this place out. You'll turn into Bayside Dr. and immediately turn left into what looks like a private lot for RV's and mobile homes. Keep driving all the way down even though it says private, and you'll see gondola rentals on the right and SUP/kayak rental on the left. A multigenerational family fish market. My in-laws would get fish and live crab here over 40 years ago. This is the place to get local spiny lobster, Santa Barbara spot prawns and the freshest fish at fair prices. When lobsters are in season, I'll call and have them hold some for me, when I arrive in the afternoon they will prep and clean them for the grill so the are the freshest ever. read more

I have been to Pearson's Port tons of times and every time the seafood is super fresh. I come here mainly for spotted prawns and crab which are a few dollars less per pound compared to supermarkets. They have always been friendly and I have never had a bad experience. I was really surprised to see three one star reviews in a row and did a little digging. All three of those people seem to have reviewed a lot of the same places. I dunno if they are competitors or what, but trying to defame a business especially during COVID times is despicable. read more

After being in a line with no signs of social distancing and everyone on top of each other, it was my turn to encounter the proprietors of this dodgy operation. The freshness of seafood or lack thereof did not inspire confidence. All the fish appeared slimy and precut in advance into saran wrapped chunks. The owners obviously rigged their own reviews too. It seems highly unlikely statistically that this shack would maintain 130 "5-star ratings" only, with stinky fish. No 2 stars or 3 stars? Just all 5? Very fishy. People are entitled to their opinions and just because there are not so flattering comments, doesn't invalidate those reviews. Someone below couldn't handle the truth and they had to offset the bad reviews with another fake 5 stars? There's an obvious intervention by the owners when a few negative reviews are rapidly succeeded with glowing positives. Spotted Prawns! In an unassuming shack on the water in Newport Beach lies this seafood oasis. My wife sent me here to get some spotted prawns and it was a great experience. You park in this dock area and walk down this plank to a floating store/dock/boat. It was cool. The inside was fairly small, but you know it had all sorts of fresh seafood. I was here for the shrimp and grabbed a net and the person helped me pick out some larger prawns for me to bring home. They were fresh and jumping all over the place. It's a little pricey, but that's expected for this fresh of seafood. Recommend coming here. read more

I love Pearson's Port! My sister and I get our sashimi grade bluefin tuna here and it is great for our poke bowls. You need to CALL ahead of time and ask about availability and opening hours (sometimes they are open on Sunday too). Calling is also necessary because you can order your fish a head of time and skip the lines (which I have once waited 30 minutes in). read more
