There is so much variety to choose from and usually they're super yummy The ladies working there so nice they always help me and package everything nicely and everything is labeled so u don't have stare and guess which cut you're looking at Everything is frozen but I have never felt a lack of freshness. This is a cool little butcher shop where you can get your American, Australian, and Japanese wagyu beef. It's pretty pricey though as expected. But these meats can be hard to find anywhere else. read more

To be clear, my 2-star rating is not due to your process, or because I have misunderstandings about what fresh-cut beef actually means. I'm well aware that flash freezing beef maintains its freshness. My concern is that your store is marketed on Yelp as a butcher. It's not. It is a frozen meat store, akin to Wild Fork. And when I was glancing at the photos before coming in to your store, I saw (and still to this day) the majority of the photos that were added by the business owner show fresh cuts (i.e., not frozen) of meat--which, again, cannot actually be purchased at your store. That's why I said I wasted a trip. Not because I don't think you have good products, but because I expected a butcher shop with fresh cuts available. No hard feelings. It appears that your shop has a large following and plenty of 5-star reviews. I'm just providing a different perspective. One that walked away from your shop feeling a bit mislead about what I'd see. Cool place! Quality meats! Cheaper than Costco. I went Labor Day weekend and they were having a deal on ribeye from Kagoshima. Got 3 slabs for $300. Worth it for the deal! Meats turned out great, never had better! Service was informative and let me spin a cool wheel for spending over $300. I ended up getting chips, but other items on the wheel seemed more valuable. Chips were good though very olive oily! Would definitely go again! Thanks Kai wagyu! read more

Found this lovely gem of a place to buy some yummy steaks for my hubby for Valentine's Day! Was greeted by a nice gentleman who was welcoming and knew the different cuts of meat and suggested cuts that I should buy. I ended up buying the Australian ebony ribeye, Australian wagyu picanha and organic grass fed ribeye. All the meats were so good! We really enjoyed the picanha which I got on sale so that was a steal. Also bought flakey salt which I enjoyed with my steak too. All of the meats are of good quality and I thought that the price was fair. Definitely a great place to check out and it's clean and nice looking inside. Something you would expect the place to look like when you walk into a butcher shop. Thank you again to the gentlemen who helped me this past Monday 2/12! Will definitely be back! read more

Popped in here last week cause I was waiting for my order next door. And totally surprised such a specialty shop was around here. I love beef and wagyu, definitely a treat to experience every once in a while. With Valentine's Day just the following week, they had a special that included caviar and a couple pieces of wagyu. Had never spent so much on ingredients before but after the one time I had a wagyu omakase overseas (more affordable in Malaysia), I wanted to duplicate the experience for my wife. So on V-day picked up a Kobe "wine" steak and a can of caviar. Who knew these two paired so well together. Apparently everyone and their mother cause I'd you Google it, there's so many articles about it and even some recipes. I got a snowflake of a New York steak and boy, it was marbled. Felt like I was just handling butter. Sliced it super thin and made some nigiris and then seared it a few ways (skillet with tallow and garlic oil rendered from the wagyu fat and some prosciutto I had around). Meats are totally legit. While Australian wagyu was available, I figure it's be similar to American wagyu, which I've had many times and easily obtained from many butcher shops and stores in the area. A5 Japanese wagyu is a whole new level. There were some from Miyazaki. But the original Kobe is an even higher level than that! And then there's the different cuts. So whatever you're looking to do, they've got it here. They even had some pre-sliced and frozen for shabu shabu. In the end, the menu I created from the steak were: 1) blow torches wagyu nigiri with caviar 2) blow torched wagyu nigiri with deep fried garlic slices (awesome) 3) cast iron seared steak pieces 4) small strips of wagyu on truffle butter and smoke infused with caviar topping 5) Himalayan salt block seated center cut chunks 6) fried rice with rendered tallow and garlic oil (totally decadent for fried rice. Uncle Roger would approve). Tip, Google pasteurized eggs for beef dipping. Great way to dip. But I'd recommend getting some artisan shoyu to help complement the buttery wagyu. read more

First time going into establishment and it's nice to see options for high quality steak. Prices are a bit steep. Example is a Japanese branded premium bbq sauce they sell for double what they sell at Mitsuwa, across the street. Picked up some frozen Miyazaki wagyu steaks and nice marbling on the steaks throughout. Only suggestion would be more value or lower prices to bring in more clients. read more

I was planning a nice dinner for my boyfriend and my good friend highly recommended Kai wagyu. The store is conveniently located near south coast plaza, so I stopped by after running some errands. The store itself is small, but very nicely setup. The girl who helped me was very knowledgeable and helped me make the best choice for my meal. I went with the A5 Japanese wagyu. There is nothing like this place. If you want wagyu or other quality items this is the place. I felt so welcome and didn't feel like an annoying person who was unsure about what she wanted. I was really wanting some smaller cut of A5 or even a short rib. The wonderful lady behind the counter was informative and welcoming. We had a discussion on how to cook a bone marrow and she just gave me confidence that I'm able to do it. I went home with my bone marrow and my little piece of A5 which I found in the freezer section. If I'm hankering for a proper steak I would come back here and try their other offerings. It's quality meat with quality service. They also have sashimi grade tuna and salmon. Now I'm going to grill my wagyu and bake my bone marrow with sprinkling of herbs and rock salt. read more

Quality of the meat is much better than what I've found for Wagyu. I picked up some picanha and a ribeye. Both were well marbled and cooked great. It's a bit of a drive for me but I think it's worth it. Pricing seems good for the grade of meet you get as well. There's also some cool chilli oils and other items to check out while you are there. read more

Looking for some holiday gifts and found this place on Yelp. They have a nice selection of different A5 cuts and it was nice to see they had certificates for each one. The worker also gave us a selection of salts to try and packed our stuff in dry ice, boxes, and bags. It's located in a small strip mall next to subway. They have directions on how to cook the meat. Went to the shop to pick up a gift order from a friend. The store's immaculate condition and spot on decoration makes it apparent they pay attention to every detail. You'll be greeted by a large selection of high quality cuts displayed throughout the store, as well as Japanese knives and other condiments to go with their meats. I was picking up some food next door and saw this brand new meat store open so I went inside to see their selection. They sell A5 wagyu meat from Japan. I was curious to try some so I ended up buying a rib-eye to try out. The store owner was very kind and patient as I looked over their selection. They sell different cuts of A5 like rib-eye, filet and others which makes them unique. All of their meat is vacuum sealed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Will definitely come back to try out different cuts. The meat is expensive but high quality and very delicious. read more

If you haven't tried Japanese Wagyu yet, then this is THE place to get it. Fresh, top tier quality meat and such friendly employees to help me decide on the variety of wagyu. My fave hands down is the Strip loin but you can't go wrong with the Ribeye either. Love to cook these with my fam for our kbbq nights and it's sooo easy to cook. Best part is that the store is just down the street from my house so it's super convenient to stop by. Amazing quality meats! You do not have to go with the most expensive things here. My favorite cut is the Australian Denver steak - pan sear medium rare, slice and serve with a bit of ponzu (also sold in store) and finely sliced green onions. it melts in your mouth. I will stop by if I happen to be in the area, but it also has an online store. Bring your own insulated bag if you do not want to pay $3 for their small one. read more

You could smell the smoke before you even walked through the gate, and honestly, it was impossible not to follow it. We had been looking for barbecue after we couldn't get into the Orange County Fair, and thankfully, Harper's was close by. We pulled up, saw the wood stacked outside, smelled that incredible smoke, and immediately thought, "Okay, we may have just found something good." We finally found street parking and walked in, expecting the place to be packed because it looked incredibly busy. It was busy, but surprisingly, it didn't feel crowded or chaotic. The property itself is beautiful--landscaped, open, and thoughtfully designed. There are two patios in the front, an enclosed room with a bar, and then an outdoor backyard-style area with additional seating. But the real showstopper is the smokehouse. As soon as you walk through the gate, you can see this massive smoke room and the working barbecue pits right there in full view. You can see the smoke, the wood, the pits, and the barbecue being cooked right in front of you. It immediately sets the tone for what you're about to eat. Ordering is simple and casual. You walk up, choose your meats and sides, and they plate everything right in front of you. The meats are priced by the pound. And then came the beef rib. I have to say this because I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it: that beef rib was phenomenal. This was actually the first beef rib I've ever ordered. I've had a friend order beef ribs at another barbecue restaurant before, and I remember thinking they were somewhat chewy. So I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. Harper's completely changed my mind. The bark was incredible--deeply smoked, beautifully seasoned, and packed with flavor. And the tenderness was unbelievable. It was like eating pot roast on a stick. The meat was so tender and flavorful, and the combination of that bark, the smoke, the seasoning, and the texture was an absolute dopamine hit with the first bite. I cannot stress enough how good this beef rib was. The St. Louis pork ribs were equally delicious--smoky, flavorful, tender, and exactly what you want from good barbecue. We also tried the cornbread muffin, Brussels sprouts, and vinegar-based coleslaw. Everything was delicious. The only thing I would personally change would be cooking the Brussels sprouts a little longer. I prefer mine more tender, but that's completely a matter of personal preference. I'm currently doing carnivore and avoiding sugar, so I had to resist the pulled pork, even though I love pulled pork. I noticed they use Cali Gold barbecue sauce with it, so when I'm off this diet, that is absolutely going on my list. They also had smoked turkey and brisket, which I somehow talked myself out of ordering. I already regret that decision. And now I'm wondering whether they do smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving, because I would absolutely show up at my mother-in-law's house with a Harper's smoked turkey. The service was excellent. We were greeted immediately with warmth and kindness, and everyone was welcoming. And I have to mention the atmosphere because I was genuinely impressed by the space. This isn't just a place to grab barbecue and leave. It's a beautiful, comfortable space with multiple seating areas that would be fantastic for an anniversary, birthday, private gathering, or even a small wedding. Harper's feels like one of those places you're lucky to stumble upon. If you love barbecue, you need to experience this place for yourself. Coming into the store the clerks were incredibly nice and answered any questions I had about what would match my preference, and what theirs were, then gave me recommendations.
